Part 2 of my really long oddly specific levihan now family fic no one asked for

Context for this: I'll be using Sophie's (aka drinkyourfuckingmilk) levihan children ocs, but made a few tweaks (here's more info on Samson and Leelu here)

Their personalities are still the same (well, I might tone down their crackhead-ness just a bit) the only difference is their birthdays, and instead of being 1 year apart, they're a few minutes apart, and Samson is the oldest twin by 5 minutes XD.

So...this is going to be REALLY long so be prepared for that.

Ok enjoy!

- Levi came up with the name Sam but Hange thought it sounded basic, so she came up with Samson.

- Levi also came up with Leighla, and then Hange started calling her Leelu as a nickname.

- Samson was a pretty loud baby as Leelu was pretty quiet, however she does get aggressive.

- Leighla once almost slapped Levi in the face when she was hungry.

- Samson makes weird noises whenever Levi is around, and he look at him confused, which made Samson giggle.

- Hange and Levi switch nights to watch over the twins.

- I can imagine Levi singing them to sleep and it actually works.

- Sometimes, Hange would watch from the door.

- Hange would ramble on and on about her experiments to the twins, despite Levi telling her they're not going to get it since they're babies and to at least wait until they can talk.

- When they take the twins outside, Samson would look around the environment they're in, meanwhile Leighla sleeps.

- Hange's parents came to visit to see the twins and offered to babysit them since Levi and Hange looked like they haven't slept, so they let Hange's parents babysit them as they catch up on some sleep.

- Kuchel and Kenny visited at one point to see the twins as well, and Kenny almost dropped Samson bc Samson wanted to be tossed.

- Levi was pissed but held back bc his mom, Hange and the twins are there, however, he didn't let Kenny carry him for awhile.

- The twins took a liking to Erwin, Mike, Nanaba, Moblit, Nifa, Farlan and Isabel.

- Samson and Leighla would sometimes pull on Isabel's pigtails.

- They also pulled Mike's hair and Leighla would lightly slap his face. Levi was amused by this.

- They were surprisingly calm when Erwin and Farlan held them. The twins would just stare at them and then lay on their shoulder.

- Nanaba played peek-a-boo with them and they seem to enjoy it.

- Moblit was a bit hesitant holding the twins, but they took a liking to him bc they started giggling.

- Samson took a huge liking to Nifa.

- Levi didn't feel comfortable with the twins around the 104th squad until they could stand (at least) bc he's afraid either they'll break the twins or the twins will break them.

- Mikasa asked about meeting the twins when she was helping out at the tea shop and went home with Levi to see them.

- Mikasa let out a soft smile as the twins started babbling to her and tried to touch her hair.

- She would try to get them to say her name but failed every time.

- Both Samson and Leighla are pretty active babies. Once they were able to crawl, they would crawl all over the house to the point where Hange would chase after them (she had fun chasing them around though and would praise at how active they are).

- Levi definitely baby proofed the house (and the tea shop)

- Once Hange was able to go back to work, Levi would take the twin to the tea shop to watch over them. They would be in the playpen in his office.

- Petra, Olou, Eld, Gunther, and Eren played with them a lot and gave them a lot of attention.

- As they were nearing their first birthday, the twins learned how to walk (or waddle) .

-Levi would watch them from afar in strict dad mode (aka how he usually is) but later eased up a bit.

- He gave the 104th kids a VERY stern warning to behave (specifically warned Jean, Eren and Connie), be gentle with the twins and made sure that their hands are clean.

- Samson loved the attention he was getting, meanwhile Leighla felt a bit overwhelmed until Armin carried her, she started to feel at ease.

- They occasionally enjoy Connie's silly peek-a-boo face.

- Sasha ate their baby snacks "on accident."

- Jean and Eren would bicker who the twins likes more, but turns out they like Armin, and Mikasa the most.

- Sometimes Ymir and Historia will join the 104th squad and play with the twins.

- Marco sometimes like to watch them crawl around and they'd chill on his lap sometimes.

- One time, Reiner, Bertholdt and Annie came into the tea shop and at first, they were confused on what's going on until they saw everyone was playing with Samson and Leighla.

- Samson and Leighla saw Bertholdt and started making grabby hands towards him.

- Bertholdt was a bit nervous, but held them anyways.

- When Bertholdt tried to give them back, they would NOT let go.

- Leighla did not like Annie. She got pretty aggressive when Annie tried to hold her at one point.

- Samson would poke Leighla repeatedly on her face to get her reaction until one time he accidentally poked her eye. She started to cry out of pain and then punched Samson in the face and he started crying.

- You can imagine how that went for Levi and Hange.

- Leighla and Samson were playing with the 104th squad and Leighla wanted Armin to carry her so her first word was Armin.

- Mikasa totally wasn't salty about that.

- The whole squad was freaking out and Armin felt honored.

- Leighla felt proud of herself.

- Levi was about to tell everyone to keep it down, but when he heard Leighla say her first word, he felt so proud of his little girl. He didn't show it, but when he took her to his office to feed her, he softly smiled at her and basically had a little father-daughter bonding time.

- Hange basically twirled her around screaming how she can now talk and smothered her with affections.

- The family was walking in the park, with Hange carrying Samson and Levi carrying Leighla. Samson spotted a butterfly and pointed at it saying bug.

- Hange started squealing "that's my boy!" and then gave a huge lecture on butterflies.

- Even though Samson has no idea what the heck she's saying, he seemed interested.

- Levi sighed, but gave Samson a soft smile and a pat on the head.

Toddlers- 4 years old

- They would make a mess in the living room bc they like to throw pillows at each other.

- Levi obviously scolded them and taught them how to pick up after themselves and where to put their toys away. Remind you they were toddlers.

- At least they learned where to put their toys and didn't scatter them onto the floor.

- They LOVE listening to Hange ramblings, especially Samson.

- She made bedtime stories more interesting, the twins looks forward to that.

- Levi would cuddle them close and listens to Hange telling them bedtime stories.

- Leighla really likes fairy tale stories, I would say her favorite would be Cinderella.

-Idk why, but I feel like Samson would like Alice in Wonderland, actually, they both like Alice in Wonderland.

- Hange would tell them the Grimms brothers version of the fairy tale classics, and although they were fascinated by it, in the long run.....that wasn't a good idea.

- Levi told Hange she shouldn't do that, but ofc, she didn't listen (spoiler, he gave her the "I told you so" look after an incident later in the future)

- Things started getting really busy at the tea shop, so grandma Kuchel would watch over them and they LOVE her, she's so sweet. She would tell them Levi's childhood stories.

- Isabel once babysat them and it was pretty chaotic. They made a blanket fort with her and they would cuddle up watching a movie together, it was so cute.

- Levi wasn't really happy that he's gonna have to clean that up but it was cute and the twins are in one piece so he let it slide.

- Hange took a picture.

- The twins liked riding on Mike's shoulders bc he's so tall.

- Nanaba would sometimes chase them around (idk I thought it'd be cute)

- One time, Hange brought her kids to her work and they wandered off.

- Luckily, Moblit found them in the lab staring at Hange's guinea pigs, Sawney and Bean.

- Moblit took them out for a bit so they can hold them.

- Hange came barreling into the lab out of breath and panicking to Moblit that she can't find the kids, only to find them playing with Sawney and Bean and Moblit.

- Hange ended up rambling about Sawney and Bean to the kids and went into too much detail.

- Nifa saw them playing with Sawney and Bean and decided to join them.

- When they go to the tea shop, Levi would lecture them on what rules to follow, things like not running around, disturbing the staff, steal pastries and don't exit the tea shop.

- Sometimes staff would make them iced fruit teas and give them a cookie to snack on.

- Connie would teach them how to do pranks. He had them one time sprinkle salt into Jean's tea and uhhh Jean spit it in Eren's face which resulted in a fight.

- Levi broke it up and was furious at Connie and the twins.

- He made Connie and the twins apologize and clean up the spill.

- He gave them a really strict lecture when they got home and uh, lets just say that was the first time they've seen Levi genuinely mad and it scared them a bit.

- Their punishment is to clean that they have to do house chores and help out with the tea cafe, they can't be with the 104th squad for a week.

- Hange bursted out laughing when she heard what they did, but stopped when she saw Levi wasn't happy.

- She could tell Levi had a stressful day, so she snuggled against him to comfort him.

- She saw the twins peaking from behind the entrance of the living room and called out to them to join them.

- They hesitantly went to into the living room and sat on the floor next to Hange.

- "What's wrong kiddos? Come here, don't be shy, it's just us."

- Samson and Leighla both squished each other on the left side of the couch and kinda hiding behind Hange.

- Hange picked up what's happening and brought the kids closer to them and gave them a pep talk.

- "Kids, I know you feel scared and guilty, but you know, even if you guys messed up, your dad and I still love you very much ok? And it's ok to make mistakes, it happens to the best of us, even you're perfectionist of a dad messes up sometimes, especially when we first got together but that's another story for when you kids are older. Anyways, the importance of making mistakes is that we make them so we learn from them and grow as people. And in the lab, we make mistakes or errors, but we don't give up, we learn from those errors and study past errors in order to find a way to thoroughly run an experiment and come to an accurate conclusion, there's this one experiment-"

"Hange, I think they get the point."

"Right, so in short, it's good you feel sorry for what you did, and it shows you genuinely care, but even though there will be times where we're going to have to be tough on you, we'll always love you ok?"

- Samson and Leighla apologized for their earlier actions and Levi apologized for yelling at them, and cue the sweet family bonding time on the couch.

Every single memory that you can possibly recall, there he was. It wasn’t a bad thing per say. Your families grew up next to each other after all. You moved in a year or two after he had moved in with his mom. Kutchel was her name. You remember her bringing over a fresh batch of homemade brownies with a little sidekick next to her. “Oh, hello! I saw that you are our new neighbors, so I couldn’t help but make you all feel welcomed. I’m Kutchel, and this is my son Levi.” Kutchel ruffled up Levi’s hair, making him groan in response. “Moooommm.” He immediately caught your attention. He was unusual looking for a kid. But, maybe it was a good thing. After being introduced to your brand new neighbors, everything took off from there. The two mothers were often found at the town’s park with their two kids. You and Levi grew closer and closer each and every year. When Levi was twelve, and you were eleven, devastating news fell upon the hands of the small children. Kutchel, the sweet lady who always gave you such a warm smile, died. She was silently fighting cancer, but told not one person about the fatal disease. Levi took the news pretty heavily, and ran away. It took you and your mother exactly a week and three days to find him. He was absolutely filthy, considering he was hiding in an abandoned shopping center. Your mother took him home and gave him a bath and of course, food to eat. He lived with you both for four years in the extra bedroom across from yours. He became a brother to you. Kids at school made up rumors, saying that his mother left him with you because she didn’t love him anymore, or that you both were actually siblings. They were different every day. After the four years, Levi was sixteen and you were fifteen. Things were definitely different. There was a weird tension between you two. You couldn’t put your tongue on it, but something felt weird in your stomach every time you looked at Levi. You for sure thought it was just guilt from his mother passing away, but then you came to the conclusion that they were in fact butterflies. It was no doubt that you two had feelings for each other. I mean, growing up and going through everything together? There was going to be some type of love there. You meant to tell Levi how you felt, and so did Levi. He was planning on telling you he loved you the day his uncle took him away from you. It was a Sunday evening when the doorbell rang. Your mother thought it was her friend, but it ended up being some weird man with a hat and a beard. He barged through the house and stood by the door. “Where is he?” The man spoke loudly, startling you and your mother. “W-Who are you sir? And who are you referring to?” Your mother stared at the man with terror in her eyes. “Levi, you shit! Where is he!” As soon as Levi heard his name from his room, he came downstairs and stared at the man with widened eyes. “Kenny..?” He approached him slowly. “Ah, there’s the bastard. Come on, we’re leaving.” He grabbed Levi by the arm and started dragging him out the door. “Levi! No!!!” You screamed out to him, only to have him look back at you. “I’m sorry, (name).” Was the last thing you ever heard come out of his mouth. He had a phone, and you always tried to call him. Everyday after school, you called him about ten times. But, you gave up after three months of trying. Where could he have gone? Is he okay? Who was that man who took him away? Those questions never stopped running through your head. Countless breakdowns and panic attacks at night never seemed to stop. It was all his fault. One night, you went onto your roof. You stared up at the sky and talked to Levi. “Levi.. I don’t know where you are or what you’re doing right now, but I miss you. It’s been a course of six months since I last saw you. When will you come home to me? I- I never got to tell you, but I like you.. Do you like me back?” You spoke to the stars as if they would somehow turn to Levi and he would give you the response you so desperately craved. Levi did the same exact thing that night. He went onto the roof of his worn down apartment complex and looked up into the starry night. “(name), I wish I could change the past. I knew that someday we would be separated, but I never knew it would happen this soon. Tch.. I never told you my feelings either. I hope that you’re okay.” A total of nine years had passed since that day. Levi was long forgotten by now. You had graduated and moved to New York City for your career in painting. You started to paint when you were seventeen and realized that you were incredible at the hobby. You were given a job opportunity here and you decided to take it. Some of your work would be plastered onto a wall in an art museum. It felt so surreal to you. You picked a couple pieces of art that were special to you to put up in the museum. One in particular was a starry night with a girl, no less than fifteen years old, sitting upon a roof and looking up into the sky. It always reminded you of that night. After the workers mounted the few art pieces to the wall, you were able to take a glimpse at your magnificent artwork. Tears pricked at your eyes when you finally realize your dream of being an artist came true. The art show was tomorrow, so you had to take a cab home and get some good rest. You stopped at a small corner store before heading home, being in the mood for chocolate milk. Your mom always made it for you and… him. But you still loved it nonetheless. After paying for your drink, you exited the store and began to walk along the sidewalk to find a cab. It wasn’t until a sudden force almost knocked you off your feet. You turned around and watched a woman with brown hair and glasses struggle to stand up. “Oh my, I am so sorry!! I wasn’t looking where I was going!” She apologized several times and you just smiled. “It’s alright, I appreciate your apolog-” You were cut off by a man catching up to the woman. “Oi, four eyes, let’s go. Stop talking to strangers.” His raven hair and steel eyes reminded you of someone from your past, but you brushed it off. This isn’t some cheesy fanfic, (name). This is your life for crying out loud.   “Okay, shorty. Let’s go. Sorry again ma’am!” She waved and jogged to catch up to the man, who’s eyes were glued onto yours. He looked shocked for a split second, before returning to his cold expression. You shook it off and found a cab before heading home. The next day was filled with anxiety. You were a nervous wreck on your way to the art show. You were bouncing your leg up and down while fidgeting with your fingers. Once you arrived at the museum you paid the cab driver and headed up to your exhibit. You were offered plenty of drinks and free food, but your appetite was long gone. You were wearing a simple red dress, fitted to your body, and some red heels. Not too much heel, or else you would fall flat on your face. The art show was three hours in, and many people stopped to look at your exhibit. They gave you plenty of warming compliments about each piece on the wall. When nobody was around your paintings, you walked over to the food and grabbed a few items to keep yourself in check. Three Hours Before Levi had planned to stay inside today, but when Hanji came bursting through the doors of his apartment, he had guessed she had other plans for him. “Leeevvvviiii!!” She came jogging into the living room, causing Levi to give her a glare. “What is it, shitty-glasses?” He picked up his tea cup and took a sip before placing it back down onto the coffee table. “So you know that art museum in Times Square? Well…. There’s finally going to be an art exhibit there! There hasn’t been one in over six months!! We need to go Levi, you’ll love it!” She tugged on Levi’s arm, causing him to click his tongue. “Fine. But only because you won’t leave me the hell alone.” He stood up and got dressed before the two of them took a cab to the art museum. It wasn’t too packed, but the place was nice and welcoming. While walking around, he lost Hanji and just sighed. “That dumbass..” He said under his breath while walking through the various paintings that were plastered up onto the walls. He approached a few that caught his eye. It looked like more of a beginning who had painted it, but overall was really good. While looking at each painting, one made his heart skip a beat. It was of a small child, perhaps around the age twelve, sitting on a swing with a girl. The boy wore mostly black, and his hair was raven colored just like his own. Their backs covered up their facial features, which gave the painting some sort of mystery to it. Another painting caught his eye. A young teen girl, sitting on a roof, while looking up into the starry sky. It felt oddly familiar to him, but he couldn’t quite tell as to why. The painting was labeled ‘Talking to the Moon’ and the artists’ name was nowhere to be seen, which gave him yet another mystery. These paintings seemed as though they came from the painter’s memories. You were heading back to your exhibit after eating a few sushi rolls when you spotted a man at your paintings. You rushed over to him, when you realized you had seen him before. From last night! That lady that ran into you, he was there too! You walked up to him and smiled. “H-Hi sir. Sorry.. I usually greet people that come over here but.. I was finding food.” You blushed shyly. “Tch. What’s the meaning with all of these anyway?” He asked, not looking at you yet. The voice sounded so close to home that it was almost scary. “Oh, hah, they were just some random memories I came up with in my head.” You laughed nervously. That was when he took a look at you, and his eyes widened. You caught the expression, and suddenly all of your childhood flashed before your eyes. “(name)!! Put that nasty thing down!” Levi laughed while running away from you. You were holding a worm while chasing Levi around your backyard with it. “Sometimes I still think, what if my mom was still alive?” Levi said while you two sat in his room one night. “Hey, she still lives on!” You pointed to his heart. “(name), we might get separated one day. I just want you to know that if or when we do, we will cross paths again. I am sure of it, okay?” Levi engulfed you into a hug while you cried. “You think so?” You sniffled after pulling away from the hug. “Oh yeah, I’m sure of it. Now let’s go eat some ice cream!” You both laughed on your way to the kitchen. Tears filled your eyes, a few escaping and falling down your cheeks. “L-Levi..?” You said quietly. “(name).. It’s really you, isn’t it?” He let his lips turn into a small smile. You wiped your tears and wrapped your arms around him tightly. “Oi, you’re suffocating me.” He said, muffled. You pulled away and laughed. “Sorry.” “You said we would cross paths again, and we did. Levi..” You found yourself crying yet again. “Hey, brat, stop it.” He wiped the fallen tears on your cheek with his thumb. You blushed and hugged him again. “I never gave up on you. I called you every single day after school for-” “For three months. I know. My uncle wouldn’t let me answer the phone. It was torture to me, trust me.” He interrupted you suddenly. You pulled away from the hug yet again. “Levi.. these pictures.. they aren’t just random memories. They are the memories that I remember of us.. The starry night one, I remember I was on the roof and I was trying to talk to you after you left.” You sniffled as you took a minute to recall your past. “I did the same. I thought that one day I would wake up and this would all be a dream but unfortunately it wasn’t.” He looked into your eyes. “I never forgot you. When I saw you last night, I brushed it off because there's no way in hell that would be you, right? But I guess it was.” He grabbed your hand and squeezed it. “That night.. I uh.. I was going to confess before my uncle took me away,” He continued. “But I never got a chance.” He brought your hand up to his lips and kissed gently. “(name), I love you. I always have loved you. From the moment you moved into that fancy ass house of yours, I always loved you.” Your eyes widened. “Levi..” You stared at him before he crashed his lips onto yours. Everything moved in slow motion. It felt like you two were the only ones in the museum. You wrapped your arms around his neck and deepened the kiss. After all these years of talking to the moon and waiting for him to reappear in your life finally paid off. You pulled away from the kiss slowly. “Levi, I love you too.”

A scene-by-scene description of what happens in Netflix’s Death Note (part 1 of 2)

I know some people were interested in finding out what happens in the Netflix Death Note remake but don't want to watch it. As I am procrastinating to an amazing degree today, I've decided to write out a scene-by-scene description/transcription of Netflix's Death Note (2017). Fair warning for anyone who'd be interested in reading this that I've made minimal attempts to make the language flow nicely. Still, it's legible; if you want to know exactly what happens in the Netflix Death Note remake you can read this. Maybe think of it as just really, really bad fanfiction. I've added some personal comments on stuff I found interesting too.

Commentary is based mostly on things I found interesting lore-wise; it does not touch on any important social issues but focuses on lore and plot points. There are some gifs and pictures as well.

I’ll use ' for quotations when I’m paraphrasing and " when I’m quoting directly.

It opens on a cityscape. Light is doing other students' math homework for money on the other side of a fence from a football game. The middle cheerleader is rebellious and somber, not perky like those other girls. She smokes and leaves while they continue their jumps. Significant eye contact is made; Light is intrigued.

It starts to storm and the death note drops right beside Light. Students scatter, but one of the weak is left behind, cornered and mugged by bullies in the rain. Mia the cheerleader attacks, throwing the bullies off. Light watches impotently until they start coming at her, whereupon he jumps in front with "Hey, don't touch her!" while she protests that she doesn't need help. Light reminds the bully that since he failed a grade he's now older than 18 and if he beats up Light that would be child abuse and he'll end up on an offender registry.

Light proceeds to get his ass kicked.

A teacher finds him unconscious with the other students' homework scattered around him. The rain does not appear to have damaged any of his scattered papers, so they know exactly what he's done. The principal is mad about Light's side business, and doesn't care that Light has a black eye; Mia told the teacher Light had walked into a beam. Light tells the principal he has the chance to stop people who make life hard for everybody, so I'm reading subtext that no one believes the beam story but everyone's willing to play along. Light's mother is apparently dead in this version; the principal tells him that he's still not getting any slack for behavioural issues and assigns him two weeks detention.

Light tries to talk to Mia later, but a jock who’s probably her boyfriend pulls her away.

Scene transition to detention. Light's sleeping alone in the detention room. The teacher wakes him up, tells him not to sleep, and fucks right off. He throws his textbooks on the floor and pulls out the death note.

He reads the first two rules and flips through to see a bunch of names, then the lights go off. A bunch of marbles come rolling at him from the back of the room. He goes wandering around in some stacks to see the broken marble jar and discover Ryuk.

He screams and runs while Ryuk uses telekinesis or air bending or something to throw all the stuff in the classroom around and lock Light in with him. Light screams and pounds on the glass window in the door then hides under a desk (I think he's crying a bit) until Ryuk telekinetically pulls the desk away.

The apple is tossed back over the stacks, eaten. Light tries to convince himself he's sleeping; he slaps his face. Ryuk's all 'Yeah bro, sure, a dream, better enjoy it' and tells him to go look out the window and watch the bullies harass some girl, then tells him to write a bully's name down. "I know you want to," he says. Light's all "Nah" and "I don't have a pen" so Ryuk gives him a pen and eggs him on into specifying a cause of death. Light just goes for it and scrawls "decapitation" then watches the douche die. He gets decapitated from the jaw up by a ladder in a car accident, splattering the girl he was bullying with blood and probably traumatizing her far more than anything else that was going to happen would have. It got in her mouth. Also her binders and notebooks are probably stained now, so all kinds of costs are higher than they would have been if Light had done nothing.

Light falls back from the window and quivers on the floor.

Ryuk tells him that he needs to "separate the wheat from the chaff" and that Light's "capable of great things" but if he can't handle it he can leave the note alone for 7 days and Ryuk will find a new home. Ryuk disappears with a flicker of light, leaving Light alone in the ruined classroom. We never see him explain how it got that way, which it tragic because that's a comedy I could get invested in.

Light's dad is drinking beer with dinner in their home that's about an arm's length away from railroad tracks. The house rattles as the train passes. Sayu was freed from this travesty. Godspeed Lady Not-Appearing-in-this-Film.

They talk about the bully that died and Light's detention. Light starts to say that he only got caught because he was trying to protect a bullied kid, but then breaks off and tells his father that he wouldn't understand what Light was doing. Not!Soichiro drinks his beer as Light chastises him for not solving real problems but busting people for bullshit like not handing in reports. Not!Soichiro says "A gun is only good as its aim, son. I make sure people can trust our aim." Light angrily gets up and talks about not!Soichiro just watching criminals get away even though he's a cop. Backstory reveal: some bad driver (Antony Skomal) ran over Light's mother and got away with it because his dad paid his way out of jail. Antony also abused his girlfriend. Light storms off and takes an apple up to his room to read more of the death note's rules.

He stumbles across a note from a previous user scrawled in a margin: "Don't trust Ryuk. He's not your pet. He's not your friend." It seems like pretty good advice, but maybe unneeded since Ryuk's been coming off pretty strong as a creeper.

Suddenly the lights go out and Light's closet opens horror-movie slow. Light takes his peace-offering apple and places it by the closet before jumping back. Ryuk continues to be creepy and eats it from the closet, then appears on Light's bed.

Light asks if he can control people. Ryuk reveals that "every human spends the last moments of his life in the shadow of a death god" which is pretty interesting and very different from the original canon where people just died on time unless a death god wanted to absorb their remaining lifespan. My first thought on this is that it means the canon Shinigami world must necessarily be very different; they’d have to be working all the time in this one because people are constantly dying. This has to be a tightly-run ship. Did Ryuk get bored and defect from his 9-5 shift of people killing? Do the Shinigami have something like celebrities that come down and mess with humans for everybody to watch on break? Every single human is killed by a death god, so do they control disasters, or just who dies in them? Do they know when mass deaths are going to happen? Do they work like a business and have backup shifts on call in case of emergency?

Light tells Ryuk his fingers are huge. Yeah boy.

They talk a bit more about the note and passing it on. The last owner died. Light mentions the warning he found and Ryuk's like 'let's not bother with that boring stuff.' Light doesn't push back.

Later that night, Light takes his dad's case file on the guy who killed Light's mother. Ryuk hovers. Light has a waiter trip on the guy resulting in him stabbing himself in the throat with his own knife. The next morning Light's father gets a call with the good news. "Our friend Antony Skomal is no more." They touchingly say that they love each other.

The next day at school, Light reads while the other students do gym or something. Mia comes over to talk about the bully's death. [The bully's name was Kenny so let me just "Oh my god, Light killed Kenny!" "You bastard!"] Mia is super into the fact that Light saw it. Light's surprised that Mia knows his name, and asks why she had him put in detention. She says she didn't know he was carrying around illegal papers but wanted him to get medical treatment. Light's just reading the death note in public, so Mia asks him about it. He's all "I can't tell you" but when she starts to pull away he dives in with "Do you really want to know?" to which she pauses for a moment before going with "Sure" then he tells her to follow him. Light is not doing well if his aim was not to come across as desperate. He takes her to an empty cafeteria and has her touch the note so that she can see Ryuk. She can't. Ryuk then tells Light that only the keeper of the note can see him. It's incredibly socially awkward. He tells her to read it and tries to convince her that he killed Kenny. She laughs him off and tries to leave, but he blocks her off. He is so desperate to make sure she knows about his death note secret that he convinces her to stream live news coverage of an escalated domestic disturbance with him and watch as he controls and kills the guy. He has him step into traffic and salute right before being killed. Mia's into it. She tells him not to feel guilty. They leave together and he tells her about his worldviews and she tells him he isn't crazy enough. "We could change the world." Light stutters over being included in 'We' then takes her home and up to his room (his father is passed out on the sofa). They make out after she chastises him for asking if he can kiss her. They... uh... scene transition. They bone. They definitely bone.  

The next day at school they talk about what they can do with the note and how 'the people need an infallible god.' Later they select people to kill as foreplay.

Light decides to call himself Kira because it means light in Russian and Celtic and killer in Japanese.

There's a news montage about how great Kira is and how criminals are stopping and turning themselves in for leniency. There are Kira prayer circles.

We first see L in a Tokyo nightclub bloodbath. I admit, I'm not sure why the bared dead stripper titties were necessary in the leading shot, but sure. He's right in there, hoodie up, bottom half of his face covered, stepping over dismemberments. Some puppy-play guy may or may not have had his dick chopped off; I'm not pausing to examine the area.

I'm guessing there were warring gangs, but it seems there's been a truce for over ten years. L tipped Kira off; he's been seeding him the names of obscure criminals and waiting for them to die. Cut to a shot of a stripper bent over a police cruiser. L gets into his stretch limo and is driven away. Dialogue with Watari makes it clear L's not sleeping and is eating candy to get an insulin boost that will focus his mind before he has a nap. Watari gives him glasses to prepare his body clock, then L asks him to sing him to sleep. Watari sings Optimistic Voices from The Wizard of Oz.

Not!Soichiro is assigned to the Kira case. He goes into work to discover that his workroom has been vandalised, then gets a call from the FBI and Watari shows up. Watari points out that Not!Soichiro's workroom was vandalized by the other cops. Not!Soichiro explains the blue wall of silence without referring to it by name; apparently Kira is protected under it. Not!Soichiro has heard of L, and is totally down to talk. L tells him Kira's in Seattle, and proposes that they help each other.

Mia finds a "Justice for the Wicked" website full of Kira supporters reporting people for Kira to kill. Light brings up the possibility that people might be putting basically innocent people up on there for personal vengeance, using adultery as an example. The foreplay begins again as Mia asks what Light would do if someone else fucked her and he says he'd kill him. Mia's like 'It'll be fine. No one would ever make false accusations anonymously on the internet' because she is a fine scholar of humanity.

Watari takes Not!Soichiro to meet L, who is working in a room full of people. L says most of his face is covered because he's not in a very trusting mood these days. Not!Soichiro's name is James. James gets ice cream. L is impressed that James gathered all the information he has on Kira himself because no other cops would help him. That man worked hard for his ice cream. James and Watari have some clearly meaningful eye contact.

L finds only two mistakes. He says James missed that the guy Light killed to show Mia what he could do was actually a Kira killing (which led him to Seattle for Kira's location) and that Kira has access to the Seattle police department's databases (L knows because he hacked the network and found no signs that anyone had hacked it before him). L gives James a list of officers' access times and Kira's killings so they can look for correlation. L wanders off saying he wants to speak to Kira. He leaves to conduct a press conference.

Mia tells Light to turn on the news to watch L's live broadcast. Light gets super mad when L calls him a coward and a child who doesn’t understand the power he's wielding. L taunts Kira to kill him. Ryuk laughingly declares himself for Team L.

Afterward, James is like, 'WTF dude?!?' L is like, 'It was fine; now we know Kira needs a name and a face to kill.' James is like, 'dude :(.'

Light creeps downstairs while James is working at the table to ask him about the case and press conference. Light asks what he knows about L and whether he thinks L could be Kira. James doesn't even consider it. Cue ironic line about being able to detect serial killers.

Light asks what's going to happen when they catch Kira then makes a face as though he's never considered that someone might want to kill him for what he's been doing.

L has Light followed. James gets upset about it. L explains that everyone with access to the database is being investigated. James stays salty.

Light and Mia go on a date to the fair to look unsuspicious for the guy who keeps following them while clearly wearing a wire. Light's like, 'Let's maybe take a break from using the death note.' Mia's like, 'What we're doing is important!' Ryuk's like, 'Solve your problems with murder.'

Light's all 'I can't kill the guy following me, that'd be super suspicious.' Mia's like, 'Yeah. Kill all the agents. It sends a message not to fuck with Kira and they won't know who did it.' Ryuk's like, 'I like her.'

Light gets mad and says "I guess we're really fucking lucky that it's my book" because he is not down for that shit. Mia is quiet.

Later they watch the news report on Kira being quiet lately and how that's being taken as evidence that the investigation is going well. Misa storms off. Light offers to watch news reports with popcorn and take names for later, but she's all like 'I'm not hanging out with you to not murder people' and bails.

The Assistant Director of the investigation has a fatal heart attack. L sends out a call to the other agents to let them know they've been compromised. Agent Franks, who had been following Light, is taken control of along with the other agents while L is talking to him. They move in a pack to jump off a building.

Light is running through the hallways at school, mad as hell. He thinks Ryuk killed the agents. Mia tells him not to be hasty, "What's he gonna do if you go after him? Maybe you just need to take a minute to relax and see if this was the best thing that could've happened."

Light continues to think Ryuk is responsible and runs home, yelling for Ryuk. Ryuk gives him an 'I'm not your dog' talk. He asks Light who he thinks wrote the rules, and tells him that this is a game and he's not on anyone's side, but he knew eventually Light wouldn't be able to handle playing it. (This is around 48 minutes in.) He tells Light to pass the note on because he's clearly not capable of handling it. Light threatens to write Ryuk's name. Ryuk says that others have tried, "There are four letters in my name. Most anyone's ever gotten were two." I find this interesting because he had his name written in the note three times by that person who left the warning note. So was that person not picturing Ryuk while he wrote? Do the margins not count? Or is Ryuk just fucking with Light, letting him think writing the name of a death god would have any effect when it wouldn’t? I'd lean toward the latter, even if the most likely explanation is plot hole.

Mia's watching gory TV in Light's room when it's interrupted by an emergency broadcast by Light's dad. James accuses Kira of the murder of the agents and talks shit about him, his face and name revealed. Mia tries to write Light's dad's name; Light stops her. "Mia, this is over! Ryuk fucked us. We're not the good guys anymore." Mia's all 'for the greater good bae.' Light tells her to get the fuck out if she wants. She asks if he's just going to quit.

L, Watari, and James talk about whether he's gonna die. L asks whether James is truly ready to give his life, which seems a bit late to me, no walking that press conference back, but whatevs. I like L's pocketwatch.

James comes home and Light hugs him. L calls in to make sure he's still alive. L concludes that Light is Kira. Watari asks how long he's been awake, then says that sleep is key to strong thought. L says "Trust me." I don't understand why Watari would doubt L, the logic train is pretty clear.

Light reads about Ryuk's adventures throughout history in a cafe. Illustrated!Ryuk looks very dashing.

L pops in and sits across from him. They say hi and clarify that each knows who the other is. Light asks what L is doing here; he says he's following a lead. Light says he's leaving, which, honestly, is totally appropriate because he was wearing earbuds and if you approach someone and start pestering them when they have earbuds in, you are 100% in the wrong. L asks if it was difficult, deciding not to kill his father even though that would implicate him. Light asks why L hasn't arrested him if he's so sure Light is Kira. "Because I don't do check, Light. Only checkmate." Light tells him to enjoy the gelato and stands to leave. Ryuk hovers ominously outside the window. Light sits down again and asks how L thinks Kira kills. L says that his current theory is related to remote viewing coupled with latent psychic ability. Light says "So you really have no idea, do you?" because he is not a fun enough character to run with the bullshit. I need L and Ryuk to team up together to fuck with Light.

Light leans in and says, "What if it turned out that all arresting Kira did was give that power to someone else, someone potentially much worse." L responds with, "You're suggesting the ability is somehow transferable," to which Light replies, "I'm suggesting that maybe what you and the person you're after want isn't so different and maybe they're as ready to see the killing end as you are. And if that were true, perhaps now would be a good time to start helping them instead of hunting them." If I were at all invested in this Light, I would read a thousand fanfics about the paths that confession could lead down. As it is, my main desire is to see L and Mia face off.

BALI week 1

I flew from Denver to LAX and met up with Steph, who lives in San Diego! Steph and I would were the only ones in the group not flying out of IAD. We flew from LAX, to South Korea, to Singapore, and finally Bali. The flights weren’t that bad minus the 4 hour layover in Singapore. That was the worst because so the other group had already arrived in Bali. I was anxious! I think I watched 4 or 5 movies between LAX and Bali, but whatever. No shame in my game. 

It was about a 2 hour drive from the airport to our villa in Canggu. To put things in perspective aka how cheap it is there, it was about $30 a person. Our villa was incredible. It was one of two that shared a pool. Our area was gated with a security guard, a housekeeper, and more. As soon as we got there, we changed and started drinking! That night we went to The Lawn. The vibe was something I don’t think I’ll ever experience again. Needless to say, we went back multiple times after that night. 

Every day, everyone pretty much did their own thing. The main mode of transportation is by scooter. It sounds innocent, but there are zero traffic laws, so everyone is a scooter savage. The boys rented them for the week, but the girls were too scared. The boys would venture out and sometimes invite us on the back of the scooter, but for the most part we stuck around our villa area. There was plenty within walking distance though - spas, food, shopping, etc. The spas were cheap, so I got a gel mani, pedi, and full body massage. My massage was $6 - granted it wasn’t great, but still. Sometimes someone would venture out, find a cool spot, and come back to tell us about it. Kenny did this once and we ended up at The Slow. It had a vinyl DJ; I’ve never seen anything like it! 

I will never get over how amazing the food in Canggu was. Everything was so fresh and healthy and had minimal meat. Most of the restaurants there are owned by foreigners, which makes sense. We were 100% the minority, which was straight up bizarre; most everyone was Australian or European. When people found out we were American, they were shocked .....and the Indo locals would always say “president trump”. 

The day after we got there, Omnia was having their grand opening weekend for the new Bali location. Martin Garrix was performing, so we bought tickets as soon as they went on sale. It was located in such a remote location and quite literally on the edge of a cliff. The views were beautiful! It was a day/night full of swimming, drinking, and dancing to Martin. On the way home, we had our taxi stop at McDonalds...how American of us. I hate McDonalds food whether I’m sober or drunk, but in Bali I actually liked it. Not only was their menu obviously different, but they definitely make their burgers different too - in a good way.

We went on two excursions during our time in Canggu. The first was to see the waterfalls in Sekumpul. We met our drive DeDe and started the 2 hour drive. We stopped at a lunch buffet (!) place he recommended, drove into the jungle, and stopped to meet some wild monkeys. 

We finally made it to our destination and everyone hopped on the back of a scooter with a local. They took us a few miles into the jungle through narrow and sometimes unpaved roads. We hiked literally straight down then walked another 10 minutes before arriving at the most beautiful water fall I’ll ever see in my life. It was gigantic, surrounded by greenery, casual sported a rainbow, and there were barely any other tourist. It was like our own private water fall. To recap everyone’s thoughts...Megan started crying, Steph got some prime yoga pics for her company, and Kenny did meditation in the water. We made our way to the next area via some make-shift bridges and a ton of water/slippery rocks. We were met by 3 waterfalls, one of which we were allowed to walk under. All of us were screaming and, as cheesy/weird as it sounds, just having the best time; it felt so free. 

Our guides led us back to the top and people took us to “the swing” via scooters. The swing overlooked the rice fields and a gorgeous sunset. They gave us our own fresh coconuts to drink with a straw. Honestly, it was every ones favorite day of the entire trip. I saw and experienced so many new things in one day. I couldn’t stop smiling. 

The next trip was to Ubud. DeDe took us to a coffee farm. We got to taste the coffee, tea, and chocolate that they make on site. I ended up buying some of the ginger coffee! 

Once again, DeDe picked a good spot for us to grab lunch before we spent hours at the Ubud Market. I was totally unprepared for the market...all I knew was that it was dirt cheap and you had to haggle. I’m awkward with money and hate taking advantage of people, so I had a feeling this wouldn’t come naturally. I walked around for hours just staring at everything (and everyone) trying to see what they sold and how it all worked - hence why I have zero pictures. Looking back, I wasted a ton of time. Everyone in our group bought sooo much stuff and I think I came out with maybe 5 things?! I considered it a success at the time, but I still wish I could go back and do it all over again - differently. I think we spent maybe 5ish hours just wondering around the shops. 

We got home and had plans to get dinner and check out to Pretty Poison. I’m pretty positive everyone was tired/delirious at that point, so we got drunk...fast. We ate at the pizza place up the street that is owned by a well-known Italian restaurant owner. The food was simple yet flavorful and he ordered us a round of Limoncello on the house before we left! 

We went to Pretty Poison and it will probably be one of the coolest bars I’ll ever go to. Picture an empty house with an empty pool in the backyard. The empty house was a bar with live, very chill music. The empty pool had talented skateboarders skateboarding surrounded by hundreds of people watching along the edges. We sat there and watched for awhile, so amazed at 1. how talented these skateboarders were and 2. how such a simple concept can be so epic. **My phone died and everyone took videos...barely any pictures :(

Megan and Mark were only staying for the first week (of two). On our last night as a group, we went to The Lawn for dinner..and of course, the sunset. We all put our phones on a plate and under the table. We went around telling our favorite moments of the trip thus far. It was so nice to just be in the moment. Most of us didn’t have an international plan, but it was hard not to constantly be taking pictures. It was a perfect last night together.
