Lunsj. At det går and.

SOMMERFJAS with Teo Tomczuk
By Tayiba Haji
3 July 2024 at 15:47
Teo Tomczuk sits down with SOMMERFJAS 😎 🎵 ☀️
-
(y’all this one needed a lot of cultural context to understand properly so you can see my personal explanations/rambling below in red lol)
“Fellesferien” has officially started (this is also known as general staff vacation in English, a practice where all employees at a workplace have time off at the same time, and in Nordic countries this typically takes place during warmer months like August). And while some people turn their sights towards the South (warmer/more southern countries in Europe), others are settling in well at their Norwegian cabins.
The next man out for our Summer column is Teo Tomczuk (born in 2006).
You may know him as Mathias from the NRK series “Rykter”, but in his spare time Teo is also very involved in music.
[730.no](http://730.no) had a chat with the Bergen native about his summer favorites. As well as what we can expect from the highly anticipated third season of “Rykter”.
Tumblr media
Hi Teo! Do you have any exciting plans for the summer?
“I am going to play some concerts in Poland, and travel around Poland a bit. And I am going on vacation to Croatia with my best friend! It's a bit funny because all the “russegruppene” in all of Norway are going there exactly when we are going there."
(Russegruppene, or Russ groups, describe groups of students in their final semester of high school that celebrate the tradition of Russefeiring, or russ for short. This happens over a period of several weeks leading up to summer, and it is basically a continuous party commonly linked to drunkenness & public disturbances. It's also a tradition for the students to wear special overalls for the event, usually red or blue. Many groups choose to rent or buy party buses to drive around during this time. This tradition is unique to Norway and is an interesting read for those unfamiliar with it!)
Lovely! What kind of style do you go for in the summer then?
“I wear a lot of black clothes even though it's summer.”
Tumblr media
What does the perfect summer day look like for you?
“A cabin trip combined with a fishing trip! And making music in the evening.
What movie/series did you last watch? And what roll of the dice do you give it?
“I saw The Fall Guy in the movie theater, it was very well made. The entire production. Dice roll 6!” (The roll of the dice is a Norwegian rating system for media, with 1 being the worst and 6 being the best)
Speaking of cool productions: Has the third season of “Rykter” been recorded?
“The third and fourth seasons have actually been recorded!”
Wow, so cool! What can we expect from the new season?
“You can expect a lot of love, broken hearts. Many try lots of new things and find out who they are. Mostly they get to know themselves. There will be a lot of identity stuff!”
Do you have any tips on what someone could do on a rainy day?
“I live in Bergen, so I'm used to that. The fish bite more when it rains. And make music of course.”
Tumblr media
Do you have a favorite restaurant that you just have to visit in the summer?
“Mammas Kjøkken!” (Mom’s Kitchen)
How are you at parties?
“I'm the one who tries to put on 70s rock, haha! I’m really not the biggest party type then.”
What can we expect from you on the music front?
“I try to find my own sound. I developed a new style of pop rock that I think people can vibe with. There will be more international music, a bit of everything.”
Tumblr media
What is this summer's vorspiel (pre-game) anthem?
"Immigrant Song - Led Zeppelin”
What is this summer's nachspiel (afterparty) anthem?
"The End - The Doors”
(Vorspiel and nachspiel are German words that are used in Scandinavian countries to mean pre and after party)
What song is best to dance to?
“Lonely Boy by The Black Keys.”
Tumblr media
What is your darkest party memory?
“I broke a tooth once haha!”
Huh?
“Yeah, it was crazy. I was going to open a bottle. Fortunately, it went fine in the end.”
Luckily! Do you have any good tips for the day after a party?
“In Poland we have a soup that grandmas and moms have often made over the years. It's damn good the next day. And just drink lots of water before and after.”
Tumblr media
What do you spend the most money on in the summer?
“Probably beer!”
Who would you most like to meet this summer, and why?
“The best thing would be to meet my role models.”
And who are they?
“Many of them have died, but of the ones who are alive: Alex Turner and Ozzy Osbourne.”
(ALEX TURNER MENTION !!!)
Have you ever had a summer fling? Or is there anyone who counts as one this year?
“Not this year, but I've had ones in the past. It's best during the summer, that’s really when it’s the nicest.”
Can you send us some random photos from your camera roll this summer?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Thank you so much and have a happy summer, Teo!
“Likewise!”

Karsten, Ludvig (1876-1926) - 1924 Pork (Private Collection) by Milton Sonn Via Flickr: Oil on canvas. Ludvig Karsten was a Norwegian painter. He was a neo-impressionist influenced by Edvard Munch, Henri Matisse and the contemporary French painting. He first participated at the Autumn exhibition in Kristiania in 1901, and had his first separate exhibition in 1904. He is represented at museums in many Scandinavian cities, and with several paintings at the National Gallery of Norway. Karsten was known for his bohemian lifestyle and pending temper. Karsten grew up in a wealthy home in Christiania. He started taking drawing lessons 13 years old. In 1893 he made a study tour to Telemark, where he made landscape sketches and portraits, and also joined painter Halfdan Egedius. After graduating from secondary school in 1895, he travelled to Rome, and later to Firenze and Munich. In 1896 he travelled in Spain, and settled for a while in Madrid. He left Spain in 1898, and was enrolled in the military services at Gardermoen for some months. He then travelled to Munich, where he painted En mann og en kvinne, also called Adam and Eve, which has later been located at the Stenersen Museum. He visited Paris in autumn 1900, where he trained on models. In 1901 he was in Åsgårdstrand, where he painted Two Men and Three Boys, which were both shown at his first appearance at the Autumn exhibition in Kristiania in 1901. Karsten returned to Paris, where he spent several years. He was known for his boozing and temperament. After a fight with the poet Nils Collett Vogt he was temporarily expelled from the circle of Norwegian artists residing in Paris. He visited the museum Louvre, where he paraphrased Ribera's painting of the burial of Christ. The painting was bought by Frits Thaulow, and came to be Karsten's the first important sale. It was resold to the National Gallery in Oslo in 1909, after Thaulow's death. Karsten's first separate exhibition, at Blomqvist in Kristiania in September and October 1904, received mixed critic in the newspapers. In 1905 he visited Edvard Munch at Åsgårdstrand, where Munch made a large portrait of him. After a night of heavy drinking, possibly on Midsummer Eve, it came to quarrel which led to a violent fight between Munch and Karsten. Munch later made an etching of his version of the incident. From 1910 Karsten lived mostly in Copenhagen, where he married in 1913. He bought a house in Skagen in 1920. Karsten is represented at the National Gallery of Norway with several paintings, including Kristi gravleggelse from 1904, Vårkveld i Ula from 1905, Tæring from 1907, Det blå kjøkken (English: The blue Kitchen) from 1913, Det røde kjøkken (English: The red Kitchen) from 1913, and Flukten fra Egypt from 1922. He is represented at the Bergen Museum (with Søsken, and Batseba), at Nationalmuseum in Stockholm (with the painting Den lyse og mørke akt), at Statens Museum for Kunst in Copenhagen (with Golgata from 1923), and at the Stenersen Museum in Oslo (with the paintings Adam og Eva and Gobelin). Karsten was also well known for his paraphrases of works by elder painters, including 16th century artist Jacopo Bassano and 17th century artists Jusepe de Ribera and Rembrandt. His last painting was a portrait of his daughter Alise, when she visited him in Paris in 1926. He died in Paris in 1926, after having fallen down a steep staircase.

Norwegian Bokmål for Total Beginners (January 2024 Crash Course)
28. Around the House
It's day 28 already! Today we're looking at rooms and suchlike around the house:
rom (n) - room
gang (m) - hall, hallway, entrance hall
stue (m/f) - living room
soverom (n) - bedroom
baderom (n) - bathroom*
kjøkken (n) - kitchen
spisestue (m/f) - dining room
trapp (m/f) - staircase, stairs
hage (m) - garden
dør (m/f) - door
vindu (n) - window
vegg (m), mur (m) - wall**
gulv (n) - floor
tak (n) - roof
*Although the word for bathroom is baderom, it's often shortened to 'badet' (which actually means 'the bath') or 'doen' ('the loo')
**en mur = a brick or concrete wall, en vegg = any kind of wall. You'd be more likely to call the outside walls of the house en mur and the inside walls en vegg.
Grammar: På kjøkken
In English, we say we're in a room, but in Norwegian you often use på, which is more commonly translated as at:
Onkel Jonas er på kjøkkenet. (Uncle Jonas is in the kitchen)
Jeg var på badet da bestemor kom. (I was in the bathroom when Grandma came)
With soverommet, stua and gangen, both på and i are okay.
Tanta mi sover i/på stua. (My aunt is sleeping in the living room)
(Why is your brother in my bedroom?)
Bonus: Compound words and grammatical gender
Notice anything about all words that end in 'rom'? That's right; they're all neuter nouns! Most of the time when a word is a compound noun (two words squished together to make a new noun), the word will take the same gender as the last noun in the word. It's not a hard and fast rule, but it can help you guess the gender of a word if you're unsure.
One notable exception at beginner level is et måltid. Tid is a feminine noun, but måltid is neuter. (They're both common gender in Swedish though, which is confusing.)
Hallo på do! / Ha det på badet, din gamle sjokolade!
Yes, this translates to "hello in the loo" and "goodbye in the bathroom, you old chocolate!" They're silly phrases that children like to say because they rhyme. If you run into someone you know in a public bathroom, they might greet you by saying "hallo på do!" and maybe "ha det på badet!" (I'm not sure an adult would add "din gamle sjokolade," but I'm sure it depends on what that person is like!)

Can I just
ellipsis?
look, I've talked here about a few things I dislike about World Anvil, but this kind of creative work really does fit most excellently into the structure that World Anvil offers even on the "free user" level.
And if you get a couple of inventive people together, you can have something like:
Nista System
VNY's notes:
This system is the whole reason why the Nista Run is a possibility at all. It is not a friendly place, though. If you are not in-system at direct, explicit invitation of someone who runs a business (having existed for more than two standard years) in this system, then it's easiest if you blip in and update your navcomputer and go on your way. (Anyone who knows a Jedi also probably thinks this policy might as well be a dare. Hi! How ya doin'? Life treating you well? Sure got a lot of volcanic activity in this system -- any persistent troubles from that? Filters doing okay? Need someone to do a shift of the daily drudgery so you can read a book or something? No charge! I like seeing people get a chance to rebalance themselves. Uh, actually, that was not a tax collector pun, sorry, no. It was a mystic mob pun. The tabard didn't give me away?) First time I ever spent a night in jail for having offered to wait tables on someone else's shift. Not sure it's the first time Ben ever spent a night in jail for having offered to cover the fry cook's shift, though. Bossman seemed to know how this sort of thing goes down.
as a vignette appearing above
Holopedia Galactica entry: The system primary is Nista, a G7 V Yellow Main Sequence star. It is a typical G7, having a radius of {8.01 x 105 km} and a luminosity of {5.95 x 1026 W}. Its sunspot cycles are well-documented and should not catch the prepared traveler unawares. The closest orbiting body is Hvitløk, an iron-core rock planet with a trace atmosphere due to frequent volcanic activity which spews gas and fine particles into the space immediately around the planet. This material precipitates on the dark side of the world, falling back to the surface as metallic snow and renewing the planet surface. Hvitløk is oblong in shape, almost pointed on the northern axis, causing many exciting theories about celestial events in the early days of this system's formation. Next out in orbit is the Forretter asteroid belt, orbiting at a narrow radius and a rapid period for most asteroid belts -- a given body in the Forretter Belt makes one revolution in 281 standard days. Kjøkken is the dubiously designated "terrestrial world" of this system.
(and it goes on like that).
Elsewhere, the Holopedia Galactica offers a general-purpose explanation for the concept of a "hyperdrive".
Holopedia Galactica entry:   A hyperdrive is the mechanism that propels a starship into an alternate dimension known as hyperspace, where it is possible to travel at many times the speed of light within our native reality.
and immediately, one of the best characters from the old video game Crimson Skies pipes up with his own take.
What is "hyperdrive"?
To understand that, you have to understand hyperspace. Got any post-graduate degrees in mathematical learnin'? Me neither.
and then Big John Washington quotes a Mentat scholar:
Imagine an unmoored Gungan hydrostatic bubble, adrift in an ocean. It moves around where oceanic pressure and currents nudge it. It is affected by ripples of other bodies' motion. If it bangs into a more solid, more rigid structure, it may take damage.
I'll be honest with you, o my beloved Tumblrinas: I cannot imagine putting together a galactic encyclopedia full of all our assorted worldbuilding nonsense, such that the result is at all worth reading, with any other tool I've ever tried BUT this World Anvil system.
No offense but I think some of you would be a lot happier writing a fictional atlas or encyclopedia instead of a narrative story
