The third volume you've all been waiting for is here! Following the success of our previous two volumes, the Zine, Please! team is proud to announce we'll be bringing you another volume full of Check, Please! goodness made by the fans for the fans!

As with our previous iterations, this will be a multi-month affair, with sign-ups happening in October 2024, check-ups happening throughout the process, and the zine being published in free PDF format in June 2025.

This volume's theme is.... #TripleTrouble!

'Swawesome things come in threes! For this volume, we want you all to explore the shenanigans, celebrate the triumphs, and dive into the inner workings and dynamics of all your favorite Check, Please! trios!

There's endless trios to choose from, some more familiar than others. I mean, who can forget the most iconic canon trios? We're talkin' Ransom, Holster, Lardo! We're thinkin' Whiskey, Tango, Foxtrot! We're screeeamin' Chowder, Dex, Nursey!

If you're willing to go outside the box, think about trios you'd love to see together who the fandom hasn't seen! Who among us is brave enough to put the Jack's Type Trio of Bitty, Camilla, and Kent in a room together? Hell, we could even take a dive into Deep Fandom Lore that OG fans may remember with the No Chill Trio of Lardo, Nursey, Kent.

Be it everyone's faves with polyfrogs, tadpoles content, or unlikely trios we'd all kick and squeal about, it's all welcome for this volume!

There is not a single winner’s room fic in the omg Check Please fandom. This is criminal. Get to work before I write the crack of it.

For those unacquainted to hockey RPF the winner’s room trope is basically where the MVP of the winning team gets to pick someone from the losing team to take to the winner’s room and get freaky. Basically the NHL pimpping out the losing team.

I believe it actually originated from hockey RPF so to see it lacking in such a hockey filled fandom is heartbreaking.

in terms of a pb&j challengers au, i feel like we'd be tempted to cast jack and kent as art and patrick because of their whole teenage bffs dynamic. but that leaves bitty as tashi and i think we all know that bitty does not have the ruthlessness required for tashi duncan.

instead, i see bitty as art: objectively the weakest/least internally motivated of the trio, the one with a softer side

jack as tashi: horrifically in love with a sport that doesn't love him back, canonically works with bitty to help him get better, tough love

kent as patrick: the scrappy fighter who acts cooler than he is, not over his first love

obv it doesn't all fit perfectly but i think it would be an interesting dynamic to explore

creation myth

as a birthday present from me to y'all, i'm so excited to finally be able to share something i've been working on for the last month and a half: an aces!jack AU coauthored by the wickedly talented @ohyoufool!!! (24k, jackparse, endgame zimbits, jack/therapy. tw for many, many things. please read the ao3 tags carefully)

It goes like this.

Awake, alone, Jack Zimmermann finds himself in the backseat of his pickup truck. The sun slivers up over the edge of the Mojave, edging sand into shimmer, bones into dust. 

His dreams are always different: cold linoleum, marble tiles, grief he can’t grasp in both hands. Eyes, blue and green and brown. A cathedral of sadness. The end of the world on an altar of gold.

For someone who’s supposed to have it all, he comes up lacking a lot these days.

He stretches, takes inventory. An empty six-pack in the passenger seat. A sore throat, worse than yesterday. A bottle of Klonopin that jams the brake pedal when Jack climbs over the center console to try to start the truck. He scrabbles for it with one hand, catches sight of the clock on the dashboard: 6:07.

Jack curses, hurls the empty bottle out the window, and peels onto the 15 in time to make it for morning skate.

Platonic Samwell hockey team prompts from someone who actually loves hockey outside of the fandom. Not all hockey related. (Can you tell I ship Kent and Jack?)

An opposing player rushes Chowder when he’s in the net and the entire team goes feral. Unspoken hockey law: don’t touch the goalie. This also works off the ice. (Bonus points for Omegaverse AU with the team being a pack.)

Jack meeting up with old Q teammates or billet siblings and them looking at Bitty and asking if Jack was either crushing on Kent or actually dating him. Money from decade old bets are exchanged.

Alternatively in a funnier more idealistic universe learning he and Kent weren’t a subtle as they thought, and that everyone knew he and Kent were a thing.

The Falconers meeting the entire team of Samwell including the graduates. Jack and Bitty are subsequently embarrassed about every silly thing they’ve ever done.

Pre canon fic of Jack and Kent reading fanfic about themselves either drunk or sober.

Kent and Jack doing an interview with their teammates in a newlyweds game. Everyone thinks they did ok because “they aren’t that interesting” only to discover that not only do Kent and Jack still know each other super well. They’re also both dorks who either consume educational content (Jack) or straight up reality show trash and mean girls like movies (Kent)

Social media fic that is just everyone trying to get jack and Kent on the same team again because they played so well together.

Samwell team hanging out with Kent and other Q teammates of Jack and hearing about his stupid nicknames and supposed popular playboy status. The team maintains that he was still a big old nerd under all that.

Dex and Nursery getting roped into D man rituals with Holster and Ransom

The Haus ghosts; Jenny and Mandy, following Jack to the Falconers and the other men players after they graduate. Apparently they slipped a wood chip or something in his gear bags to visit them.
