The yeti crab (Kiwa hirsuta), an unusual, hairy crab with no eyes, was discovered in 2005 on a hydrothermal vent near Easter Island. It represents not only a new species but also a new genus—Kiwa, after the mythological Polynesian goddess of shellfish.

Invertober days 22-28: Linne’s cicada, orange-legged dronefly, giant Asian mantis, Indo-Pacific horseshoe crab, ivory millipede, yeti crab, and wavy-lined emerald moth! All arthropods this time.
Apparently horseshoe crabs aren’t part of a taxonomic class, from what I could find on Wikipedia, so I put “Chelicerata” in the “class slot” instead.
[Image descriptions: Seven digital drawings of invertebrates. Their common names are written above them, and their taxonomic classifications (sans kingdom) are written below.
Image 1: A Linne’s cicada. It is dark green (nearly black) with yellowish legs and lighter green markings on the back. Text below reads: Arthropoda • Insecta • Hemiptera • Cicadidae • Neotibicen linnei
Image 2: An orange-legged dronefly. It is a fly that resembles a bee, except the abdomen and feet are bright orange. Text below reads: Arthropoda • Insecta • Diptera • Syrphidae • Eristales flavipes
Image 3: A giant Asian mantis. It is green with yellow eyes. The back legs / abdomen and middle feet are not shown. Text below: Arthropoda • Insecta • Mantodea • Mantidae • Hierodula membranacea
Image 4: An Indo-Pacific horseshoe crab. Its carapace is grey. Text below: Arthropoda • Chelicerata • Xiphosura • Limulidae • Tachypleus gigas
Image 5: An ivory millipede. It is partly black with a white underbelly, legs, and segment divisions. Text below: Arthropoda • Diplopoda • Spirobolida • Spirobolidae • Chicobolus spinigerus
Image 6: A yeti crab. Its teardrop-shaped body is a pale pinkish colour, and its long front limbs are covered in white fur up to the pincers. Text below: Arthropoda • Malacostraca • Decapoda • Kiwaidae • Kiwa hirsuta
Image 7: A wavy-lined emerald moth. It is light green with two thin, wavy white lines on each wing, roughly forming two semicircles when put together. It also has bushy white antennae and a white “stitch” pattern on the back. Text below: Arthropoda • Insecta • Lepidoptera • Geometridae • Synchlora aerata
End ID.]

WAITTTTT BREAKING DEVELOPMENT WHADDAHELL!!! apparently yeti crabs are part of a family called "squat lobster" which is a specific kind of crustacean that is just flat as fuck with long arms
there's so many different types of Creatures out there that appeal to me the same way those idiots that eat hypothermal vent soup off their hairy-ass arms do oh my god. WAIT speaking of yeti crabs they're so weird they get not only their own genus (Kiwa) but their own fucking family for some reason called Kiwadae.
there's 4 (that we know of) separate offshoots of yeti crabs:
Spiky Arm (Kiwa puravida) ((which doesnt actually eat the hypothermal vent soup, instead they eat out of cold seeps which is nearly the exact opposite.))
Thick Af And 90% Shell Guy (Kiwa Tyleri) ((got its nickname of Hoff Crab because it's hairy arms and shell reminded people of David Hasselhoff's tits))
and finally, Hairy Fuck (Kiwa hirsuta) ((this one doesn't even have real fur, instead it has setae which mimics/resembles fur because it's fucking Weird and it can either be straight blond jagged hair, or fluffy and white hair. depends on where the crab lives))
wow!! completely innocent and interesting asks in my askbox!!! im sure it’s exactly the same for you!!!

Cave Angelfish cutie : ) I call it Totora!
One I finish this I’ll probably put it on Artfight
(Image ID: A painted sketch of an unconventional mermaid. They have a cage over their face. Their skin is pale. They have giant pectoral fins turned into arms and hands, and a smaller set of humanoid pelvic fins that have lost their webbing and are used for emoting. The lower portion of their body is covered in small prolegs, much like a tardigrade or caterpillar. The reference image, an image of a cave angelfish from a worm’s eye view, is on the left. End ID)
Animals used:
Waterfall-Climbing Cavefish / Cave Angelfish (Cryptotora Thamicola)
Tardigrade / Water Bear / Moss Piglet (Tardigrada)
Tripod Fish / Tripod Spiderfish (Bathypterois Grallator)
Yeti Crab (Kiwa Hirsuta)

Crab facts 13:
Scientific name? Kiwa Hirsuta Discovered in 2005 these little hairy nightmares are typically found in the pacific ocean. Only approximately 15 cm long and still able to strike fear into the hearts of my friend, I personally drew this Yeti crab myself. They tend to live near hydrothermal vents.

Scientific name is Kiwa Hirsuta, it is about 15cm’s long it was discovered in 2005 in the South Pacific Ocean. It is known for the quality of silky blond setae which cover its body. Its discoverers named it the Yeti Crab or Yeti Lobster. They are rarely seen and tend to…

I see you have mention other characters could we see how they look like? Oh and here's an ask for the LI created, how would they react with a clingy mc when they are sleeping (like for example the MC always hugs them when they go to sleep)
I do have some of their refs in progress, as well as drawing Kora on paper when I first made them with Phin. I do have other characters in mind that I don't have ideas down for though! I also haven't worked on this project in quite some time as it's not my main project and I'm disliking the style a lot LMAO. But I can show you the refs I have and some information and story that I made for them! ofc with how I feel about this story, a lot will change and progress with the characters.
Here's Kora! They go by They/He pronouns, using they pronouns more! Their species is a decorator crab, so they're very flashy and arrogant. His yandere type is definitely a possessive yandere, they need you by their side 24/7, after all their favorite decoration is you<3 He doesn't get along with Phin at all, and while they don't trust Gil at all, Gil is at least fun to talk to! They're kind of insufferable to you though, they don't know why they like you so much, seeing as you're just another human.
Here's Calico, your captain! They go by they/them pronouns. They're yours and Teddy's childhood friend, they've always been cold yet protective of you two(more so you ofc). It's not super obvious he's a yandere, his tendencies mainly come from being protective of you, he's also quick to get rid of anyone who tries to get close to you by making them walk the plank, the sharks(Gil) will get them. Fun fact, he's not actually missing an eye, they just wear the eyepatch to look official, so basically they're a loser
omg hiiii Teddy! She's really cute to me!! she's like a fail yandere honestly, but you don't suspect her because she's just you sweet childhood friend who's also a huge airhead. She's the boatswain of the crew! She does kill people herself, and she TRIES to hide and clean the bodies but she's really bad at it so yeah you've found a few.
Gil doesn't have a ref so here's his appearance from Phin's ref closer up. He uses he/him pronouns and he's AWFUL! this smug guy, he's constantly teasing you(flirting), and the others(bullying). He does get along with Kora though, at least he likes Kora enough to not bully him, Kora still gets teased though. He's a great white shark.
sea angel, leafy sea dragon, sea bunny, blanket octopus, Kiwa Hirsuta, strawberry squid, flapjack octopus, orca, Crossota Millsae, feather star, pompei worm, Bloody Belly Comb Jelly, Tomopteris Worm, Barreleye Fish, Vampire Squid, Portuguese man o war, flower hat jelly, Whale shark, Manatee, more to be added
