Baby Daddy

Camie and Bakugou dated for a bit in high school but quickly realized it wasn't going to work and broke it off mutually. They stayed friends afterwards, no biggie. Several years later, Camie shows up at Bakugou's doorstep because she's pregnant and the dad didn't want anything to do with it. She wants to keep the baby but she's freaking out and needs someone more levelheaded than she is to talk to. Bakugou, who actually really loves kids, tells her he's gonna help her out the whole way through. He agrees not to go murder the asshole that would bail on her but he's pissed so he is just going to channel that energy into being the best fucking uncle that kid'll ever have.

Meanwhile, Kirishima is finally working up the nerve to confess his many years long crush on Bakugou. He tells himself he's finally going to do it. Bakugou hasn't really dated anyone in a long time, they're both established in their careers, they spend all their time together already, and then he gets a call from Bakugou.

"I need to tell you something but you have to keep it to yourself. It's really important that this doesn't get around."

Kirishima smiles and says, "Yeah, sure. Anything for you."

And then Bakugou tells him that Camie is at his apartment and she's pregnant. Kirishima drops his phone in a panic, heart racing. He knew Camie and Bakugou were still close and that he never really dated anyone after her. He just assumed they were just friends. Bakugou said the breakup was mutual. But was it really? had bakugou lied about it to save face and the reason he hadn't dated anyone up to this point was because he still had feelings for her? But then if they were back together, why wouldn't Bakugou have told him? Kirishima scrambles to pick up the phone but he can't think straight, so he doesn't hear anything else Bakugou is saying. "I'm sorry. I gotta go."

"What? Kirishi-"

He hangs up the phone. Kirishima has a meltdown thinking he waited too long and missed his chance.

Bakugou can't get ahold of him for awhile after that. He's pissed, but he pushes it aside because he promised to help Camie and he still has hero work to do. So he does the things her boyfriend should have. He takes her to the doctor, helps her pick out baby stuff, makes sure she's eating the proper meals a pregnant woman needs.

At one point Camie slips going down the stairs and Bakugou calls Todoroki. He tells him to bring his brother over because they need a doctor and he's not taking Camie to the ER where there's a bunch of nosy fuckers. Natsuo looks her over, says she's okay but if anything starts to hurt or feel off to give him a call. Bakugou tells Camie to move in with him until the baby comes. His place is bigger and this way he can keep an eye on her better. She's annoyed but agrees. Meanwhile, Bakugou still can't get ahold of Kirishima.

When Kirishima finally answers the phone he laughs awkwardly and makes an excuse about work being busy. Bakugou tells him that Camie's moving in and asks if he can help move stuff. Kirishima says he can't because he's busy that day (a lie).

Eventually, they're spotted baby shopping. Photos of them buying a crib and looking at baby clothes are plastered all over the internet. Bakugou never checks skeezy news sites, but Camie googles herself daily. The headlines are already twisted:

"IllusoMight having a baby?" "Pro Hero Dynamight and Pro Hero IllusoCamie spotted baby shopping!" "...sources say Dynamight and IllusoCamie dated in high school. It would seem their breakup wasn't as permanent as people thought!"

Camie yells for Bakugou from the other room. "Hey babe, I think you should look at this." Before he can even see what she's yelling about, his phone is ringing. Denki's name is on the screen when Bakugou answers.

"You're having a baby?!"

"What the fuck are you on about, sparks for brains?"

"It's all over the news. Pictures of you and Utsushimi baby shopping." Bakugou curses and rushes to the other room. Camie's holding her phone up with the screen facing him. "Why didn't you tell us you two were back together?"

"We're not," Bakugou growls. "I'm just helping her out because some asshole knocked her up and bailed."

"Were you the asshole?"

"Shut up." Bakugou hangs up the phone and collapses onto the sofa next to her.

Camie makes a joke about how the photos were pretty good candid shots. He glares at her and she sighs, holding her arms out for him to cuddle. Bakugou rests his head on her stomach and feels the baby kicking his face. He's so mad because fuck those shitty paparazzi, and the one person he wants to talk to the most isn't answering the phone.

"Busy. I know." Bakugou interrupts. His voice cracks.

"Hey. Hey, what's wrong?"

Bakugou sighs. "Can you come over? Please?"

There's a long pause before Kirishima finally answers with an, "Okay. I'll be there in twenty."

When Kirishima finally shows up he looks around the apartment before asking, "Where's Utsushimi?"

Bakugou waves him inside the apartment. "In her room, resting."

"Her room?"

Bakugou narrows his gaze at him. "Yeah, her room."

Kirishima has a confused look on his face, but shakes his head, deciding not to say whatever it is that was on his mind. "So, what's going on?"

Bakugou sits on the armrest of his sofa and sighs in defeat. "It's this whole pregnancy thing. I guess word started to spread."

"Oh," says Kirishima. "I know you wanted to keep a secret. I'm sure it's hard having a baby as a pro hero when you're not married."

"Mm. Camie seems more chill about it than expected. I think it helps that everyone online is saying how she's glowing. As if she couldn't make herself glow begin with." He rolls his eyes.

Kirishima nods slowly. "What about you? A baby's a huge change. That's gotta be hard."

"S'not like it's really my responsibility."

Kirishima actually looks mad about that for some reason. "Of course it's your responsibility! How could you say something so flippant when you're about to be a dad?"

"What?"

"You're having a baby but you're saying it's not your responsibility," explains Kirishima.

"I'm not having a fucking baby."

"What?" This time it was Kirishima's turn to be confused.

"Did you not hear anything I said to you on the phone before?"

"Um..." Kirishima's cheeks flushed red and he rubbed the back of his neck.

"I told you some asshole knocked her up and ditched. I'm just helping her out."

Kirishima's eyes grow rounder than Bakugou had ever seen them before. "So... You're not having a baby?"

"No."

"And you're not back together with Utsushimi?"

"No."

"And you're not still in love with her?"

"Hell. Fucking. No."

And then Kirishima is so visibly relieved that without thinking he reaches for Bakugou and pulls him into a kiss, startling him, but he doesn't fight it. They straighten out their feelings after that, and of course because Camie is Camie, she had the whole thing recording in a livestream to clear up any and all internet confusion on whether or not Dynamight was her baby daddy.

Ukraine is hitting Russia where it hurts – in its fossil fuel industry.

Ukrainian drones have attacked several oil refineries in Russia, hundreds of kilometres from the frontline in regions including Ryazan, Nizhny Novgorod and Leningrad. The continuing attacks are part of a strategy to hurt Russia’s economy. The Ryazan oil refinery, Rosneft’s biggest refinery, was set ablaze, a regional governor said on Wednesday. It shut down two damaged primary oil refining units. Rosneft did not comment. The plant handles about 5.8% of Russia’s total refined crude, according to industry sources. A fire broke out at Norsi, Russia’s fourth-largest refinery, after a Ukrainian drone attack, Russian officials said on Tuesday. Its main crude distillation unit was damaged, which means that at least half of the refinery’s production is halted, according to industry sources. Norsi handles nearly 6% of Russia’s total refined crude. Before the latest drone attack, one of its two catalytic crackers had already been put out of action. The governor of the Leningrad region, Alexander Drozdenko, said a Ukrainian drone targeted the Kirishi refinery. It is one of the top two refineries in Russia, handling 6.4% of Russia’s capacity, according to industry sources. And the Novoshakhtinsk export oil refinery in Russia’s southern Rostov region had to suspend operations on Wednesday after a drone attack.

Russia's economy is about the same size as that of Italy which has maybe 40% as many people as Russia. And much of that economy is centered on fossil fuels. Putin and his oligarch buddies skim off graft to enrich themselves; those superyachts, palaces, and prime real estate properties abroad are all ultimately paid for by countries which import Russian oil and gas. Meanwhile, Russians outside the big cities live in poverty; imagine a 1920s standard of living but with censored internet and state TV.

Ukraine is doing the climate a big favor by indirectly encouraging importers of Russian fossil fuels to look for cleaner replacements.

EU agrees to €5 billion boost in Ukraine military aid

European Union member states agreed Wednesday to provide Ukraine with an additional  €5 billion ($5.5 billion) in military aid. Belgium, which holds the EU's rotating presidency, said ambassadors from the bloc's 27 nations had agreed "in principle" on the plan to support arms supplies to Kyiv in 2024.  The contribution of €5 billion will go on EU-managed fund called the European Peace Facility. The fund operates as a giant cashback scheme, giving EU members refunds for sending munitions to other countries. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba called it a "powerful and timely demonstration of European unity."

White House announces $300 million military aid package for Ukraine

With new aid for Ukraine stalled in Congress since December, the White House on Tuesday announced it had cobbled together another $300 million in military assistance to use as a stopgap measure. "The package includes munitions and rounds to help Ukraine hold the line against Russia's brutal attacks for the next couple of weeks,” President Joe Biden said in a meeting with Polish President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Donald Tusk at the White House, adding, "we must act before it literally is too late.” National security adviser Jake Sullivan detailed the package at White House briefing, saying that the aid comes as Ukraine "does not have enough ammunition to fire back." "So today, on behalf of President Biden, I'm announcing an emergency package of security assistance of $300 million worth of weapons and equipment to address some of Ukraine's pressing needs," Sullivan said.

French National Assembly approves bilateral security agreement with Ukraine

The 10-year security pact with Ukraine includes commitments by Paris to deliver more arms, train soldiers and send up to 3 billion euros ($3.2 billion) in military aid to Ukraine in 2024. Macron has also adopted a tougher stance towards Russia, urging Ukraine's allies to urgently do more. He also did not rule out the presence of Western troops in Ukraine which has created a backlash among some Ukrainian officials had told Reuters they were worried that a vote not overwhelmingly in favour of Kyiv would be negative symbolically and could hurt President Emmanuel Macron's efforts to ramp up his country's support in the coming months.

AOC says Democrats must take advantage of ‘razor-thin’ House margin after Ken Buck steps down

In an unexpected Tuesday evening announcement, Mr Buck — a Republican from Colorado — said he would leave Congress next Friday, rather than retiring at the end of his term as originally planned. Afterwards, Republicans will hold just 218 seats out of 435 in the House, leaving Democrats one step closer to clinching the majority. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democrat from New York and member of the progressive Squad, told The Independent her party must take advantage of Mr Buck’s early departure. Ms Ocasio-Cortez said Democrats “have to make sure that that we see that do the best we can to navigate how razor-thin the situation is.”

That last item is rather interesting. Ken Buck, a never-Trump Republican, is stepping down early. His seat in a deep red district will be vacant until late June when a special election is likely to take place. His departure will leave the House GOP (for now) with 218 seats – the bare minimum for a majority. This will make it easier for Democrats to persuade several remaining anti-Putin Republicans to defy Speaker "MAGA Mike" Johnson's wishes and support President Biden's aid package for Ukraine.

Nikolai Chiryatev

"Nikolai was born on 5 March, 1985, in Yugorsk, Siberia. He graduated from the Yugorsk Institute of Fine Arts in 2005 and from 2005 to 2011 he attended the graphic faculty of the Ilya Repin St. Petersburg State Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture.

During his study and after graduation he actively participated in various competitions and contests, as well as in group and solo exhibitions in Russia and abroad.

Today Nikolai Chiryatev`s artworks are exhibited in The Russian Academy of Arts Museum, The Kirishi Museum of History and Local Lore and A.S. Pushkin Museum-reserve. They`ve also been included into numerous private collections in Russia, the USA, China, South Korea, Poland, Italy and CIS countries."

Whilst looking in my old files I found the paintings of Nikolai Chiryatev. Their paintings feel like the cold touch of smooth concrete and smoky winter seasoning the air. The orange lit skies, painted by old sodium lamps bring me back to those nights of watching the cieling wall reflect the same orange glow from outside.

I always imagine this kinda dynamic with my Hazbin Hotel OC Naichi trying to comfort Alastor, she's 100% the type of person to fumble so badly but in such a hilarious way that she somehow succeeds, and I imagine my very first OC i ever made, Sayuka, would be like that too when comforting her friends Mono, Kirishi, and Midashite- while those three have their own different flaws and ways of doing it. Mono kinda just chills out next to them and shows them memes until they feel better since she's really bad with words, Kirishi always gives them stuff and sings and does literally everything possible to try and help so it feels a little smothering but it's so sweet, and Midashite is mute so she'd either communicate through writing and drawing and be fairly good at it or she'd just become a living plushie for the time being and let the person snuggle her until they feel better and it's just AUUUUGGGHH I've thought SO MUCH about how it'd go comforting and being comforted by all my characters and it makes me SO HAPPY thinking about it. And thinking about who'd be best at comforting who and in what situations and thinking up these whole elaborate scenarios it's just EEEEEEE

it's like YEEEESSS the flaws and different ways to do it and how some methods click perfectly with one person but would make someone else feel worse are EXACTLY what make it so fun to think about, ESPECIALLY when you're putting two ultra-mega-stubborn endearing assholes up against each other with one trying to comfort the other while they actively try to not be comforted, it's 100% a thing that would happen all the time with Sayuka and Mono or Naichi and Alastor and it's just AAAAA and then there's Kirishi and Midashite who are both absolute emotion-sponge sweethearts and they'd probably end up both crying together and then both comforting each other and AAAAA it'd be SO CUUUUUTEEEEE, and then there's my OC Jolly who's just plain terrible at comforting people and nine times outta ten makes them feel worse, but then very rarely with certain people she has sort of these more clear moments and she actually acts genuinely so sweet even though she's usually an insensitive asshole and i LOVE IT, and we've also got the licensed therapist, Willow, who's pretty damn good at it, although her most obvious strength is being an adorable little floofer that can literally cheer anyone up just by existing, she's amazing at helping people going through long-term things and trying to heal and move past trauma. Meanwhile, her flaws mostly come from doing that- often having emotional burnout and a mountain of other mental issues that I plan to give her an entire character arc about. She's supposed to be a wholesome character, but also very true to life, and i LOVE writing characters like that.

my favorite kind of hurt/comfort dynamic is when the person who is doing the comforting isn't perfect at it. maybe they can only act in accordance to the context they have and miss the mark sometimes, maybe they don't really know what to say, maybe they flub their words or their own emotions break through their surface and they can't perform to textbook-level perfection. maybe, even, the act of comforting the other person actually is an inconvenience on them. but they still do it anyway, they try so hard, they struggle in their own way, and they put it all on the line and try their best no matter the hurdles because they love the person so much, and that love is shown through every misstep and correction and fumble

バチカンのマスコットキャラ「ルーチェ」たんの誕生は21世紀のキリスト教世界において画期的な出来事だと思う。

要点は2つある。ひとつは、それがキリスト教の図像学（イコノロジー）においてまったく現代的だということ。これまでキリスト教を表す図像は千年以上前に生まれたものしかなかった。ルーチェたんの誕生で、21世紀のクリスチャンは自分たちの文化の真っただ中でキリスト教を表現する「アイコン」を手に入れることができた。

もうひとつは、ルーチェたんが全身で表しているものが「キリスト教信仰はいいことばかりでは決してない」という、クリスチャンの心の奥底にある実感そのものだということ。雨合羽と泥だらけの長靴は巡礼の道のりが当たり前のように荒天とともにあることを表している。これまでキリスト教の図像学は「礼拝・崇敬の対象」しか描いてこなかった。そこには信仰生活に内在する「等身大の苦しみ」を表現する余地はなかった。

ぼくはかつて「キリシたん」というゆるキャラ（？）を描いた経験があるが、その経験からしてルーチェたんに驚嘆するのは、「信仰の苦難」を「涙を描かずに表現する」方法があるのだと証明したことである。笑顔の女の子に雨合羽と長靴を着せることで「信仰の苦難」を表現できるのだ。

ぼくは思うのだが、このデザインには「信仰の苦難」を耐え抜いた複数の聖職者が関わっていると思う。デザイナーひとりのアイデアでこの図像にはたどり着けないだろう。ルーチェたんは決して「記号の寄せ集め」ではない。信仰あるいは教会の現実と本質を完全に表現する、真のキリスト教的「アイコン」である。

ぼくはそう思うのだ。だからルーチェたんはおそらく今後、狂信的な改革派信徒のようなアンチカトリックの人を除いて、新教旧教問わずあらゆるクリスチャンの間に相応に市民権を獲得していくだろう。ルーチェたんの誕生を取り上げた最初期のツイートに「めちゃくちゃ捗りそうですね」とあって、ぼくはピンと来なかったのだが、一週間と経たずに二次創作が爆発的に生まれた現状を見て、ああこういうのを「めちゃくちゃ捗る」と言うのか、と思う。

Luce

The creation of the Vatican mascot character “Luce” is a landmark event in the Christian world of the 21st century.

There are two main points. First, it is completely modern in Christian iconology. Until now, the only iconography that has represented Christianity was created more than a thousand years ago. With the creation of Luce-tan, 21st century Christians now have an “icon” that represents Christianity in the midst of their own culture.

Another thing is that what Luce-tan represents with her whole body is the very realization deep in the hearts of Christians that “the Christian faith is never all good.” The raincoat and muddy boots represent the fact that the pilgrim's journey is with stormy weather as a matter of course. Until now, Christian iconography has depicted only “objects of worship and adoration.” There was no room for the expression of “life-size suffering” inherent in the life of faith.

I once had the experience of drawing a loose character (?) called “Kirishi-tan.” What amazes me about Luce-tan is that it proves that there is a way to express the “hardships of faith” without tears. By putting on a raincoat and boots on a smiling girl, she is able to express the “hardship of faith.”

I think that several clergymen who have endured the “hardships of faith” were involved in this design. I don't think that the designer alone could have come up with this image. Luce-tan is not a “collection of symbols.” It is a true Christian “icon” that fully expresses the reality and essence of faith and the church.

I think so. Therefore, Luce-tan will probably gain citizenship among all Christians, old and new, except for anti-Catholics such as fanatical Reformed believers. In the early tweets about the birth of Luce-tan, there was a tweet that said, “It looks like a lot of progress is going to be made,” which didn't really hit me, but seeing the explosion of secondary creations in less than a week, I think this is what the tweet means by “a lot of progress.”
