Hang on, I think I'm starting to understand this garble speech.
What's that? You still eat rocks? As well as bees? But you eat them alive and WITH the stinger now?
Hey to each their own I guess.

Guild Wars 2 let’s you ask and answer many questions. For instance: what if there was a sewer man. What if you gave him a hammer. What if I had to make a different Holosmith because I realized that by giving this little freak a lightsaber, I made a Yoda.

Current podcast listening (don't ask, digital twins currently occupying the Random Interest section of my brain that has previously been occupied by things like quantum physics).
This episode from Sept 2020, and I have to say Genéne Kleppe is amazing and I would love it if the Digital Twin Fan Club peeps got her back on to find out how things have moved on in her world.
Get me learning about mining in Australia. Kind of.

So Xarxes sees the Eternal Alchemy in a very pantheistic sense. The Eternal Alchemy is sacred, the Eternal Alchemy contains all things, ergo all things are sacred. Everyone is worth saving, no matter how inconsequential they might seem, because everyone is a part of the world. She's spent a lot of time studying the dwarven concept of the All, and a lot of time arguing with Ogden about it to try and understand it better, and has mostly come to the conclusion that it's the same thing, just that the dwarves take a more defeatist tack on it. The Eternal Alchemy can be changed because the world can be changed. She's not going to sit back and let it consume itself, when instead she can be a catalyst that shakes up the whole system and brings it into a new equilibrium.
Klepp thinks that the Eternal Alchemy is just a fancy way of saying physics, and that it's just something the Synergetics people talk about in order to sound like they're doing something big and important and worth getting grants for. He is a little bit mad that people get funding for bullshit philosophy, whereas he has to beg and prostrate himself before the Arcane Council in order to get funding for improvements to the goddamn water filtration system and get ignored because it's "uninspired even by Statics standards". He moved to Lion's Arch pretty much because he didn't want to constantly answer "how does this fit into the Eternal Alchemy" every time he wanted permission to overhaul the sewage system so that everyone isn't drinking their own shit and piss.
Here's one for the asura enjoyers: What's your character's relationship to the eternal alchemy? Does it play a big part in their life? Do they give it any thought or do they simply not bother? What does it mean to them?
Applicable non-asura characters obviously welcome as well!
#guild wars 2#oc: xarxes#oc: sanitationist klepp#there are two kinds of asura#they both are throwing hands with the arcane council

Did a few quick concept sketches for some of the flora (with their default names)
Featherplatter is a flower with one big, fluffy, continuous white disk instead of individual petals. It grows from a bright red bulb and can produce another one without pollination at the center of the top of it. They're dispersed by a local bird-like creature that has a habit of collecting red pebbles and burying them for safe keeping, often resulting in them planting the new bulbling. The bulb itself is edible, and is very similar to an onion.
On the other hand, Syringe Plants have evolved to repel this same creature from stealing its red berries, due to the berries being integral to the structure of the plant's reproduction. The berry is a catalyst for nutrients, converting them into a liquid form and then allowing it to drip off of the pointed spike at the bottom. The liquid then seeps into the soil to create a new plant. Syringe Plants have an arched stem and usually grow on slopes to capitalize off of this. The berry itself is edible, though bitter, and the flower encasing it is poisonous (though, you're already dead, so it'll just make you sick for a bit).
Zade is a dark green fruit with an outer skin similar in feel and shine very similar to a pepper, though the interior flesh is more akin to a dragonfruit. They grow in bunches (normally or 4 or 5) off of a woody vine, called Zadebunch, that often grows on stony surfaces in higher altitudes. The fruit itself is edible and tastes very sweet.
Every fantasy plant lineup needs a fruit with a hole in the middle, but what I focused on the most for the Torus Fruit's design was why a plant would need to evolve in this way. The solution I landed on was a pest repellent! There is a large, caterpillar-esque grub that is omnivorous and extremely territorial that is known for eating fruits by tunneling through them. The Torus Fruit makes it look like one of these grubs has already claimed the area, encouraging the grub itself (as well as the grub's prey) to avoid the bushes they grow from. It's a citrus, very similar to an orange.
Doily Lichen is a decomposer that primarily grows on wood, growing outward from a central point in a symmetrical pattern, looking like lace. No two colonies of Doily Lichen have the same pattern to them, like snowflakes! Eating it is not recommended.
an idea thats been bouncing around in my head for a while now is a game where you are playing as a long-since departed soul in the afterlife, and you did a lot of botanical research in your life as a hobby and dreamed of being a farmer but never got the chance. now there is a pantheon of gods that has appointed you to explore, study, cultivate, and ultimately beautify the overgrown sections of paradise that have been left untouched for millions of years. all the crops are completely fictional plants that have evolved in this unique ecosystem separated from all conventional agriculture and surrounded my magic, and when you discover one for the first time, you are given the option to name that crop yourself (or "leave it to the gods" which just goes with the default), and it can be changed later.
The gods are all original characters and each has a more female-presenting and a more male-presenting version that the player chooses at the start of the game along with the player's appearance and pronouns. the gods are all optionally romanceable and will provide you special permanent upgrades as you become closer with them (for example, getting closer with the god of sleep will allow you to stay up during the night instead of needing to go to bed). also you can be polyamorous because its the afterlife and nobody cares. or you can choose to have romance removed from the gameplay entirely
i also think that it would be fun to have some other stuff to collect on the side, like fictional gemstones or research on animal species or things that somebody left behind that you can make sure gets returned to its proper owner.
and i know it's incredibly obvious that this is another stardew valley-inspired thing and i know we already have a billion of them but i still really like the idea and i want to maybe try and make it someday
#amicus.txt#long post#i dont know if im going to keep updating this#but if i do ill be tagging it from now on as#Afterlife Acres#tumblr would probably like Klepp. i need to draw Klepp.#Klepp is the god of greed. theyre a lil guy that runs the local museum
