Interview with Tumblr user Visualised memories! ( Photographer Klaus Ratzer)
I reached out to this fellow blogger due to the vast amount of creativity that he shares. I wanted to get a hint of their theme included for obvious reasons and to explore the life of a nature/landscape photographer. This conversation enabled me to look into the thoughts of a photographer that without a doubt is loving the way he shoots and gives a great aura through a well prepared theme. Where Klaus states “I like to look at my photos again and again and immediately remember the underlying landscape”, It made me think of the reasons taking a photograph to so important, it’s a nostalgia moment of that specific time, without the image would be even remember it at all in the long run?

What is it that brings you back to Iceland again and again?
It is the incredible nature of Iceland with it’s nativeness, with it’s contraste, with it’s beauty, with it’s roughness, with it’s sensitiveness, with it’s thousands of motifs and with it’s friendly and peaceful people (to only name a few of my reasons why I like to visit Iceland). In the last couple of years I’ve been there for 5 times and I travelled more than 25.000 kilometers through the whole country. Whenever it’s possible, I’ll visit it again.

PHOT203: Critical Analysis Of Interviews.
In response to my Interviews with Kelly May, Freddie Ardley, Klaus Ratzer and  Matias Alonso Revelli, I want to go over and highlight the key factors that lead to my initial conversations with the artist to intensify on the a key subject that I want broaden on from year one’s PDP interviews.
At the start, I wanted to find artists that were a big inspiration to me which was Sian Davey and  Suki Dhana, I chose these two as they both represented a made professional, one being self acclaimed and the other with the PCA Alumni group, these were two important factors to me although It may have been a long shot to reach out to these two artists I felt it necessary as a starting point in my education. After two weeks with no reply from either Sian or Suki, I felt it was time to move on to a broader spectrum to get things rolling, I reached out to 7 Artists from which 4 replied (promptly) who were open for discussion about their work and surrounding creative life. With this is mind I needed to think about the questions that would be sufficient with their work ethic, creativity and motives for future tasks. The interview questions that I prepared for them were a brief but in depth peek into their lives, ranging from their technical skills, their journey and recent prospects.
Here is the interview questions with my intention:
What details do you believe make the best photographs, how do you go about focusing on them in your work?
Different photographers may have different answers here depending on the specifics of the task itself, but an eye for detail is absolutely necessary for any successful photographer. I wanted to learn what kind of things stand out the most for each individual artist and think about them independent to each person.
What was your career path? How did you get from being an aspiring photographer to actually doing it for a living?
This allows a great insight on personal motivation and the link between past intentions to the present day self. Setting a target to strive for can be hard for an artist, so I set this question in a reflective nature to give myself more info on their current self towards past endeavours.
How did you know what kind of photography you wanted to get into?
I wanted to personally find out how the artist found themselves essentially(as this is something not only myself but a lot of artists get frustrated about) , bringing them to the journey that took them to a professional state and bringing them to question the lifestyles they have chosen.
What professional photographers have influenced your work, and how do you incorporate their techniques into your photographs? -
This question allows me to learn a little bit more about each artists background. While there are many influential photographers/artists that could have an impact on the artists work, it is a good idea to map those influences to see if there is overlap in their technique.
FREDDIE ARDLEY -
Freddie’s quick response to my Tumblr message gave me a glimmer of hope that there is a chance of connecting with an artist. With this new hope I sprung into action as an exited learner and swiftly responded with the questions. Freddie Ardley then got back to me within the next day and enlightened me photographically on his own experiences. As the response was a huge step forward for me to collaborate, I was astounded with his in depth answers that evaluated his work ethic and motivation behind his intentions with photography. Freddie Ardley being a London based photographer brought things closer to home in the careers sector, giving me extra knowledge of the industry within the UK and how to attain it as an artist.
MATIAS ALONSO REVELLI -
I initially followed Matias through the Instagram community beforehand which brought me to be more in touch with his photographic needs of the sky and vivid colouring. I connected through Tumblr and formally sent him an invitation for open conversation about the arts he produced, to which he replied the next hour happy to help. (I was I key to my research that I try my best to contact through different platforms i.e Instagram, Tumblr and email). Matias went through with me about his thoughts on being a photographer as a passion and hobby throughout his existence and made it clear he is always trying to push his creativity whether that be as a professional or just in his spare time. This interview made me realise that finding an interest in my ability might just lead to the path of photography that is best suited to my needs.
KLAUS RATZER -
Klaus was extremely helpful in the industry section as he gave great details about his side passion in photography and about his award winning in the Photokina Fair in Cologne in 2008. His truthful nature towards his passion shines through in the interview questions as he brings his own theme to conversation in expression of wording. With his main subject being Landscape it gave some insight to my own projects (not only this one) in the 202 module through planning out lighting, composure and contrast in photography. The  extensive Interview was an eye opener for possibility that stem from entering competitions/making a name for myself.  He explained that It is okay not to know what kind of photography you might want to do, as it is all part of the journey to learner what you want to do in life. The large amount of artists that influenced  his work and continue to inspire him today share a common bond with myself as I look up to photographer such as Ansel Adams and Steve McCurry myself, relating to his ideology of photography and sharing a passion.
KELLY MAY -
I found Kelly May through the PCA Alumni website page, I felt that including a illustrator alongside photographers brings another side to a creative interview, getting a sizeable opinion on what can become of motivation in the workplace. Kelly gave me awareness of the trouble of overthinking designs and that sometimes simplicity is best, this distinctively shine through in her work as she depicts minimalist visuals of everyday scenery. With here honest love on Illustration it is easy to see she loves what she does through the imagination of her work. She states that Illustration is a flexible career choice and that to this day finds herself “funny” as she sees her self still reaching for the stars although she has a great skill and is working towards a hopeful future. She said “When you don’t have clients, it’s a great opportunity to create your own briefs” I enjoyed that she acknowledged the struggle students go through with handling clients and makes me think about the setting for my own client in this module, to be a professional but never forget to create to keep inspiration flowing!
These interviews were essential to my learning as they provided a step for me to study and exelerate my knowledge of understanding their point of view.
These four creative artists helped me on my journey on finding where I belong as this these interviews I felt was a great part in learning from the best and following in their steps to overcome and create my career path. It helped me figure out the position I am currently in with the position I chose to be in the future, putting my mind to rest over any worries of finding where I belong.
