To call oneself Minstrel in a place such as Elsewhere is folly, but it’s the sort of folly that he prefers. Prone to flights of fancy and stricken with a terrible sense of wanderlust, Minstrel fancies himself something of a bard. He came here as a criminal law major, but now he’s a music major. He dedicates a lot of his songs to a ‘forgetful’ patron fae and is quick to smile and laugh.It is a lie, a pretty lie. One day he hopes to leave in a way that counts.

One day he hopes to leave in a way that counts.

The waxing crescent has a simple meaning. It is the line of silver light among the darkness. It is hope. The moon cards are interesting for how they relate to the other cards in a spread. They don't so much refer to the conditions of a the reader or the target, their effect is much more widespread. Drawing the waxing crescent means an atmosphere of general hopefulness. Things are just barely starting to look up, the wheel is turning your way, but the night is still dark and you still have a ways to go until things turn your way for good.

The book of secrets is a test of cleverness, of perception. All the answers are right there on the page, if you have the skill to unravel them.

The waxing gibbous. It begins! The time is right! It's your turn now. This is no guarantee of success, just that now you get to go on the attack. The hunt begins. The Waxing Gibbous does not imply an inversion. It would be a mistake to compare it to the Hanged Man. Yes the card does represent a changing of fortunes but it is less about situations being reversed, and more about finally being prepared for some large undertaking. More so, the Waxing Gibbous implies that this is only the beginning of something. The road ahead may be filled with difficult choices but they will be your choices. You have the helm now, and are not just reacting to the whims of some greater force.

A pair of moons and the book of secrets. Quite the rare hand. To me this hand is an opportunity seized during a dark and foreboding time that completely turns the tide, a tiny spark of light twisted by a feat of cleverness into a complete reversal of fortunes. Keep your eyes peeled, your mind sharp, and the pressure on.

Meridian had not had an easy life. She was only eight when she had her first encounter with fae, and she was only eight for many years after. When a cat told her she should leave, she left. When Meridian stepped out of the fairy mound, she was nearly twenty, with a twisted view of the world and a hunger that nothing really satiated. Where else, then, would she go but Elsewhere University?

Meridian stepped onto those grounds as Mew, and years after she stepped out of Brigadoon hall with a Protector and began classes. Her first year she was alone, untrusting. Things had changed in her time with the Good Neighbors. Plus, she had learned from them that she was Nothing, but these people were less than that. Laughing and partying as if the Abyss was not moments away from swallowing them all, it was pitiful. So, Mew had no problems, no qualms, about taking from them. Taking things from fae so very inferior to her ‘Mothers’ and ‘siblings.’

When Mew made her first friends, they accepted her completely, embracing her and never expecting her to be anything more than herself. As she grew closer to them in spite of herself, they saw the cracks in her rambunctious façade. They refused to accept the self destructive mindset, and set themselves to making her a better person, and for a while it worked.

One day Mew woke up with cat ears, and the name became too close to a Name. Mew became Meridian, and Meridian found herself slipping into old habits, spending weeks away from the Cait’s Dorm in order to pick fights or steal or revel. All her efforts seemed undone.

And now someone’s dragged her Deep and trapped her away for Too Long, but maybe this is what she needs to heed her friends. Maybe… or maybe this is where Meridian dies, and Oceana is born.
