July
July is usually one of my busiest months. This year, we celebrated many birthdays and tried to squeeze in any outdoor activity I could around my work schedule.
Some pix from camping @ french creek on my birthday :-)
Here's some other things I enjoyed:
Movies:
In the order I saw them, oldest to newest
My Own Private Idaho - Gus Van Sant A Family Affair - Richard LaGravenese The Rider - Chloe Zhao Margaret (♥) - Kenneth Lonergan Single White Female - Barbet Schroeder Sense and Sensibility (♥ x100) - Ang Lee Now You See Me - Louis Leterrier Now You See Me 2 - Jon M. Chu The Ice Storm (♥) - Ang Lee Monkey Man - Dev Patel Jigoku - Nobuo Nakagawa 13 Assassins (♥) - Takashi Miike The Quiet Family (♥) - Kim Jee-woon Love Lies Bleeding - Rose Glass Penance (♥) - Kiyoshi Kurosawa Loft - Kiyoshi Kurosawa Knitting:
I'm working on two projects atm. Left is the Stockholm Slipover by Petite Knit and the right is the Striped Overload Polo by Spektakelstrik that I'm knitting for Buzz. I haven't had to much time to knit this month but I'm hoping to get back into my routine and finish these projects by September.
Tour:
At the end of July, 22° Halo left for tour with the lovely people in Mia Joy. I had so much fun playing music and traveling with people I love.
Pittsburgh with Michael
Toronto - We took a ferry to the island and swam in Lake Ontario. At night, we went to my favorite Tiki bar
Cleveland - We played at the Birdhouse. The show was really great, but the highlight was the house. They had a snake, an axolotl, a 15-yr-old dwarf cat and a bearded dragon. They also had a game room with a bunch of cabinets.
Chicago @ Sleeping Village
Milwaukee @ At Random - A tiki bar/ice cream bar? yes pleaseeee
I'm sad to be back from tour but also looking forward to getting back into my routine. ngl i feel pretty crazy rn..

If It’s Magic | Chapter 2
A/N: This is a bit longer than the first chapter, I’m not mad at it but I’m working towards something. No warnings...yet lol
Taglist: @great-neckpectations @wakandas-vibranium @bartierbakarimobisson @wakandan-flowerz @yaachtynoboat711 @oceanscorazon @babygirlofwakanda @storibambino @reaperdeldrunk Lucy huffed as she stood in line in the cafe, giving the barista a pleasant smile once she finally reached the front.
“Hi, I ordered a macchiato on the app under the name Lucille Owens. Is it ready?”
“I’m sorry but there’s no order here under that name,” the young man said with a bored expression on his face, signaling her to move over so he could help the person behind her. Lucy gaped at him and refused to leave the spot, much to the chagrin of the people behind her.
“Excuse me?! I’m gonna need you to check again because I know what I ordered!”
“I understand, but I don’t have your order here and there are others waiting. Either put in a new order or step aside, please.”
Lucy was about to rip into him before she felt a hand on her shoulder. She looked at Amira, who’d been quietly watching the two of them, and moved to make room for her in front of the barista.
“Listen, we have an Intro to Psych class to get to and it’s the first day. Could you put in two mocha macchiatos for me and my roommate, lease? She already paid and it’s only right.”
The male’s eyes seemed to glaze over a bit as Amira spoke, looking a bit dumbfounded. When she finished speaking he nodded and put the order in, letting the ladies know that they’d be called when they were ready. While waiting Lucy looked at Amira warily, unsure of what just happened.
Amira noticed and returned the look. “What?”
“You know damn well what. How did you do that?”
“Do what?”
Lucy glared at her and huffed. “Mira...the thing with the barista!! What was that?!”
“Oh, that. It’s a long story that I’ll explain later, when we’re alone. Please ask me something else.”
Seeming satisfied for the moment, Lucy decided to ask something that had been on her mind since their first night together.
“Fine, fine. Tell me about that fine ass dude that came to our place the other night! He was all tall dark and handsome. You said he was your friend?”
Amira silently wished she’d just answered the first question, she thought with a chuckle.
“Xavier is a lot of things. My best friend, business partner, ex-boyfriend, almost fiance-”
“Almost what now?! You not gone just speed past that like you didn’t just say he was almost your fiance. Explain, Canadian.”
“He proposed, I said no.”
Lucy’s eyes nearly bugged out through her glasses at that.
“Why the hell would you say no to that? He fine as hell, probably smart cause he goes here, and he look like he got money! Did he hit you?”
“Girl, no! It just wasn’t the right time. After some talking, we agreed to wait until after graduation.”
Lucy sat back and ended her interrogation for now, just when their orders were ready. With a wink to the barista, they left the cafe and headed to class, speed walking a bit so they wouldn’t be late.
“So you telling me she said no...and y’all are still friends? You’re better than me, dawg.”
Xavier and his roommate Daniel were in the gym exercising between classes. Currently, the latter was spotting the former in a bench press as they spoke.
“We’ve been friends since middle school, dude. Besides, it’s more of a not yet than a no. We talked and decided together that it would be better to wait until after graduation.”
As they continued to speak, Xavier finished his set and got up to switch places with Daniel, spotting him through his own bench press.
“Okay, that’s fair. But why not still be together while in school? From what I’ve seen you two still have chemistry.”
“Man, stop worrying so much about my love life and focus on yours. What happened with that cutie you took out last night? I didn’t expect to see you again until this morning.”
Daniel huffed a bit and rolled his eyes as he paused to meet Xavier’s gaze, “Dude, her friend ended up calling her crying right when we got back to her place. I feel like it was a set up but either way we said goodnight early.”
Xavier barked out a laugh as they continued their workout before hitting the showers and grabbing some food.
Amira sat cross-legged on her bed surrounded by notes and her laptop, hair pulled up into a loose top bun with a pen behind her ear as she typed away. She barely registered the front door opening and closing before Lucy was at her room’s threshold with an excited look on her face and a flyer in her hand.
“Mira, you would not believe what happened today!”
Without looking away from her laptop, Amira raised a brow as she spoke.
“You finally asked that dude out from psych?”
“What? No! I was heading back from buying my brushes and there were these women on 20th Street talking about something called ‘reproductive justice’. You ever heard of it?”
“Yeah, we learned a little bit about it in high school. Women taking charge of what happens to their bodies and shit. Why?”
“Apparently there’s going to be an event next week where they go more into detail on what it is. Would my roommate care to join?”
Amira paused her work and gestured for Lucy to give her the paper so she could look it over, shrugging a bit before she finally answered, “I don’t see why not, I like learning sometimes. Speaking of, I almost got kicked out of my Culture & Society class today.”
“It’s the second week, how the hell did you manage that?”
“I might have told the professor that he didn’t have any culture because he’s white...unless you count inbreeding, theft, murder, and beastiality.”
Lucy damn near fell over she laughed so hard, wiping the tears from the corner of her eyes as Amira shrugged once more with a laugh.
“I mean, you weren’t wrong. But you know you can’t say that to these professors! They already think they’re “aware” because they went backpacking in Denver on their parent’s dime, or decided to stop washing their hair.”
“White people wash their hair?”
“Ya know...probably not.”
They laughed once more until Amira’s phone rang, the contact name “Peachy Kins” over a picture of Jonathan popping up and not going unnoticed by Lucy.
“Wooooow. So you can talk about white people but you got one saved in your phone looking all yummy with a pet name?! Ma’am.”
“Eh, cut that shit out. That’s my brother, he’s basically off black.”
Lucy snorted as Amira answered the phone and ushered her out of the room. “Well introduce me to the black side cause he fine. Heyyyy big brother!”
“Who the fuck was that?” Jonathan’s voice hit her ear as she closed the door, shaking her head.
“My roommate. She thinks you’re cute, ignore her.”
“I mean...I like dick, so I will. Anywhore, are you by your laptop?”
“Yeah I am, why?”
“Oh, just got something you might wanna see. Call me on Skype.”
Amira made a face but hung up her phone as she pulled up Skype on her laptop, calling him right away. When he answered it was clear he was in the basement of their office building, his usual dress shirt’s sleeves rolled up before he turned the camera to face what he wanted her to see. It turned out to be one of her workers, tied to a chair and barely conscious as if he’d been drugged. She was prepared to ask what was going on but Jonathan spoke first as he walked towards the male.
“So it seems we have a mole in our midst. I had Kenneth here followed and apparently he’s been meeting with the Chief of Police when he’s not working. But apparently, he doesn’t work with you guys anymore?”
The man in question was slowly coming to, looking dazed and confused as to where he was currently. Amira leaned back slightly and shook her head, running a hand over her face.
“Oh, Kenny. Kenny, Kenny, Kenny. Nah, he doesn’t work for us anymore because he was stealing.”
“A snitch and a thief? Heavy stuff. How do you wanna handle this?”
“Given that he has nothing the cops can actually use...just put him in the hospital. I think that’s a fair punishment.”
“Alright, will do. Later babe.”
“Oh Jon, wait! Make sure he can’t have any kids? No one needs to have that burden in their lives.”
At those words, Kenneth came to slightly, struggling to get out of the chair he was tied to with increasing strength. Jonathan snorted at his attempts before looking back to his sister.
“I can see why you’d say that. On it though, I’ll keep you updated on the other shit.”
After exchanging ‘love yous’ and ending the call, Amira grabbed her phone and texted Xavier the situation to keep him in the loop. She was surprised when he opted to call instead of replying, but answered the phone regardless.
“You know I don’t like texting.”
“I know, but I figured you were busy. Actually, what is that sound?”
The sound in question was what slurping and gagging, but Amira thought she might be mistaken.
“It’s nothing important honestly,” Xavier began, prompting the girl sitting between his legs to pull her mouth from his semi-hard dick, irritation clear on her face as she inquired who the fuck he was talking to. He raised a brow at her and smirked before putting the phone on speaker and replying so that both women could hear him.
“I was talking to someone that actually knows how to suck a dick, you might wanna ask her for some pointers because your mouth is pretty sad.”
Amira’s voice floated from the phone laced with pure amusement.
“Damn, you called me while she sucked you off? That’s sad as hell. Do better, Mr. Rose.”
At this point the girl was fuming, standing and going on about how she didn’t need this shit and Xavier wasn’t that cute anyways before she let herself out. Xavier simply pulled his sweats back up as Amira cackled on the other end of the phone, no doubt wiping tears from her eyes.
“She was trying to be cute, who does that?”
“People that don’t know how to suck dick, but I digress. Did you read my text?”
“I did. Jon’s handling it right?”
“Of course. I just didn’t want to leave you out of the loop of information.”
“Mighty white of you, beautiful. Since I have you on the phone though, you got plans next week? Daniel and I are going to stage a sit-in on administration about having a BSU and it would mean a lot if you showed up. You can even bring your loud roommate.”
Amira chuckled and stood from her bed, stretching her legs and letting out a small groan.
“Lucy’s just passionate, give her a break. But let me see what my week is looking like and I’ll get back to you?”
“No problem. In the meantime, go eat.”
“How do you know I haven’t eaten?”
“Because you sound hungry. Now go eat or I’ll come over there and feed you.”
“Don’t threaten me with a good time unless you plan to follow through. But fine, I’ll eat...you can still come to feed me though,” she said with a smirk as she left her room to head towards the kitchenette.
“The hell he can! I got an early class tomorrow...” Lucy interjected as Amira grabbed some ingredients for a quick stir fry.
Daniel tried not to laugh in Xavier’s face when he relayed how he was basically shut down by Amira’s roommate, but he quickly failed.
“I’m sorry dude, but it’s funny. Why don’t you do something cute, like ask her out?”
“Because she’s my girl and I don’t have to do that? She knows how I feel.”
“And? Nigga, the same shit you did for her to be your girl, you now have to do to keep her that way. Fuck around and be single by your sophmore year.”
Xavier looked at him for a moment before shaking his head, “Nah, it’s not like that with us. We’ve always been friends first since we were kids.”
“Key word there? Kids, my nigga. Y’all grown now, and she’s gonna want to know that you don’t see that same little girl anymore.”
“...you give a lot of advice for somebody that ain’t got nobody.”
“You don’t listen and you won’t have nobody either.”
Xavier thought about Daniel’s words but brushed them off, sure that Amira knew how he felt about her already. Besides that, they’re bonded. They can’t be in love with anyone else...right?

One Yellow Rabbit’s 33rd Annual High Performance Rodeo
This year I decided to sign up as a volunteer, mostly as an usher, for the High Performance Rodeo which is a three week long international theatre festival, hosted by One Yellow Rabbit. I takes place here in Calgary every January and this year it was the 33rd year. I signed up for a lot of shows right away as the spots fill up fast.
Just before the festival began, I attended a volunteer session. Though I was late (my acting class ran over time), it was great as they went over all the shows (I found more that I wanted to see – somehow I had missed that Scott Thompson of Kids in the Hall was part of the line up), gave out door prizes (I was not lucky that day) and there were complimentary drinks and snacks (including wine and beer).
My first usher shift was on the second day of the festival, January 10, and was for Pearle Harbour’s Chautauqua. It was sold out, so I almost did not get to see the show, but in the end there was room for the volunteers. Billed as “Part Cabaret, Part Tent Revival, All Drag”, this show was a unique, intimate and interactive experience created and performed by Justin Miller as Pearle Harbour, an all-American gal and World War II stewardess. I loved its originality and the pace of the show kept the audience engaged throughout. I was so engaged that when I left the tent, I forgot I was an usher with a duty to pick up empty cups around the seats. Oops!
My second usher shift was on January 11 and was for How to Self-Suspend, written and performed by Mx Katie Sly. The piece promised to be provocative, thought-provoking and boundary pushing. We ushers were told that people may need to leave the space at some point (a few did) due to the subject matter dealing with trauma, abuse, pain, and sex. How to Self-Suspend is a performed memoir following Mx Sly escaping an abusive childhood in Montreal through to the discovery of their sexuality, gender-fluidity and eventually wholeness within themselves in the rope bondage scenes of Toronto and Vancouver. Mx Sly is a compelling storyteller who I found very likeable, which for me made the difficult subject matter easier to handle.
After a four day break I returned to the Rodeo to usher for Live Your Prime, with Damien Frost by the One Yellow Rabbit ensemble featuring Denise Clarke, Andy Curtis and John Murrell. This was a very fun and light-hearted show about an older man who had rose to fame starting with his book “Live Your Prime” and who now tours the country as a self-help guru with his son, Damien Jr. and wife, Darlene, a family who on the surface look like they have life figured out, but perhaps all is not what it seems. I loved the staging and the limited use of three, brightly coloured armchairs to create the various scenes. At the end of the festival, there were books for sale, including a lot of scripts by Canadian playwrights. With too many plays to choose from, I stuck this “non-fiction”. I bought copies of “Theatre of the Unimpressed” by Jordan Tannahill and Denise Clarke’s “The Big Secret Book”. After the festival, I got the chance to attend a talk at Poole Lawyers with Denise Clarke and so I got it signed there. Denise’s talk was about the book, Damien Frost, her life and One Yellow Rabbit which was very interesting and inspiring. My friend Denise (too many Denises!) and I had a nice chat with her afterwards too.
Crawlspace, written and performed from Karen Hines, was brilliant. The play is an account of her true- life real estate nightmare in 2006, after she purchased a tiny house in Toronto. Throughout the play, I empathized with Karen on many levels. Having worked as a REALTOR® now for nearly 12 years, I know that a real estate transaction really is all about caveat emptor (buyer beware). I have my own dead animals in houses stories (luckily not in my own residence) and I know the stressfulness of having to deal with pests and problems with the home (in my case, due to my own neglect). I also completely felt for Karen as she described how the home put her tens of thousands of dollars in debt and the traps that credit card companies created with their ever-increasing credit limits. Very inspiring and to think I almost didn’t get to see this play: first because the usher shift I signed up for was cancelled, then I was put on as an ambassador but this week warned that because it was sold out I would probably not get to see the play. I ended up doing coat check but there was room for all the ushers to watch the show so I was thrilled.
My fifth show to volunteer at was God’s Lake presented by A Castlereigh Theatre Project and Sage Theatre at the Pumphouse Theatres. The play, a work of documentary theatre, featured four actors playing members of the remote fly-in community of God’s Lake Narrows, Manitoba, following the murder of a young 15-year-old girl. The script is taken verbatim from actual interviews conducted in the community in 2017. I found this a raw and emotional piece and through the words of the community, it brought an understanding of the complex issues of life on the reserve and perhaps began to answer questions as to how a First Nations community can be torn apart by the cold-blooded murder of one of its youth. At each performance of a show during the High Performance Rodeo, a territorial acknowledgement of the Treaty 7 region is given and for this one, it was by a First Nations Elder. The performance ended with an Honour Song in which we all rose to our feet and then a short speech by the Elder indicating that as with a ceremony it is time to leave those negative thoughts with the Grandfathers and Grandmothers.
The sixth show for me was bug presented by the Manidoons Collective, written and performed by Yolanda Bonnell. The performance took place at the West Village Theatre in Sunalta and I loved how the stage was set up as if in a gathering with the audience all around. This one-woman performance was about indigenous women navigating addiction and inter-generational trauma. I found Yolanda Bonnell to be an extremely compelling and unique storyteller. At times, the story she wove was in places hard to watch and all emotional, however not without humour.
Into the final week of the Rodeo and the first show of the week for me was Café Daughter by Kenneth T. Williams, presented by Alberta Theatre Projects, starring Tiffany Ayalik and directed by Lisa C. Ravensbergen. Inspired by the early life of The Honourable Dr. Lillian Eva Quan Dyck, Café Daughter is a coming of age story about a young woman of mixed heritage (part Cree, part Chinese) growing up in Canada in the 1950s and 1960s. Filled with humour, though in parts it was emotional, I felt that this show was amazing and so well done. Tiffany Ayalik, as the sole performer, commanded the stage not only as the main storyteller, Yvette Wong, but also as all the other characters in Yvette’s life. Her physicality was awesome and I was in awe of how she smoothly transitioned between all these characters and brought them all to life.
Hammered Hamlet was a completely different experience. Presented by The Shakespeare Company and Hit and Myth Productions at the Legion, three out of the five actors downed four shots of whiskey before the show with the encouragement of the audience. This show was a total riot – what a great way to present Shakespeare! The show was supposed to only be 90 minutes with the intermission and ended up being more than two hours! I actually wished I hadn’t ushered for this one, as I think it would have been more fun to watch after a couple of drinks.
And now for something completely different…….Cow Love! Created and performed by Federico Robledo and Nanda Suc for the Société Protectrice de Petites Idées from Guingamp, France, this was 50 minutes of offbeat physical comedy. It combined acrobatics, dance, slapstick and pantomime and was thoroughly enjoyable to watch.
Macbeth Muet played at the Pumphouse Theatres on the same days as Cow Love. As both were only about 60 minutes long and both works of physical comedy, the plays were scheduled so a patron could watch them on the same night if they wanted too. As an usher, I watched them on different nights. For Macbeth Muet¸ I knew, when I was instructed to tell people that the show contains eggs and blood, that we were in for treat. Created by Marie-Hélène Bélanger, Jon Lachlan Stewart, and of course, the Bard himself, this was unique retelling of the Scottish Play without spoken words and with only two actors (Jérémie Francoeur as Macbeth and Clara Prévost as Lady Macbeth) with some help from some homemade puppets. Another steller show that I have been lucky to attend and I loved the soundtrack.
A about this time in the festival, the days are starting to meld together. A couple that came to see Cow Love on the evening I ushered for Macbeth Muet, I recognized, but thought they had attended the previous evening’s performance of Cow Love, when it actually was from Hammered Hamlet which was earlier in the week. They also were at Après de Deluge: The Buddy Cole Monologues when I was ushering for that.
The last show, for me, of the Rodeo, was Après le Deluge: The Buddy Cole Monologues, created and performed by Scott Thompson. Originally a regular Kids in the Hall character, it was a real treat to get to see it live. The Kids in the Hall was a show I got into as a teenager when I first arrived in Canada and Buddy Cole was one of my favourite characters. This show was definitely in my top three shows and as I type, my face still hurts from smiling and laughing so much. Just over halfway through, the microphone decided to play up, but Scott incorporated it in to his act. It was Buddy Cole that was having mic issues and being driven insane with sounding like he was speaking into a tin can. In the end he took off the mic (you don’t really need it anyways in the Big Secret Theatre).
After the show, Scott and his team were having a drink at the Laycraft Lounge next to the theatre as well. I thought about approaching him just to say how much I enjoyed the show, but I was too shy and just headed home with the books I had bought, though I didn’t realize I had left behind my water bottle until the train was making its way through downtown.
And so that was my first experience of the One Yellow Rabbit High Performance Rodeo. What a fantastic, but busy, three weeks. I did not see every show that was a part of the festival and there were some recurring events that I did not experience this year such as the 10-Minute Play Festival and The Veronicas (an award show where everyone wins). Of the shows I did see, I did not see one bad show, they were all unique, well done and fabulous to watch. I loved how some shows – How to Self-Suspend, Crawlspace and Bug were examples of how artists had “taken their broken heart and made art”. Generally, I was most impressed with the one-person shows, with the performer’s ability to command the space and keep the audience engaged the entire time. My top three shows for this year’s festival were Café Daughter, Après le Deluge: The Buddy Cole Monologues, and Crawlspace.
I am already excited about next year!

Breonna Taylor Update: Louisville Limits Access To Downtown Ahead Of State Attorney General’s Decision To Charge Officers In Fatal Shooting
The Louisville police department is limiting access to downtown ahead of the State Attorney General’s decision on whether to charge the police officers who took the life of 26-year-old EMT Breonna Taylor. More inside…
The city of Louisville, KY is under a "state of emergency" of sorts as police officers shut down streets in the downtown area with barricades ahead of a decision in the Breonna Taylor case.
Louisville Metro Police Department interim Chief Robert Schroeder spoke to citizens this morning, apologizing for the inconvenience, but he defended the move as necessary as we all await an announcement from Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron (R) - the first Black person to nab the title - on whether he will charge the officers who murdered Breonna Taylor during a “botched raid” back in March.
"This is not intended to be a lockdown," Interim Chief Rob Schroeder said.
Federal buildings have been closed and it’s reported officers will be expected to work 12-hour shifts. All off-days and vacation will be cancelled for officers…for now.
Check it:
So in Louisville, they are working on blocking off the entire downtown area. Fences are being thrown up, barricades coming in...everything besides arresting the cops who murdered Breonna Taylor pic.twitter.com/L66KZSuakU

Louisville officials claim they don’t know when Cameron’s decision will be announced, but the city is restricting downtown access in anticipation of protests following the decision. Sources claim a decision will be made sometime this week.
Louisville's police chief preemptively declares a state of emergency in anticipation of an announcement about Breonna Taylor's case.
This is as clear a sign as any that justice and accountability are not forthcoming. #SayHerName pic.twitter.com/OyBuI4Qr3G
— African American Policy Forum (@AAPolicyForum) September 21, 2020
The restrictions include vehicle barricades around Jefferson Square Park, where daily protests have organized previously. Officials claim the barricades won't block people from protesting, but rather will ensure their safety. Hmph. There will be limited access to parking garages in the downtown area and limited parking on the streets as well.
TRAFFIC ALERT: The city has put up concrete barriers around parts of downtown Louisville. #LMPD also placed vehicle barricades around Jefferson Square Park and the perimeter of the downtown area to ensure pedestrian safety.#WLKY #Traffic pic.twitter.com/teKsBVcsud
— Mo Rose (@WLKYMoRose) September 22, 2020
Previously, Cameron - was made special prosecutor in the case earlier this year - declined to give a timeline on the investigation.
"My office is continually asked about a timeline regarding the investigation into the death of Ms. Breonna Taylor. An investigation, if done properly, cannot follow a specific timeline," he said earlier this month.
Folks have been waiting to see if his office will bring up charges against the officers who were involved in the Breonna shooting, including Jon Mattingly, Myles Cosgrove, and detective Brett Hankison, who has been fired.
Apparently, Jon Mattingly (who was placed on administrative reassignment) recently sent an email to his LMPD colleagues, calling protesters "thugs":
The section about the enforcement of civil rights violations is particularly jarring. "..the department and FBI (who aren't cops and would piss their pants if they had to hold the line) go after you for civil rights violations." pic.twitter.com/CExRQCklO0
— Roberto Aram Ferdman (@robferdman) September 22, 2020
This is all from one of the LMPD officers who not only were involved in the raid that led to Breonna Taylor's death, but one of the three who LMPD says fired their gun. Sgt. Mattingly, who was shot in the leg that night, has been on administrative reassignment since the incident
— Roberto Aram Ferdman (@robferdman) September 22, 2020
Louisville’s mayor, Greg Fischer, posted a tweet about the “shut down”:
“We do not know when the attorney general will make an announcement, or what it will be. Our goal with these steps is ensuring space and opportunity for potential protesters to gather and express their first amendment rights, and to prepare for any eventuality to keep everyone safe.”
We do not know when the @kyoag will make an announcement, or what it will be. Our goal with these steps is ensuring space and opportunity for potential protesters to gather and express their First Amendment rights, & to prepare for any eventuality to keep everyone safe. https://t.co/S2LlFWgL0A
— Mayor Greg Fischer (@louisvillemayor) September 22, 2020
The decision on whether to charge the police officers comes days after it was reported the city of Louisville settled with Breonna’s family for $12 million (of taxpayers’ money).
Earlier this month, Breonna’s boyfriend – Kenneth Walker – announced he was suing the Louisville Metro Police Department. The 28-year-old is seeking unspecified monetary damages from the city and the police department for assault, battery, false arrest and imprisonment, malicious prosecution, abuse of process and negligence stemming from the night Breonna was killed.
The fact they are shutting down the city makes you wonder if they already know what the outcome will be...
Protesters aren't backing down though. Sadiqa Reynolds - President and CEO of Louisville Urban League - shared an update from the grounds and what's next:
I went out to the Square tonight to do two things. First to be sure the protestors understand that we should be far...

Prayers up that everyone remains safe!

Coming Attractions - June 2020
As usual, we present monthly previews of new movies being released. These are the movies what will be hitting your local cinemas television this month:
June 5th
The Last Days of American Crime - Édgar Ramírez, Anna Brewster, Michael Pitt, and Sharlto Copley star in this crime drama coming to Netflix this month based on a comic book of the same name. French director Olivier Megaton, known for helming the disappointing Taken 2 and Taken 3, directs.
Shirley - Elisabeth Moss stars as horror/mystery author Shirley Jackson in the biographical drama alongside Logan Lerman and Michael Stuhlbarg. The film premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to rave reviews.
June 12th
Da 5 Bloods - Spike Lee’s newest film is coming straight to Netflix this month. Delroy Lindo, Chadwick Boseman, and Jean Reno star in the war drama that follows four Vietnam veterans as they return to Vietnam in search of a fallen comrade (and TREASURE!).
Artemis Fowl - Instead of its planned release in late May, this Kenneth Branagh-directed adaptation of a young adult fantasy novel of the same name is now being dumped on Disney+ this month. Would I have seen Artemis Fowl in theaters? No way. Will I watch it on Disney+? Possibly.
The King of Staten Island - Judd Apatow directs Pete Davidson in this comedy where Davidson stars at the titular King of Staten Island. It is sad that an Apatow film is being thrown on-demand instead of its promised wide-release, but times are a-changing.
June 19th
Miss Juneteenth - After premiering at Sundance to excellent reviews, Miss Juneteenth follows a single mother as her daughter participates in a local Miss Juneteenth pageant in Texas, the film will be released digitally on the 155th anniversary of Juneteenth.
June 26th
Irresistible - Jon Stewart wrote and directed this political comedy starring Steve Carell, Chris Cooper, Topher Grace, and Rose Byrne. Irresistible will be released on-demand after it’s scrubbed May release in theaters.
Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga - Will Ferrell, Rachel McAdams, Pierce Brosnan star in this comedy coming to Netflix which follows a pair of Icelandic singers as they represent their country at the Eurovision Song Contest.
Now for a quick look ahead to July, my top picks for next month are Tenet and Mulan - if theaters actually reopen, and Hamilton (on Disney+) and Palm Springs (on Hulu) - if they do not.
