How To Embrace the 'Summer Slump' with Employee Gifts
The Summer Slump is real and in full swing for employees during June, July, and August with Forbes reporting that workplace productivity drops 20% during the summer. So why not take this opportunity to celebrate your employees for all the hard work they’ve done up to this point with summer-themed Gift Boxes in Toronto sent right to their homes?
The Project We were approached by KPMG Canada to create cocktail gift boxes for their Team Summer Social event. Our client wanted us to create a fun margarita kit so we knew we wanted to play up the tropical vibes that come from drinking a margarita by using bright vibrant colours and flavours!
We incorporated the essentials for a flavourful margarita including Kinsip’s Orange Bitters from Prince Edward County, Kanel Spices Jalapeño Verde & Lime Salt for rimming the glass, lime, and a small treat of Squish Vegan Gummy Candies. We made sure to also bring the island vibe to the outside of the Curated Gift Boxes in Canada by creating a custom branded sticker with tropical leaves and a custom message from our KPMG client.
These Custom Gift Boxes Toronto came together perfectly and we were so happy to get to send out tropical-themed gifts at a time when we all could use a beach-side vacation and a margarita!
Tell us, how do you celebrate your team?

Gin consumption advice? I've got a lot of it and don't know what to do with it besides gin and tonics, which I don't like much.
Oofa doofa, okay. Gin’s not one of my favourite liquors, at least your average gin. I’ve had a really nice, flavourful gin (from Kinsip Distillery in Ontario), but I’m imagining this stuff either isn’t good enough to drink straight, or it’s just not appealing to do so. So what would I do with a bottle of Bombay Sapphire? Well, first, I’ve heard from a close and trusted friend that a good gin and tonic is not what I’ve made in past. According to her, it has more gin than you’d expect -- about one part gin to one part tonic -- and about half a lime’s worth of juice. I’d try that. If that doesn’t appeal, the base instinct in me is “hide the clear alcohol in juice”, a.k.a. the lazy woman’s mixed drink. Experiment with ratios to taste, maybe use an Italian-style soda if you’re feeling fancy. That might fit the bill. Now, with my Game Genie, I’ll just put in a couple of quick hacks, and... ah! The Floradora is apparently made with “gin, lime, raspberry and ginger ale”. Not too tough to get the ingredients, sounds sweet enough to counteract the bitterness of the gin, and apparently everyone loves it. Enjoy your gin! Still up, gonna listen to the Weirdos. Send asks to charge my POWER <3

Closed Stranger Adoption
reading about “Closed Stranger Adoption” - the name of the NZ adoption law between 1955-1985 which produced severing of whakapapa and integenerational complications for iwi, hapū and whānau where children were taken out of their iwi and placed into families. They then had no knowledge of their whakapapa, whenua etc. Also, many children were placed into non-māori families, severing their birth right to even their own culture.
There is diversity of attitudes to adoption within whãnau based on adoptees as “not blood”.
38 first cousins in my adoptive whānau, 4 of us were closed stranger adoptions into our whānau. 1 cousin was an open adoption like whangai and knowledge of whakapapa was maintained by kinsip ties, ie within the same hapū. Another 2 “secret” babies were adopted out of our whānau at birth and placed in a pākehā family.

Made on of the best Negronis I've ever had/made, using Kinsip's juniper wit barrel aged Gin. This gin has buttery notes to it that make it perfect in a Negroni. A new favorite for sure! If you are local to Ontario, I highly recommend.

We love popping into Kinsip, it is truly in its own lane. The only distillery among a vast area of breweries and wineries, it stands out purely by serving a different offering. Mastering many different varieties of alcohol, there is something for everyone. My personal favourite has been the gin ever…

Canadian Cheese Awards
The hall at Toronto’s famous St. Lawrence Market was packed with cheese makers, cheesemongers, cheese lovers and food bloggers.
It was cheese paradise.
The Canadian Cheese Awards, organized by the Canadian Cheese Festival is open to licensed artisan Canadian cheese makers who don’t use artificial colours, flavours or preservatives, and no modified milk ingredients. Only the pure milk of Canadian cows, goats, sheep and water buffalo is allowed.
The purpose of the Festival and the Awards is to promote Canadian cheeses which can have a difficult time standing out in the busy marketplace.
The cheeses which came from coast to coast were judged by 14 experts at the University of Guelph, Ontario’s top agricultural university.
The Canadian Cheese of the Year is Louis d’Or, an Alpine style cheese made by Jean Morin of Fromagerie du Presbytere in Saint-Elizabeth-de-Warwick, Quebec.
Louis d’or, Canadian Cheese of the Year
Jean Morin, Canadian Cheese of the Year Winner for Louis d’Or
After the awards were presented a Cheese Gala was held.
As the attendees are all cheese lovers, they carefully studied and discussed the cheeses in front of them as they happily shared recommendations: “You must try this, oh that one is fantastic” and on and on the tips came. The tips were all accurate, these were wonderful cheeses, served at the height of freshness.
One of my favorites was the Cows Creamery 3 Year Old Cheddar, from Cows Creamery, Charlottetown Prince Edward Island. I visited their shop in Charlottetown last year and they also make top notch ice cream.
I also tried the recommended Brickworks Cider, which pairs very well with cheese.
Kinsip House of Fine Spirits
I tried Kinsip House of Fine Spirits Maple Whisky, with a recommended ice cube in it to open up the flavors.
Mary Tang, Foodblogger, Yvonne, Alex Farm on Bayview, Linda Matarasso, Foodblogger
I always have a good time meeting up with my blogging friends at events. Pictured above is Mary Tang, who among her many accomplishments was on Gusto TV and Linda Matarasso who has always given me invaluable blogging advice. They were both recently named in a Top 40 Bloggers in Toronto list.
My favorite cheesemonger Yvonne from Alex Farm on Bayview was there and she gave me a lesson on the challenges of selling cheese in Canada.
Canadian cheese manufacturing comes under a complex set of rules from The Dairy Commission of Canada, “a Crown corporation with the mandate of coordinating federal and provincial dairy policies and creating a control mechanism for milk production which would help stabilize revenues and avoid costly surpluses”. Not only does the Dairy Commission set production quotas it sets certain prices.
This is the way the Canadian government has operated to protect its dairy farmers whose closest neighbor the United States could easily wipe out the Canadian dairy industry with its massive production of inexpensive dairy products. In fact this issue has blown up into major news as the American President attacks Canadian dairy tariffs.
The dairy farmers also have provincial regulations to follow and health regulations to pass. And if I understood Yvonne correctly cheese cannot pass provincial borders without special Federal permits. And this is just for Canadian cheese. Importing cheese from abroad has it’s own special set of rules to follow.
Perhaps Franz Kafka would feel right at home with the Byzantine rules for selling cheese.
Then the cheese makers have to get their products to market.
Comtomme, Fromagerie la Station de la Compton
And that’s when having a cheesemonger like Yvonne is a good thing. She has a loyal following of clientele and she gets to know their likes and desires.
Sometimes a favorite cheese might come into the shop a bit more aged and stronger than usual so Yvonne will recommend a different cheese more suited to the customers’s palate. Or if something new and exciting has just come in you are encouraged to try it, in fact you are encouraged to taste the cheese before buying, so you can avoid buying cheeses you don’t like. You get personal attention.
There are so many wonderful Canadian cheeses it’s time to get to know them, and to find yourself your own cheesemonger of course! And if you’re in Toronto go check out Alex Farm on Bayview and expand your cheese life.
You can start your search for fine Canadian cheeses with the list of finalists for the cheese awards. (click here)

what are your favorite liquors then?
A lovely question for me! I adore scotch. It’s a “sitting in a restaurant” drink because I can never convince myself to pay like seventy bucks for a bottle of alcohol, but if it’s good, I like the flavour and the way it wakes up my taste buds. I’m a fan of whiskey, I like vodka, rum is good... really, I’m pretty easy to please, especially if it’s good quality stuff. Gin is one of my least favourite alcohols because of its bitterness, but like I said, the stuff from Kinsip changed my mind completely. I’m also a sucker for sugary liqueurs. Will absolutely drink Malibu, Bailey’s, etc and so on and so forth. I am extremely specific and still listening to Tribe 8 and staying awake. Send asks? Thanks! <3
