I know it’s not what anyone is following me for but I wanna talk about power dynamics and kink in Beastars (not in a sexy way in a theoretical way. sorry) cuz I think it’s fun and interesting.

I think my most controversial opinion is that I genuinely think Legosi is a straight man; I don’t agree with all the theories / headcanons that he’s bi or gay. I think the most apt real world comparison to his arc is trying to cope with being a feminist straight dom and I’m not joking. Him trying to come to terms with his attraction to herbivores including his desire to eat them while also deeply believing in their rights and safety and learning to accept that this attraction doesn’t need to be in conflict with that desire but also that he needs to act right about it (to the point that he initially consistently oversteps and speaks over and for them) is like… that’s about being a feminist straight dom. That’s about being a man who wants to dom women but also earnestly loves women and is trying to make peace with that.

Louis conversely I do genuinely believe is bisexual almooost up to being textually explicitly bisexual. Like he thinks about a man (Ibuki) and a woman (Juno) while trying and failing to hype himself up to have sex with that deer woman. But much like Legosi being exclusively attracted to herbivores he is exclusively attracted to carnivores and is trying to deny it because it makes him appear less capable of running his father’s organization. And he compensates for this by throwing himself into explicitly dangerous leadership positions and exerts dominance over carnivores and tries to distance himself from his actual identity as an herbivore. That IS what his arc is textually explicitly about.

The thing with Beastars’ world building around sexuality and attraction is that there’s regular gender-based sexuality, but there’s also an axes that doesn’t quite perfectly mirror human attraction which is species and specifically herbivore / carnivore attraction and that comes down to how one negotiates power dynamics in a relationship. And I think that’s a really fun thing to play with because it does resonate as someone into kink. Carnivores have an innate desire to eat herbivores so a carnivore attracted to herbivores has to deal with this and accept this almost fetishistic or seemingly perverse nature of their attraction. This does obviously still intersect with gender though. Haru as both a woman and an herbivore experiences an added layer of danger in relationships and society in general. That’s also why Legosi gets to have his straight dom narrative and that's why Juno gets to have an even more complex relationship to her sexuality as she tries to cope with being a female carnivore attracted to herbivores and the associated perversity of that as both a carnivore and a woman and the way her femininity comes into question due to that. I love Juno and also believe she is bisexual btw.

And then on the flip side herbivores attracted to carnivores appear to have an innate desire to be eaten by them intermingled with their sexual attraction… placing their attraction as still something seen as perverse to wider society but also putting them in this more victimized and by extension effeminate role too. So again you can see where gender would be echoed here (Haru, again, dealing with being both a woman and an herbivore who is attracted to carnivores and the self destructive behaviors she exhibits as a sort of coping mechanism for the lack of autonomy she’s granted and paternalism she deals with in wider society) but that it can happen regardless of gender too (Louis being a male herbivore attracted to carnivores and thus dealing with trying to fight a sort of emasculation presumed of him by his father, colleagues, and internally, and again the way he compensates for that).

Meanwhile I think Melon simply must be bisexual and experience weird latent attractions to both carnivores and herbivores on account of his being mixed between a carnivore and an herbivore. He is canonically a sadomasochist so both the desire to harm and be harmed is there, though due to his lack of appetite it comes out in ways other than the typical desire to eat or be eaten, and he gets to do cool things like be dominant / threatening to EVERYONE from the most societally vulnerable groups like Haru to even top-of-the-food-chain carnivores like the Shishigumi who would never otherwise be in a submissive position, including even a scene in the manga where it’s made clear that Melon doesn’t care about knowing what species he’s eating, echoing the classic “nobody is safe from their depravity” sentiment of the depraved bisexual trope (the same reason depraved bisexuals in media are so often incestuous, pedophilic, etc).

in fact, i pretty much only roleplay with plots involved. they can be silly or lighthearted, or dark if you want, but i’m just no good at random starters where two folks who know nothing about each-other just kinda gotta smoosh themselves together. it’s weird sometimes okay. that being said, i’m cool with pretty much any topic and i’m always down for an interesting thread where they Don’t Just smoosh into each-other y’know.

my IMs are always open for plotting and stuff, and once we get to know one-another and i’m cool with you, i can hand out my discord.

i don’t rp nsfw. that doesn’t mean i’m against it; hell i’m all for it, but the idea of writing it out just seems to go on longer than i ever would like. i’m usually all for the idea of rp’ing foreplay and aftercare, but not really the act, y’know? fade to blacks are where it’s at with me. also if you’re a minor, i won’t even do that sorta stuff with you. it’s illegal kids.

i have clinically diagnosed depression, anxiety, and borderline personality disorder ( bpd ), and i’m currently going to university, so such things can definitely intrude on my reply speed and motivation.

i also happen to be a part of and mod a pokemon rp group, which is my main fandom! considering this is a secondary / side fandom, i might not be on this blog that often. that being said, i’m relatively new to indie rp, and especially that of ace attorney rp. the last time i did indie ( though it was here on tumblr ), was back before we had im’ing, if that tells you anything, so the new landscape of indie and how it works is rather daunting for me, so please be patient

i have triggers, but they’re only brought about without proper warning, IE if you don’t run it by me and it happens very suddenly. these triggers are: major character death, verbal abuse, & emotional abuse — namely gaslighting. again, if this is brought up ahead of time, it’s fine, minus the major character death. please don’t have your muse up and die on me mid-thread.

the only games i haven’t played are Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney and Investigations 2 ( though i’ll get to it… i’ll get to it alright… )

there’s never gonna be a situation where klavier’s gonna have a healthy relationship with daryan. i’m all for it in an unhealthy way but if you try to make your daryan ooey-gooey and suddenly everything klavier’s ever wanted, it’s weird, out of canon, and i’m not for it. the man went to jail for smuggling shit in klavier’s own guitar and blew it up to destroy the evidence he doesn’t love him That Much.
