the term "fictional other" isn't one i use for kirby. i will reblog posts including it due to accessibility + for the fuck of it, but she is very real to me and more of a favourite person than a character. they are my wife/husband/spouse.

Thurs Apr 30 2020 [09:38 PM] Wack'd: Firefrost explains that the Ebon Seeker will not listen to reason, having lost his mind, and she needs the Four to find some way to convince him his fate is not inevitable. [09:40 PM] Wack'd: But first: time for backstory! [09:42 PM] Wack'd: Basically: these two started as aliens from a faroff world who, searching for sentient life, fell in a black hole. The one who became Firefrost listened to the creatures there, and the one who became Ebon rejected them and went mad in the process. [09:43 PM] Wack'd: Also they started out looking like this so clearly something else happened.

[09:44 PM] Wack'd: Anyway with backstory over the Four are returned to Earth to, uh, do a thing. I guess. [09:45 PM] Wack'd: Okay so apparently there's a black hole that's the "womb of the universe" and if they don't shove the Ebon Seeker back in, there's gonna be another Big Bang? Sure [09:47 PM] Umbramatic: universe unbirthing [09:48 PM] Wack'd: Reed, in order to prove to the Ebon Seeker Earth isn't trying to kill him, is gonna use the Negative Zone to restore his fill of negative energy. [09:48 PM] Umbramatic: slurp [09:49 PM] Wack'd: So Reed and Sue take care of  that while Johnny and Ben try and stop more civilians from getting hurt in the meantime [09:50 PM] Wack'd: "My place is with you. If you're dying, then by god we'll orphan Franklin completely!"

Reed teleports the Ebon Seeker and like five blocks of Manhattan safely into the Negative Zone, Ebon Seeker is repowered, and Fireflame talks him down and takes him home. [09:55 PM] Wack'd: And Reed speculates that maybe, just maybe, somehow the thing they found that lured them into the black hole all those eons in the future was Voyager. Sure. I think Moench was just like "this story doesn't have enough SCIENCE. Or enough pages. Let's spend two pages explaining Voyager." [09:56 PM] Wack'd: So that was. A story. I guess. I liked the first issue where it was all weird cosmic stuff but it gets real bogged down in exposition in the back half. Everyone and their mom wants to compare things to Lee/Kirby. [10:04 PM] Wack'd: One person has decided not every issue needs a fight scene! Good on Steve Gauronski [10:04 PM] Wack'd: He specifically cites the then-current Avengers run as a compelling argument for making Four less fight-centric, which should interest @Bocaj [10:05 PM] Wack'd: Another writer is, uh. [10:05 PM] Wack'd: You know, the "Johnny goes to college where he becomes part of a hypnosis conspiracy run by the Monocle" storyline was such a dud but I went back and checked and, yep, we left that one on a cliffhanger with the Monocle's bosses having abducted Medusa! [10:10 PM] maxwellelvis: At least one of the mecha would have had to have been functional for that to be the case. That was more like a postscript.
