fic rec friday 37
hello and welcome to fic rec friday! where, on friday, i rec five of my favourite fics.
1. Fade to Black by @yokohogawa
Things between Keith and Lance are changing but Keith is restless, especially with Shiro still weak, and ends up taking a bad decision: he leaves Lance alone in the Castle with a Lion he cannot pilot. Unable to form Voltron without the newly appointed Red Paladin, the four Paladins left struggle against the sudden attack of a Galra ship and later on take damage from the explosion of a star in close proximity. Lance, on the other end, is left to defend the Castle by himself and has little time to succeed: without energy, the Lions have only 6 hours of breathable air. Beyond that point, his friends will be dead.
okay yes technically this series is unfinished. HOWEVER the first two works ARE finished, and they are amazing showstopping incredible etc. tbh im not much of a black paladin lance fan, i genuinely think solo leadership is not what he is suited for, but this fic made me way more open to it. the way he handled severe crises was as fear stricken as it was awe inspiring highly recommend
2. once again i am a child by @lilaclavenders
“You’re not a spare tyre,” Adam interjects.  “I know that,” Lance says, too unsure to sound completely defensive.   “That almost sounded like a question.” “No... it didn’t,” Lance says.
Lance and Adam talk.
i have always been a fan of lance and adam even tho its the most evidence lacking fanon thing in this fandom. its truly just so interesting. and to have lance as a young cadet getting slammed so badly just in so many different directions being given at least one grownup in his corner...its a good read.
3. Lance the language man by @irish-vampire-blog
Lance didn't really try to learn a language. He just, kind of, picks up the basics and then works from there. Its usually unintentional. Ish.
He isn't stupid though. He isn't an idiot. He just isn't the same kind of smart as his friends are.
this kind of smart for lance is so REAL bc no he cannot do like quantum physics or whatever probably but the way he seems to have a pretty innate ability to successfully do many things that he tries. he just can u know?? thats the autism with the gay audacity i would imagine but i love seeing fics like this
4. my boyfriend's back (and you're gonna get in trouble) by teacupfulofbrains
hey la, hey la, my boyfriend's back
Keith Kogane has never heard of Vine. Lance McClain takes personal offense to this, and makes it his personal mission to teach his boyfriend to meme. Keith is confused, mostly.
(OR: several instances of Keith not getting the meme™ and two times he did)
I LOVE THIS FIC SO BAD I CANT BELIEVE I HAVENT RECCED IT BEFORE. yes i am a cringe zillenial who still finds vine funny and quotes it on the internet but truly idc idc. this fic is funny. this fic is cute. established klance my love and light. also keith comparing lances eyes to the star of bombay is some of the gayest shit ever and also the only time i will entertain blue eyed lance
5. The Most Dangerous Thing is to Love by running_downn
Last time something like this happened to Lance, Keith wasn’t there. He’d thought he would have been able to do something if he had been there, or at least if he was, the guilt wouldn’t be so heavy on his chest. But this time he was there. He was right fucking there and he decided that it was infinitly worse.
~
Basically there's a new threat after the Galra and it almost kills Lance. Desperate making out ensues, but it's okay to recognize when it's not the right time for it. Keith cries a lot cause he's older and grizzled and therefore not as emotionally stunted.
green sock reality? team still out fighting as adults and lance isn’t a fucking farmer while the rest of the team isn’t? keith’s abandonment issues treated with respect and dignity and also the acknowledgement that he’s older and therefore mature enough to handle those issues in a way that doesn’t risk a relationship that is important to him? lance understanding all this and using the supportive nature he is known for??? yes yes yes. stellar fic that should have way more hits than it does
that’s it for today!! i’ll see y’all back next friday for the next fic rec post!!!

Miscommunication
Pt two :)
Thank you for everyone who read part one and pushed for a part two <33333
Part One
(As soon as I find it on Tumblr I’ll update the link but for now AO3 will have to do)
-----
Keith stared at his ceiling, his eyes blurring the dark grey color. It had been a week now. A week since the fight with Lance. A week since he tried to tell Lance everything and explain and take accountability. A week since Lance spoke with him.
They were still forced to be in the same room for training and missions. But Lance kept his eyes down and his lips sealed. Keith had never missed the color blue so much in his life.
"Alright everyone, good work today. We'll be in the next solar system tomorrow, please get some rest tonight. We have a big day tomorrow." Shiro sent everyone a smile.
Keith lowered his head and turned to leave. He felt suffocated in this space. He knew it was his fault and he wasn't mad at Lance. But, being in the airlock would probably be better than this.
"Keith, stay for a minute," Shiro said.
He swallowed down the urge to scream but forced his feet to stop. Letting his team pass him. Leaving the two men in stiff silence.
Shiro took a couple of steps toward him, "is everything okay?"
Keith chewed on his inner cheek, turning so he could face Shiro. Keeping his eyes cast downward. "Everything is fine."
Shiro made a sound of disbelief. "Can you tell me the truth?"
"I am."
"No, you're not. You don't think I know when you're lying?"
Keith shrugged. He knew Shiro did. He had spent months picking him apart when he took him under his wing all those years ago. "I just...messed up."
"How so?" Shiro's voice was light and comforting. A tone he reserved for when Keith had a moment or him and Adam talked after a small fight.
Keith moved his hands to gesture into the empty air. Praying for the older man would understand what he was trying to say. As if the air had words he simply had to read.
"...um...do you want to explain?"
Keith released an annoyed sigh. He wasn't frustrated at Shiro, more at himself. Why was he so bad at just talking? "I just." His fingers twisted around his hair, pulling on it slightly. He fought the urge to cave into himself. He could fight the Galrans. He could fight Zarkon. But, he didn't want to deal with this. A rejection that could have been avoided if he just communicated.
Shiro grabbed his wrist gently, pulling his hands from his hair. Something he used to have to do before he left for Kerberos. "Want to get cleaned up and meet me in my room?"
Keith nodded and they both left the room.
Roughly an hour later Keith knocked on Shiro's room, running a towel through his hair. He immediately flopped on his bed, pressing his face into one of his pillows.
Shiro sat down next to him. "Think you can talk now?"
"I don't know," his voice was muffled by the fabric but he didn't care.
"Do you want some help?"
He nodded his head, rolling himself to the side, staring at nothing.
"Does it have something to do with Lance?"
He nodded, a burning sensation forming behind his eyes.
Shiro gave a small nod. "He doesn't like you back?" He hesitantly asked.
Keith shook his head, the burn getting stronger.
Shiro made a questioning sound, "okay...I'm confused."
Keith closed his eyes, trying to stop the burning feeling from consuming him. "He likes me but he thought all my flirting was me mocking him."
The air shifted into a heavy feeling. It was hard to explain the main emotion. Maybe guilt? "I'm not mad at you Shiro."
Shiro leaned forward, resting his head in his hands. Keeping his eyes on the ground. "I wouldn't be upset if you were. I should have encouraged you to be direct."
"I should have just been direct by myself. I could have just...told him and faced whatever outcome he presented. Which...would have been better." Keith pushed himself up. Mimicking Shiro's posture.
They both sat in silence. Shiro, for once, was at a loss for words.
---
"Paladins!" Allura's voice boomed across the bridge. Her eyes filled with fire as the five humans entered her space. "Would anyone like to explain what that was?!"
All of them, but Lance, shared a look of fear. Shiro cleared his throat. "We couldn't form Voltron."
Allura shot daggers at him with her eyes. Nobody was upset that she was mad. She had to not only fend off an entire fleet but take down the robo-beast with just the castle. "I can see that. Does anyone want to explain why?"
Nobody spoke. Shiro looked at Keith who met his eye for a second before starting at the ground. Hunk and Pidge glanced at Lance who was still staring out the glass window. Seeming unbothered by the whole ordeal.
Keith squeezed his hands closed. "It was my fault. I'm the reason we couldn't form Voltron."
Allura's eyes softened a bit at his confession and she took her own deep breath. "Okay. This is the start. Do you know why?"
Keith tried to ignore how everyone stared at him. Well, all but one person. Keeping his eyes on the ground. Trying to find dirt that wasn't there. "I...hurt Lance."
The room was silent.
Nobody was really surprised, anyone could see the distance between them. But hearing it verbalized did make it a reality.
Allura nodded, her eyes shifting to the Blue paladin. His eyes closed. His body stiff.
Keith continued, saying what he could to clear the air. To make Lance listen. "It was my fault. I should have been direct with him and told him my intentions from the start. But I...wasn't. And I hurt him. And Lance," was he even listening? "I'm sorry for that."
Nobody moved. The air grew awkwardly tense around them.
"Lance?" Allura asked, her voice unsure.
He looked at her, "what Princess?" His voice was venom, spitting out the two words as if they burned him.
Her face shifted to a shocked expression. He had never spoken to her like that before. "I'm sorry? Is that anyone to speak to any of us?"
He rolled his eyes at her, "my apologizes your highness. I'll just forgive Keith like that," he snapped his fingers. "The universe is more important than my feelings anyways." He turned and stormed out of the room. Ignoring Coran's and Shiro's calls for him.
Keith closed his eyes. He ruined everything.
---
Lance screamed into his pillow again, slamming his fist on the soft mattress a couple of times before he stopped. Letting himself roll to the side so he could breathe. Tears streaked his face. He tried to catch his breath through the gasps and hiccups in his chest.
He hated him.
But he didn't at the same time. That's why he was so upset with himself. His chest hurt so much. All he wanted was one of his mama's hugs.
His door swooshed open, and Coran confidently walked in with a sad expression. The door closed. Of course, he would force the door open. "Lance." His voice was low and comforting. No negative emotions plagued it.
Lance threw a pillow at him, the older man stepping effortlessly to the side. "Leave me alone. Don't Alteans know a locked door means don't enter?"
"I'm not leaving you alone until you tell me what's going on."  Coran leaned against the wall. A somber look on his face.
Lance wiped his face, growing frustrated at the new tears that quickly replaced the old. "Keith said it all. He hurt me and that's that."
"I feel like there's more to the story my boy."
Lance pulled on his hair some, trying to stop the sobs from escaping his lips. "Just." The words died in his throat. He took a deep breath. "I like him. So much. So much it hurts and he just...played me like my feelings were nothing."
Coran sighed, not in annoyance but in thought. "How do you know he doesn't feel the same?"
Lance groaned, "because why would he? He's...he's Keith and I'm just...Lance."
"Just Lance?"
"Yeah...no one special. I don't bring much to the team...and he's Keith. Top of the class, the best of the best. He's just...he deserves better than me."
"You don't believe him? That he likes you?"
"I can't bring myself to."
Coran moved and sat on the bed by him. Wrapping his arms around him. Letting Lance cry for as long as he needed.
---
Lance didn't leave his room for the next three days. Coran and Hunk brought him food. Being able to talk for him for a couple of moments at a time before they were dismissed. Keith paced his room, he didn't know what to do. The team was falling apart, they couldn't form Voltron, and Keith didn't know how to fix it.
Someone knocked on his door and he quickly opened it. "Coran?"
"Hello, number four. Do you have a second to talk?"
Keith nodded and allowed the Altean to enter his room. The door closed behind him. "I want to talk about your situation with Lance."
Keith sucked in a sharp breath. He knew this conversation was bound to happen. Coran was bound to yell at him at one point. Everyone knew he had a soft spot for the Blue Paladin. "Okay."
Coran gave him a small smile, trying to reassure him. "Lance doesn't believe you and he doesn't think your feelings for him are genuine."
"I know."
"But I don't think it's a lost cost."
Keith looked at the older man. "What do you mean?"
"I think you need to show him that you do feel the same."
Keith frowned, "I can't kiss him unprompted."
Coran shook his head, "no my boy. Not like that. Plan a small date with him. Make him something, do something to show him you're serious." Coran dropped his head slightly, "he doesn't feel good enough for you."
Keith felt his mouth fall open, "what?! He said that?"
Coran nodded, "yes. He says 'you're you and I'm me.' I'm not sure what that means but he doesn't think you actually like him for that reason."
Keith stared at his boots, "I'll see what I can do."
Coran placed a hand on his shoulder, giving him a reassuring squeeze. "I know you're worried about the team. About Voltron. But, fix this for you two first. The team will come after."
Keith reached up and touched the older man's hand. "Thank you."
---
He patted down his shirt one more time. Checking himself over in the mirror before stepping into his bedroom. Everything was set up. Snacks, courteous of Hunk. Blankets, extra pillows, and a projector with some random Altean movie loaded up on it. Now all he needed was Lance.
He stepped out of his room, taking a couple of steps to Lance's room. He knocked a bit harder than he wanted and crossed his arms while he waited.
Lance opened the door, his expression hardening when he saw him. He turned to close the door but Keith put himself in the way. "WAIT! Just...listen for a second."
Lance didn't move, his eyes cold.
Keith licked his lips in nervousness. "Do you want to come to my room? Watch a movie? I have snacks."
Lance looked him up and down a couple of times. His face unreadable. "Fine."
Keith blinked, he wasn't expecting him to say yes. "I uh...okay. You can just come over whenever."
Lance nodded, "give me a couple of minutes."
Lance showed up roughly ten minutes later. Wearing his pajamas and taking home as far away from Keith as he could. Sitting near the door. His arms crossed and feet tucked under him.
Keith kept his feet stretched out in front of him. His arms crossed as he leaned against the base of his bed. The movie wasn't too bad. It had its funny moments. And god did Keith miss Lance's laugh.
The movie ended and Keith let his hand fall back on the bed. Blindly reaching for the bowl of "Space Chips" as Hunk called them. His fingers grazed Lance's and they both froze. Their hands stayed in the same spot. Keith looked at the other boy who was staring at their hands. His face twisted into sadness. "Lance-"
"Why can't I just be enough?" His voice was low, cracking on the words.
"What?"
Lance pulled his hand away, hugging his knees into his chest. "I just want to be enough for once. For the team, for Voltron," he sighed. "For you."
"Why don't you think you're enough?"
Lance laughed, wiping his eyes slightly. "I'm just a boy from Cuba, just a nobody. The baby of the family that was overlooked. A cargo pilot that turned fighter because you left. I don't have anything for myself. I just fill in where others lack."
Keith swallowed down the anger that formed in his gut. "You're more than that."
"Am I?"
"Yes. God if you could see how I see you, you would understand."
Lance looked at him, his eyes red. "And how do you see me?"
Keith furrowed his brows, he was never good with words.
Lance scoffed, "would figure." He started to stand but Keith lunged toward him and grabbed his arm.
"No...I just needed a second." He tightened his grip slightly. "You're the light of the room. No matter what people are feeling you make them laugh and smile. You're the glue of the team. Haven't you seen how terrible everyone has been acting since you locked yourself away? You're the Blue Paladin. None of us would be here if you didn't come with me to Blue. She was waiting for you. No one else. God, I just need you to see that you're worth effort and love and attention and I like you so much-"
Lips crashed against his. Messily. Taking a second for their mouths to fall into place together. Their teeth clacked a few times. He tugged Lance down some, causing the other boy to fall on top of him. Keith wrapped his arms around him as they kissed. Trying to get as close as he could to the other boy.
Lance pulled away first, breathing heavily in the small space between them. "You meant that?"
Keith could only muster a nod. He wasn't complaining about the kissing but he didn't expect him saying a few words to lead to it.
Lance pressed another kiss to his lips. "That was the nicest thing anyone had ever said to me."
"I'll make sure to say it every day then."
They reconnected their lips. Pulling each other as close as they could.

Happy ending <333333

You are magnificent.
And I know I’m not great with my words so I apologise if this is clunky as all hell, but I NEED to let you know how much your writing means to me.
I have spent the past two ish weeks working my way through every last one of your vld fics, to be honest I can’t remember how I stumbled across the first one I read, but it drew me in and now I’ve read ALL OF THEM
Your wit and your skill is unmatched, let me tell you I felt for the characters in every single one. I agonised over the klangst, my eyes strained to read sometimes at 3am when I couldn’t possibly go to sleep not knowing what was going to happen next, and I smiled to myself over the funny bits. I’m being serious when I say that I dreamt about your writing.
Thank you, for bringing me these gorgeous AU’s and fics filled with angst and crack and humour and letting the characters shine and feel so, so authentic. You are a genuine godsend, even though you haven’t written for vld in four years I’m still listening to the authors notes that said to come scream at you on tumblr. Because here I am, screaming at you, In my vld fan torture chamber, pointing at the shrine I have dedicated you your writing.
you liar you said you weren't good with your words!! i've never had someone say they DREAMT about my writing before, damn near stole my heart right out of my chest you conman
i'm glad you enjoyed the fics, as old as they are. if i had any creative juices left in me, i'd write more just for you <3

I Hello everyone. I have decided to take a bit of a break from tumblr after seeing some things I want desperately to un-see. I will still post at least tomorrow's klangst, but there is a high chance I'm not going to be interacting or positing on here as much for possibly a week or so.
I will still be around a bit, but probably not very often.

PLEASE DONT REPOST MY WORK WITHOUT ASKING ME
I don't think you guys know how disheartening it is to post something that I might take weeks to do on here (and I'm sure you all know I really put my heart into whatever I make), and then find it on Instagram where it's doing much better- like thousands upon thousands of likes- but I'm getting none of it because I haven't been credited. I'll post something and think it's not doing well because no one's interacting with it or something, I don't know, but then I'm sent a link to the same work on Instagram and it has amazing numbers but no one knows who wrote it.
I know it sounds stupid, but this is so totally frustrating to me. Therefore, please be a decent person and
ASK FOR PERMISSION TO REPOST MY WORK !!!
I'm not mean or scary so don't hesitate to send me a dm asking if its okay to do something. I may say no, I may say yes but you need to ask first.
Also if you ever see anything with my username on it anywhere, please please let me know. I'd greatly appreciate it !

Monster
Klangst week day 6: Human/Alien
@klangst-week
(FYI Keith is sick during all of this)
Keith could hear them screaming. Their voice are full of anger, fear, and rage. They were screaming,
"Monster!"
"Freak!"
"Hybrid!"
"One of them!"
"Evil!"
"You're going to kill us!"
"Animal!"
"Off the team!"
Keith knew they were yelling at the Galrans, they always did. But the worst part was; they were screaming at him. They were afraid of him. Keith looked down at his skin and it was a violet purple. Keith looked back at his friends faces. They all look disappointed in him.
"Get out of here, Galra." Lance said, his words like poison. Keith felt the tears run down his face as Lance pointed his shotgun at him. He didn't even move when he heard the trigger and felt the final blow hit his chest.
——————————————————
Keith woke up with a yelp, bolting upright. He felt the tears running down his face as he swayed backwards, only to be caught by two ice cold hands.
"WOAH, Keith!" Lance's panicked voice ran in his head. He looked up to see Lance's worried expression to match his tone. Keith felt the tears in his eyes and threw his arms around Lance, crying softly into his chest. Lance was shocked for a moment, but quickly began to soothe the younger Paladin.
"Hey, Hey. It's okay, Keith, it's okay. It was just a nightmare. You're fine." He began to rock Keith back and forth to calm him down. His face burned against Lance's skin, which was usually a little cold. Lance sat Keith up and felt his forehead, wincing when he felt the burning heat coming off it.
"Jesus, Keith, you're on fire." Keith's stomach churned as he put his arms around his sides. He leaned his head against Lance's shoulder blade, not realizing or caring about how open he was being. That was, until, he realized his ears were up. He quickly shoved himself off of Lance and forced them down.
"Keith...?" Lance moved his hands to grab Keith's and ease them down, but Keith jerked back, eyes wide in fear.
"Woah, easy, Keith. It's just me. It's Lance. Calm down." Lance tried to get Keith's hands down again, but Keith started gripping his ears. Lance grabbed Keith's hands and held them down, moving them to under his knees and holding Keith's face with his hands.
"It's okay, Keith, it's okay. You're okay. I need you to focus on me, okay? Can you do that?" Lance rubbed Keith's face soothingly, sensing that something was really wrong. Keith broke out into a cold sweat and his eyes were searching everywhere for something to focus on, but they were so lost. The poor boy was breathing heavily and he was shaking.
Lance realized what was happening right then and there.
"Oh shit... okay, Keith, I need you to breathe, okay? In and out. In and out." Keith wasn't following what Lance was saying and started trying to get his arms back. He was pushing and pulling and kicking at Lance, but he stayed there and took the blows. He eventually grabbed Keith's hands and rubbed them soothingly, trying to ease his panicked state.
"Keith, it's okay, you're okay. There's nothing to worry about. You're fine. I promise you, nothing is going to happen to you." Lance tried to remember what his mamí told him to do when his sister ever had a panic attack while they weren't there, seeing as he was the third oldest and she was the fifth. Count to ten... was it count up or down? Lance didn't have much time to figure that out because Keith started hyperventilating.
Up or down, up or down... screw it. Lance thought.
"Keith, I want you to count to ten for me. Can you do that?" Keith was shaking and his eyes were looking everywhere. Lance held his face and moved it towards Lances so he could look at Keith directly in the eye. His eyes were fevered and they looked dulled, like the life was being sucked out of them.
"Keith, it's okay. I'm right here. Focus on me and only me. Count with me, ready? Focus. Breathe. Count with me, okay? One..." Lance waited for a response, and after a minute, Keith slowly started to speak.
"O-one..."
"Good. Come on, keep going. You got this. One, two..." Lance said. Rubbing Keith's hands comfortingly.
"T-t-two-o.... O-o-o-o-n-n-n-n-e-e-e... t-t-t-t-w-w-w-w-o-o-o-o-o.... t-t-t-th-th-th-th-r-r-e-e-e-e-e... f-f-f-f-fo-fo-o-o-o-U-u-u-r-r-r... f-f-f-f-I-I-v-v-e-e-e-e...S-s-s-si-si-six-x-x... s-s-s-se-se-se-v-v-ven-n... e-e-ei-eight-t... n-n-ni-nine-e... t-ten..." Lance sighed as Keith finished counting. He smiled at Keith, but noticed that his hands were still shaking a little. His teeth were chattering and his face looked flushed. Lance pressed a hand against Keith's forehead, and Keith moved into it.
"My god - Keith you're on fire. Here, lie down." Keith originally protested, but he couldn't fight it once he practically collapsed against Lances chest. Lance blushed for a second, but quickly realized how exhausted Keith was and eased him back down onto the bed. Lance got up to grab a washcloth to put on Keith's forehead, but he felt a small tug on his jacket, like one of his siblings used to. He turned around to see Keith turned to face him, his hand lightly pulling on Lance's Jacket.
"D-don't leave..." Lance looked down at the younger Paladin and felt pity; he'd been keeping up this, "I'm okay" act for so long and now it's starting to hurt him.
"Okay, bud. I won't go anwhere." Lances it's back on the bed and Keith motions for Lance to lie down with him. He did so, and soon, Keith fell asleep. Lance smiled at how adorable Keith looked. His defined jaw, his bangs lightly sticking over his face, his lips paled and slightly opened. He looked beautiful, and his ears made him look all the more adorable. Lance smiled and pet Keith’s head as he fell asleep.

Klangst Week day 5
Create/Ruin
Pairing: Keith/Lance
@klangst-week
--------------------------------------------- Lance had not painted in a long time.
He had never considered himself an artist, he believed his real talent lied in piloting. That was why he chose the garrison, he wanted to be a pilot. He was good at it. With a pilot license, he can make a fantastic career out of it and maybe support his family. They were doing okay last time he was at Earth, but no family could refuse a little bump of support every now and then. With Lance’s large family and how his mama was pretty much the iron fist of the bundle of chaos, it would do good for her to relax. For the family to not worry about bills as much as they did. He would be right up there supporting the family, just like he always wanted whenever they found themselves in a bad situation.
Yet every now and then he would take up art. He would spread out colors, his narrative lost in the sea of purples and reds. His brush would gently glide across the canvas, weaving tales of adventures or sorrows with a flick of a wrist. Worlds that never came to be in his reality, but existed in his head, made a home on the canvas. Sometimes he’d paint his family when he was homesick, but lately he had been running out of the earth paint he managed to scour the last time him and the team were at the mall. So he kept the paints hidden away until the time he really needed them popped up. He could still sketch, but with how intense the fighting with the galra empire raged, time was limited.
When he picked up his paints again, he hoped it would be out of nostalgia. Out of homesickness, or even joy.
He would have never thought it was for a death.
Hunk had suggested it. For the funeral, that is. They had pictures, but they were never in the right angle, or were extremely blurry due to the excitement at the time. He did warn Lance it would be okay not to create the painting, Hunk was sure Allura knew someone else. Maybe Shiro had some better pictures on hand. Lance just shook his head, proclaiming it would be okay. That he would rather show the beauty he saw and never forgot it, for he knew time would be cruel and strip away his memory bit by bit. No matter how hard he tried.
So he locked himself away in his room, switched on some soothing music as background noise, and set up his easel. There were three colors he had yet to use significantly. He planned to use as much as he could of them and incorporate everyone’s feelings into them. To create a vision only he and those cherished would understand.
Black, for the tufts of softness blowing in the warm air of Aris. The angry strikes amidst battle against the Atlean training robot. The scraggly, defensive curls whipping back and forth between galra enemies and galra trials. The occasional strand tickling the edge of Lance’s nose as they shared the same bed.
Red, for the phony jacket Lance constantly commented on, both good and bad. The quick and hotheaded lion, zooming into packs of galra fleets. The melting of frozen hearts, lava oozing into the crevices of the fragile organ wishing to turn away from what he wanted most. For the crimson dust growing on Lance’s cheeks, for the outline of plump skin meeting Lance’s forehead, dampened by a stray tear from both parties.
Purple for the mixing of their assigned colors, red and blue taking on a soft violet hue. The gentle caresses late at night, when nightmares tear them apart, but touch brought them together. The eyes that bore down at him sweetly, filled with content and adoration. The separation of their love, a dark violet retreating into the hallway where a Blade vessel awaited, leaving behind a hand grasping for the figure. The barrier of their feelings, shadows lurking in the corners of their minds. The eventual clash of their reunion, no longer looking to the stars for comfort. The all too soon blaze, wiping away the red meant to mix with blue, leaving him yearning for the fusion of two souls once again.
by the time he was finished, paint stained his hands and tears dripped onto his pants, the rivulets never ceasing. Not even as he brought the piece to the team.
He didn’t need a title. Everyone already knew.
Keith.

i hate adding the colours (so boring)
As he retreated to his room, Lance considered his options. He could try to get over Keith. He could sit in this bedroom for days, trying to make sense of the situation at hand. Or he could lock himself in this bathroom until the problems solved themselves.
A few minutes turned to hours, hours turned to days, and the Paladins became concerned. After all, this was Lance we were talking about. Lance was always happy, always laughing, always extroverted. But not anymore. He hadn't left the bathroom for three days and was surviving off tap water (it’s filtered. He’s not a COMPLETE heathen). He couldn't go much longer without food though, so the Paladins worked in shifts to sit outside Lance’s room so they could catch him as he left.
Lance never did.
It was Allura who entered the room first, Pidge assisting her in overriding the door’s code. There Lance sat, curled up in a ball, eyes wide and unblinking. He was high. On what, though? There weren't exactly many drug dealers around this part of the Universe. But Keith knew because he had felt this way before.
Lance was high on despair.

fic rec friday 46
hello and welcome to fic rec friday! where, on friday, i rec five of my favourite fics.
habits of my heart by tusslee
Keith swallowed nervously, afraid to ask what it was Lance wanted, but his mouth was ahead of his brain, “What do you want then?” “You. All the time. In every sense. It’s insane.” Lance said with a laugh that sounded a little manic. “I want to hold your hand and shit. I want to just be near you, like some love-sick girl, but I think that’s what I am. I think I fucking love you, holy shit.”
no bc i need yall to understand how batshit insane i went when reading this specific piece of dialgue in-story the first time. im pretty sure i actually gasped out loud. the easy immediate and pained you oh i did not recover for a long ass time
2. falling by tusslee
Lance was also not entirely the idiot everyone thought him to be. Oblivious in some aspects, yes. Naïve to an extent, also yes. But Lance knew a little bit of the psychology behind dreams and how they were basically your subconscious projecting your fears, or whatever. Okay so he didn’t know the exact details, but he knew enough to piece together why his fear of falling was quickly becoming the main focus of his dreams night after night. And of course like everything else that went wrong in Lance’s life, it was Keith’s fault.
I LOVE ME SOME GAY METAPHORS ‼️‼️‼️ like i wonder why you are afraid of falling lance!! and i wonder what is going to soothe that fear!! hm!!! what mystery!!! what intrigue!! HM!!!!!!!!!!!!!
3. curing space blues by tusslee
The weightlessness of zero gravity doesn’t apply to feelings, Lance learns.
i'll read homesick lance and awkward but determined to help keith a thousand times in a thousand different ways idc. it never ever gets old. bc it's just so true that is what happened is it not. this is them
4. wherever you will go by tusslee
“I want to be someone you count on and come to when you’re upset. I want to be important to you, Lance, because you’re really important to me.” Silence stretched between them when Keith lost the nerve to continue. He kept his eyes on their hands, noticed the color contrast between them and wondered if it’d look so profound if it was more than just their fingers twined together.
first of all. lance calling keith red and keith calling lance pretty. send tweet. second of all. choked up by his own difficulty expressing emotions but so deeply loving that he tries anyway keith makes me actually sob with my real tears every single time. without fail. keith i love you keith you are so everything keith you do all that you do with everything you have to give
5. Guy That I'd Kinda be Into by spirkylurkey
Lotor thinks Lance is cute. So does Keith. They're all in a floating space-castle together. This is going to be a problem. i miss the good old days!! when messy dumb comedic gay love triangles were abundant!! they were so much fun!! and so for you i present a messy dumb comedic gay love triangle. i also miss the animatic that used to exist with the song from the title. old voltron you were a mess and a half and i miss you truly
that’s it for today!! i’ll see y’all back next friday for the next fic rec post!!!

Klangst Week {Forget}
AO3
First prompt for @klangst-week is done!
Day 1: Forget
Keith is use to pain.
Maybe this makes him a masochist, but he actually likes the pain he gets. Well, only the physical kind. He’s use to that more than the other kind. It helps to remind him he’s alive, and it's something he can push away with the help of adrenaline. But the other kind of pain? He absolutely hates it.
There are two kinds of pain. The physical, and the emotional. With emotional pain, he’s absolutely powerless. It’s no secret that Keith isn’t the most sociable one in the group, which often usually leads to him being left behind and clueless when it comes to social cues. So, to avoid getting hurt and pushed aside, he stays away from social situations.
At least, that was until he started falling in love with a certain blue eyed moron. Whether Lance knew it or not, he helped in bringing Keith closer to the group and helped him find his place with the rest of the team.. It had taken Keith a while to discover that the feelings he felt around Lance were actually making him giddy with affection and not urging him to punch his face whenever Keith came into contact with him. He had realized his feelings for Lance when he came back to team Voltron after his time with the BOM to rescue the real Shiro, but the moment Keith actually fell in love with Lance was the day when Lance had thrown himself on top of Coran to save him, and had ended up severely injured due to the explosion that happened. The moment Keith offered Lance his hand to help him up, he hadn’t felt the same whenever those eyes of his looked at him.
Keith wasn’t the only one feeling these things either. Lance had started falling in love with him too, if the stolen moments they had when they were alone together was anything to discern from. In fact, it was Lance that had made the first move and kissed Keith the day they were all rushing towards their lions for a mission. Once everyone had left to their respective positions for battle, Lance had grabbed Keith’s arm and pulled him to a stop. And before Keith could have said anything, Lance had pressed his lips against his in a light and short kiss before he pulled away, smiled and said “ Go get ‘em, Samurai,” before leaving a very red faced Keith behind.
That was also the day everything went wrong. One of the Galra fighter ships had knocked Blue around hard enough that all that could be heard from Lance was a sharp cry of pain, the kind of pain that the others would have felt even without their lions linking them to each other.
Everything had been a blur for Keith from that point. He remembered maybe blasting through the fighter with Red’s beam. He remembered rushing Red towards the Blue lion that lay motionless in space, not a peep heard from Lance himself. Someone must’ve brought Lance’s lion inside the castle, he just couldn’t remember who because next thing he knew he was rushing to the Blue lion’s cockpit. He remembered Lance’s body slumped over in his pilot's seat, Allura rushing him to the healing pod, blood spilling down his unconscious face from a wound that couldn’t be seen on his head. Then he remembered waiting for what had felt like hours by the pod, watching Lance’s still frame behind the glass, and he remembered the joy and relief he felt when Lance emerged from the pod, groggy and muttering something about a headache. Hunk had been the first one to hug him then, before Pidge joined in while Keith had stood near them shifting awkwardly on both feet.
But most importantly, he remembered the look on Lance’s face when he saw Keith looking at him. His face had twisted to one of tired annoyance as he huffed and tilted his chin up, his brows furrowed and his lips turned down into a frown. “What are you looking at, mullet?’ Keith remembered him saying. After more probing and question asking from Allura and Coran, they decided that Lance had lost a good chunk of his memories of what had happened for the past six months. Including everything that had happened between him and Keith. Including the kiss.
Allura had reassured the team that Lance was bound to regain his memories, that his brain needed a moment to catch up to the fact that it was healed and not bruised like it had been when Lance was in the pod.
“ Still,” Allura had said, her brows furrowed in concern as she looked over Lance’s medical data. “ We mustn’t reveal much to him, or else his mind might overload from the amount of information it’s trying to restore. At best, I’d say we can only tell him that he’s missing his memories.”
Still, the days that went by was hell for Keith. Instead of the fond looks he had grown accustomed to seeing Lance send him, he found glares instead, as well as intense stares. He had started flirting with Allura again, something he hadn't done in a long time since he started flirting with Keith instead. But Keith had powered through, wanting to be patient with Lance until his memories returned.
But today had been the last straw. They had just finished saving a planet from the Galra and were being treated to with a party in their honor.
He had hoped to get to hang out with Lance a little, just to talk about whatever topic came to his mind at that moment. But instead, he found himself stuck in a corner unable to move as he watches Lance flirt shamelessly with a small group of alien girls who do nothing to mask the obviously interested looks they’re giving him. He watches as Lance particularly favors one girl out of the rest, the girl looking strangely similar to that Nyma chick they had met ages ago.
Guess Lance had a type when it came to alien girls. The only difference between this girl and Nyma is that she has blue eyes and a dark shade of blue for hair - if that was even hair - while Nyma had been blonde with violet eyes.
Keith frowns at the sight before bringing his attention to the strange alien drink in his hand that leaves his brain feeling fuzzy. Kinda like alcohol.
He likes that, so he drinks more of it. Anything to stop the pain he feels blossoming in his chest. He can see the disapproving stares he's getting from Shiro, but at the moment he can't seem to be bothered by it. Not when Lance is leaning closer into that girl’s space with secret smiles he's seen Lance use on him.
Keith brings his cup to his lips only to find it empty, so he relocates to a counter that rests against a corner away from Lance, layered with more drinks. With a new drink in hand, he decides to leave the party and just….roam the Palace. To clear my head , is what he thinks but really he just wants to be far far away from the party where Lance is busy flirting away with that girl.
Keith isn't sure how long he’s gone, or how long he’d been away from the party before he decides to head back. Shiro’s bound to be wondering where Keith is, so he’d better hurry back before he gets a lecture that’s even longer than the one he's sure he’ll get for ditching the party to roam. Thinking of what excuse he’ll say to Shiro that’ll avoid that pity look, he turns a corner he's memorized in case he gets lost and stops short, his breath hitching in his throat and the half empty glass in his hand slipping from his fingers to crash on the floor. He stands there wide eyed, jaw going slack as he watches the guy he loves lock lips with the girl he’d been flirting with moments before at the party.
The sound of the cup crashing on the floor is enough to reel Keith back from his trance, as well as gain the attention of Lance who pulls away from his very heated make out to look at Keith with an equal amount of surprise. Clearing his throat, Lance tilts his head to gestures behind him as he speaks, his cheeks burning red whether it be from the kiss or from being caught and by Keith no less.
“Hey man, mind giving us some privacy?”
Keith has some trouble forcing the words out through the lump that has formed in his throat. Finally managing out a mumbled apology before he ducks his head down and hurries away from them, walking back the way he came to find another path back to the party.
He can barely process where his feet take him as the image of Lance and that girl together replay over and over again in his head like some kind of movie scene from hell, his heart dropping down to his stomach and that pain in his chest blooming once more. His throat feels constricted and it doesn't take a genius to figure out that he's about to cry but there’s no way in hell he’ll cry at a party full of strangers. He’d wait until he’s in the privacy of his own room. Not wanting to stay there at the party any longer, much less in the Palace, he speed walks to where Shiro is standing chatting away with a few of the planets natives before turning to see Keith heading towards him.
“Hey, Keith!” Shiro beams cheerfully at his foster brother, not having noticed the depressed aura lingering around Keith as he makes his way closer. “I was just telling stories about Voltron’s adventures, if you’d like to tell any of your own….” He trails off, a small frown forming on his lips as he takes note of the way Keith's jaw clenches. “Keith? What’s wrong, are you okay?”
Keith only clears his throat before muttering a response, his head still ducked down. “I’m not feeling too well, so I was gonna head back to the castle and get some rest if that's alright with you.”
Shiro’s eyebrows furrow in concern, his gaze raking over Keith’s slumped figure. He did seem tired, but it also seemed more that just that.
“Yeah, okay. No worries, go on and rest up.”
Keith mutters a small thanks before turning to head away until Shiro’s voice stops him.
“He’ll get his memories back Keith. Don’t give up just yet, give it time.”
Keith is quiet for a moment, his back stiff and his fists clenched. Damn it, Shiro. “Thanks.”
And with that, Keith rushes out of the Palace and to where his lion sits patiently waiting for him. He hops into Red and flies her back to the Castle of Lions. His fingers tap restlessly against the controls, his eyes stinging a little with the promise of tears. Red sends a soothing purr to his mind, a purr so deep it vibrates his entire being. That’s what seems to push Keith to the brink. Red takes control and drives them to the castle where it looms above the planet with Coran on board. Since Red is taking the lead, it doesn’t take long until Keith breaks and pulls his legs up onto the seat, hugging his knees to his chest as hot wet tears slide down his cheeks.
He muffles his cries with his arms as he buries his face into them, his shoulders shaking from the force of his anguish.
Seeing Lance with someone else like that hurt much more than he thought it would. He’d felt emotional pain before when his dad left and Shiro disappeared. But he's never experienced a heartbreak quite like this. His heart feels as if it's tearing in two and he can feel the lump in his throat grow bigger, causing strangled gasps to leave him as if he were being suffocated. He feels sick, the tears making his cheeks feel moist and icky. The worst part is that there's nothing he can do about this either. The only thing he can do best is just wait.
Wait.
Wait.
