revenant watching viktor get a storyline where he’s brought back to life against his will, becomes the main figure of a cult, uses his power on people and they see it as healing but it’s actually depriving them of emotion and turning them into monsters
#i mean this in a ‘that’s a great concept! why didn’t the apex writers think of that’ way and not a ‘ugh. they’re copying ideas’ way#it’s canon that a cult followed revenant at some point#AND before his rework he could turn other people into shadows#what if duardo never upgraded him but he still got his source code and access to all his bodies#and they just started turning everyone into shadows?#kill code but it’s a full-on zombie invasion#apex legends#arcane#arcane spoilers#apex revenant#kaleb cross

Dawg I want nothing more than a full essay about Shiro ong
Who sent this? The last time I posted anything about Shiro was like 2 months ago. Aside from the ask that just got posted.
Shiro Hane, eldest daughter of Hugo and Delia Hane. Her name translates to "White Wing," a nod to Fire Emblem's Pegasus Knights, which is fitting considering she was created to playtest my homebrew Pegasus Knight class, the Skywatcher. Weirdly enough, her parents don't seem to be named anything japanese, so... They're just weeaboos I guess.
As is Pegasus Knight tradition, she has two younger siblings, Kazia and Sora (translating to Wind and Sky, respectively), and all three of them are color coded - green for her, blue for Kazia the middle sister, and pink for Sora the youngest sibling.
All of them live on the Hane Farm, which exports much of the city's food. She started helping from a young age, and at this point would nearly be capable of running the place if her parents weren't around.
For the most part, her younger siblings look up to her as the ever-perfect eldest sibling, and she does her part in maintaining the image of a perfect paragon. Beauty, grace, charisma, strength, duty - you name it, she's got it, and she makes it look easy. Though rolling max Strength at level 1 certainly doesn't hurt. Her siblings may or may not develop an inferiority complex from this.
As for Shiro herself, she's got a number of heros to choose from in her bloodline alone. Her father's implied to be a retired(?) adventurer, and her grandmother was a legend in her own right. But the one she looks up to most is her grandfather, one "Tin-Hat Donny." Left behind to tend the farm and care for the kids while grandma was out there being a legend , he singlehandedly fended off an invasion of undead from the farm - apparently with such gusto that a corner of the farm remains cursed to this day. "The Killing Field," as it came to be known, is full of fog, and the kiddos have been warned away from going anywhere near it. It's actually uncertain whether or not it's actually cursed, or whether Grandpa Donny made it up to improve sales and reassure customers that they aren't eating bits of zombie, but the result is the same nonetheless. Shiro's been promised that she'll be allowed in after a bit of adventuring experience, but it still irks her that part of the farm is impossible for her to manage for now.
While as with any family there are occasional bits of friction, on the whole they care about each other and plan to form their own flight squadron in the future. After all, there's no better way to perform the Pegasus Knight's sacred Triangle Attack.
Speaking of which, it's basically impossible to talk about a Pegasus Knight without also mentioning said steed. Kenshi is Shiro's personal pegasus, having been assigned to her from a young age by her parents. Both Shiro and Kenshi take this duty vary seriously - though there have been some moments when they wished they didn't, like the time Shiro's siblings painted her horse without her knowledge. Her sibling have got their own pegasi to worry about now, at least.
Reflective of Fire Emblem's mechanics, in combat Shiro and Kenshi act as a single unit - moving as one, fighting as one, and dying as one. Not that either of them have died, but Kenshi doesnt have his own health bar. The nature of a Bonded Mount is more like a transformation such as Rage than a normal mount - part of the reason why I wrote the Skywatcher class was to get around 5e's weirdness with mounts. Ingame, this is explained by the "summoned" mount being a spectral projection of the horse, much like Echo Knight's thing but without the mechanical messiness.
Until recently it was unknown to Shiro that Skywatchers can actually bond to multiple mounts at once. So now she can also summon a motorcycle from hell. It remains to be seen what Kenshi thinks about this. The motorcycle's name is Rohan, mostly because I liked the pattern of names it created. Ken-shi. Shi-ro. Ro-han. Han-e.
Oh yeah, she got the bike after the party killed a man who kidnapped one of their classmates. These are high schoolers. They're currently trying to save several of their classmates, including one of the party's siblings, two of their parents, and one of their party members, from being sacrificed to a dragon.
In combat, Shiro leverages her monstrous strength and unmatched mobility with dual lances. Most pegasus knights (read: GBA Fire Emblems) wouldn't have the consitution to wield such weapons, but that's not a problem for Shiro. Shiro also has the ability to Rally, granting buffs to her allies in lieu of an attack, as well as Canto to grab and move an ally with her enormous movement speed.
Outside of combat, Shiro still has high charisma for social situations, though her track record is about as good at talking herself into bad situations as it is at talking herself out of bad situations. From talking smack to a serial cannibal (and instantly getting downed from full HP because of it) to accidentally inviting a complete stranger to join the party without consulting any of them (out-of-universe, another player was joining the group), she could stand to hold back sometimes. Rallies also give her just a pinch of utility, allowing her to grant proficiency in any skill - briefly. She's also extremely prepared for all sort of situations, carrying tools such as medical kits, disguise kits, and weaver's tools at all times. And... Ropes and chains for some reason. Don't read too much into that.
Shiro's got a thirst for recognition, for validation, for the chance to prove herself. She's got a stubborn streak and a strong sense of justice. She's got a strong body and a sharp mind. Shiro is also so, so very green. I don't mean her color palette (though that's also green) - she's had one week of school and she's facing down life-or-death situations. That's 5e for you.
She's also got signs of a budding romance with the party's cleric, but she's taking that at her own pace. No matter what a talking motorcycle might have to say about it.
Shiro has been a blast to play, both character-wise and mechanics-wise. Can't wait for the next session when she'll finally punch a fish in the face.

Black Sails Confinement Challenge - Prompts
Here it is! The list of 50 prompts to inspire confined fic writers to write about confined characters. Here’s how I broke them down:
The General (G1 - G25) prompts only contain ideas for settings and sometimes simple plot ideas. They can be used for any ship or character. Please fill these prompts as closely to the general idea/mood as possible.
The Specific (S1 - S25) prompts tend to be more detailed and contain a ship request. If you choose a specific prompt, please write the ship/main characters requested in these prompts, whose names you have been bolded for your convenience.
Tomorrow I’ll be posting a form to let authors claim prompts. Prompts can be claimed anytime during the challenge but prompts are granted on a first-come, first-serve basis (this list will be updated to reflect which prompts are currently claimed). Specific prompts can only be claimed once. General prompts may be claimed several times AS LONG AS the writers are working on different characters/ships (they will be asked who they plan on writing in the submission form). There is no deadline or minimum length, but authors must make some progress within one month of claiming the prompt (ie, at least an outline and a few paragraphs). Prompts for which the author has gone radio-silent or made absolutely no progress in one month will be put back up for grabs. Authors can fill as many prompts as they like, on the condition that they claim one prompt at a time and finish each prompt before starting working on another.
As always my inbox or PMs stay open if you have any questions about this challenge!
And now, without further ado, let yourself be inspired by these prompts and choose your favourites (1 main, 2 backup) for signup tomorrow! (write down the FULL code, fx G5 or S22)

SPECIFIC PROMPTS (specific ship/character)
S1 Ranger trio is stuck in space prison and have to try to escape ft. Space ship Captain Vane, Anne with blaster shooters (or maybe a lightsaber if it’s a star wars au) and hacker Jack. Mood: Funny.
S2 Thomas and Silver are stuck in James' flat... without James. They're stuck there separated from James until the shelter in place order is lifted (pick your poison - pandemic? Bad storm? Dangerous escaped convict on the loose?). Sexual tension ensues.
S3 Inspired by S4: Madi and Eleanor are confined together in the hidden cellar of Miranda's house when Spanish troops are invading the island (and this time they don't get assaulted/killed). Unresolved sexual tension, unresolved sibling-like rivalry. Bonus: just some angry ✂️✂️✂️
S4 Eleanor is imprisoned in England and thinks about Max. Mood: angst, broken heart, angry.
S5 Silver is stranded at Miranda's house, could be with or w/o the captain. Reason: suspect outbreak on the Walrus, Silver can't go back on board, Flint doesn't want his map wandering around Nassau. Mood: funny, smutty, up to the writer.
S6 Israel Hands + character of your choice. Place: a ship, in a locked room Reason: misbehavior? crew shenanigans? Mood: writers choice.
S7 Utley pisses off a superior officer and gets locked in with Flint. Place: the cell in the fort. Mood: ust, smut!
S8 John Silver and the companion of yr choice. Place: an island. Reason: marooned by a pissed off crew. Mood: up to the writer (not too tragic?)
S9 Flint is stuck on shore and runs into someone he knew (and liked) in his old life. Place: a terrible tavern or a room above. Reason: too stormy to return to ship. Mood: friendly to smutty? I just want Flint have a little bit of happiness.
S10 Miranda comes to meet Flint but gets stuck at the brothel as things get dangerous on the streets. Reason: some kind of unrest, riots. Mood: fluff or smut or anything as long as Miranda is not miserable.
S11 Modern au first meeting Silver & Miranda. Place: Elevator. Reason: breakdown. Mood: up to the writer.
S12 Muldoon is sick and no one knows what with. Silver is worried and Flint extends a rare offering of comfort.
S13 It's 1721. James and Thomas are still incarcerated at the plantation but at least they live together in a separate little cabin. With smallpox spreading from Boston to the rest of the colonies, Oglethorpe shuts down work for a few days and has everyone shelter in place.
S14 Silver showed up on Flint and Thomas' doorstep and the reunion isn't going well. Just when Silver is about to leave in a huff, they get stuck indoors (b/c weather, plague, authorities looking for Silver, etc) and Thomas is stuck with Flint and Silver's angry/awkward UST. He knows the only way to resolve this is in bed, and starts dropping less-than-subtle hints. 👉🏻👌🏻 Mood: funny, smutty.
S15 A scientific research station in space (Solaris AU but with a happy ending!). Flint is sent to investigate a space station after receiving some weird reports. Silver is one the few remaining members of the crew. An incident make them unable to leave without some major repairs. Angsty, slow burn, where Flint slowly accepts to move on after the death of Miranda&Thomas.
If you're not familiar with Solaris (book or movie) check wikipedia but: the space station is doing research on a mysterious planet covered with an ocean; but that ocean gives the crew some strange "side effects". Their secrets/fears/guilt take a material (often human) form. Flint sees Miranda (or Thomas, or both, as you prefer) for example. As Flint learns to deal with the loss of his loved ones he grows closer to one member of the crew, Silver.* Their bond help them break from the planet's melancholic influence, give them motivation to repair the station and finally leave together. *That could be a great opportunity to write about Silver's (probably very dark according to the BS writers) past!
S16 Silver / Flint - modern era, fake dating for some reason, now they're stuck together for a long time. Place: Somewhere travel related like a hotel room. Reason: quarantine like we're in now. Mood: angsty, UST.
S17 Flint's cabin on the Walrus. Silver is recovering from the leg amputation and discovers Flint has locked him in the cabin. Mood: angsty, angry, fluff if you want?
S18 Flint and Silver captured by the Spanish and Flint learns the truth about Silver’s past. Place: The plantation. Reason: Took control but hit some problems. Mood: Hurt/comfort or angst with happy ending.
S19 Silver & Flint reunion fic – they are stuck together in the room because of the snow and there is only 1 bed. Place: an inn. Mood: UST
S20 horror movie au (not really scary) silver & flint spend the night at a scary cabin after reading one too many ghost stories. Reason: someone locked the keys in the car and there's no signal. Mood: cracky.
S21 Silver and Flint in a magical au get stuck together by either a spell gone wrong or a curse and they find this frustrating in every possible way but have to get on the same page to reverse it.
S22 Flint and Silver are neighbours, but haven't spoken before. They both have gardens and can see each other through gaps in the fence. During the lockdown (because of a disease), Silver and Flint become aware of each other in close proximity but separated by the garden fence. So begins an odd flirtation involving sunbathing and topless gardening and water fights. Mood: Sexual tension. Flirting. Maybe voyeurism?
S23 Place: a house with large backyard (probably farmhouse?) Reason: Snowstorm for a week. Snowstorms happened and they had blackout in the house. Silver doesn't like darkness and he keep clinging to Flint. Flint doesn't like Silver's but he had to because Flint doesn't remember their house (floor plan, I mean) and ended up spending their time in other bedroom. Mood: sexual tension, confession, first kiss and first time.
S24 Silver and Flint bicker about emergency prep and then make up. Place: modern apartment. Reason: some disaster.
S25 Silver is talking to Flint, Flint is avoiding De Groot and so Silver finds himself manhandled into a very small compartment he'd never noticed on the Walrus. Mood: silly, ust

D-DAY IS HERE
IT'S DEADLINE DAY!!
Art and Fics Due - September 26th, 11:59 PM (Midnight) PST (here is a timezone converter.) ~ We can't wait to see what you all have created and can't wait to share it with everyone! IMPORTANT NOTE: I will be sending out emails to our artists who were willing to pinch hit art, as we have one outstanding art claim, and we may delay Debut Day if it is not picked up. (There may also be a slight delay because the mods are sick and in school, but we are doing our best not to let that happen!) POSTING: In case you need a hand with posting or last minute questions, check under the cut for a rundown on how to post your final works to the 2018 Collection.
POSTING REQUIREMENTS Where do we post our completed fics? We are using AO3 collections, with the deadline for submission as September 26th, and the reveal date of October 1st. You can post them up early!! Post them up now, if you want! You can also post your fics anywhere else you like, just don't post them anywhere before the Debut Date. Everyone who has signed up for this challenge should have an AO3 account, but if you don't, you can still sign up. You can ask a friend for an invite code, or you can request from A03 here or at
ao3_invitecodes. If you are unfamiliar with it, here is the FAQ of AO3. Do not publish your fic for everyone to see at AO3. Instead, submit it for our 2018 collection. Only the author of a work can add it to a collection, and then the mods approve it and we'll reveal it on the Debut Date. Once you've done that, we are also asking you to drop an email to thehetbigbang [at] gmail dot com when you submit your work to A03, with the following information: Email Subject Line: (Fic or Art Submission. YOUR NAME.)
AO3 Name/LJ Name: (both) Fandom: Pairing: Artwork or Fic: (artwork for "Title of Fic, by Author") or (Fic: "Title, rating, and word count. Big Bang or Little Bang.") Summary: (if applicable.)
Further Posting guidelines below. (The pics used are for the old 2012 submissions, but just mentally adjust for 2018.) 1. Sign up for A03. You can ask a friend for an invite code, or you can request from A03 here or at
ao3_invitecodes. 2. DO NOT POST YOUR FICS/ARTS SO THAT THE GENERAL PUBLIC CAN SEE THEM. Double check after posting to make sure it doesn't get posted to the general audience. If it does, delete the work and start over. Instead, you need to allow the mods to collect your fic/arts so that we can reveal everything together on October 1st. Go here, to the 2018 Het Big Bang Collection, and go the "Post to Collection" button in the top right corner. The collection is currently open, moderated and unrevealed.
This will bring you to the normal template where you submit your fic/artwork. In the first block, you fill out all the tags: fandom, warnings, ratings, characters, pairings, additional tags, etc. In the second block, you fill out the preface information, including title, summary, and author's notes. 2a. For Artist: your summary line should include your author's name and the title of their story (if you know it). 3. In the third block, for "Associations" make sure the line for "Post to Collections/Challenges" lists "Het_Big_Little_Bang_Challenge_2018."
3a. For Artists: the next line, "Gift this work to:" should be filled out as well. Artist, you know your Author's A03 name, which should have been provided to you through your emails. If for some reason it was not, please contact your authors and get this name from them. Fill in the "Gift this work to:" line with your author's name. That will link your artwork to them. After the submissions have gone live on the Debut Date, we would like you to go back and edit your submission to add in a link to the specific story you created your artwork for. But until the entire big bang goes public, the main way you'll attach your artwork to the piece will be by identifying the author through gifting. When you finally get the chance to link to the story, edit your submission and use the HTLM coding: <*a href="INSERT THE URL HERE">Title, by Author. (Remove the *) You can put this in your author's note or summary. 3b. For Authors: After the submissions have gone live on the Debut Date, we would need you to go back and edit your submission to add in a link to the specific artwork that was created for your story. You don't have to "Gift this work to:" to the artist, but it'd be neat if you wanted to do so. When you finally get the chance to link to the artwork, edit your submission and use the HTLM coding: <*a href="INSERT THE URL HERE">Title, by Artist. (Remove the *) You can put this in your author's note or summary. 4. Formatting and coding guidelines are important. 4a. For Artists: AO3 video embeds are working from Youtube, Vimeo, blip.tv, Dailymotion, Viddler, Metacafe, and 4shared. So if you have a video, you upload it to Youtube for example, and then embed into an AO3 post. For images like artwork and icons and banners and cover art, use the <*img src="INSERT YOUR URL HERE"> HTML coding (remove the *). You can first upload your images at Tinypic or imgbox or a similar image hosting website, and then make an A03 post with the HTML coding. (*NOTE: As of 2017, photobucket no longers allows you to post and link without paying big bucks, so avoid photobucket.) 5. Submit your fic/artwork. You need to make sure when you hit "Post" that you see this text at the top of the resulting page:
"This work is part of an ongoing challenge and will be revealed soon! You can find details here: Het Big/Little Bang Challenge 2018"
6. Now, your fic should NOT be displayed to the general audience. It might not even show up on your dash, but fear not. You can still edit, add new chapters, mess around with it to your heart's content. We, the mods, unfortunately do not have access to your story. We cannot tell if it is properly formatted or not. THIS IS FRUSTRATING, but there's nothing we can do about it. We can only see your name. All works are titled "Mystery Works" until we reveal the entire big bang. So, please make sure your own fic is properly formatted. If you need to edit your fic, login and go to your dashboard. Go to the "Edit Works" button in the top right corner. From there, you can edit your works.
A03 will require you to format a header with all regular information on it. Remember to properly tag your works, including appropriate warnings. Both HTML and Rich Text are supported, and you can edit/delete, have multiple chapters, etc... 1. The Rich Text Editor lets you add formatting, links and pictures to text without using HTML tags. It also has an option for pasting from Word which will preserve some of your Word formatting, although please note that this is buggy. The Rich Text Editor is only available for your work text. 2. The HTML editor allows you to change the look of your text with HTML tags. It can be used in any place you can submit text, although some fields permit only a small subsection of allowed tags. You can see a full list of the allowed HTML on the Archive FAQ, but the standard HTML tags is as follows: b, big, blockquote, br, caption, center, datetime, div, dl, dt, em, h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6, height, hr, href, i, img, ins, small, span, src, strike, strong, sub, sup, table, u, and more. Also, a few years ago,
anr was a saint and provided you with a post that explained "how to format a fic for posting in less than 30 seconds no matter the story length or amount of formatting" trick. The mods won't be overly picky about formatting. I'd prefer for all dividers and scene breaks to use <*hr> (remove the *) which creates a horizontal line that serves perfectly as a scene break. However, that's optional. You choose your own way to format. Other optional suggestions, just for uniformity sake's: How do I do Chapter Titles: Bold 'em. How do I timestamp and do locations: Italicize the dates and locations. How do I do subtitle stuff: Italicize it. There is only one major fail regarding format, and that has to do with paragraphs breaks. There must be a full line break between paragraphs. Example of doing it wrong:
Chapter One: The Invasion March 6, 2005 - The City of Atlantis Elizabeth ducked quickly behind a console and attempted to catch her breath. A flush of pink colored her cheeks and a thin sheen of sweat had appeared on her brow. If the situation weren't so dire, John would have been turned on. As it was, however, he couldn't give it much thought as he had to focus on the batch of Ancient zombies that were slowly staggering in through the Stargate. "At least they can't run," he offered lamely. Elizabeth spared him a glare. "Why can't they run?" "I don't know." John shrugged. "But they never seem to run. They always lurch. Maybe when they're brought back to life they don't get knees?"
Example of doing it right:
Chapter Two: Ancient Ex-Girlfriends Yes, They're Zombies Too Elizabeth peeked around the consol. "Oh, my god," she breathed. "Is that--" "Chaya?!" John squeaked. "Talk about creepy ex-girlfriends." Rodney scrunched his nose. "She doesn't look good in green." John cringed and crouched down lower. "Do you think she's their leader?" Elizabeth looked thoughtful. "Well, this may be better for us." She narrowed her eyes at John. "We can give them you in trade for a cease fire--" Something caught her attention behind John and she broke off. "No, wait. Look to the left! That's... oh, god, John. That's Teer!" John and Rodney stared in disbelief. "Damn you, Kirk!" Rodney groused, and hit John upside the head. "We're going to be killed by a legion of your dead ex-girlfriends!" "Okay, everybody calm down," John soothed. "Let's not overreact and go blaming--" "Hey, look, your ex-wife!" "What?!!"
Grammar and Spelling fail: If your fic doesn't look beta'ed, we will call you on it, which will create an AWKWARD situation for both of us. Having a beta is a REQUIREMENT. Grammar, spelling, proper paragraph structure, etc... these are all REQUIREMENTS. You need to give your beta ample opportunity to go over your fic for mistakes and edits, so remember to factor that into your deadline. Don't have a beta? Check out this post!
Can I post it to my journal a few days early to show my friends? No. The first time you show your fic for this big bang must be on Debut Day, on this comm. Mods will handle the revealing details. There will be more posts on that to come. Once the Big Bang collection goes live on Oct 1, feel free to post your stuff wherever. Also, please remember that extensions for final fic and art submissions will not be granted. Please make sure your stories and art are submitted no later than September 26th. If you absolutely cannot make it, contact a mod immediately - either via email at thehetbigbang [at] gmail.com, or on the Page-A-Mod post, or PM
red_b_rackham or
traycer_. Lastly, remember if you need some to cry, scream, flail, yell triumphantly, encourage, cheerlead, etc, don't hesitate to check out the support comm and throw up some posts for each other!
YOU'RE ALMOST THERE!!

YouTube and the War on Truth As of June 2019, YouTube, owned by Google Corporation, with a long history of peddling “big data” to spy agencies and right-wing extremist groups, is going to “clean house.” Their claim, that they will remove all “hate speech” and unspecified other “objectionable material” is a huge threat against free speech around the world. You see, Google’s YouTube has actively molded a world of its own, financially partnering with the fake, the inane, the absurd while deeply censoring free speech from day one. For years, YouTube has run an obscure system of fake volunteers financed by think tanks and spy agencies, hundreds of them housed in special facilities in Haifa, Israel, that ban users whose material reflects badly in Israeli apartheid. Moreover, YouTube has provided, in partnership with the highly secretive military contracting firms, Idea Groups and Jigsaw, to give terror groups like al Qaeda and their many “nephews” along with ISIS, “on the fly” covert communications and operational intelligence. The same “troll rooms” in Haifa that clean free speech from YouTube help secure private posting boards for ISIS and other terror groups who communicate their operational plans using comment boards on videos. This was the ISIS fallback when their use of Facebook chat was exposed, and the NSA began tracing terror cells through their “Zuckerman channel.” ISIS and al Qaeda members simply stay logged into their YouTube app and run “tear sheet” coded transmissions under the protection of Google Corporation. More than that, this process, using YouTube chat to plan terror bombings, mass shootings or gas attacks is taught by advisory groups financed under Google Jigsaw’s program of fostering “democratic resistance to tyranny.” Google financed resistance organizations have been active in support of what they term “democratic movements” in Syria, Egypt, Libya, Sudan, Somalia, Ghana, Cameroon, Nigeria, Ukraine, Georgia, Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Bahrain, Sri Lanka, Italy, France, Germany, Belgium and two dozen other nations. Our projections show that these groups have been tied to assassinations, literally hundreds of bombings, kidnappings and mass rape, theft of antiquities, massive arms trafficking and, of course, manipulation of the media. In fact, the Google-Facebook partnership which includes YouTube, operates cells on 3 continents with a playbook taken directly from NATO’s failed Gladio operation. For those unaware, Gladio was established by NATO in the late 1970s to train resistance fighters in case of a Soviet invasion of Europe. Gladio, however, soon became Black September, the Red Brigades and eventually ISIS, according to our sources. For 20 years, Gladio terror attacks, an organization intended to fight the Soviet Union, terrorized Europe. History is now repeating itself, but the scale is a thousand times greater. Liars Decide What is True YouTube’s earliest targets are to be BDS, the movement to force governments to use Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions to enforce UN resolutions involving Palestine. It is good to note that over 45 % of what is called Israel, without Gaza, Golan or the West Bank, is legally the Palestinian State of Judea and Samara, in accordance with UN resolutions with BDS programs directly in accord with international law as stated in the Fourth Geneva Convention. YouTube has decided to operate outside UN resolutions and to oppose the authority of the International Criminal Court at The Hague and the Geneva Convention. Naming YouTube-Google-Facebook a “rogue state” is legally supportable. Calling them the Deep State may well be even more accurate. From the New York Times, June 5, 2019: “YouTube announced plans on Wednesday to remove thousands of videos and channels that advocate neo-Nazism, white supremacy and other bigoted ideologies in an attempt to clean up extremism and hate speech on its popular service. The new policy will ban “videos alleging that a group is superior in order to justify discrimination, segregation or exclusion,” the company said in a blog post. The prohibition will also cover videos denying that violent events, like the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, took place. YouTube did not name any specific channels or videos that would be banned. But on Wednesday, numerous far-right creators began complaining that their videos had been deleted, or had been stripped of ads, presumably a result of the new policy. “It’s our responsibility to protect that, and prevent our platform from being used to incite hatred, harassment, discrimination and violence,” the blog post said.” It is funny that the Times mentions Sandy Hook. A prominent American academic is facing a defamation trial for editing a series of papers by independent journalists who comment on inconsistencies in the official narrative. Our own investigation of the incident, from a counter-terrorism, counter-intelligence standpoint found massive irregularities in the investigation and handling of evidence and, moreover, the fact that funds used to punish or silence members of the independent press, is of mysterious origin. In fact, so many investigations are botched or rather faked. For some years, I managed security firms that, among other capabilities, investigated critical incidents, including air crashes, mine disasters and terrorism. Most of our investigators and forensics experts came from the FBI or other agencies. The mechanism believed to have been employed at Sandy Hook was certainly employed at 9/11, at Khan Sheikhoun in Syria, during the murders of John and Robert Kennedy along with the alleged Skripal poisonings in Britain. In case after case, as is easy to ascertain, governments are overthrown, bombing attacks ordered, countries invaded, sanctions employed, all based on “findings” from fake investigations of incidents where the real perpetrators are those who benefit, as is always the case, from the mayhem and suffering caused. Of course now, YouTube has stepped in to remove the offending videos, which include CBS anchor Dan Rather reporting the arrest of Mossad agents with explosives on the George Washington Bridge on 9/11, videos of tactical nuclear weapons used against Yemen or outside Damascus in May 2013 and, most telling of all, the statements of dozens of witnesses describing how the White Helmets stage gas attacks including, in one video, 40 former White Helmets themselves. Are we seeing an agenda here? This reminds me of a personal experience. I had just returned from Nairobi where I was tasked with making recommendations to the Interior Ministry after the infamous shopping mall attack that killed 71 people. When I got home, a local attorney asked for pro bono aid in investigating a fatal car crash involving two vehicles that hit head on outside Wauseon, Ohio. The police investigation, made entirely on the scene in less than 30 minutes, found a young woman driving one of the vehicles responsible of homicide. Our investigation showed that, at the scene, the young woman was refused medical care though in critical condition and was later arrested based on a coerced confession made while she was in a semi-coma in the intensive care unit of a local hospital. She nearly died during the helicopter ride, something worth note. There was one problem. Both cars were found in the lane where the young woman was driving and the other driver, an older woman, had actually crossed over the line and caused the accident. Review of medical records showed the older woman to have been heavily drugged on Ambien, a hypnotic sedative and a cocktail of opioids and anti-psychotic drugs. She was, medically, a “zombie.” Worse still, when the “black boxes” were downloaded from each vehicle and uploaded into a “full physics” crash simulator, the animations, which exactly mimic car movements, steering, speed, braking, easily demonstrated that the police had faked the investigation. A review of the officers involved showed that they had performed hundreds of similar investigations, all with no forensic evidence, all simply fabricated. It isn’t just traffic accidents, criminal investigations of all kinds are much the same, pick a guilty person, engineer fake evidence, and send them to prison. There’s a pattern here. If an official source comes forward, then we have a whistleblower, a “criminal.” They can’t be believed. In fact, they must be hunted down and imprisoned. If it is an independent journalist, they are “conspiracy theorists” and YouTube erases their work. If video evidence is so compelling it cannot be ignored, then it is “fostering hate” and is removed. Being policed by the police is bad enough, being policed by tech companies controlled by extremist political movements, which aptly describes all Google and Facebook functions, redefines tyranny.

Night of the Living Dead (1968)
“Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold” -W.B. Yeats
The zombie that we know today, the decaying, slow-walking monster who wants to feast on our brains, is a relatively new version of the zombie. When zombies first made their way onto American movie screens, they weren’t travelling in cannibalistic hordes; they were mindless, subservient slaves. Their origins can be traced back to the American occupation of Haiti [1915 – 1934], where many of the marines stationed in Haiti would return to the United States with sensationalist accounts of Haitian voodoo practices — most notably the folkloric tradition of raising the dead into personal slaves by a sorcerer or bokor.
While Americans brought back a [misappropriated] idea of the zombie, it nevertheless struck a chord with depression-era society. The zombie is a creature that is consistently associated with labour; the zombie’s labour is its sole purpose as they are brought back from the dead as slaves dead to toil endlessly in fields and factories. The surplus of labour that encompassed the great-depression no doubt had striking similarities to the idea of a mindless zombie, performing alienating labour at the hands of wealthy landowners.
The first film to solidify this image was White Zombie (1932), starring Bela Lugosi as the antagonist Murder Legendre, a wealthy Haitian factory owner who raises the dead to slave at his sugar cane factory. The scene in which the protagonist first visits the factory illustrates, in a depressing parable, the physical embodiment of assembly lines of workers — the zombies are no more than mindless cogs performing monotonous labour. The camera lingers for several minutes in a long take on this scene, capturing its dreariness and eerie familiarity.
“They work faithfully,” says a stoic Lugosi. “And they do not worry about long hours.” This echoes the sentiments of the depression-era bosses who took advantage of the economic crisis to bind desperate unemployed people to poor working conditions and long hours. And at this time, labour struggles were intensifying alongside rapidly expanding union membership in an attempt to fight this phenomenon.
The fate of the zombie is a stolen consciousness and livelihood, or spiritual connection to their labour, by another (the bosses/voodoo masters). As Peter Dendle says, zombification is the logical conclusion of human reductionism; it is to reduce a person to a body, to reduce behavior to basic motor functions and to reduce social utility to raw labour. It is the displacement of one’s right to experience life, spirit, passion, autonomy, and creativity for another person’s exploitative gain.
During the ‘30s and ‘40s, the zombie also served as a parable for the plight of women in patriarchal society. Zombie movies consistently depicted undead, zombified women who were subservient to a domineering male [I Walked with a Zombie, 1943]
In the ‘50s, zombies are taken away from “exotic” landscapes and find a home in middle class America. The zombies are mindless victims of an unseen external force that forces everyday people to turn on each other [Invasion of the Body Snatchers, 1956]. Many readings of these films suggest a clear relationship to the looming threat of a communist invasion, essentially rendering American individualism into a mindless hoard of red zombies. But it also marks the first time that the zombies became a threat to American society, assuming their role as the dangerous “other.” This is the continued essence of the zombie to this day.
Zombies are a significant symbol in popular culture. As cultural objects, they reveal and reflect their social context through their position as the other. Anything “otherized”— feared, marginalized, or repressed—will find its way into the construction of zombies. Zombies are a barometer of which we can use to observe the collective anxieties and fears of any period or society.
This brings us to Romero’s zombie in Night of the Living Dead, the film that transformed zombies into cannibalistic ghouls that travel in hordes and turn innocent people into their kind.
Romero shot Night of the Living Dead on a small budget with the cheapest film possible: black and white 33m film. The idea came from a short story Romero wrote in college called “Anubis,” which he called an “allegory about what happens when a new society—in this case hordes of the living dead hungry for human flesh—replaces the old order.” Another economical factor was the decision to film at an abandoned farm house in Evans City, Pennsylvania.
Over two hundred and fifty extras were cast as zombies; they used chocolate Bosco syrup for blood and mortician’s wax for the decaying flesh wounds on the zombies. One of the extras owned a meat shop, and he gave Romero pounds of meat and innards to use as human guts. The scenes where the zombies feed on human flesh look so realistic because the extras were actually eating animal innards.
Romero’s zombies can be read in many ways, but the focus of the film has much more to do with how living humans react to a society on the verge of collapse. Its temporal urgency has both a narrative function and a psychological function; it takes place in the span of one day, giving it a true-to-life feel and a terrifying warning of just how quickly we can be engulfed by disaster. Romero’s conception of a contagious, cannibalistic zombie horde uniquely manifests modern apprehensions about the horrors of the Vietnam War, the struggles of the civil rights movement, and a questioning of patriotic American exceptionalism. The first scene at the graveyard has a fluttering American flag in the foreground, which represents the meaningless of patriotism as a moral compass at a time of social decay.
Only two minutes into the film, Romero introduces audiences to the new American zombie. Almost immediately after the infamous line: “they’re coming to get you Barbara,” a lone zombie appears in the graveyard and kills the protagonist Barbara’s brother Johnny. As we find out with this swift, senseless killing, the zombies cannot be reasoned with or dissuaded by logical discourse. The rationalized, civilized “morals” of America are not enough to suppress a full blown epidemic.
Just as the early enslaved zombie resonated with recession-era America, the infected decaying zombie struck a chord with Vietnam-era America. Graphic images of death and decay by photojournalists were surfacing, and the senselessness of war was stirring anger and hopelessness. Romero suggests the destruction of America is brought on by its own ruthless ventures, and it cannot be sustained by its faulty moralizing and patriotism. The dog eat dog nature of survival apocalypse is not a dismal diagnoses of human nature, but a forecast of how Americans will be left scrambling to rationalize their own survival as their moral code is rendered useless.
Romero is justifiably pessimistic in his vision of America under crisis. He suggests, and rightly so, that on the verge of collapse, the lack of solidarity caused by an alienating system rife with racism and misogyny is the ultimate damnation of humankind.
In 1964, after Kennedy was shot, president Lyndon B. Johnson declared that he would make the United Sates into a “great society,” where racial injustice and poverty had no place. But the civil rights act and the voting rights act did little to erase racism and poverty, and the Vietnam War raged on, plucking working-class blacks and whites from their communities and sending them off to die. Mass dissatisfaction — and the realization that “the great society” was nothing more than an empty echo — gave way to the radical anti-war movements and the black power movements. Still, Americans were divided on how to fix the crises their country was facing. What they did know, however, was that something was horrifically wrong.
If only the living could work together, it seems that the zombies would be easy to control. But the living can’t work together, Romero suggests. In Bowling Alone (a book I will frequently mention in my blogs), Robert Putnam notes that the proportion of Americans saying that most people can be trusted fell by more than a third between the 60s and the 90s. This was also a time when the nuclear family was turning inwards to an isolated unit preoccupied with post-war consumption.
By 1965, a majority of Americans made their homes in suburbs rather than cities. And through their greater access to home mortgages, credit, and tax advantages, men benefitted over women, whites over blacks, and middle-class Americans over working-class ones. White Americans more easily qualified for mortgages through discriminatory banking institutions, and more readily found suburban houses to buy than African Americans could.
As a result, a metropolitan landscape emerged where whole communities were increasingly being stratified along class and racial lines, while simultaneously, mass consumption was becoming commonplace in American society. Business leaders, the government, and advertisements and mass media were eager to convince Americans that mass consumption was not a personal indulgence, but a civic responsibility that was tied to standard of living.
In Night of the Living Dead, the house is no longer a home, but a site of entrapment and a prison—objects like the radio are no longer for entertainment, they are for survival. Doors, a symbolic device of many Hollywood films, are used as barricades on the windows. And just as objects are scrutinized for their utility (which can be read as a critique of the rising consumerism of post-war America) humans are reduced to their functionality and self-interest.
Gender roles and the subservience of women seems to only doom the people in the house even further. Barbara is reduced to a docile couch-ridden mute, and Helen Cooper has little say in her husband’s destructive decisions. Barbara’s clear lack of distrust for Ben (illustrated in the scene where she stares ambiguously at the knife) is also a hindrance on their mutual survival.
Romero also takes a jab at the insular nuclear family as an institution that cannot survive, and he illustrates this with the scene in which the young daughter eats her parents (Harry and Helen Cooper). In most horror films, the family is usually the prevailing site of the restoration of order, but Romero blatantly rejects the bourgeois notion of family as a site of mutual respect and meaningful existence.
And through the deaths of Barbara and her brother Johnny, we learn that being altruistic and good offers little redemption. Both characters die in their attempts to help another person. Individual acts of goodness, as well-meaning as possible, do little to save humanity. The character Ben (not quite Hollywood’s idea of “the good black man”) despite his noble actions, still meets his demise at the refusal of the white men to cooperate with him. In the scene where Ben first meets Harry Cooper, a middle-aged white man who is hiding his family in the cellar, Ben and Cooper argue over whether the cellar is the safest place in the house. Cooper insists the cellar is the safest place, while Ben argues that it is a death trap. The two men never reach a consensus, and this tension reflects the very real lack of consensus with Americans on how to address the political and economic crises of the ‘60s. A young black man, who simply wants to survive a crisis, arguing with an older white man is a perfect cinematic snapshot of racial tensions in the United States. The tension eventually blows up when Ben shoots Cooper.
When Ben recounts his first encounter with the zombies, the manner in which he reminisces about the situation evokes a pain that is clearly very real with the actor Duane Jones, and can draw a parable to the racist mob riots and even the violent police reaction to anti-war riots and civil rights riots of the ‘60s—especially the Watts riot in 1965, where 34 people were killed after the California National Guard was called in to quell the riots.
The emotional reminiscence of Ben casts a solemn mood and leaves room for reflection of the horrific state of American society. Romero prompts audiences to think of how America can continue to exist as it is, especially during wartime as it campaigns as the champion of the free world. The characters on screen undoubtedly feel this sense of doom.
Jones’ performance as Ben quickly draws in the audience’s sympathy. The look on Ben’s face immediately after he shoots Cooper quickly changes from satisfaction to pained. This self-realization encapsulates the major theme—the zombies are not the enemy; rather, the people have become their own enemies. With a lack of solidarity, there is no plausible way for humanity to survive the crisis. In the end, when Ben emerges from the dark cellar as the lone survivor, he is shot point blank by a posse of gun-toting vigilante rednecks. Following Ben’s death is a montage of still frames of Ben’s body being dragged by meat hooks into a pile of bodies that are light on fire—a scene reminiscent of the lynchings and racist violence of the Jim Crow era.
By this point, it is clear who the real monsters are. Unlike most horror films, there is no return to order. Order was disrupted almost immediately at the beginning of the film, and the audience does not get to see that same sense of order returned. On a superficial level, order is restored by the men who shoot and kill Ben, but the audience knows that this order has been achieved at the cost of an innocent man’s life.
The return to order in apocalyptic horror films, or any horror film, suggests a major obsession with the need to be constantly reassured about the strength of the status quo. For a while, horror films in the ‘40s and ‘50s had to have an ending that indicated a restoration of order. But a progressive director can suggest the fragility of the status quo. And this is exactly what Romero does.

Hyperallergic: Banned Horror Comics Rise from the Dead
Four Color Fear: Forgotten Horror Comics of the 1950s (all images courtesy of Fantagraphics Books)
The charges that Fredric Wertham made in 1954’s Seduction of the Innocent: The Influence of Comic Books on Today’s Youth — that a relationship existed between comics reading and “violent forms of juvenile delinquency” — didn’t materialize out of thin air. The oft-vilified German-born American psychiatrist gets a lot of credit for a censorship campaign that had legs long before his articles and book were pinned to it. Critics and clergymen were blasting all kinds of comics as “objectionable” for years, singling out depictions of gun violence, gore, and a broad range of fare they deemed offensive. Church bulletins and hyperbolic magazine features laid the groundwork for a national panic over comics, but the war on the medium gained steam in postwar America, just as some comics became increasingly violent and grim.
“The debate over comic books hopped from the back of the newspaper to the front, section by section — from the book reviews and religious columns to the ‘women’s’ department to the hard-news pages,” writes David Hadju in The Ten-Cent Plague: The Great Comic-Book Scare and How It Changed America. Ordinances criminalized newsstand comics sales in the late 1940s in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and more. “Comic Books Banned in Detroit as ‘Corrupting'” blared a headline in The Washington Post in 1948, when somewhere between 80 and 100 million comics were being sold monthly.
Wertham scored a seat before the Senate Subcommittee Hearings into Juvenile Delinquency in April 1954. When governmental regulation loomed, the self-regulatory Comics Code Authority emerged that fall. A problematic and sweeping set of vanilla rules instituted to police comics’ subject matter and art, the Code sank publishers and killed off the kind of crime and horror books for which readers crowded newsstands. Hadju reports that by the early “pre-Code” 1950s, horror comics in particular had grown “ever more gruesome and lurid.” And they were everywhere.
“By the end of 1952,” he writes, “nearly one-third of all the comics on the newsstands were devoted to the macabre.”
From Four Color Fear: Forgotten Horror Comics of the 1950s
Swamp creatures and animated but still-rotting corpses swarm the 40 stories collected in the new edition of Four Color Fear: Forgotten Horror Comics of the 1950s, a survey of grisly pre-Code comics that hasn’t been in circulation since 2011. While reprints of the prestigious and oft-imitated EC Comics titles over the years have cemented a sterling reputation for series like Tales from the Crypt, scholars Greg Sadowski and John Benson mine less-well-known ten-cent anthologies like Black Magic, Weird Adventures, and more, heralding a time when cheap four-color printing processes meant that an easily reproducible palette would be manufactured from hand-separated colors. These comics feel like dessert, and they should. Benson, an EC aficionado with his own fanzine to prove it, suggests we make-believe we’re adolescents of the era, “reading these stories slowly to savor every chilling moment.”
Yarns excerpted from Beware Terror Tales and others will read like nonsense to most folk. Their smudgy aesthetic will confound today’s devotees of Marvel’s digitally polished relaunches, too, while racist caricatures like the brown-skinned people and Haitian “voodoo” in 1952’s “Drum of Doom” haven’t aged well, either. But for every predictable zombie plot, there is a hallucinatory murder mystery like “Colorama,” penciled by artist Bob Powell in 1953.
Authored by Harvey Comics editor and admitted EC fan Sid Jacobson (who reportedly directed Chamber of Chills artist Howard Nostrand to just “copy” the work of EC’s illustrators), “Colorama” has Powell playing generously with perspective and color. The direction is clever for a disorienting first-person narrative about a colorblind killer, in which the cosmic swirls representing his protagonist’s blurred vision bump up against Powell’s realist urban backdrops and assured landscape drawing. Elsewhere, MAD cartoonist Basil Wolverton, whose absurdist productions had a clear impact on underground comix artists, crafts nasty bald-headed gargoyles for Weird Tales of the Future, their leathery olive-green skin flecked with innumerable short dashes that lend a convincing illusion of ripples of movement.
From Four Color Fear: Forgotten Horror Comics of the 1950s
Ludicrous storylines aside, Four Color Fear‘s selection and archival research add critical context to a fascinating age for comics in North America. Benson’s insights reveal that the book’s frequent nondescript Iger Studio credit (an outfit founded by Will Eisner and Samuel “Jerry” Iger) likely refers to the sole work of an editorial powerhouse named Ruth Roche, who cranked out horror scripts and lots more for the publisher. Roche’s framework subsequently went to pencilers and inkers like New Jersey–born artist Jay Disbrow.
In an interview with publisher Craig Yoe that prefaces Jay Disbrow’s Monster Invasion, Disbrow connects his comics career to a consumption of Sunday supplements as a kid and remembers tiring of commuting from Asbury Park into Manhattan for inking and penciling gigs at Iger in his 20s. After a year, Disbrow traded up for freelance assignments as a writer, artist, inker, and letterer of horror and romance for Star Publications editor Leonard “L.B.” Cole. Jay Disbrow’s Monster Invasion culls mostly from this pre-Code horror work, specifically the creature-centric stories he did for supernatural- and suspense-themed anthologies Ghostly Weird Stories, Blue Bolt Weird Tales of Terror, and more.
“Cole wanted ghost stories,” explains Disbrow of his Star comics tenure. “I said to him, ‘That doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. What we oughta be doing is monster stories!'”
Jay Disbrow’s Monster Invasion images( © 2017 Gussoni-Yoe Studio, Inc.)
There’s no supplementary material aside from the interview here, and unforgivable book design decisions give way to tacky fonts and fake blood splotches in the margins. But Jay Disbrow’s Monster Invasion adds weight to the legacy of an artist best known for “jungle comics,” science fiction such as The Flames of Gyro, and the gorgeous, full-color “syndicate-type” webcomic called Aroc of Zenith that he started in his 70s.
Like a lot of Golden Age creators, Disbrow could’ve used a watchful editor. Loads of copy swallows up word balloons and captions, and lines and lines of the artist’s hand-lettered text are given little room for legibility. His figure drawing needed practice, too. The often wooden movements and overlong, flat-looking limbs rendered his humans even less likely to succeed in battle with the monsters he loved to draw. But the inventive layouts, sinister terror, and wealth of beasts here are things of beauty.
Jay Disbrow’s Monster Invasion images (© 2017 Gussoni-Yoe Studio, Inc.)
Panels dart inward at strange angles in “A Stony Death,” allowing for worming gutters and the provocative inclusion of an odd center panel. “The Ghoul of the North,” like every creature here, is enormous amid puny mortals. Giant fanged ogres from “the bowels of the earth” terrorize a novelist in “The Insider,” while a red-eyed specter towers over his prey in “The Unknown Presence.” Cinematic shadows blanket caverns and crime scenes, and action bursts out from under audacious type in title-page headers as graphic design and vintage movie posters figure into these pages as frequently as Alex Raymond’s Flash Gordon strips do. Disbrow’s action sequences are explosive, with hulking abominations reaching out from the back corner of a panel toward a helpless character in the foreground. All of your pre-Code goods are here: blood and guns and tentacles and stranglings and hell demons.
And then … nothing.
Fredric Wertham took aim at Star’s Spook and more in his book, and the company shuttered shortly after the Senate Subcommittee hearings on comics. In Disbrow’s talk with Yoe, he recalls the “comic book crash of 1954,” owing to the good Christians who gathered around bonfires to torch comics in Wisconsin and New York, and the tarring of publishers as Communists and smut peddlers. Although University of Illinois professor Carol Tilley would find that Wertham’s “research” relied on omissions and manipulated data, the campaign to censor comics took a terrible toll on the industry. Awash in publicity, the hearings and resulting Comics Code effectively crippled then-thriving studios. Publishers killed titles deemed disagreeable and sent their staff home. There were other factors, but suddenly, hundreds of comics professionals in the late 1950s would never work in the medium again.
“Unlike their rough counterparts in the Red Scare, the artists and writers caught up in the comic-book controversy were never charged with espionage, treason, contempt of Congress or court, or obstruction of justice,” writes Hadju in The Ten-Cent Plague. “What they did was tell outrageous stories in cartoon pictures, a fact that makes their struggle and their downfall all the more strange and sad.”

REMINDER: FICS DUE TOMORROW!
SUBMISSIONS DUE TOMORROW, AUGUST 26TH!!
Art and Fics Due - August 26th, 11:59 PM (Midnight) PST (here is a timezone converter.) ~ Guys, we are ALMOST THERE! We are so excited to see what you all have created and can't wait to share it with everyone! In case you need a hand with posting or last minute questions... Here's a rundown on how to post your final works to this year's AO3 Collection: POSTING REQUIREMENTS Where do we post our completed fics? We are using AO3 collections, with the deadline for submission as August 26th, and the reveal date of August 31st. You can post them up early!! Post them up now, if you want! You can also post your fics anywhere else you like, just don't post them anywhere before the Debut Date. Everyone who has signed up for this challenge should have an AO3 account, but if you don't, you can still sign up. You can ask a friend for an invite code, or you can request from A03 here or at ao3_invitecodes. If you are unfamiliar with it, here is the FAQ of AO3. Do not publish your fic for everyone to see at AO3. Instead, submit it for our 2017 collection.
(The pics used are for the old 2012 submissions, but just mentally adjust for 2017.) 1. Sign up for A03. You can ask a friend for an invite code, or you can request from A03 here or at ao3_invitecodes. 2. DO NOT POST YOUR FICS/ARTS SO THAT THE GENERAL PUBLIC CAN SEE THEM. Double check after posting to make sure it doesn't get posted to the general audience. If it does, delete the work and start over. Instead, you need to allow the mods to collect your fic/arts so that we can reveal everything together on August 31st. Go here, to the 2017 Het Big Bang Collection, and go the "Post to Collection" button in the top right corner. 3. In the third block, for "Associations" make sure the line for "Post to Collections/Challenges" lists "Het_Big_Little_Bang_Challenge_2017." 3a.
You can find details here: Het Big/Little Bang Challenge 2016"
Also, a few years ago, anr was a saint and provided you with a post that explained "how to format a fic for posting in less than 30 seconds no matter the story length or amount of formatting" trick.
Once the Big Bang collection goes live on August 31, feel free to post your stuff wherever. Also, please remember that extensions for final fic and art submissions will not be granted. Please make sure your stories and art are submitted no later than August 26th. If you absolutely cannot make it, contact a mod immediately - either via email at thehetbigbang [at] gmail.com, or on the Page-A-Mod post, or PM red_b_rackham or traycer_. Lastly, remember if you need some to cry, scream, flail, yell triumphantly, encourage, cheerlead, etc, don't hesitate to check out the support comm and throw up some posts for each other! (I likely will be coming by later do the annual flailing gif post. ;D)
