As my life gets better and better, I'm not needing to use the kira falls apart tag as much. It used to be my default tag for any personal stuff I needed to post, but now I'm having a lot of positive experiences. I'm trying to think of another tag that I can use for day to day or good things in my life. Not really sure what to go with. I was thinking of kirakintsugi or something like that to indicate that I am mending the broken pieces of my life now rather than just falling apart. Just thinking out loud.

Technique Research - “Kintsugi”

Kintsugi (“golden joinery”) is a Japanese technique that involves repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer or resin that is mixed with powdered gold. Once completed, seams of gold glint in the cracks of ceramics wares, giving an unique appearance to each piece.

This method celebrates each artifact's history by emphasizing its fractures and breaks instead of hiding them. Which makes the repaired piece even more beautiful than the original, giving it a new look and a second life.

While doing some research, I came across the work of a few artists that use either the traditional kintsugi process or modern versions of it, among them, I found two artists whose work immediately stood out to me:

Kira Kintsugi (Dallas, TX) – This artist creates a unique twist on the kintsugi idea by repairing ceramic pieces with clear resin and then placing a light inside so that the repairs shine with light.

Glen Martin Taylor – This artist takes the kintsugi technique one step further by incorporating unusual objects with broken porcelain pieces in order to unconventionally “repair” them.

The creative technique Gavin uses personally stood out to me and inspired me to recreate my own version of the Kintsugi technique using different mediums. My plan is to find a way of putting broken pieces of ceramics together using a range of different objects or materials to do so.
