This one's really great, though I'm a little surprised by it's high ranking as I only listened to it on repeat when making my silky little character playlists for the trafficverse a few months ago, and haven't since! This is why I feel Spotify year in review isn't entirely accurate for me - while I do like this song a lot, it's not always the case foe things I have to listen to repeatedly for the task nobody asked me to make myself do!

It's - it's a kenny mc - it's a kenny mccormick song to me. It just is. As for time? It's mine. He invented time travel once. [My dad] taught me that the hand that feeds deserves to be bitten when it beats.... er. Yeah. To be clear it is implied that early-on Carol was the physical abuser in the mccormick household - the first time we see the parents Stuart has a black eye and Carol is scratch-free. This changes as the show goes on, but I feel because he grew up in an abusive household Kenny wouldn't see Stuart hitting Carol back as itself physical abuse; more just... her getting what she dealt out. What he does canonically see as abuse is how they both treat their kids; Kevin, Kenny's older brother, is black and blue, so someone is beating him, and Karen his little sister is a bit scratched up but she's also heavily bullied at school, physically as well, so its not clear if she's getting this from one, the other, or both. Assumed they don't beat kenny because he's an eldritch abomination and they're scared of him. Also, kenny dresses up as a superhero a la batman and intimidates his parents into cleaning up their act a bit - unclear if this actually works out, long term, but they do promise to try and keep a job for more than a week, stop hitting each other in front of their kids, and do fewer hard drugs (but not none, and Stuart is still an alcoholic, and they still rent out their shed to random meth labs, which is a great environment for children!).

54 - Arriving Somewhere But Not Here by Porcupine Tree

YEAH PORCUPINE TREE!!! YEAH DEADWING!!!!

I've been listening to Porcupine Tree since literally before I can remeber. My dad played their music to me before I was born???

Either way: formative band. Very much part and parcel of the foundation of my music taste

Their first release was in 1991 so this band is 10 years older than me. Fun facts with Cesca!

Deadwing was released in 2005 when i was 4. I actively remeber my dad buying the CD. I don't remeber being 4. Not only listening to it before I can remeber listening to it is one of my earliest memories! Crazy how music can be so important

Arriving is the middle track of the album which makes sense because you are arriving somewhere! But not here! Carry on old chap we've still got some songs to engage with!

Its also one of the very few songs that earns its ending fading out thematically. Like yeah no shit the song fades off into the distance. You're not arriving here. You are simply passing through! The ending is not for you!

It also starts with the line 'never stop the car on a drive in the dark'. Good advice!

The second line is 'never look for the truth in your mother's eyes' bad advice.

Great song. Doesn't make sense on its own; Deadwing, along with the majority of Porcupine Tree's discog, is a concept album. Listen to the track list in order or it's just kind of odd lyrically. The songs kinda need each other to hit properly. But also I think it's one of the weaker concepts out of their discog even if it is my favourite album of the bunch (because it has the highest number of favourite tracks held within). If you want something more cohesive go with In Absentia or Fear of a Blank Planet

Now I'm just giving PT recs. Pt music my beloved. They also recently remastered a bunch of the older stuff so!!! Nows a good time to try them out!!!!! Especially fear of a blank planet. The title track, Anasthetize, and Sentimental are some of my favourite PT tracks full stop.

Ftr if I ever did make sp animatics I would exclusively upload them on April 1st. Not because it was a joke that I made them I am forever deadly serious (hehe) but. Because I feel like if you make a sp animatic and don't upload it on April 1st you're missing a trick. Crack Taken Seriously TM is like the entire point of it having a fandom I think

Anyway;

This song is Stan Marsh at its core like literally the first line basically happens in the guitar hero episode. He has a dog. He thinks his friends hate him when the clinical depression sets in at age 10. He's had several hit songs and been in a regrettable music video. Etc. And his ego is definitely not his amigo! (Once filled his room with posters of himself. Normal!)

But it's more ensemble because like the following lines. Kenny. Kyle. Etc.

The stupid medicine not doing anything is stans alcoholism. Obviously. Make actually see a doctor not a bunch of matrix wannabes about how to deal with your problems OK?

Kyle actually did get sectioned once. Famously.

Kenny doesn't open up (figuratively) but he sure does open up! (Onscreen autopsy).

And then they breakdown part.... heh..... you can already start bringing in Heidi by this point btw. Her life sucks after she starts dating cartman (obvious outcome to US. don't blame the victim!!)

Anyway yeah. Ensemble sp animatic. If only I could art good.

Complex Home Sneaker Battle: ODDONESOUTHH PICKS

Who caught Mr. Lavar Ball and Jacques Slade today on the trending Sneaker Battles today May 19, 2020?! One of the [few/many?] sneakernews productions to manifest from this RONA situation. {Shared below if you want to watch} But in a gist, they battle it out by sharing their top picks for the following categories: 1) cook out sneaker, 2) sneakers to wear if you were to play 1v1 MJ, 3) best dad shoes, 4) best autographed sneaker, 5) Battler’s choice. If ya’ll know who these people are, it’s a no brainer that Lavar came hard with some BBB’s and Jacques Slade with that sneaker [hype] knowledge. 

Thought it would be fun to do ours since why not [cause RONA]. Here’s some of our picks in no correlation to the order Complex did it in but try to guess which sneaker belongs to which category for us! 

1. Nike Dunk Sb Low Heineken: What more is there to say? The soft nubuck suede, the combination of the green and white, the black swoosh laid nicely on the “old” white leather, and topping off with a very recognizable embroidered red star. As everyone knows, this detail later on had Nike pull the project due to legal issues with the famous Dutch beer company, Heineken. Hence, another reason added to the [rising] price tag on these and a sought out pair [if not, already have] for sb heads [dunk]/sneakerheads/collectors.  [Special thanks to the plug for these, GO CHECKOUT NETMAGNETISM if you don’t already know]

2. Nike AF1 G-Dragon Peaceminusone Para-Noise: [very] well done shoe in our opinion. We gravitate towards the story of this shoe and the art behind it. As he explains, the black represents the darkness you face in life and as you keep wearing and “dealing” the black paint chips off revealing whats underneath. And through this “pealing back” of the black paint, there is that crazy layer of white splattered with vibrant colors representing some sense of freedom experienced in youth/purity. As mentioned before, it’s genuinely an unique collaboration and a shoe continuing to rise in value, especially with a [supposed] rumor of a second collaboration expected to drop late 2020. [Source @cookbeast]

3. Nike Cortez Kenny 2: Being TDE fans, it’s no doubt that we wanted a complete set/continue to add. The first Kenny was copped via SNKRS, one of the last times we won on these apps btw… And the second one was a shock drop that we didn’t get access to! For us particularly during the “shock” drop, we were in LA at the Adidas 747 event. We remember just having real sh*tty service, hoping to get access to the drop. Giving up, a couple hours later, we see some guy rocking red cortezs and questioned... could it be?... [ And yes, that guy wore a NIKE shoe to an Adidas event. He was called out by many Adidas workers/fans, but not the point] The point being we were envious of that guy who somehow copped it and simply because we didn’t have it. But this is where the handy dandy internet and StockX comes into play [because those who copped were already on that grind… thank you!] Anyways, supposedly these were limited to LA [as far as we know], therefore very little, if not, none left on the market/few people willing to sell. Moreover, this pair was one of the recent pair that made us want to have more shoes again and start collecting rather than just focusing on the selling.

4. Nike Dunk Sb Low Travis: Probably one of the most hyped shoe that came out this year [so far]. If we remember the hype around these shoes correctly [in the midst of this RONA], the shoe was going to drop, not going to drop, lists of where and how it was going to drop were changing constantly [like every hype shoe nowadays] and obviously with the TRAVIS factor, and the [more recent] dunk hype, the resell factor, the shoe was already selling for $1000+ easily. (Again, how do people get their sh*t so early, everyone has their theories) Honestly, cant lie that we didn’t hesitate at first but deciding that we were not going to obtain these at any lower prices, we had to pull the trigger on stock before the release. Reason being that we saw that the resell/people selling to us wouldn’t stray too far from the StockX/aftermarket prices. These we believed, ultimately wouldn’t plummet in the market like some other “hype” shoes. Overall in person, however, this shoe turned out to be a beauty in hand. [The more you look at the details and the color blocking, its a solid collab shoe for sure] This is definitely another one in the books of grails for Nike x Travis!

5. Air Jordan 3 Seoul: When rumors of these first surfaced, we couldn’t believe our ears/eyes. The first thing that came to mind was to book a flight out to Seoul and stand in line at Hongdae Jordan like the good old days. [Lol, not really tho because winter is no bueno there coming from privileged CA] As these were rumored to only drop in Korea, we checked plane tickets to Seoul, but was discouraged ultimately because life kicks in as an adult. [Not fun] Also, we reasoned it was much cheaper to not fly out to stand in line and resort to the people we knew. But even then none wanted to sell and most was not able to cop. We ended up paying the resell [extremely low prices at the time]. Anyways! This is a MUST for all Korean sneakerheads/collectors. **This was/is really big for Koreans and anyone who can appreciate what it means** Harmony and Progress is a saying in Korean and motto used during the 1988 Summer Olympics. For Jordan brand, Tinker Hatfield, and Dan Sunwoo, currently the Senior Director for Asia Pacific/Latin America at Nike, to cook this up for the 30th anniversary of the 1988 Seoul Olympics and using the Jordan 3 to throw it back to the one of very many great MJ moments of him winning the 1988 Slam Dunk Contest was a very special moment for Koreans. We hope to see more and more countries be part of these type of projects because everybody can use some Nike love.
