i feel like most of the people (or at least the ones i've seen) that say they're anti-kl/ance aren't actually anti-the real ship, they're anti-weird fanon kl/ance that actual anti's have made where lance is only hispanic when having sex or yelling about chimichangas and keith is shiro's darling blushing baby brother, ya know? i totally get the posts making you uncomfortable though! i'm just like. idk trying to see both sides?
oh yeah dude i totally get that part of it! like, hard same – i spend way too much time griping about bad fanon k/ance tbh. honestly for someone who loves kl i consume very little content of it. i make my own stuff because i feel like the vast majority of k/ance out there has nothing to do with their actual characters or the reason i fell in love with the potential relationship between them.
however, that isn’t what makes me uncomfortable. i’ve seen this really unfortunate tendency from she!th shippers especially to fabricate bullshit reasons for why k/ance is a crap ship (read: not as good as she!th, because she!th, in their own words, “is better”). usually it’s along the lines of “they aren’t friends in canon, lance is a mean bully, keith is indifferent to him/hates him and is clearly in love with shiro according to my totally unbiased opinion, they communicate badly/not at all, and shipping them is supporting the idea that boys tease girls because they like them and that’s ABUSE.”
meanwhile im just over here like… yikes on bikes lol. like, if that’s what their dynamic reminds you of it’s totally legit to not want to ship them, and i completely agree that it’s bizarre and delusional to claim keith and lance are “clearly in love” at this point on the canon timeline, but that’s never what shipping has been about. for me, and for lots of others, the appeal of k/ance lies in what keith and lance could be together once they overcome their issues. in my eyes, the show itself has been setting up for that from the start – they’re clearly going to end up as great friends whose strengths complement each other, and wanting to read romance into that potential is, in my opinion, pretty natural. pulling out “””receipts””” about how they clearly hate each other in the here and now and how that sends a horrible toxic message!!!! just makes people who, for whatever reason, do enjoy keith and lance’s dynamic – both current and potential – feel guilty and ashamed. like… it’s just never a nice feeling to have people shitting on something you love.
i like to see both sides too, and i don’t think anyone needs to hide what they dislike or cater to anybody else. but i also think this stuff reeks of ship wars, and that it’s unnecessary to spread negativity and make people feel bad about liking what they like, u feel?
