— Our editors analysis and acclaim articles to advice you buy the actuality you need. If you accomplish a acquirement by beat one of our links, we may acquire a babyish allotment of the revenue. However, our picks and opinions are absolute from USA TODAY’s newsroom and any business incentives.
CES is the better technology actualization of the year, and every year Reviewed’s able aggregation of artefact experts absorb canicule allocation through the accoutrements of new releases that admission in Las Vegas. Our goal? To edger out the pretenders and highlight abandoned the things we anticipate will absolutely accomplish a burst in 2019.
We anxiety them our CES Editors’ Best winners, and already afresh we’ve begin some absolutely aberrant products. Though there are affluence of blatant articles authoritative big promises, we focus on the actuality you’re absolutely activity to buy this year.
All 40 of our winners bang a antithesis in our four key criteria: innovation, technology, design, and value. Congratulations to all of our winners and be abiding to analysis aback as we amend this folio with advantage of all of our winners as CES 2019 continues.
LG R9 rollable OLED TV (Photo: TJ Donegan/Reviewed)
A roll-up TV? Will wonders never cease? Okay, while a “roll-up” OLED TV did admission aftermost year, the LG R9—technically, the OLED65R9PUA—is a real, flesh-and-blood product. What appears to be a wide, argent soundbar base, or maybe a adorned TV stand, is the TV. Ability up the R9 and its razor-thin 65-inch awning rises with Kubrick-like gravitas from the base, unrolling into a absolutely attractive display. The absolute amalgamation is one of the best-looking TVs you can buy, and it alluringly stows abroad in a 100-watt apostle base. While LG is absolutely bringing this amazing artefact to bazaar for the additional bisected of 2019, the aggregation has yet to affirm a price. But let’s be real, you can’t acquiesce it.
Samsung’s modular awning technology is as difficult to explain as it is absorbing to behold, but aback we saw it at CES 2019 this year, we absolutely believed it. Samsung delivered a 75-inch 4K microLED TV, alongside a massive 150 inch “wall” of micro LED blocks and smaller, modular “windows.” In reality, it’s all one TV: a super-bright, deeply arranged array of diminutive tiny light-emitting diodes that actualize their own ablaze and color. The pixel-level diodes can be accumulated into ellipsoidal sections that fit calm to accomplish a awning of about any admeasurement or resolution—move over, Lego. While this technology ability be way out of the amount ambit of best people, the technology is the aboriginal big footfall advanced for displays in the aftermost decade.
What happens aback you bear one of the best fancifully conceived and high-performance TVs of the year and booty an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” approach? The Sony A9G OLED TV. Accessible in 65- and 77-inch sizes, the A9G, a baron amidst Sony’s boastfully alleged “Master Series” TVs, acclaim improves aloft the babyish drawbacks of the A9F from aftermost year. It’s thinner, stands straighter (no added camp aptitude back), has bigger Acoustic Apparent apostle architecture (the speakers are in the screen—like we said, fancy), and it’s an ultra-premium OLED TV, so, abundant said. Like best TVs at CES 2019, appraisement hasn’t been confirmed, but with a moniker like Master Series, you apperceive what to expect.
For the aftermost two years, LG’s “C” alternation OLED TVs accept taken our #1 baronial for actuality the best admired performers you can buy, so it makes faculty that the 2019 C9 OLED would booty a CES Editors’ Best accolade this year. While it’s not the fanciest OLED in LG’s 2019 line, that’s what makes the C9 such an accomplished value: You’re accepting the aforementioned absolute atramentous levels, aerial blush peaks, chip AI functionality, and HDR architecture affinity as the pricier models. As LG’s best affordable 2019 OLED, the C9 is the best bet for the best bodies to adore OLED technology’s beauteous account quality.
When it aboriginal accustomed in 2017, TCL’s mega-value 6 Alternation TVs blew reviewers and consumers away. The 2019 6 Alternation aims to abide that trend by alms absorbing 4K/HDR TV performance, a congenital adaptation of the admired Roku acute platform, and added adaptability than ever—the 2019 6 Alternation is accessible in 55-, 65-, and 75-inch sizes this year. While final appraisement accommodation haven’t been arise for the accomplished lineup, the 75-inch 6 Alternation is already accessible for $1,800. The feature-packed 4K/HDR 6 Alternation should be on the anxiety of anyone attractive to get a abundant HDR TV for hundreds beneath than the competition.
Vizio’s M-Series has continued been a amount champion, bringing the fanciest of TV tech to buyers at actual affable prices. The M-Series is outdoing itself in 2019: the abounding ambit of TVs, which alpha as babyish as 43 inches and are accessible in sizes up to 65 inches, accept breakthrough dot technology. This newer technology awfully improves the blush assimilation a TV is able of and has ahead abandoned been accessible in pricy models. Now, you’re accepting breakthrough dots in the consistently smartly priced M-Series, which will abide to bear its staples of 4K resolution, HDR compatibility, full-array bounded dimming, and acute features. Vizio hasn’t accepted appraisement yet, but this is one to accumulate an eye on in 2019.
Portable Bluetooth speakers accept absolute up in contempo years, and there are now hundreds of altered models on the market. The JBL Flip bandage has consistently been amid the top performers in our testing, and the newest Flip looks like the best yet. The architecture is agnate to antecedent iterations with simple controls, USB-C charging, and a waterproof body, but with allegedly bigger array activity with an MSPR of aloof $100.
Though Bose bedeviled the chic for years, the noise-canceling headphone antagonism is heating up. Jabra’s latest access is the wireless Elite 85h, a set of best over-ear headphones that affection 30 hours of array life, AI-driven babble cancellation, affinity with Siri, Alexa, and Google, and a actual adequate fit for aloof $300. They articulate abundant in our abbreviate time with them, and they’re abiding to attempt with the Bose QuietComfort and Sony ANC headphones aback they address this April.
There are a truckload of headphones at CES, but best are allusive to be the biggest, boldest, and best avant-garde headphones on the market. Audio-Technica’s ANC500BT don’t accept such admirable ambitions, but they’re good-sounding wireless over-ear headphones with animate babble abandoning and allegedly 20 hours of array life. Oh, and they’re aloof $100, ballyhoo our notions of what you can apprehend from a brace of affordable over-ear headphones.
Asus ZenBook S (2019) (Photo: TJ Donegan/Reviewed)
KitchenAid Professional HD Stand Mixer – Red – Newegg.com – kitchenaid professional hd attachments | kitchenaid professional hd attachments
There are dozens of laptops that admission every year at CES, but the new Asus ZenBook S is one of the best beauteous I’ve apparent in some time. It’s artlessly beautiful, with a CNC formed aluminum anatomy that is clashing any added laptop I’ve apparent lately. While there are affluence of thin, lightweight, exceptional laptops on the bazaar with aluminum shells, the little things add up actuality to a laptop that absolutely stands out from the crowd.
Dell’s XPS 13 has been bound in at the top of best people’s lists aback it comes to the best Windows laptops, but it’s consistently had an annoying flaw: a webcam that lives beneath the screen, authoritative for awkward video chatting. The new archetypal assuredly fixes this, but retains the edge-to-edge affectation that fabricated the XPS such a admiration in the aboriginal place. It’s a babyish thing, but aback the best Windows laptop assuredly fixes the audacious aperture in its resume, it aloof leaves the antagonism added behind.
If you’re not a apprentice or don’t accept kids, you ability be afraid aloof how accepted Chromebooks are—and how abundant they can do these days. The antecedent Asus Chromebook Flip is one of the best examples of the genre, and the new adaptation is the best yet. It’s responsive, lightweight, has a attenuated bezel display, and actualization an all-metal anatomy that absolutely stands up to the exceptional Windows and Mac laptops from the competition. If you are because a Chromebook in 2019, the Asus Flip C434 should be your aboriginal stop.
The Razer Blade gaming laptops accept been amid the best in the business for some time, but this year’s archetypal takes it to a new level. The new Blade includes Nvidia’s new adaptable RTX chic of GPUs, which affiance near-desktop-level performance. While affluence of gaming laptops are agitation these new GPUs, the Blade does so in a about abbreviate and trim amalgamation that belies aloof how able they absolutely are.
Yes, 17-inch laptops still exist! While our attraction with thinner, lighter, added carriageable laptops has boarded best 17-inchers to the dustbin, the LG Gram is befitting the dream alive. It has a bit of bend in the anatomy and abstracts are abandoned so-so, but aback you get a 17-inch laptop that weighs the aforementioned as 13-inch MacBook Pro with Touchbar, it’s adamantine to complain.
Business laptops assume like they’ve been the aforementioned forever, but Dell is absolutely ballyhoo the cast with the new Latitude 7400. It has the aforementioned exceptional abstracts and architecture as the top-of-the-line Dell XPS 13, but it has a abounding accompaniment of ports, aegis features, and allegedly up to 24 hours of array activity on a distinct charge. In short, it’s calmly the best admirable business laptop anytime created. One attending and your arid atramentous laptop is abiding to see some “accidental” coffee spills anon enough.
PopSockets are some of the best accepted buzz accessories in the world, but the beefy add-ons consistently attending like they were active assimilate the aback of your phone. The new Otter Pop cases fix that. They accord you an OtterBox iPhone case with an chip amplitude for adhering appropriate “PopTops” that can be swapped out as generally as you like. The aftereffect is all the actualization and functionality that makes PopSockets so accepted after the awkward addendum blind off your phone.
If your nightstand is like mine, it’s a alloy of cables active to my phone, charger, and annihilation abroad I allegation answerable for the abutting day. Anker’s admirable Wakey anxiety alarm solves all that. It’s an all-in-one accessory that does quadruple assignment as a Bluetooth speaker, clock, wireless charging pad, and a USB hub for charging assorted gadgets. Is it the coolest apparatus at CES? Probably not, but it’s crazily anatomic and article I could see aloof about anybody authoritative use of.
Ring Aperture View Cam (Photo: Ring)
An abrupt beating at the aperture ability accomplish you feel joy or panic—depending on your personality—but you never allegation to feel ambiguous aback you accept a video doorbell. We admired Ring’s doorbells already, but their new product, the Aperture View Cam, makes it accessible for alike renters to “install” a video doorbell aback it doesn’t crave any modification to the dwelling. Aloof alleviate the canteen from your door’s aperture and install the Aperture View Cam over the hole. Now aloof about anyone can accept the aplomb of alive who’s on the added ancillary of the aperture afore they accessible it.
Security footage is abandoned as acceptable as its video quality. If your camera can’t accord you a bright picture—day or night—of the affaire about your property, it won’t do you abundant acceptable aback you allegation to analyze a face or accomplish out a authorization bowl number. We admired Arlo’s antecedent alfresco aegis camera, but the Arlo Ultra has alike added activity for it, namely 4K Ultra HD resolution and blush night vision. The Ultra additionally packs a spotlight, bifold microphones, and a alluring arise that makes for hassle-free array changes. The Arlo Ultra will be accessible for acquirement at Best Buy and Amazon after this month, priced at $399 for one Arlo Ultra additional the accompanying SmartHub.
With the Echo Atom and the Echo Show, Amazon accepted that Alexa can be alike added advantageous with a awning involved. Lenovo’s P10 Acute Tab follows in those footsteps with what is about an Android book that docks into a Bluetooth apostle and runs a “Show Mode” app. Aback docked, you’ve basically got a big Echo Actualization (without some of Amazon’s video calling features—for now), but you can undock it and use it as a approved Android book or Bluetooth apostle whenever you want.
Having to annoyance yourself out of your comfortable bed in the boilerplate of the night to about-face bottomward the beam fan is air-conditioned unpleasant. Lucky for us, Caseta by Lutron (makers of our admired in-wall acute dimmer) will be absolution a acute fan about-face alleged Fan Acceleration Control. Alike if your fan operates on a cull chain, the Fan Acceleration Control can about-face your fan’s acceleration amid four altered settings and baptize one acceleration as a favorite.
Fan Acceleration Control should go on auction in March and it’s accepted to retail for about $80.
There are already some absolutely abundant acute locks on the bazaar that can automatically lock your doors that accept deadbolts, but what about that ancillary aperture that abandoned has a lock on the knob? The Yale Assure Lever Lock has those single-hole doors covered. The Lever Lock can be acclimated abandoned as a admirable blow awning keypad lock, or with the accession of a Affiliated by August module, it can action as a acute lock. Its acute lock capabilities acquiesce for affiliation with Alexa, Google Assistant, and HomeKit. The Assure Lever Lock is an affected way to accomplish abiding all the doors on your acreage are secure.
Samsung Ancestors Hub (Photo: Samsung)
kitchenaid professional hd – zoofc.org – kitchenaid professional hd attachments | kitchenaid professional hd attachments
When the Samsung Ancestors Hub refrigerator aboriginal debuted in 2015, we were a little added than agnostic about a fridge that affiliated to the internet. However, the accepted bearing of Samsung Ancestors Hub brings a lot of advantageous accoutrement to the kitchen table. It’s Bixby compatible, acceptation you can adjustment an Uber or browse the internet with the ability of your voice. Plus, the new Ancestors Board affection lets you put pictures, notes, and artwork on the fridge for the ancestors to share. In this paperless age, area anybody wants things digitally, it’s a huge plus.
What’s the best way to apple-pie alacrity stains out of a hemp shirt? With Samsung’s new Bixby-enabled washers, you won’t accept to guess. The AI-driven arrangement can accord suggestions on how to amusement stains and what cycles to use. If you’re apprenticed for time, you can ask Bixby to agenda a aeon so that it ends aback you’re free. To advice alike more, the Auto Link affection sends a arresting to your dryer to baddest the best aeon to get your laundry into a wearable accompaniment after fraying the fibers.
For as continued as apprentice vacuums accept been on the market, the little bots accept had a titanic attempt with the amaranthine bandage of accidental actuality on the floor. Whether it was ability cords or dog poop, you’ve consistently had to pre-clean afore your apprentice exhaustion could do its job. Finally, the Deebot Ozmo 960 has a solution: a front-facing camera that’s powered by AIVI (Artificial Intelligence and Visual Interpretation). The 960 scans its surroundings, acquainted accustomed domiciliary objects, intelligently alienated them, and absolution us from the backbreaker of rescuing our apprentice vacuums.
In the accomplished aback you capital to abound herbs central you had two options: windowsill planters or abound lamps. Planters put you at the whim of the sun and abound lamps tend to be animal as sin. That’s area the Miracle-Gro Twelve comes in. The accepted archetypal comes as stackable frames area the bulb goes beneath and the top serves as an end table. To added alloy in with your decor, the abound ablaze is trimodal, so you can set it to attending beneath apparent aback guests arise over. We additionally like the actuality that this archetypal has a set-it-and-forget-it mentality: a two-gallon backlog automatically amnion the plants so you don’t accept to. The antecedent kit will arise with nutrients for a month, pH balancers, and Bluetooth-enabled sensors to acquaint you about baptize needs.
While apprentice vacuums accept fabricated abundant strides in contempo years, apprentice mops accept collapsed a bit by the wayside. That’s why we like the A9s. It’s a apprentice exhaustion with a mop adapter that has a cavernous baptize tank. Typically, a apprentice mop doesn’t accept abundant accumulation to abrade a floor—so the A9s makes up for it in speed, appliance small, accelerated accordance to brightness things clean. While this apprentice exhaustion ability not accept adorned acute features, it gravitates into abundant amount area for abandoned $299.
WLabs Acute Oven (Photo: Whirlpool)
Brands like June and Brava accept fabricated acute countertop alteration ovens (AKA adorned toaster ovens) for a brace of years now, but Whirlpool’s aboriginal attack into the chic with their incubator WLabs aims to bend out via some avant-garde features: algorithms that admit whether aliment is arctic or thawed, aristocratic temperature precision, and an centralized camera that lets you analysis up on your meal, to name a few. This countertop oven is additionally beautifully designed, with a sleek, minimalist, and about microwave-like actualization that’s a auspicious booty on this category. From a behemothic like Whirlpool (and for a amount like $800), this affair has potential.
America’s admired bend mixer aloof got added complicated. At its first-ever CES, KitchenAid alien a acute multitasking apparatus alleged the Cook Processor Connect that can boil, fry, steam, stew, knead, weigh, chop, mince, puree, mix, emulsify, whip, and stir. Yes, that is all. The accessory is acutely KitchenAid’s claiming to the Thermomix, a European multicooker that achieves a agnate cardinal of feats (and goes for the analogously abrupt amount of $1,500). While KitchenAid ability not be creating a new capital apparatus with the Cook Processor Connect, the company’s aerial accomplishment standards accomplish us assured that this accessory will accord the affluence bazaar a run for its money. Plus, it comes in a attractive bonbon angel red color.
At aboriginal glance, the GE Kitchen Hub looks like an over-the-hood ambit with a 27-inch book absorbed to it. However, if you burrow aloof a little deeper, you’ll acquisition a way to accomplish affable added enjoyable. What differentiates the Hub from the boilerplate book is that it has U Connect: a belvedere with a downward-facing camera that can beck what you’re affable with admired ones, or alike an instructor. You can additionally beck Netflix, comedy Spotify, collaborate with added acute devices, and adore our admired feature: a low-powered aperture that prevents adipose smoke from affecting the aboriginal screen.
Withings Move (Photo: Withings)
There is no curtailment of fettle trackers, but there’s article abnormally auspicious about the access that Withings has consistently pursued. The company, which was acquired by Nokia and again purchased aback by its aboriginal co-founder, has managed to architecture trackers that airing a accomplished bandage amid aerial tech and acceptable watch aesthetic.
The new Withings Move advance all the activities that best of its competitors do: walking, running, sleeping, swimming, etc. But the change is its absolutely analog watch face. After a awning to power, the Move’s array lasts an amazing 18 months. Plus, it’s sharp-looking as hell and abandoned $69.95.
Almost every woman has, at some point in her life, been told she’s cutting the amiss bra size. While companies like ThirdLove accept approved to accomplish accolade the appropriate sizes simpler with online quizzes, assembly cast Soma is activity to accomplish abundant greater accurateness with the Innofit, a bra able with sensors that accord an burning account on key abstracts bare to get the absolute fit. The technology was originally developed by Like A Glove to advice women acquisition jeans that fit them beyond brands, and its appliance in bras is an agitative abutting step.
The Soma Innofit cuts out the inaccuracies of acceptable bandage barometer (it can admeasurement breast aggregate in a way bandage can’t) and the consistently awkward bra applicable process, while additionally allegorical women arise the bras that would accouterment their abstracts best. It connects to a proprietary app via Bluetooth, and will anon be accessible to acquirement online for aloof $25 or use in Soma stores.
Procter & Gamble’s startup flat P&G Ventures has launched a bifold skincare-beauty band-aid clashing annihilation we’ve apparent before. While acceptable camouflage applicators and aphotic atom correctors ambition advanced swathes of the face, Opté Attention Skincare combines an LED scanner, camera, minicomputer, and micro-printer in one accessory that’s abundantly precise. If this sounds complicated and expensive, that’s because it is—but the after-effects are stunning, decidedly for a non-surgical, laser-free skincare treatment. Aphotic spots arise to vanish beneath the applicator, but there isn’t a trace of architecture or off appearance on any of the surrounding skin, and the serums assignment to advance bark accent over time. Opté should be on the bazaar by the end of the year, so get accessible to dive into the no-makeup look.
At a CES abounding with acute gym equipment, annihilation was absolutely as simple and able as the KettlebellConnect from JaxJox. What looks like a distinct glassy kettlebell is absolutely a assemblage apartment six altered stackable weights, alignment from 12 to 42 pounds, that can be added and removed at will. The KettlebellConnect is additionally able with sensors that can clue aback and how you assignment out, advice you advance your performance, and accumulate you motivated over time. Oh, and the app is loaded with conditioning videos. If you can additional $350 (about a fifth the amount of a Peloton) for home fitness, accumulate an eye out for this absolution after this year.
25-Qt Professional 2500 Stand Mixer (Aqua Sky) | KitchenAid … – kitchenaid professional hd attachments | kitchenaid professional hd attachments
Smart air affection ecology accessories accept been proliferating recently, with capricious degrees of efficacy. Many can clue temperature, CO2, and VOCs, but the Airthings Wave managed to bend out by abacus radon apprehension to the list. The new Airthings Wave Mini is a smaller, cheaper adaptation of the Airthings Wave Plus, costing abandoned $79. It has three centralized sensors (versus the six sensors in the beyond version), but with the aforementioned set of features. That’s a acceptable amount for accord of mind.
For all the allocution about the air affection in your home, it’s accessible to balloon the actuality that Americans absorb about 290 hours per year in their cars, according to AAA. And that air is far added attenuated than the air in your home.
That’s why BlueAir created the Cabin Air, an in-vehicle air purifier. It straps to the aback of a beanbag (it’s about the aforementioned admeasurement as a headrest, in fact) and plugs into the car’s DC ability outlet. Cheaper in-car ionizers aloof allurement particulates and bore them into your car’s surface. The Cabin Air actively filters out carbon and accomplished particulates, including VOCs and odors. It’s accepted to amount $250-$300 and the filters will accept to be replaced every 3-6 months, but for abundant commuters in abutting cartage areas, the bloom allowances could outweigh the cavity in their wallet.
Garmin’s aboriginal LTE-enabled smartwatch agency that runners can leave their phones at home while adequate music, argument alerts, and GPS. Garmin additionally added some abundant assurance actualization that booty advantage of the new abstracts capabilities. If a agent is activity unsafe, they can advance on the watch button for bristles abnormal and an active (with realtime GPS data) is beatific to their emergency contacts. There’s additionally an automated “incident detection” that sends those aforementioned alerts if an appulse or abatement is detected.
The LTE account will abandoned be accessible through Verizon. Accepted barter can add the watch as a new accessory to their plan, and new barter can actualize accounts aloof for the watch. Garmin and Verizon are still hashing out the final price, but the watch itself is accepted to advertise for $299.
Nanit Breath Wear (Photo: Nanit)
Nanit already makes a reliable and well-received acute babyish monitor, the Nanit Plus, that does all the things you’d apprehend in 2019: a bird’s-eye bend on the crib, two-way audio, and ambient sounds and bendable lighting, as able-bodied as air-conditioned actualization like beddy-bye tracking and a time-lapse video of your baby’s night.
New for 2019, are two simple but able accouterment accessories alleged Breath Wear: a accouter and a band, anniversary with a atramentous and white arrangement on them. The Nanit Additional adviser uses the arrangement on the accouterment to actuate whether your babyish is breathing. It’s absolutely aloof accord of apperception for parents, but it prevents you from accepting to accessible the aperture and check—a absolute make-or-break moment at any nap time.
When the aboriginal Willow acute breast pump debuted two years ago, it garnered a Reviewed CES Editors’ best accolade for assuredly untethering the action of pumping. With a little time on the bazaar to accumulate user feedback, they’re aback with the new and bigger Pump 2.0. The better change is that allotment of the pump is now cellophane so it’s easier to artlessly attending bottomward and accomplish abiding it’s adapted accurately afore you alpha pumping. For $499 you get two pumps and 72 bags.
The Elvie Pump was a abutting runner-up, as it’s lighter, smaller, and has a beyond accommodation than the Willow. Elvie’s better acclaim is its use of a artificial backlog rather than disposable accoutrements to abundance milk, but we begin that at atomic amidst the Reviewed staff, disposable accoutrements are absolutely appealing able-bodied regarded.
Tracking how abundant milk or blueprint your babyish is bubbler is a cogent captivation for parents of infants. If you were to administer some technology to the problem, your aboriginal anticipation ability be a acute bottle. But as any ancestor will acquaint you, babies tend to accept able cast preferences aback it comes to bottles and you may accept to try three or four afore you acquisition success.
We accepted the artlessness of BlueSmart’s approach. Rather than authoritative a acute bottle, they created a sleeve that attaches to the basal of the canteen you already own. The sleeve advance milk consumption, agriculture duration, and angle. It additionally lights up at the basal to acquaint you if the capacity are too hot, too cold, or aloof right.

So let's get this out of the way first: I will not recommend that anyone go to RepairCare or Quick Fix Appliances (who also operate under "Paramount Home Services").  Why?  I had to sue them.
So let's go right to the start of the story.  At the end of February, I had Cupcake Day at work.  It was a great success and I sold out of my cupcakes, but the Kitchenaid mixer that I've had for 9 years finally broke, right as I was making the final batch of icing.  (Could you imagine the stress I would have suffered if it had broke when I was starting to make the cupcakes?  It was a great mixer.  It did everything for me that I asked of it.)
So, at the beginning of March, I took my mixer up to RepairCare.  They took the mixer and wrote down the serial number.  The unit needed a worm screw -- this is a plastic gear that's deliberately designed to break in case the gears get stuck, so that the motor doesn't get burnt out.
When they told me that the worm screw, probably the most-frequently replaced piece, was back-ordered and took 3 weeks for them to get it, I should've realized that "Quick Fix" may not be their best name.
So I get my mixer back in Mid-March, and it looks fine, I take off the tracking sticker and put it away.
Mid-April, I bring the mixer back out from storage and try to use it, and discover... the bowl somehow doesn't fit my mixer...
Tumblr media
What happened?  Apparently I didn't get my mixer back. I got someone else's mixer, and the mixer I got was a "wide arm" mixer.  The mixer I originally had was a "narrow arm" mixer.
I spoke to RepairCare and the first response was "We don't know how this happened.  Since you got a better mixer we suggest that you purchase a wide bowl and accessories, or you can return it to see if we have a smaller mixer".  Since I didn't intend to spend money on the repair only to spend more on replacing the bowl (and the beaters too -- otherwise they won't fit) I had to do some sleuthing to figure out what happened.
I decided to contact Kitchenaid themselves to ask them about this mixer that I had been given.  According to them, the mixer I currently possessed was manufactured in 2010.  Since I got my original mixer for Christmas in 2008, obviously this was not my mixer.
Knowing this, I went back to RepairCare and gave them three options: Find my original mixer, Replace my mixer with a brand-new unit, or purchase the Bowl and Beaters themselves so that I could use the mixer that I currently had as I had no intention in spending more money on a repair.  They refused all three options.
So, a couple of days later I went up to RepairCare with this "wide arm" unit and wanted to find my mixer.  The customer service person I was emailing wasn't around, but I was brought into the repair area, and the person there looked into my file -- and I noted that on my account, they didn't write down my serial number, and while I saw a mixer that looked like mine, because the serial number wasn't recorded I couldn't be certain.  I decided to leave with the "wide arm" (i.e. "wrong") mixer.
I contacted them again the following day and told them that they've somehow lost my mixer and I want a brand-new mixer to compensate.  Again, they refused but they offered another "narrow bowl" mixer and a full refund on the repair work. So I go back up again and I exchange the "wide arm" mixer with a "narrow arm" mixer, but I notice that the planetary orbit (where the mixer spins) is a different colour than the mixer body, but they assure me that the unit works and was a more powerful unit as the trim read that it was a "550 HD" which had 575 Watts of power.  So imagine my surprise when I brought it home and immediately notice that the accessory hub is missing.  (That's the little nub at the front of the unit that allows you to attach pasta makers and meat grinders and whatnot.)  So, aside from them not giving me my mixer, they've given me a mixer that still required more repairs.  I went to Kitchenaid with this info and discovered that the serial number didn't match the trim and the unit was a 475 Watt unit, so this unit was cobbled together with random parts!  I had a Frankenstein's Monster of Mixers!

So at this point I'm absolutely fuming.  I call RepairCare the following day and tell them that I need to escalate this to their Manager.  Not surprisingly, they tell me that the owner was out of the country and they didn't know when they would return.  So that was bullshit.
At that point, I decided that I had enough with this customer service rep and decided to go higher and more professional.  I began investigating the process for Small Claims Court.  The first step they suggest is to write a letter outlining the reasoning.  I wrote up a letter and mailed it to them, stating that they had lost my mixer and I was seeking the difference (around $270, after removing the $150 repair that was refunded).  I also warned them that I would be taking it to Small Claims Court if they did not respond favourably.  They didn't respond to this letter.
I then started calling them once a week to see what their stance was.  I managed to get ahold of a Customer Service Manager, who had not heard about this situation (despite working with the customer service rep that I was emailing before!) and got back to me promptly with an offer -- but only for $50.  As this was not what I asked for, I rejected it.  I called a week later, they offered $150.  Still not enough; and furthermore this manager claimed that they never used spare parts to build other mixers -- despite the physical evidence that I had a mixer with a different coloured planetary orbit (and I confirmed with Kitchenaid that they never offer units with different coloured parts), and their final offer at that time was that I could take the $150 and I wouldn't need to return the other mixer.  (They even had the nerve to suggest that I could purchase a brand-new Kitchenaid mixer for the total $300.  Have you seen the prices for them? My asking price of $420 is the minimum cost that I could find anywhere!)
So, since they never responded with the $270 offer, I went to court.  Small Claims Court is a little bit of logistics but thankfully they have a lot of this stuff online.  I gathered up all my details (many of which I'm retelling here), gathered photos, and put together the claim, which I actually had to get served and all that.  It's nerve-wracking to make sure that your t's are crossed and your i's are dotted (there was even a time that I had to make sure I put a period after the "Inc" in the business name to ensure that I had the right name).  And then I waited, as they are given 3 weeks to respond before the company would be found in Default (i.e guilty).
Eighteen days in, three days before they were to be found in Default, they sent me an e-mail.  They offered the $270 and wanted to send it via e-Transfer.  I said "yes" but they suddenly asked for the 2 mixers back.  Since I returned the "wrong" mixer and only had one, I pointed out to them that I only had one mixer, but I also stated to them that the mixer being returned was not part of the deal, as they had told me that they didn't need the mixer returned. And then they stopped talking to me.
So I found them in Default on the Friday, then had the Court Order made out which included the Court Fees (so now it was $420) a week and a half later. They never sent any e-mails or phone calls after they stopped talking to me, but they started talking to me real quick when I handed them the Court Order, and claimed they had already mailed out a cheque for the $270 and would not pay the Court Costs, but at this point it was 13 days after they stopped talking to me altogether, so I told them, straight-up, that the Court Order now applies and even if you were to pay me the $270, the Court Order would still be outstanding for the remaining money, plus if they had told me that they were mailing out a cheque, I might have waited.  They stopped talking to me again when I confronted them with all their confusing and conflicting facts.
One week later, I innocently asked if they tracked the cheque as it hasn't arrived.  The owner steps in and tells me that the cheque was not tracked, but also told me not to try to cash it as it was also cancelled.  What kind of shady practices are they doing here?  They then had the nerve to suggest that they would file a motion with the court!  (I looked into what they could possibly file with the court -- the only option they had was to file an explanation as to why they didn't respond, which would only be a stalling tactic.)
So, I sent one final email.  I asked them why the cheque was cancelled.  I rolled out the entire thing all over again.  I noted to them that they did not respect the Rules of the Court (on top of not respecting a customer) which is why they went into Default, and this is why this is happening.  I then, as I have with all my e-mails, noted that I already knew the costs involved in the following steps and it would require me to garnish their bank account, and those court costs would be added on as well, which means they would have to pay me $600 if they didn't pay me by a specific date.  All this money is a zero-sum game, but I didn't really care about me making money at this point -- they could wait and I would heap more and more of the court fees on their business.
That cheque never arrived.  The e-Transfer did, though -- on 5pm, the night before I planned to go to the Small Court Office, for the $420, so I didn't need to move any further than that.

So, to summarize, I would never go to RepairCare, Quick Fix Appliances, or Paramount Home Services (their parent company) for my repair services ever again, and I had to sue them to get them to pay up to replace my mixer.  They appear to be disorganized, and I'm honestly shocked that something like this could even happen in the first place.  And they never owned up to losing my mixer -- it's like they felt like I should've been happy to get something from them, and that they seemed to think I wouldn't actually sue them, like they thought I was an idle threat.
I'm a pretty chill guy most of the time, but don't ever fuck with my mixer.
