The thing about lrb is that I really believe being “pretentious” is one of those concepts that’s actually entirely about how someone else is reacting to you and it’s not really dependent on your like, material actions or thoughts or intent.

when someone calls somebody else pretentious like 98% of the time what they mean is “this person is making me feel stupid/uneducated/insecure in some way”
