| HIDDEN | The manmade skylines can be lofty enough piercing through the sky but they haven't yet kissed the moon. Hidden amidst of the progressive skyline of Mumbai, Khotachiwadi is a heritage village in Girgaon. This small colony within the busy world finds its way to be uniquely attractive to any wanderer like me. With a completely different sense of housing and architecture, the locale as a whole is something worth preserving. But the word 'heritage' may turn out be another hazard to its protected culture. Organic lanes with houses reflecting Goan style of architecture in them narrates a completely different story of their very original existence. The crisis of being noticed to the city lime light makes it a less known subject of discussion. Image 1- Moon before sunset seen overhead in between the irregular silhouette of cantilevers balconies of opposite houses aside of lane. There’s a new vintage store in Mumbai and it’s a must-visit
The long weekend is here, and with that, a slew of calendar commitments penciled in your diaries. But in the midst of relaxation and Easter weekend celebrations, make sure to take a moment out for a visit to No Borders—a vintage shop nestled in designer James Ferreira’s 200-year-old bungalow. In the meandering lanes of Khotachi Wadi, an other-worldly lazy colony in Mumbai, the shop curated by multi-hyphenate Kanika Karvinkop is a respite from the fast pace of fashion and city life.
No Borders houses vintage pieces from around the world (read: a Dior borrowed-from-the-boys jacket from the ’80s and Alexander Wang’s black canvas mini dress circa 2000) mixed with current collections by Indian designers like International Woolmark Prize winner Ruchika Sachdeva of Bodice, Ekà and Péro by Aneeth Arora. But beyond the hand-me-down luxury staples, Karvinkop has managed to get her hands on collections by up and coming designers from Morocco, Ghana, Peru, Puerto Rico and art by emerging names like Ayqa Khan and Negine Jasmine. An upcoming collaboration for the store will see vintage Ralph Lauren, Dior and Levi’s denim jackets upcycled by Péro in a limited edition collection.
On her aim behind the store, she says, “No Borders is a concept store that focuses on diversity in fashion, culture and art. I’m always inspired by designers who focus on their country’s heritage and use indigenous textiles. I spend a lot of time picking, choosing and curating artists that I like and think fit the ethos of the store. We focus on designers’ stories, the people they work with and their backstory.” On choosing a 200-year-old bungalow as the location she says, “The space is timeless, much like the clothes that reside in it. It’s a complete misfit in the 21th century, but in a good way.”
For anyone interested in a visceral connection to clothes, head over here for nostalgic garments laden with wearers’ stories. Here, founder Kanika Karvinkop shares her top four picks from the newly-opened store.

Knobbly Jewellery
“Knobbly and Luiny are two jewellery brands I really like right now. Knobbly is based in Jaffa Israel. She’s inspired by women’s bodies and movements. While, Luiny is so easy to wear and effortless, making it perfect for summer.”

Embroideries by Nejine Jasmine
“I love how Nejine tells stories through embroideries. She’s inspired by tales and memories of her parents and grandparents in Afghanistan. Her aim is to provide representation to Afghan women. She did a really interesting series called ‘Burkha Babes’ and I have one that’s titled ‘Burkha Babe Riding Into the Sun’.

“This is the oldest piece in our store.”
