It-Girl Hairstyles #1: Keyshia Ka’oir’s Mohawk.

Standing at 5 feet & 6 inches, this Jamaican beauty caught the attention of many when she made her debut appearance in Timbaland’s ‘Say Something’ music video back in 2009. Her edgy but gorgeous hairstyle was one that lived in my mind rent-free and also set a new fashion trend in just about every inner city in the United States. This hairdo was one of many that singlehandedly defined the early 2010s era (at least for me) and I’d be a liar to deny the impact women such as Keyshia had on a young impressionable teen such as myself during that time.

Dior Ashley Brown is a Multifaceted Performing Artist, Owner of Unique Extremes, LLC (A Creative Project Management Company), and Co-Founder of the DC Music Summit and REformance Art. Her disciplines include Hip-Hop Emcee, Actor, Poet, Host. A graduate of Duke Ellington School of the Performing Arts and University of Maryland Theatre Arts Programs.  A 2016 Maryland State Arts Council Individual Awardee.   Professional Actor for YPT (Young Playwrights Theatre).  Host “Dabbington Love” of the “BoxCutters Podcast,” broadcasting from One Love Massive Studios. Celebrity Interviewer for the Historic Howard Theatre to Include: De La Soul, Marsha Ambrosius, Curren$y, Charlie Murphy, Raheem DeVaughn and others. And performs often as “Dior Ashley Brown & The dAb Band,” with fellow Duke Ellington Graduate Turk Gaines on keys, Duke Ellington Graduate David Suggs on drums, and James McCreavy on bass. She is a lover of life, community curator, and a driven humanitarian.

Dior has been consistent with maintaining Hip-Hop soul, poetry, and theatre conjoined in her live performances since she was a young child. She continues to produce dynamic work that reflects her ever-changing community and challenged surroundings. Using Hip-Hop and poetry at her basis she speaks to empower young and old women and men of Color, with inspiring language, her awareness of self, creative melody, and with an exhibition of strength and confidence.

Dior is a passionate humanitarian, constantly participating and creating ways to inform and involve her community. Her most recent accomplishments include: Paneling the “Diggin’ DC” Hip Hop Theatre Festival at The Arc Theatre, Subversive Artists Hip Hop Panel and first two years of “The Annual Black Theatre Symposium” At University of Maryland, College Park; debuting in the theatre production “It’s What We Do,” directed by Pamela Nice a play based on IDF soldiers testimonies in the Israeli/Palestinian conflict as part of the 2015 Capital Fringe Festival, award “Best Drama Audience Award,” and “Best of 2015 Fringe,” after several sold-out performances; Hosting the 2015 Annual Ward 7 Business and Community Festival; Co-Organizing, Co-Hosting, and Co-Curating in conjunction with Accelerate with Google, The First and 2nd Annual DC Music Summits 2016 and 2017, both successful and greatly attended by 300 plus participants from the local DMV arts community and paneled by experts such as: Chris Naoum, Founder, of Listen Local First, Rich Shelton, Songwriter/Producer, for artists including: Mya, Keyshia Cole, and Amerie, Chris Richards, Pop Music Critic, of The Washington Post, Alexis Kimbrough, CEO/Founder, of The Growth Group, and Casey Rae, CEO, of the Future of Music Coalition; She traveled to SXSW 2016 in Austin, Texas to one of the largest musical conferences in the country raising money as an Ambassador to represent her underground creative community;  Her most recent opportunity performing live as “The dAb Band” on Channel 8’s “Let’s Talk Live!”
