i’m gonna use tumblr as a source to dump my opinions about music on here ok? ok

a couple years ago there was a song by The Garden trending on tiktok, Call This # Now, and it pretty quickly threw itself into my music rotation. I didn’t touch The Garden much again after that, minus somehow hearing AmPm Truck and i can’t exactly remember why. but i remember liking both songs so much that i tried to listen to some of their other music

i tried first listening to their top songs on apple music, and then listening to Kiss My Super Bowl Ring in bits and pieces and i didn’t really like it! which really sucked, because i would then start to see a shit ton of videos of their shows and noting how fun they looked. sad

but that was a year ago! so i tried listening to the album again today and, for some reason, now i’m really enjoying some of it. and as i’m writing this i think i’m realizing why

this has happened a few times with other artists that i now love; when i first listened to Spirit Phone by Lemon Demon, i could not stand it lmao. now i own that shit on vinyl, and other Lemon Demon records, so i think that speaks for itself. i gave it another go when i was in a different and most likely better environment, and i enjoyed it a lot more than i remembered. a similar thing happened to me with Car Seat Headrest earlier this year, i was dealing with some summer stress when i listened to Twin Fantasy for the first time and also was really taken aback by beach life in death. i gave it another listen later in the summer when i was visiting some long distance friends and now it’s probably one of my favorite albums of all time

the first time i tried listening to Kiss My Super Bowl Ring, i was on my way to a funeral. i think i can understand why i didn’t vibe with it at first! The Garden’s music can be extremely jarring, and to listen to them on the way to one of the worst kind of events? wrong time wrong place. me listening to KMSBR alone in my room with my headphones one? right time right place

moral of the story: wait for the right moment before listening to new music, don’t just try and fit it into an ill fit schedule because of course it’s going to sound bad. because it won’t be the priority in the moment

now if you’ll excuse me, i’m going to listen to The Garden’s entire discography and figure out if they’re going on tour any time soon
