I’ve Given Notice

I’m so relieved to say I’ve quit my job. The strength of my mentality, passion and resilience has been devoted and exhausted on my job for the past two and a half years. And in those two years I’ve bare witness to the decline in yearning, productivity and happiness I once experienced for writing. Throughout the last couple of years I’ve lamented about wanting to feel that way again, and to an extent, resented my job for taking away such a simple yet important passion of mine.

I can now walk away feeling successful, renewed and excited to commence a new phase in my life; that which includes a reinvigorated urge to write! For what I will do now I do not know, only that I don’t want a new job to influence my life negativity as the previous job once did. I will find something that compliments the way I want to live.

So here’s to a new year!

Arun jolts awake in alarm. The thudding of his heart drowns all other noise, erratic from the sudden awakening. Within the the confinements of his bedroll, he stares frightfully above, attempting to reorientate himself. It's still dark, he notes, speckled star light peeking through the canopy, but unable to gauge the hour. What matters is that he's safe, though from what, he's unsure of that too. He exhales deep and long, body sagging in relief. The adjustment is slow but eventually he sits forward, grimacing as he tugs at his undergarment, glued to his chest with perspiration.

Slouched, Arun runs a hand through his hair, noting the dampness of this forehead and hair. What foul thing had haunted his dream? Darkness and shadow. A desperate and futile struggle.

“Your hero can't save you.” It cooed, breath cold against Arun's ear. “He has failed you. And now you're all mine and what a pretty, little toy you'll make.” Then a cold, sharp pain slices through Arun as if he were butter. His spine arches away from the pain, his scream begging mercy, the grin of a mad man above him, red tinted eyes flashing, savouring the display.

He shudders fearfully but casts away the remnants of the nightmare. It was but a dream and he was safe from its imaginary horrors. A breath of relief highlights the parchment of his mouth, craving refreshment. Should memory serve correctly, extending out, he reaches for the water canister with greedy hands. Within his grasp, he notes the lightness of its weight and regrettably remembers not refilling it before retiring that night. With frustrated yet determined resolve, he pushes aside the blanket, fumbling in the dark to grasp his leather boots.

The night is cool and more noticeable without the cocoon of warmth that was his bedroll. He holds steady, gaining balance. The fire that marked the centerpiece of the camp, smoulders with dying life. The amber debris provides little light and no warmth; it only marked where he ought not to tread. A snort alerts him to the presence of the camps ever watchful guardian, turning to define Epona's dark silhouette. Though she too rested in the darken hours of Din's rest, she was alert to their surrounding and sensitive to that which stalked the dark hours.

He approaches quietly for the sake of his sleeping companion. Extending a hand, he's greeted by a warm, prickled nuzzle of her welcome. There had been few occasions that she had insisted on her masters awaking. Yet finding her calm and content, those last traces of nightmare fade at her reassurance. He pats her affectionately, feeling but subtle inclination into the touch. She was a proud and loyal creature whom only her master had earned exhibitions of reciprocated feeling. The relationship between man and beast eluded Arun, even more so that Epona understood their tongue. Yet witness to many exchanges between she and her master had proven to Arun that she understood by some degree, if not entirely.

He leans forward whispering, “Keep watch.” And departs with a final stroke of her neck.

A/N: dedicated to @ellieljade and based on her latest Jimin dream. I felt inspired to quickly type something up for I love rain and I just needed another reason to distract myself from writing my current works IP.

“You were right about the rain.”

In the hours since entering the restaurant, a light shower has cooled the summer night, the pavement soaked from the consistent downpour. You stretch out your hand from beneath the awning, indulging in the therapeutic sensation as droplets fall upon your palm. The rustle of the umbrella as it’s unfurled attracts your attention, turning to the presence beside you. Jimin gives the device a final shake before pressing the latch to watch the canopy spring up and out to retain its dome shape. He smiles at you, pleased his intuition credited bringing it when you’d been sceptical.

Rain didn’t dissuade the plan to walk home, in fact, it added to the intimacy of the occasion. As you join Jimin beneath the umbrella, specifically selected to accommodate two, he comments, “snuggle in.” His arm encircling your waist to pull you closer. Your own matches his but claiming the sanctity of the back pocket of his jeans; it is both warm and allowed for the subtle but optimal grasp of his perfectly toned ass.

Two by two, you step out into the rain.

The rain is a melody and the umbrella an instrument of pelting droplets that drum upon the plastic canopy. Miniature tidal waves surge across the road as motorists cruise down the street, the doppler quality of wet tires ever present. 

You’re easily absorbed in the observation of the surrounding environment and of the nameless faces of those who pass you by - never to be seen again. Some remain undeterred by the rain, braving the exposure as they bustle past without shelter. Others, prepared for the change in forecast find comfort beneath their umbrellas, some sharing while some travel alone.

The environment has become a blurring of colour through the veil of night and neon lightning. The visual graphics of signs and interior lights now a smudge in the distance.

With the noticeably drop in temperature, you unconsciously press yourself closer to Jimin in search of warmth. He senses the inclination and hugs you tighter, his gaze befalling your face briefly before matching your focus on the path ahead.

"Ah, this one here." And Jimin gestures to cafe, drawing your attention. "Jin recommended it."

Peering through the window, indeed it was small, few patrons occupying the interior, but it exuded warmth with mismatched chairs and tables, perpetuated by dimmed lightning and scattered tea candles. You suddenly feel the urge to be inside and bask in the smell of ground coffee.

"How 'bout Saturday morning? We could do an early breakfast?"

With your proposal, Jimin leads forward, your shoes splashing in puddles and you’re suddenly thankful for wearing boots tonight.

"Or we could stay in bed," he counters with a squeeze of his hand upon your waist, hinting to the alternative possibilities for that morning.

You giggle, difficult to fault the alternative as tantalising images flood your mind.

“You might just have me convinced.” Gripping his ass for good measure and smirking as he jumps at the unsuspecting attack.

It’s his turn to laugh, cheeks dimpling in an adorable fashion. “I thought you might.” And he pecks you on the cheek before hugging you closer still.

The rain remains consistent the journey home and as you find warmth in Jimin’s embrace, the window open to the soothing lullaby and cool breeze. His naked chest is warm against you cheek as the combination of sound and his fingers threading through your hair send you into a relaxed slumber.

Beep. Beep. Beep.

The aggravating tone of your alarm wakens you for the third time. As much as you’re tempted to hit the snooze button again, you know you’ve prolonged the inevitable long enough. You’re no less hesitant however, groaning as you roll over and blindly search for the ringing phone. Squinting at the illuminated screen, a momentary pause passes before you regretfully tap the stop option.

It’s 05:30.

You push up onto your elbows, bones creaking and muscles protesting as they are forced to wake from their slumber, and as you peer into the dark void of the sunless room, someone motions besides you; and incoherent mumble drawing your attention. Carefully, you turn toward them to find the beds second occupant caught between sleep and consciousness, and fondly you brush the dark locks of hair before pressing a tentative kiss upon his forehead.

“Go back to sleep,” you usher.

He mutters in reply, a stifled sound at the back of his throat, and you settle he’s in agreement. He needn’t wake up now.

As you slide from the bed, the chill of morning nips at your skin, prickling with goosebumps which hastens your retreat to the en-suite. In desire for warmth, the heater is flicked on and in a matter of seconds you feel its emitted heat. The toilet takes first priority and is a welcomed relief. At the basin, you wash your hands and then proceed to wash your face, splashing it with warm water before initiating a gentle cleanse. By now you’re usually wake, but fatigue lingers still, feeling sluggish and heavy set about your eyes.

As you pat dry, you’re pleasantly surprised as arms encircle your waist and the presence of a hard frame presses against you. Discarding the towel, you lean into the embrace and smile at Jimin’s reflection; his eyes peering over your shoulder. Under his influence you’re turned around, his hands settling on your hips. His hair is disheveled, overly large t-shirt lopsided and exposing the curvature of his shoulder, but his eyes hold a quiet intensity. He motions forward claiming your lips in an unexpected kiss.

“Mm - morning breath!” you protest, inclining away in an attempt to spare him, but he doesn’t head the objection. Instead, he open the kiss, tongue domineering and hot. You weaken under his insistence. Greedy hands wander beneath your shirt in search of warmth and more. A thumb brushes your nipple, hardening instantly and you gasp into the kiss. He huffs a laugh but doesn’t distract from his goal, the palm of his hand molding to cup your breast and squeeze it gently. You moan, encouraging his ministrations and deepening the kiss.

Air deprivation is the sole reason to break apart, a unison shallow gasp enhanced by the small space. You cling to him loosely, lightheaded, and he leans to rest his forehead on yours.

“Good morning.” He greets.

“Good morning,” you reply breathlessly, and he smiles, cheeks dimpling.

“Is there time for a shower?” he inquires, and you know what he implies, briefly indulging in the idea. And to assist you in the decision, he kisses your throat while pressing his thigh between your legs.

“There isn’t time,” you whine.

Undeterred, his hands push past the elastic of your pants, his breath hot at your ear, “are you sure?” And you can’t ignore how tempted you are to give in.
