Jitu Rai (born 26 August 1987) is an Indian Army Subedar Major who competes in the 10 metre air pistol and 50 metre pistol events. The Government of India announced the Khel Ratna Award for him in 2016. In 2020, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri, the fourth highest civilian award in the Republic of India.

चैतन्य भारत न्यूज नई दिल्ली. केंद्र सरकार ने शुक्रवार को खेल से जुड़ा बड़ा फैसला लिया है। राजीव गांधी खेल रत्न पुरस्कार का नाम बदलकर इसे हॉकी के 'जादूगर' कहे जाने वाले मेजर ध्यानचंद खेल के नाम पर रखने का फैसला किया है। प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने शुक्रवार को ट्वीट कर इसकी जानकारी दी। पीएम मोदी ने इस फैसला का ऐलान करते हुए कहा कि ये अवॉर्ड हमारे देश की जनता की भावनाओं का सम्मान करेगा। I have been getting many requests from citizens across India to name the Khel Ratna Award after Major Dhyan Chand. Jai Hind! pic.twitter.com/zbStlMNHdq — Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) August 6, 2021 पीएम मोदी ने ट्वीट में लिखा, 'देश को गर्वित कर देने वाले पलों के बीच अनेक देशवासियों का ये आग्रह भी सामने आया है कि खेल रत्न पुरस्कार का नाम मेजर ध्यानचंद जी को समर्पित किया जाए। लोगों की भावनाओं को देखते हुए, इसका नाम अब मेजर ध्यानचंद खेल रत्न पुरस्कार किया जा रहा है।' प्रधानमंत्री मोदी ने कहा कि, टोक्यो ओलंपिक में भारतीय पुरुष और महिला हॉकी टीमों के प्रदर्शन ने पूरे देश को रोमांचित किया है। उन्होंने कहा कि अब हॉकी में लोगों की दिलचस्पी फिर से बढ़ी है जो आने वाले समय के लिए सकारात्मक संकेत है। खेल रत्न सम्मान के तहत 25 लाख रुपये नकद पुरस्कार दिया जाता है। ध्यानचंद का हॉकी में अविश्वसनीय योगदान हॉकी के 'जादूगर' कहे जाने वाले मेजर ध्यानचंद का हॉकी में अविश्वसनीय योगदान रहा है। उन्होंने अपने आखिरी ओलंपिक (बर्लिन 1936) में कुल 13 गोल दागे थे। इस तरह एम्स्टर्डम, लॉस एंजेलिस और बर्लिन ओलंपिक को मिलाकर ध्यानचंद ने कुल 39 गोल किए, जिससे उनके बेहतरीन प्रदर्शन का पता चलता है। उनके जन्मदिन (29 अगस्त) को भारत के राष्ट्रीय खेल दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाता है। इसी दिन हर साल खेल में उत्कृष्ट प्रदर्शन के लिए सर्वोच्च खेल सम्मान खेल रत्न के अलावा अर्जुन और द्रोणाचार्य पुरस्कार दिए जाते हैं। इस अवॉर्ड की शुरुआत 1991-92 में की गई थी। ध्यानचंद की उपलब्धियों का सफर भारतीय खेल इतिहास को गौरवान्वित करता है। लगातार तीन ओलंपिक (1928 एम्सटर्डम, 1932 लॉस एंजेलिस और 1936 बर्लिन) में भारत को हॉकी का स्वर्ण पदक दिलाने वाले ध्यानचंद के जीवट का हर कोई कायल रहा। Read the full article

Anju Bobby George

Anju Bobby George (born 19 April 1977) is a retired Indian athlete. She is India's first and only World Champion in the IAAF World Athletics Final. Anju Bobby George made history when she won the bronze medal in long jump at the 2003 World Championships in Athletics in Paris. With this achievement, she became the first Indian athlete ever to win a medal in a World Championships in Athletics jumping 6.70 m. She went on to win the gold medal at the IAAF World Athletics Final (a competition between best eight athletes in the world based on the world ranking) in 2005, a performance she considers her best. Anju was upgraded to the gold status from silver in the 2005 World Athletics Final in Monte Carlo following the disqualification of Tatyana Kotova of Russia by the International Association of Athletics Federations, following the recent re-testing of the latter's sample collected at the 2005 World Championship in Helsinki. She was awarded the Arjuna Award in 2002, Khel Ratna in 2003 and Padma Shri in 2004. She had got 5th position with personal best score of 6.83 at the 2004 Athens Olympics. In March 2021, Anju won the BBC lifetime achievement award for best athlete in India.
