New song time! Which is sort of also old song time, because this was a song I originally did back in 2010 and thought, "I could do better now." Struggled pretty hard with parts of it because the violin samples I was using had some crackling artifacts in them that it took me a while to patch up, and then I had to do a bunch of EQ work because the bass was a little too heavy.

And you know what? Danny might need someone like that, who even as his humanity slips away still treats him as human, as not an eldritch creature of Space, of everything Between. Someone who treats him as well, him. Is his and Ras relationship healthy? Well maybe not in human terms, but do either of them count as such anymore?

The idea of the kids playing along is also amazing lol. Especially that Jordan and Ellie? Definitely same hat as Danny. Sure their forms still look sort of human, but that just makes it very uncanny valley. So others and siblings who treat them the same? They need it just as much- if nothing else than to not become so arrogant and uncaring of humanity that they could watch the world end without a blink.

Which, Damian! I bet Danny absolutely adores the grandbaby. I bet he crafts little ice bats and miniature planets to swirl above his crib. I bet he has a literal strip of space and stars on his ceiling. And Damian isn't the only grandbaby too- Dusan has a daughter in some timelines too. Not to mention Ras' adoptive daughter Nyssa, who he gave one of the Lazarus Pits to.

But speaking of Damian, I have to know what that would mean for Jason. Who was practically completely braindead before being thrown into the Pit. Who would have probably met Danny while there because I can't see Danny not also gently doting on another grandson.

Nahida told me you liked telling jokes! So I decided to include a small gift I held onto for a few years! It's a book of jokes I've said or used with explanations. I'm not certain this message will reach you, but if it does, keep it away from the other matra lest they start running again, eheh-

cyno walked the desert, red eyes sweeping the sand. he wasn’t looking for anything in specific- you could hardly call this a patrol, in truth. he was simply walking, just outside of aaru village, with no real intent except for his occasional glance upwards to appreciate the meteor shower currently taking place.

the sand and the air were cool, wicking away any sweat worked up from pacing in circles for the last… how long? an hour, maybe? he wasn’t sure. all he knew was that he’d made the decision to go for a walk not long after sundown, and ever since he had been doing just that. walking.

it felt almost like he was waiting for something. every time he would think surely, now he would be able to rest, every problem he has solved and every errant thought out to rest, some new idea would spring forth of nowhere. ‘stay for a while longer,’ it said, and though he would protest every time, well…

cyno shifted his weight his heel, prepared to walk his well-worn loop. however, at the last point before his turn, something warm came up behind him.

his polearm was in his hand before he could think, instinct angling it over his other hand to block whatever blow was coming. yet, nothing came.

a strange ball was floating just past his weapon, the bright shell standing out against the desaturated desert. part of him expected it to explode, to burst into flames, to do something dangerous to prove that his instinct to stay had been right.

but it didn’t, and it was only thanks to his reflexes that he managed to catch whatever dropped from the rapidly-dissipating shell before it hit the sand.

cyno’s mind raced as he noticed one of the objects he was holding was an envelope, understanding crashing into him. he’d just raised his weapon against a messenger of his god- of course it was you, who spoke through the stars, and even unintentionally, he still…

thankfully, you don’t seem to hold it against him.

your letter is kind, and though you addressed him by title, the rest of your language is far more casual. its… comforting, almost, as if he’s received a message from an old friend.

maybe it’s poor form to think of you like this. to dare touch what should be regarded as holy scripture, to flip through the book you gave him, skimming the notes you’d made, the comments you’d left for him.

and maybe it was dangerous to be so distracted in the dessert at night, when the light of your star had almost certainly acted as a beacon for his location. but you had blessed him with safe travels, promised him a safe night, and he believed that that was true.

razor trudged through wolvendom, his arms wrapped tightly around him. his lesson with lisa had led longer than it usually did, and the coming winter made the usually refreshing air frigid.

still, he pushed through. his coat wasn’t made to keep from cold, but normally he was back with his pack by now. normally, he’d be curled up with the rest of the wolves, near the middle since he didn’t have any fur of his own.

they had to be worried. he never stayed out late without warning.

he pushes through a thicker patch of bushes, stumbling into a clearing with a shiver. the canopy is thinner here, and he steps into the open space, hoping some of the lingering light could help sweep away his chill.

it doesn’t. something else, however, does.

as razor looks to the sky, to the shooting stars crossing it, one of them falls. he doesn’t realize it until it brushes the leaves, having assumed the light was from the setting sun, but he now realizes the truth. the sun had set a while ago, but as the star landed in his hands, it was hard not to think of it as a second.

bright. warm. he doesn’t know what the sun feels like, but the bumps on the ball feel like rays, energy buzzing within them. he holds the ball carefully, wondering if he should perhaps take it to andrius, who would certainly know what it meant if a star fell out of the sky.

the star acts before he does, falling apart into crystalline shards. for a moment he’s worried he’d done something wrong, but when he’s left with a sun-warmed coat and a folded sheet of paper, he’s a little less concerned.

razor considers the paper. he should go to his pack, but… what if it’s you? what if it’s something important?

it is from you, but it’s nothing to fret over. you’re simply… worried for him.

he rereads a few sentences, making sure he’s remembering the words right, but… he was correct the first time.

you cared for him. you sent him a coat. you promised him a visit when you finally came to teyvat, inviting him on a hunt with you.

razor put on the coat you had gifted him—it fit well, still warm from the star it was carried in—and thought over your letter as he walked.
