Hey! I was just wondering how you add in live action props into your animations. I assume you film the prop in front of a greenscreen but I was curious as to the process after that as well :]
Heyo! Its totally case by case. usually i'm just using Keylight in after effects to key out the green, then animate the characters on top of it, and composite it all together. If theres a moving camera then i'll track it in Blender before adding 2d and 3d elements so it all syncs up. Then usually last step is adding lighting to make the different assets look like theyre in the same space. (good tutorial for that here!) Sorry its not a more in depth answer, thats the basics of it though!

Named Businesses/Brands in the Sing Franchise: Sing 2
In a recent rewatch of the movies, I tried to find all the named businesses and brands that are in the movies for world building sake (minus bands and entertainment acts cause thats a different list). So here is, in semi chronological order, all the ones that appear in the second movie! There should be minimal overlap between the lists as I only included old ones if we learned new info. Anyways, I'll try to finish the shorts soon!

Eternal Hell
Squidward has had his fair share of being tortured in the bikini bottom and the pain doesn't stop. I used the effect "keylight" to get rid of the green screen from the squid ward running running video. I put it over the backrooms which is an infinitely expanding series of rooms so it only makes sense.

to anyone genuinely asking if this is real: no im sorry to disappoint i edited this for the bit. to anyone asking how i pulled this off so quickly: i actually procrastinated on this most the day then used some spare 15 mins. anyways im bored so im gonna teach you how to make your own boop o meter memes!
STEP 1: screenshot the boop-o-meter! im using windows' old snip tool lol
STEP 2: clean up! i'm using photoshop's spot healingg tool but you can just paint it over or use the clone stamp or whatever works for you
STEP 3: i hopped onto after effects and made a composition THE SIZE OF MY BOOP-O-METER. i set it to 12 fps because i felt it gave it some sort of crappy low quality effect that i felt was fitting (plus i wanted to make the gif as light as possible)
STEP 4: I added both the clear and normal version and animated the opacity of the clear meter with keyframes set on hold so that it flickered on and off.
STEP 5: went on youtube and searched up "never gonna give you up greenscreen". any of these will do
I then of course placed it on my comp on top of the boop-o-meter
STEP 6: to get rid of the greenscreen, i applied the keylight effect. it's quite straightforward: you go to screencolor, eyedrop the greenscreen color and you have a perfectly transparent rick astley!
STEP 7: i added the following effects:
-black and white: self explanatory, makes the image monochrome. i left the settings as is
-posterize: makes it so it deals in absolutes. lcd screens like the one the boop-o-meter imitates only had 2 settings: on and off. black or white. no grays. setting posterization to 2 levels does the same.
-mosaic: pixels!! play around with the numbers according to the size of your composition.TURN SHARP COLORS ON, otherwise it defeats the purpose of the posterize effect.
STEP 8: from the timeline, i changed the layer mode of the video to multiply and set the opacity to around 60% to simulate the boop-o-meter's style
I also noticed that the pixels were ever so slightly warm toned, so i used lumetri to better match it. this is a completely skippable step, im just insufferable like that
STEP 9: Lastly, i used the pen tool to create a mask in the shape of the screen
and that's pretty much it! then i went to composition > add to render queue and exported! these were my particular settings,
i used avi and rgb + alpha because i wanted to keep the transparency of my boop-o-meter. this is just extra. you can definitely leave it on H.264 and RGB as it comes by default.
STEP 10: we're technically done, but if you want to turn the video you just made into a gif, just open it on photoshop, go to file > export > save for web, and save it as a gif. these were my particular settings but u can play around w these
And there you go! thats's how i wasted my years of graphic and multimedial formal studies on a rickroll meme.
If you don't wanna do all that, here's the after effects file so that you can replace the rick roll with anything, such as doom, bad apple, the destiel confession, etcetera
have fun! and don't forget to always play with jpegs (or in this case mp4s) like dolls!!
sorry if this is a dumb question but uhmm is anyone else's boop-o-meter doing this???

Green Screen Techniques and Chroma Keying: A Comprehensive Guide
Green screen techniques and chroma keying are vital tools in visual effects (VFX) and post-production, allowing filmmakers and creators to place subjects into any environment imaginable. These techniques have revolutionized film, television, gaming, and online content creation, enabling stunning visuals and creative settings without the need for expensive physical sets. For those aspiring to master these techniques, MAAC Pune offers in-depth training in VFX and post-production. This guide covers the principles, equipment, and applications of green screen techniques and chroma keying, providing a valuable resource for those looking to excel in visual effects.
#### **Understanding Green Screen and Chroma Keying**
Green screen, or chroma keying, involves filming subjects against a solid-colored backdrop—usually green or sometimes blue. The background is digitally removed (or "keyed out") and replaced with a different setting, special effects, or digital environments.
- **Why Use Green or Blue?**: Green and blue are chosen because they contrast with human skin tones, making it easier to separate the subject from the background. Green is often preferred due to digital cameras' sensitivity to green light, which results in a cleaner key.
#### **Essential Equipment and Setup**
1. **Green Screen Material**:
- Use high-quality, non-reflective fabric or paint to create a smooth and even background. Ensure it is wrinkle-free and consistently lit to prevent shadows or color inconsistencies.
2. **Proper Lighting**:
- Separate lighting setups for the green screen and the subject are crucial:
- **Green Screen Lighting**: Use soft, diffused lights positioned to cover the entire screen evenly and avoid hotspots or shadows.
- **Subject Lighting**: Light the subject independently to avoid green spill (reflected green light). Utilize key lights, fill lights, and backlights to achieve balanced lighting.
3. **Camera Settings**:
- Use a high-resolution camera with manual settings to control exposure, white balance, and focus. A camera with higher bit depth captures more color information, aiding in precise keying.
4. **Tracking Markers**:
- Place tracking markers on the green screen for camera tracking and compositing, especially for dynamic shots involving camera movement.
#### **Filming Techniques for Effective Chroma Keying**
1. **Positioning the Subject**:
- Place the subject several feet away from the green screen to reduce shadows and minimize green spill.
2. **Wardrobe and Props Considerations**:
- Avoid green clothing or props that could blend with the green screen. If necessary, consider using a blue screen instead.
3. **Camera Movements**:
- Static shots are easier to key, but dynamic shots add depth and realism. Use a tripod for stability or motion control systems for more complex movements.
#### **The Chroma Keying Process**
1. **Importing Footage**:
- Import the footage into editing or compositing software like Adobe After Effects, Premiere Pro, or DaVinci Resolve.
2. **Applying the Chroma Key Effect**:
- Use chroma key tools (e.g., Keylight in After Effects, Ultra Key in Premiere Pro) to remove the green background.
3. **Adjusting Keying Parameters**:
- Fine-tune the parameters to achieve a clean key:
- **Color Selection**: Use the color picker to select the green or blue background.
- **Threshold/Tolerance**: Adjust to refine the key and remove the unwanted background.
- **Edge Feathering**: Soften edges to blend the subject smoothly with the new background.
- **Spill Suppression**: Reduce green or blue spill on the subject to maintain natural colors.
4. **Adding Background and Effects**:
- Replace the keyed-out background with desired images or footage. Adjust positioning, scaling, and add effects like shadows to enhance realism.
#### **Advanced Techniques for Perfecting the Key**
1. **Garbage Matte**:
- Use garbage mattes to mask out areas that are challenging for the chroma key tool, helping to clean up the key around the primary subject.
2. **Multi-Pass Keying**:
- Apply multiple keying layers for scenes with varying lighting or intricate details to achieve a cleaner key.
3. **Rotoscoping**:
- For areas difficult to key out, use rotoscoping to manually trace the subject frame by frame for a precise matte.
#### **Applications of Green Screen Techniques**
1. **Film and Television**:
- Used extensively for creating fantasy environments, integrating CGI, and enabling actors to interact with virtual elements. Blockbusters like "The Avengers" rely heavily on green screen technology.
2. **Broadcasting**:
- News and weather broadcasts use green screens to display dynamic backgrounds and graphics.
3. **Virtual Production**:
- Combining green screen techniques with real-time rendering allows for immersive environments, as seen in productions like "The Mandalorian."
4. **Gaming and VR**:
- Used in game development and virtual reality to create interactive experiences. Motion capture studios often employ green screens to capture actors' movements.
5. **Online Content Creation**:
- Popular among YouTubers, streamers, and educators for adding virtual backgrounds and overlays to enhance viewer engagement.
### **Conclusion**
Green screen techniques and chroma keying have transformed visual effects and content creation, enabling limitless creative possibilities. Mastery of these techniques allows creators to produce visually stunning and immersive content, from blockbuster movies to online videos. Whether you are a filmmaker, game developer, or content creator, understanding and applying green screen methods will significantly elevate your work. With the right skills, training, and tools from MAAC Institute, the potential for using chroma keying to bring imaginative visions to life is truly limitless.

How to Remove Green Screen from Video Using After Effects
Removing a green screen in After Effects is straightforward. Start by applying the "Keylight" effect to your footage. Use the eyedropper tool to select the green screen, then adjust settings like "Screen Gain" and "Clip Black" for a clean key. This technique effectively isolates your subject, ensuring a professional result.

Making the scene 03 - Blocked animation
Train Journey- Chroma Keying
Here I added 3 effects to my footage. 1st one was the most essential Keylight which was the chroma key, then the Advanced Spill Suppressor which removes the green reflections from your footage, and finally lumetric colour to colour grade and match the footage to my scene. But this made a negative impact on the footage. The flicker in the footage became more visible.
