first about efnisiens physiology: when he arrived at hillview he had a lean physique. with him getting less protein and more carbs and fat, and him not working out as rigorously, has he lost those muscles? he is described as thin still but i wondered now, has he changed OR is the synthetic ardolphogen alone retaining his muscles? how theres skinny „unfit“ guys with six pack

my second question is about the omega-alpha placement testing: i always wondered your reasoning/meaning behind using different traits for alphas and omegas instead of the same (biggest example grading possessiveness in alphas but jealousy in omegas). i guess they would be capable of both so there could be an explanation for you specifically pairing them up „complementary“ if that makes sense :)

He's definitely lost some muscle tone! Like, ardolphogen helps, but we actually see he's pretty unfit overall throughout his stay, especially on the trail walks. He fatigues quickly and often needs to sleep in the afternoon. Some of that is chronic illness but some of that is also that he's not working out + still finding a new balance with the hormones. Gary also refers to him 'softening' among other things, due to him starting to eat differently.

Well, firstly, jealousy and possessiveness aren't the same thing!

Secondly, the metrics are determined on spectra that work well when paired in certain ways. High jealously pairs well with high possession, because an omega that's easily jealous feels more secure in a relationship with an extremely possessive 'you're MINE' style alpha. In reverse, an alpha feels more secure knowing how much their omega depends on them through the mechanism of jealousy and offering abundant reassurance through that.

Conversely, an alpha with low possessiveness paired with an omega that has very high jealousy, can lead to a very insecure, anxious omega. An extremely high possessive alpha with a low jealousy + high independence drive omega, can lead to an omega feeling trapped and eventually crushed.

(There are other metrics aside from jealousy and possessiveness, though these two get talked about the most in the Underline universe. Other drives are around omega dependence + independence, propensity to decision fatigue (i.e. high autonomy drive or low autonomy drive), and alphas also have other metrics they're measured on, everything from high libido to low libido, to release metric (i.e. can they let their omega go and do things on their own or are they going to have a problem with that), to overt and covert control (Caleb is a very high overt control alpha, Anton is low, Janusz is about in the middle)).

A lot of this stuff is changing even within the Underline universe because Temsen, James and Gary invented these spectra and scales themselves, as well as the tests, and they're still deciding what they mean and how well they work to pair alphas and omegas. Especially because many omegas don't get to do their own surveys/tests, in many of the cases, so staff at Hillview actually have no idea what to truly expect until an omega arrives, at which point they find out if the surveys/tests they got were accurate, or a complete lie.

Also how alphas respond to omegas can change per omega. Flexibility is needed, and none of it's rigorous or, for that matter, evidence tested outside of Hillview and maybe a handful of other radical ORFs.

As for research, I did zero research for this. I would say this comes out of like... a lifetime of just generally having an interest in affect psychology (psychology of emotions) and human drive, and then just making up some stuff that sounded good, lol.
