BIG MUDDY MONSTER HUNTERS - Murphysboro, Illinois. Visiting with monster and lore hunting friends, colleagues and authors Kevin Lee Nelson and Chad Lewis during a book signing event at the Big Muddy Brewery in Murphysboro, Illinois in 2019. Murphysboro, a small town on the banks of the Big Muddy River, was the site of a rash of Bigfoot-like cryptid encounters in the 1970s and 80s. Several witnesses who saw the unknown creature were in attendance at this event to celebrate the publication of Kevin and Chad’s book “The Big Muddy Monster” (with Noah Voss). The brewery has adopted the monster, called “Mongo,” as its own and even sponsors an annual beer festival in his honor. The three of us later went on to work together in Joe Tury’s feature doc “The Creature from Big Muddy” released in 2021.
