Officially, uh, the Zompist Conlanging guide was the straw that broke the egg's shell. This post is a moderately accurate timestamp for when I decided I was actually nonbinary.

If you're asking the more general "which anime characters did you imprint on like a lost duckling while going through the gendies?" the best answers would be Cinnabar from Houseki no Kuni (who used to be my profile picture when I was a little hatchling) and Kino from Kino's Journey.

I mean, you can probably see where I'm coming from here lol. And if not, I think both of these anime are worth watching, though they're definitely both more philosophical and "literary" than your average anime.

And, it's not that a couple of anime characters and linguistics are the only reasons I had for deciding that I was nonbinary, of course! But I think they are the ones that are most particular to me.

This is a Hamilton AU where everyone works in journalism (except Peggy. Peggy works in marketing). It came to me because of the line from Washington On My Side - "we smack each other in the press and we don't print retractions" - and then I thought, what if they were the press? and also there really isn't enough good Angelica POV in this fandom when she is competent and ambitious and yes she and Hamilton have chemistry but what if they were also colleagues on the same footing, competing for the same front page? and so is Burr, while dying slowly of FOMO? Thomas Jefferson as the news editor from hell who probably once was a very good reporter but should absolutely not have been allowed to supervise other people? Eliza as the world's sweetest copyed? You just know Alexander would go ham if he got his own podcast. I have thought of journalism AUs for every fandom I have been in, it's just a question of fruition.

ain't practical, a world you can't touch: The English (Cornelia/Eli, 2022)

This was a Pushing Daisies AU prompted by a throwaway line in @sagiow's fic about Cornelia baking pies with her son. Many of my fic premises also come from taking things people say in shows literally and so when Eli said, "Ain't practical, a world you can't touch," a lightbulb went off in my head and then it became a way of giving them something better while taking away something else, an exchange that for me is necessary in any attempted fix-it for The English.

The Seven People You Meet In Mexico: The Sandman/Once Upon A Time In Mexico crossover (AO3 timestamp for this is 2013, which is when I got my account, but I'm gonna say 2007? 2008?)

When I was a teenager I had a Robert Rodriguez phase and a Johnny Depp phase (the latter has aged poorly) and the two dovetailed spectacularly in Once Upon A Time In Mexico. I honestly can't remember how this fic came about - maybe because it occurred to me that Sands probably was already acquainted with Delirium, and then it was just a question of him and El Mariachi meeting all the other Endless. It's been really strange revisiting this bit of juvenilia, especially after the Sandman Netflix.

Solving Your Life One Problem At A Time: Inglourious Basterds (Donny Donowitz/Smithson Utivich, 2010)

I also had a Tarantino phase as a teenager, and spent a heady few months in the Inglourious Basterds LiveJournal community (never been in a fandom with so much Dead Dove: Do Not Eat, ground was positively littered with them). This is a canon-divergent AU in which Operation Kino does not happen and nearly all the Basterds survive WWII; what would these completely deranged people do after the war in a civilian context? I have been thinking about Inglourious Basterds again recently because I am trying to learn Italian but I feel like Brad Pitt saying "Buongiorno" in the most godawful accent.

The Happiness Of Having Her With Me Unto Death: Great Expectations (one-sided Pip/Estella Havisham, 2009)

As part of my A-level revision I decided to write zombie apocalypse AUs for all of my literature texts. I managed Great Expectations and Proof (the David Auburn play about mathematics) but could not make zombie!Hamlet work.

I have always been obsessed with Estella Havisham. Someday I will write the AU where she arranges the "accidental" death of her abusive husband and teams up with Éponine Thénardier from Les Misérables and Maggie Tulliver from The Mill on the Floss, who have both survived their respective novels, to run a criminal empire. Estella is the Face, Maggie is the Brains and 'Ponine, she knows her way around. They blackmail Jaggers into helping them dodge the law. By the time Estella meets Pip again she is queen of the London underworld. She has finally, truly become her father's daughter.

[9:18pm] “that’s it, just like that,” kino breathed, his head dropped back against the back of his chair as his fingers pushed through your hair. his eyes were closed, biting his bottom lip. “you’re doing so well, baby.”

you kept trying to do things that prompted your boyfriend to either praise you or to let out a moan. his fingers would fist your hair before quickly loosening, reminding himself to be gentle with you. he was working on a new song for his soundcloud, but that somehow turned into him teaching you how to blow him because you were inexperienced -- which was something he found to be cute, but he found he enjoyed teaching you everything far too much.

“keep going,” he moaned, opening his eyes to look down at you between his legs, “i’m so close, _____. fuck--”

seeing you looking up at him wide-eyed with his cock in your mouth was enough to send him over the edge. his eyes squeezed shut as he came down your throat with almost a whine, his hands moving from your hair to dig his nails into the arms of his leather chair. you swallowed despite the taste that took you off guard, pulling off of his length and wiping your mouth off with the back of your hand.

“did i do okay?” you asked softly.

kino chuckled, opening his eyes and reaching out to cup your cheek, “absolutely.”

[12:11] You felt the wetness on your neck before you heard the sniffling. Your arms moved from Hyunggu’s back to his cheeks, lifting his face. His hips stuttered to a stop from their slow thrusts into you as he reluctantly lifted his face, his cheeks wet with tears and you pouted.

“What’s wrong?” you asked softly. Hyunggu shook his head with a sniffle and tried to drop his face back down but you wouldn’t let him.

“It’s dumb,” he tried to laugh it off but it only made you frown more as you pulled him closer to rest his forehead against yours.

“It won’t be to me,” you hummed.

Hyunggu sighed. “I just missed you. I hate when I can’t see you and I just...” He sniffled again, finally dropping his face back into your neck as he took a shaky breath. “I’m really just crying during sex because I miss you,” he mumbled quietly.

You kissed his head softly while rolling your hips up against him, drawing a soft sigh from his lips. Gently, you coaxed his face back up to look at you and you kissed him slowly, rolling your hips and urging him to start moving again.

“I missed you, too.”

"Babe, wake up." You softly said shaking your boyfriend's sleeping body and placing a tray with a delicious breakfast on your empty side of the bed. "What's wrong?" He said sleepy, still not being able to open his tired eyes. "Time to eat breakfast." You said, opening one of his eyes with your finger so he saw the breakfast you prepared. Unfortunately, you got a grumpy growl as an answer as he turned around, his back now facing you. "Just five more minutes." He said lazily. "Come on, you're not going to eat my homemade breakfast?" You said pouting and poking his right cheek. 

"I’m not going to stop poking you until I get some attention." You stated after poking his cheek for the nth time. He finally woke up and sat on your shared bed with the cutest sleepy face you've ever seen. "What's all of this for? You made me breakfast in bed? What did you do this time?" He said teasingly as he grabbed the tray with the breakfast and placed it on his lap to start eating. "I did nothing!! Don't you know what day it is today?" You asked, surprised. "Don't tell me I forgot our anniversary." He said once he took a bite of one of the pancakes and as his jaw dropped dramatically. "Of course not, idiot! It's your birthday!!" You said clearly believing his joke. "I know idiot, I was fooling you." He playfully said. 

Once he was done with the breakfast and once he has thanked you for it for the nth time, you both got out of bed. You were extremely excited about finally being able to give him your birthday gift through little hints you've been preparing for the last week. "You want me to guess the present you got me and give me ridiculous little clues that make me kinda afraid to even open it." He said giggling, impatient for opening the little box you gave him. "It's not even that hard!" You complained. "Babe you woke me up at 9:30 am and you pretend my brain works properly?" He said teasing you even more. He loved teasing you and planting soft kisses full of love on your pouty lips. "Okay fine, open it." You said pouting and rolling your eyes. "You're so cute." He said cupping your cheeks and planting a lovely kiss on your lips, just like he loved. 

The moment he opened the little box and found a pair of keys on it. "Does this mean-?" He said speechless. "Yes… We have been dating for a year now… AndAnd I thought it would be a good idea to move together." You shyly said. That was definitely the best gift he could get for his birthday.

He was ethereal. He exuded power when he was on stage and the way he moved ignited a fire inside you. You knew, however, that he was off-limits as he was the idol and you, one of the measly, unnoticeable designers for the band. 

You sigh deeply as Kino performs with the group on Mnet’s “Road to Kingdom”. He looked incredible, his facial expressions on point and he performed incredibly. Watching him from the side of the stage (for safety reasons, of course), you felt yourself pressing your legs together as they finished the ending pose for their version of Monsta X’s “Follow”. Instinctively, you bit your lip, almost too sexually as Kino made eye-contact with you, smirking and walking your way. Realizing he’s headed for you, you turn and saunter towards the dressing room, swinging your hips just a little, to tease.

Plopping yourself unceremoniously into the plush couch of the dressing room, you rub your eyes, sighing deeply. You knew you couldn’t catch feelings for any of the band members, you signed a contract that bore the exact rule: “Relations with any band member or staff member is strictly prohibited and will lead to immediate termination” but fuck you didn’t care at the moment.

Before you can clear your head and shake off the very inappropriate thoughts running through your head, in walks Kino himself, slightly sweaty but still looking as fine as ever, closing the door and propping his shoulder against it, arms crossed.

“Hi. Care to explain why you felt the need to swing your hips like that in those jeans?” Kino asks, a searing smirk plastered on his face.

“Oh, I can explain,” You chuckle lowly, your confidence surging.

“Because Kino, I love to tease. Especially to men that I believe can take my teasing and do something about it. You look so fucking good tonight, Kino. I really don’t want to keep my hands to myself and I really don’t want you to keep your hands off of me,” You say sensually, walking towards his leaning frame.

Taking a long strand of your hair, he twirls it slowly around his finger, tongue peeking out to lick his lips, setting your core on fire at the small movement.

“I would gladly take the risk of putting my hands on you. You drive me crazy constantly. The way you walk, laugh, everything. Everything you do draws me closer and fuck, all I want to do is turn you around and fuck you in front of this mirror so you can see how fucking perfect we are together,” Kino growls, grabbing your waist and pulling you into him.

“I signed a contract, Kino. No relations with anyone here, especially you,” You say, arms loosely draping the back of his neck, a smirk on your face.

“Right now, I don’t give a fuck and we won’t get caught,” Kino assures you quickly.

He pulls away from you and sits on the couch, legs spread and inviting you to sit in his lap, so you do. 

Seconds go by before Kino’s hands are on your waist, pulling your hips down lower to meet with his, moaning lightly as you feel his hard-on.

“I love the way you look at me when you think I’m not paying attention. It’s so fucking hot how I make you feel,” Kino whispers in your ear, lightly biting your ear.

Kino woke up from his nap when he felt the weight of someone lying down on him, perfectly lining up their bodies. He stirred, lazily, as soft lips traced the skin of his neck and pulled a pleased sigh out of him. He knew, without looking, that the person trying to rile him up was none other than Yuto. Contrary to most people’s beliefs, it was always Yuto.

Others always had the wrong understanding of his relationship with Yuto and Wooseok. They thought Wooseok was the untamable looking to take things for himself and Yuto was just quiet and gentle. They were very, very wrong. In reality, Wooseok was always gentle and even shy. But Yuto, he was always going around with a hungry gaze and taking what he wanted from his boyfriends. Wooseok was compliant and tender. Kino liked a little bit more of competition.

“What are you doing?” Kino slurred, trying to rub his eyes open.

“Kissing you,” Yuto replied simply.

He propped himself up with both hands and easily captured Kino’s lips to keep him from talking. Kino groaned and tangled his hands on Yuto’s hair, pushing him closer. Yuto complied and gently lowered himself, letting his weight trap Kino’s smaller frame against the mattress. He bit on the lower lip of the younger before sucking on it, causing him to buck his hips slightly. Yuto let go and grinned.

“Needy,” he muttered, elbows propped at each side of Kino.

“Says the one who woke me up just to make out.” Kino pulls on his hair harder, causing Yuto to growl. “God, your voice is so hot,” he mutters as he goes to bite and suck on his throat, feeling a surge of possession fill his gut.

Kino continues with his endeavors as he spreads his legs to make it easier for Yuto’s body to fit against his. Yuto growls and moans as he is marked up, softly grinding against his boyfriend who’s failing to keep him still by wrapping his legs around him. Kino pulls away and admires his work, caressing the skin that has started to bruise. Yuto can’t help the mewl that escapes his lips as he bucks his hips up and makes Kino moan too.

The tallest captures his lips again and presses harder against him as he continues to roll his hips. Kino can’t let himself fall behind as he pulls on Yuto’s hair and bites and suckles on his lips, breathy moans filling up the room as they make out. It feels almost suffocating, but Kino loves the feeling of being trapped under Yuto’s bigger frame. It’s exhilarating and turns him on more than he would like to admit.

Yuto starts speeding up and Kino rolls his hips to meet him hallway. It’s almost embarrassing how they’re fully clothed and grinding on each other like a pair of thirsty teenagers. Neither mind as Kino arches his back to receive him better and pulls on his hair like his life depends on it. Yuto kisses him open-mouthed, depositing vague traces of kisses on his jaw and cheeks.

Kino can’t help it as he finishes first, a loud and trembling mess. Yuto follows suit with a contained grunt, letting himself plop on Kino and making him huff. They kiss a little more, lazy and slow this time, as they recover from their little make-out session.

“I’m going to kill you,” Kino mutters softly as he massages his boyfriend’s scalp, feeling just a little sorry for pulling so hard on him.

“Am I on laundry duty this week?” Yuto asks sheepishly, eyes fluttering closed in satisfaction from the massage.

“Yes, you definitely are.”

[6:03pm] After a long day at work, Kino takes one look at your worn face and starts you a warm bath.

"Just relax honey, I'll have dinner ready for you when you get out."
