Sometimes, he thinks about when he'd told Ponyboy Feel my heartbeat, clutching his hand, thinking he was going to die. Sometimes he wonders if Ponyboy was thinking about that too, after Tim had shot him, when all that white liquid had spilled out of his chest and onto the floor, in his last moments. And Dallas hopes he wasn't.

"Don't you dare—" Ponyboy is cut off by Dallas pulling him into a kiss, beneath the streetlight, cutting off the strangled sound of pain in his throat. He has the urge to bite him, tell him to fuck off for tricking him, and at the same time he kisses back, lets Dallas take his hat off, his fingers pulling Ponyboy flush against him.

God, how were they gonna work together like this?

His hand runs over the back of the dress that Ponyboy has picked out for the cotillion, over the pretty laces, the white fabric, and Ponyboy seems to hold his breath when their eyes meet in the mirror. His fingers play with the laces, waiting for something, waiting for a signal.

"Just... just do it," Ponyboy breathes out, and Dallas tugs.

"Doesn't mean anything — Hell it does mean something that you still don't seem to be doing honest work!" Dallas can hear Darry bark out at Ponyboy when he steps inside of the house; of course they're fighting again.

"I'm not asking for custody! I'm just asking to see him once every weekend, help with his homework. You think going to work for your old Soc buddies is really gonna work out for you when they didn't even stick up for you in high school, Darry?"

Dallas shuts the door behind him with a snap, and both of them look at him with surprise.

"Say my name," Dallas smiles down at Randy, at his bloodied, terrified form, "You remember it, right? I told you when I came to clean your office." He allows Randy to feel the tip of his sharp knife inside of his cheek, the threat to cut it open. "Or did you, what, just ignore me cause I was beneath you? Cause I was the help?"
