Does hachikō still speak octopus language I forgot what it’s called oops and also has he tried to teach slick how to speak it?

Hachikō can still speak Octarian, and sounds a lot more ‘casual’ speaking his native tongue than he does speaking Inkling. It often comes out when he’s frustrated or confused about something, and he speaks it very fast (at least compared to his Inkling). He almost always cussed in octarian just out of habit. When he was first learning more conversational inkling on the surface, he sometimes spoke in a sort of pidgin of Inkling and Octarian to try and communicate despite not knowing certain words yet.

Slick hasn’t asked about it (in fact, he had no idea Octarians had a separate language at all), before he knew Hachi was an Octoling, he assumed he spoke gibberish when angry. However, he has tried to teach some words to Roxanne, even if it’s by accident. She knows a few words, and is hoping to at least learn enough to communicate to the new surface-dwelling octolings effectively. Kieren doesn’t speak inkling too well, so he speaks almost exclusively octarian with him, but he also tries to teach him some inkling too.

Slick is very social, and loves to talk to people. He wants to be friends with everyone, essentially. He will strike up any conversation if you let him, and he’ll be willing to listen and go back and forth, or he might think you’re listening and keep going on and on about some fantastic achievement he did and is super proud of, meanwhile you’re there and completely dead-silent. He might just assume silence is awe (anything to feed his ego). Mochi is talkative when she wants to be, but usually requires someone else to initiate. She’s not the type to walk up to a stranger and strike up a conversation, in fact she’s kinda weary of people she doesn’t know. Friends she can babble away with almost endlessly. Ask her about stuff she likes, ask for advice, ask her opinions, she’ll tell you, and passionately. She can be quite vocal when it comes to defending her beliefs, and she can rant on and on for hours about whatever stupid thing is on her mind and why it’s there.

Hachikō is extremely cautious and shy around new people, and usually is completely silent unless asked a question, sometimes even if he is asked one. He doesn’t mean to be rude, he just can’t talk fantastic when nervous, he gets super stiff and flat-toned. Sometimes he stutters and replaces some words with noises. It’s not uncommon for him to mispronounce or forget some Inklish words, but he’s extremely fluent. He’s not super talkative by default, but if you ask him about an interest of his, he can babble on and on for upwards of an hour about it. Usually you can tell how engaged he is in a conversation by how his head tentacle is moving, if it’s wagging or curled he’s probably excited about whatever’s being spoken of. Even ignoring that, usually he starts rubbing his knuckles together when giddy.

Roxanne is also social, like Slick, but she also can know when conversations need to be cut short for serious matters. She can give passionate ballads about things she enjoys, or short, quick, uninteresting summaries. If a friend is in need, she will talk with them all hours of the night to make sure they’re okay, neglecting herself in the process. She doesn’t like being alone often and likes to talk with people to pass time.

Kieren is better at being a listener than a talker. He’s there to give advice or be a free ear, he’s not fantastic and coming up with things to speak of on his own time. He prefers to hear about Kōri’s day than speak of his own. His life is pretty uninteresting, but he likes it that way.

Gabriel never shuts up, but is extremely friendly. You will never have a moment of complete silence with him, though. Javier has average conversation levels. Rio is extremely shy and barely opens up to anyone, and it’s hard for her to because of Raina pushing everyone she meets away. She opens up to Mochi because she thinks Mochi is cool (and might have a crush too…).

Raina only speaks in angry quips and threats. She parts her lips only to yell and scare everyone away from her and her sister. To Rio, she tries to speak softly, being reassuring, but sometimes she finds she can’t.

HEY KIEREN!!! yeah im alright im working now (20hours a week)(standing job)(my ankles are weak and my feet are sore) so im in a bit of a lull period for fun or cool things rn... my big hobby is laying down softly and thinking of on stage dramatics for my oc band Girl+Dog which is a collaborative duo who's kind of mostly an excuse for me to take an middle aged man (possibly, a butch possibly a trans man god idk ive got the look down but not the identity and thats kind of his vibe like he doesnt care to know either) and dress him in leather and slut him out... imagine if you will a guitarist and he's playing fucking ball and biscuit by the white stripes and he's in leather pants with cigarette burns in them and is wearing a real cast iron wolf collar and it's actively leaving bruises on his neck and getting pushed around on stage by a much younger costar who he kind of helped make in the music industry but now the dynamic between them is shifting from mentor/mentee to Something Else, bc she is actively the one controlling and dictating all of these on stage theatrics lik That's Her Special Interest and before this collab he had always been a Behind The Scenes musician and now she's literally dragging him into a spotlight and making his image in service to her own and so there's a lot of violence and discomfort but also intense trust and respect there.... yeah that's what i think about rn it's kind of just that

Happy STS! What do your characters do in their downtime, when they need a break, or finally get a chance to chill when the Plot isn't happening to them?

Guin spends a lot of her free time either drawing or making pottery. She finds it easier to express herself through her art, and her work helps bring her a sense of calm after particularly stressful days, as she doesn't have to mask when alone in her studio. She also enjoys reading books.

Theo likes to practice his swordsmanship during his downtime, as it takes his mind off things for a bit while also ensuring that he stays in shape. He enjoys spending time caring for his horse, Philip, as well and will talk to him in order to help process his thoughts.

Radan is a bookworm, so he can often be found with his nose in a book. Reading has served as an escape for him since a young age. He also enjoys drawing on occasion, a hobby which is kept much more private. Radan mostly tends to sketch the plants and animals of the places he's been to, but in later years, Vietna's face also appears on the pages of his sketchbooks.

Theodore, from the World of Skies universe

He was born on October 7th, but since his human parents didn't know his exact age, they chose to celebrate his birth on the day they adopted him (which was the 10th).

He became a squire at age fourteen to Arrya Rose Blackburn, a knight-errant with mysterious origins but one of the best sword fighters of the era.

Whilst under the tutelage of Arrya, he rescued a chestnut colored horse with a white star on its forehead that he later named Philip. The two formed a very close bond because of this, and Theo will even talk to him when he believes they're all alone (though Kieren has accidentally overheard an a couple of occasions).

He never learned how to swim and therefore is a little unsettled by big bodies of water.

Rambling about how my characters talk for whatever reason

Slick and Mochi are from an entirely different continent than Inkadia, so they have a small accent. Whenever I write dialogue for them, I try and portray it and a bit of unique dialect other characters don’t possess. Mochi and Slick are the only characters that say ain’t, dude, or bro, and certain words like doing have a minor alteration by removing the g, making it doin’. I don’t know what their equivalent of an accent would be in English, because they’re funny squid people speaking gargly squid Japanese gibberish, but it’s not a huge deal.

Hachikō sometimes cannot help adding small comments into his speech when he’s thinking. It’d probably be portrayed either with parentheses or dashes to show breaks in his line of speech. Sometimes he’ll trail off and forget he’s supposed to be talking and just think to himself. When he’s responding to conversations, he doesn’t often remember to make vocalizations of acknowledgement, instead silently nodding and squinting his eyes. Sometimes he turns his head to hear people better, he hopes people won’t think he’s trying to ignore them. Sometimes he makes small “heh” noises between sentences when he’s uncomfortable or trying to seem enthused.

Kieren and Kōri are both pretty soft spoken, but speak in different ways. Kieren has a voice smooth like butter, and his words kinda trickle out like a small stream. He doesn’t raise his voice very often at all, when he does, usually something is very wrong. Kōri speaks very fast, he likes to quickly tell information. He’s excitable and will tell you an entire novel if he’s up for it. He actually slows down a bit when speaking to Kieren, not because he thinks he won’t understand, but rather trying to mimic him subconsciously. Unlike Kieren, Kōri can get pretty loud when he’s genuinely happy. (In a weird way, I think he might talk in a similar way to a friend of mine).

Also the proneness-to-cussing for each character to different. Mochi, Slick, and Javier are probably most prone to cuss. Those three are prone to getting enraged enough to swear their hearts out, especially out of frustration for losing or things not going their way. Least likely to cuss? Quincy and Rio, one’s selectively mute and the other is too shy and polite to allow herself to swear (also not wanting to upset her sister). Raina, despite being prone to irrational amounts of anger, does not swear often at all, instead wanting to have sharp, jabbing insults.

Funny you ask that, considering that one Splatoon AU (dubbed “Clatter”) I’ve had since… before I even bought Splatoon. Credit to ChubbiDust for the concept (although they’re apparently not too thrilled with the idea anymore :/), as I saw it and latched onto it. Fun fact: almost all of my Splatoon characters were originally made for Clatter, then reverse-engineered to be placed in the vanilla game world.

In Clatter, the first to get bit was Slick, in fact he has a depressingly short amount of screen time. Kinda sad, because I think he’d be super fun to write for in this type of setting. So, I suppose in an AU of an AU, he doesn’t end up being the first to be angrily nibbled. In that scenario, he’d survive off dumb luck and whomever he was with. He’s got no survival skills, but he sure is good at being able to break into places, and keeping things light.

Mochi is the protagonist of Clatter, so survives quite awhile. She’d probably find any way to avoid exiting a safe space, even if it means surviving off food scraps and unclean water. She admittedly would probably not take the apocalypse well, but if I got into details it might be kinda bad. She’d probably be useful for planning, thinking of escape routes, rationing supplies evenly, and being quite convincing in several realms. Her aggression and protectiveness also show off other strengths. Her issues are her lack of communication, not thinking many things through, and troubled headspace.

Hachikō would probably be extremely paranoid, but able to fare in combat. He could modify his Octobrush to do more physical than ink-based damage, maybe making a hacked-together amalgamation of bird spikes, take heads, and other objects to attach to the rims, and smack things beside the head with. He’d probably need some sort of group, though. As shy and asocial as he is, there’s safety in numbers, and he knows this. He’d likely be helpful regarding plans as well, able to think of multiple possible situations, and each and every way any decision could swing it. His knowledge of weaponry would also help with… well, weapons. His inherent anxious nature would probably make him paranoid and restless; on edge and too tired to think straight. In trying to not be a bother, he may neglect his needs, which helps no one.

Raina would be scarily good at survival, but also would not hesitate to raid people. She can and would use her combat skills for intimidation and to rob fellow survivors for the sake of her and her sister. She’d ensure Rio’s safety with her life, but both sisters know Rio wouldn’t survive on her own.

Javier would be well-off as well, but not as prone to raid living people. The dead and abandoned are free game, however. Most of his supplies were from nearby houses and empty supermarkets. Gabriel has zero survival skills, and would be picked off despite how much he wants to believe he’s capable of fending for himself. Javier would likely be deep in denial had Gabriel gotten bit, assuring that things will be fine, even when things clearly aren’t.

Kieren would likely try and group up with people, just trying to get by. He’s a little helpful dealing with minor injuries, thanks to Kōri teaching a few techniques to him. Kōri himself, though? He probably wouldn’t be there anymore…

Roxanne would be well versed in medical knowledge and some bit of combat, so likely well-off to some degree. She’d probably start using her hair tentacles as food, cutting them into slices until they’re too short to do that to anymore. She’d probably worry about her friends, if they’re okay, where they are, and things of that sort. Sometimes to make herself feel better, she might pretend they were there, thinking of all the talks she could have if she finds them again.

Quincy was originally a Clatter-exclusive character, only recently did he become canon to the vanilla universe. He was a wandering soul, trying to be of help to anyone he can find. He never sticks with groups too long, but doesn’t mind traveling with the same person/people more than once. He often finds and pairs up with Roxanne for a few days at a time, before wandering off into the wastes again. He doesn’t speak, but he’s made himself known in this new world.

89%. Has anyone ever saved their life? Who and what happened?

Theodore had plenty of near-death experiences during his origin life, but he was saved from the worst one by the combined efforts of Kieren, Guinevere, and Alden. Long story short: he was wounded in battle by a poisoned weapon. Guin happened to be passing by at the time (she was on her way to deliver a message), and Kieren convinced her to help out. Although she was unable help much as a healer (it takes a skilled medic to actually remove the poison), she was able to keep Theo alive long enough until one arrived, and pointed Kieren in the direction of her friend Alden who was a medic. Philip (Theo's horse) also helped out technically, as he was Kieren's ride over to Alden since his own horse was injured at the time.

Slick, Roxanne, Kōri, and Gabriel like Splatmas/Squidmas. All appreciate different aspects of it, however. Slick likes gifts, the typical colors (green, red, gold), and snow ; Roxanne appreciates the familial bonding and coziness the colder weather brings ; Kōri likes the music, festivities, decorations, and frequent sparkly items ; Gabriel is easy to please and only cares about the presents.

Mochi, Quincy, and Hachikō like Splatoween. Mochi and Quincy love the “spooky” atmosphere and decor. Mochi likes the excuse to scare people and dress up. Hachikō’s first holiday upon reaching the surface was Splatoween, so he has a soft spot for it. He also likes drawing creepy things and picking apart horror media and appreciating the genre as a whole. He also liked having an excuse to wear a mask, he didn’t have to worry about what his face was doing or how bright things were that way (he also has bad allergies around autumn, so he can breathe). Kieren, Raina, Rio, and Lily celebrate Octivus, a lesser-known octarian holiday. It’s similar to Splatmas, but could be seen as “duller” by inkling standards. The minimalism is appreciated by octarian people, however.
