do you remember Stampys first couple hundred Lovely World videos? the ones with the overarching plot about Hit the Target and the helpers and the dogs, the era of the yacht and the submarine and HtTs pirate ship and Veeva Dash. At the end of every episode he would close with a reminder that everything was scripted and no, he didn't actually drive a submarine into an underwater cave, he didn't steer a yacht into the middle of the ocean to do battle with a pirate ship.

and remember the dsmp exile arc and Tommys party that nobody came to? and the audiences' emotions were so high that they were getting angry at other creators for not going over (and I think some got threats?) and philza needed to remind them that it wasn't real. that the script said that philza and tubbo and quackity and ghostbur and everyone else never received their invitations and he literally could not go to the party.

idk something about mcyt giving reality checks to their audience that whatever current roleplay drama is scripted and not real

#might as well dump some more thoughts into the tags #ive been thinking about the different storyboarding styles of wilbur and tommy #wilbur uses a lot more symbolism and motifs #like the color blue and friend #and the buttons #the stuff you would go over in your english honors class #whereas tommy really cranked up the angst #like all the way #all the whump #kinda reminds me of miraculous ladybug fanfics where everyone betrays marinette because lila manipulated everyone #thats the sort of stuff that brings up the audiences emotions so much that they start threatening the actual people #cause even though its not real the way it makes you feel is real #what was i saying oh yeah #its two different styles of writing a story and the first one is more widely accepted and respected #and the second one more relies on you already being emotionally attached to the characters #so you see that second style a lot in fanfics #and so its not surprising that there is a TON of fan content generated for the exile arc because that writing style is pandering to fans
