Ancient Fauna; crocodiles are hundreds of millions years old or whatever. mooses are remnants of the ice age. creatures that are young and yet have seen more of this earth than man ever will. who are flesh and blood and alive and yet move as if they exist on a different plane to us. and yet are so real and a part of things. you and these strange liminal creatures confound, sometimes you're being hit by cars or turned into purses and then sometimes giving a look that speaks of aeons gone and aeons to come
This… This is weirdly accurate. I have moments of absolute stupidity and then other times I am hit with inspiration to create (hopefully) pieces of art. Sometimes I am wise and know everything, especially when I give advice, and other times I have no common sense and I am hopelessly lost. Perfectly balanced, 50% dumbass
Would you like to find out what you would be the god of? Take my new uqiz to find out
#buns notes#buns moots !!#also also also#kinda strange it’s specifically ancient fauna??#I’ve always wanted a tattoo of a deer on my thigh#i always consider them to be wise and ancient creatures of wisdom

i touched on it briefly but i do wanna further explain the beginning of the line. General idea is that one shit billion years ago the chaos emeralds hovered over a fully ocean planet. it was in a spot where aquatic life flourished.
due to the chaos emeralds' influence (chaos energy radiation funtimes) the ancients formed like bubbles from the water. first few evolutionary things are them fully aquatic. also due to the chaos emeralds they evolved pretty quickly for a species, (but not exactly FAST ya know) between the lanky cat-like stage and what i would consider "adulthood" they were smart enough to use the resources and materials they had, some of which we see later on starfall, to build their own land using the highest hills underwater as a base. this was their kinda sedentary phase similar to humans, where they shifted from wandering about the ocean to building full homes, farming, etc. via many, many years they build upon what they already had, eventually creating floating metropolis', filled with farms, homes, libraries, and sacred places for the emeralds themselves. part of the reason starfall was so strange to them was the natural land that they had to adjust to.
a very specific head-canon (as if all of this isn't specific enough) is the idea of how they treated death. when someone becomes old and dies they kinda just. become a funky puddle. long before they became very technologically advanced or advanced at all, they'd pass them on via pouring them back into the ocean, where they came from. their version of "dust to dust" where we become one with the earth they'd once again become one with the ocean. their vast planetary ocean was not only valued and taken care of but sacred, as their ancestors were apart of that sea. for better or for worse, their species could never fully accept death. while cyberspace was already in idea, when they lost their planet it wasn't just a blow to loss of population, everything they had built, history, surrounding species, etc. one of the biggest blows was, as they saw it, the loss of every ancestor who's memory stayed within the ocean. without that ocean or a familiar one, cyberspace became a replacement, technically a better one, as now traumatized it was even harder to accept death.
another thing that's kinda implied but not stated on the timeline is that the reason chao are very baby-like, that being making baby sounds, doing toddler activies, but not actually being like. babies. is because their specie's evolution is very strange. brought about almost completely by chaos energy, they are basically the "children" of their evolutionary line. chao are in the infant stage (for the second time now) of their species, and it shows very literally.
ALSO. its specific that i gave early ancients little fins, bc for the chao those fins became their wings.
since they're already influenced by not only being on land but local flora and fauna, i like to think in a few. many lots of years chao will reach the full "adulthood" stage of their species that the ancients were at. they'd look pretty different, but not too different.
also the whole thing of the water around the master emerald being dead ancients, that BECAME the chao, i like that and the parallel to how they thought of their ocean. its almost reincarnation but not really.
also i had chaos as two different branches, either being the last surviving ancient egg that got microwaved bc the chaos emeralds were desperately trying to keep it alive, causing, THAT. or somehow came up from the chao themselves and got microwaved enough to either go back or go forward in evolution however you wanna take it. i left it loose but i prefer the former bc of immense knuckles parallels that are already there that are expanded on. (on that note, i like the idea that, even more knuckles parralels, their species were called 'the chaos', either after the chaos emeralds or other way around. not only that but it makes an interesting timeline of chaos emeralds - chaos species named after emeralds - last of their species named after species - emeralds named after last of species, it's a circle it's funny)
In general i have them as microwaved bc the cool idea that, as posed somewhere that i need to fact check/find in general, the idea that the chaos emeralds were "gifts from the gods", and that early echidnas in that area saw and remembered the ancients that fleed there, maybe drawing some rudementary art, and as time went on it just became a general idea. either way chaos became godly afterwards, becoming a weird self-fulfilling prophecy.
anyway if you see an ancient re-evolving push it back in. you missed your chance pal.
trying to figure out how the shift happened so i made an overcomplicated chart
