If you have ever been curious about vixx pairing names in korean, I believe these are the most common ones!
(there are two for each because the name that goes first always signifies who tops--so most fans kinda treat them as different pairings)
엔택 (NTaek) / 택엔 (TaekN)
엔켄 (NKen) / 켄엔 (KenN)
엔랍 (NRav) / 랍엔 (RavN)
연홍 (YeonHong) / 홍차 (Hongcha)
엔혁 (NHyuk) / 혁엔 (HyukN)
택켄 (TaekKen) / 켄택 (KenTaek)
택식 (TaekSik) / 랍택 (RavTaek)
택콩 (TaekKong) / 콩택 (KongTaek)
택혁 (TaekHyuk) / 혁택 (HyukTaek)
켄랍 (KenRav) / 랍켄 (RavKen)
켄홍 (KenHong) / 홍켄 (HongKen)
켄혁 (KenHyuk) / 혁켄 (HyukKen)
랍콩 (RavKong) / 콩랍 (KongRav)
랍혁 (RavHyuk) / 혁랍 (HyukRav)
콩혁 (KongHyuk) / 혁콩 (HyukKong)
#talks#vixx#if you ever want to look up your favorite pairing and see what korean fans are posting i think it can be pretty fun#most chasang fans just post something along the lines of (i miss nhyuk)#relateable#but i mean#they were pretty active this era tbh? so#its not that bad

1. soulmate!au kenhyuk
“what if the bruises you see on your body and you don’t realize you have it belongs to your soulmate.”, jaehwan reads aloud a article he came across from the net with wonshik in the library and laughs at it until the librarian, taekwoon had to hush them.
at the football field not too far away, hyuk discovers a light bruise he didn’t knew he had on his knee just at the same time jaehwan had knocked his knee against the computer desk. “another one?”, hakyeon asked, shaking his head.
2. time traveller!au neo
hakyeon brushes his fingertips against the cold, mahogany of the stairs, taking in the sight of the very familiar homey landscape. He comes to a abrupt stop when his eyes meets a familiar pair, the latter plastering a shock look.
“Hakyeon?”, the other lets out a soft, breathy yet tired exclamation. “Y-You’re.. alive? B-but how? So young.. like when you’re.. 23.”
“Long story short. I’m Hakyeon of the past.”
3. vixx holds catwalk in drags
“taekwoon hyung isn’t joining. he’ll beat anyone up if they try to put him in a dress.”, sanghyuk says as he puts on the tank top wonshik has toss him.
“he can be the judge then,”, hakyeon puffs his cheeks, already done adorning himself in a a gothic patterned long sleeves and shorts, following up a stocking that shows the curves of his legs. He adjust his red, ponytail-tied wig, a smile plastered in satisfaction to his lips.
hongbin and jaehwan were settling for a dress, similarly to each other’s though hongbin decides to go for a darker coloured while adorning his style with black platforms and a blonde shoulder length wig in braids while jaehwan had gone for something vivid, choosing simple flats and a wig similarly to Anna’s hair. Yes, Frozen’s Anna’s hair.
wonshik had gone for something similarly to a rocker’s, adorning a short raven hair as he puts on his ‘gears’ as he would call them. “You look like a gothic-wannabe”, sanghyuk remarks, himself already dressed in the tank top wonshik had tossed earlier and pulls on a cropped top along with pinning a rather colourfully braided wig. He wears a skirt, a floral one. “Now I understand why girls like them. It’s so breezy down under.”
taekwoon sits by the couch, the usual one that settles by the door of their dance practice room, shaking his at his fellow members before focusing his attention back to the honey flavoured bag of chips in hand.

--
Jaehwan fishes his phone out of his pocket and types in his passcode when it dings, letting him know he has a message.
hyukkie: jaehwan can i ask a favor? it’s kind of weird
He smiles to himself when he reads who the sender is, curling up on the couch to type a reply.
super cool hwannie: of course!
hyukkie: my friends won’t stop making fun of me, can you pretend to be my boyfriend
Jaehwan gapes at his phone, an expression that surely would have gotten him some sort of ridicule had Sanghyuk been right in front of him. Thankfully, his dignity was intact, so thus he simply replied: “of course!”
A few days later, Sanghyuk arranges some sort of “meet the boyfriend” thing with his friends, presenting Jaehwan proudly to them and grinning when they make faces and noises of awe, shoving at Sanghyuk and demanding to know why they didn’t tell him about Jaehwan sooner.
Jaehwan plays along beautifully, and had he been an actor he would have demanded at least 3 nominations. The thing is, as Sanghyuk’s friends crowd around him and ask questions about their relationship (“Have you kissed?”, “When did you meet?”, “Where do you like to go on dates?”), and as Jaehwan has to make up answers (“Of course!”, “On the street, he was so beautiful that I couldn’t help but speak to him!”, “Wherever Sanghyuk wants to go.”), he finds himself wishing all of that had actually happened.
A few hours pass before Sanghyuk’s friends go home and leave them alone in the small cafe, Sanghyuk looking drained and flustered. He leans over and lays his head on the table and Jaehwan reaches over and pats him gently. “There there, it’s alright. It wasn’t that bad, was it?”
Sanghyuk groans in response, sitting up again and looking grumpy. “It made me feel bad, I didn’t want you to have to lie for me.”
“Well, you shouldn’t have told them you had a boyfriend when you didn’t. But, then,” Jaehwan pauses to sip on his now-cold coffee, “you would have missed out on all of this beautiful charm and charisma.”
Sanghyuk laughs, perking up a bit. “All they could ask me when I told them I had a boyfriend was ‘is he hot?’, so I was like, oh, god, who do I know that’s hot that doesn’t go to my school?” He gives a pointed look to Jaehwan and Jaehwan puts a hand to his chest.
“You mean you think I’m hot? This is groundbreaking news, we’re making strides. We need to keep up the boyfriend facade, by the way, you never know when we could meet one of your friends somewhere.” Jaehwan smiles, holding out his hand, and Sanghyuk shyly takes it. “There. Now compliment me.”
“Oh my god, you’re the worst.” Sanghyuk groans, dramatically slumping back over to lay his head on the table once more. But he doesn’t let go of Jaehwan’s hand.
--
“We have to spend more time together, also.”
“Oh my god,” Sanghyuk says from the other end of the line.
“It has to be authentic! Besides, what do you even know about me? What if someone asks you what my favorite color is, will you know?”
There’s a long pause before Sanghyuk changes the topic to Jaehwan’s own friends. University friends that could care less about Jaehwan’s love life, but that hasn’t stopped Jaehwan from telling them he has a fake boyfriend. Hakyeon freaked out nonetheless, but still.
“Wow, you told them?” Sanghyuk asks incredulously, and Jaehwan makes an affirmative noise. “That’s- wow, alright. So we’re officially fake dating, that’s weird.”
“I know! I love it, let’s keep doing it.”
There’s some sort of strangled, flustered noise in response, and Jaehwan laughs.
Sanghyuk announces that he’s going to bed shortly after, and Jaehwan coos an, “I love yoooou,” into the receiver. There’s a long pause before Sanghyuk sighs and responds with a flat I-love-you of his own, unenthused and out of obligation. It still makes Jaehwan smile.
--
“This is a fake date for fake people, like us.” Jaehwan says grandly, taking Sanghyuk’s hand and leading him into the ice cream parlor. “We’re going to have a good time as friends, and then if we see someone you know we have to instantly begin making out. It’s the rules.”
Sanghyuk chokes, presumably on air, and Jaehwan grins at him and swings their hands slightly as they walk up to the counter. He doesn’t release Sanghyuk’s hand as they sit down, squeezing it tighter before he has to relinquish it to let Sanghyuk peruse the small menu they’re handed. Sanghyuk eventually orders plain chocolate, and Jaehwan orders some sort of elaborate deal that he can barely remember himself. He just hopes it tastes good.
“Hey, by the way,” Sanghyuk says, not waiting for Jaehwan to grab his hand again and doing it himself, “since you’re my fake boyfriend, does that mean you can tutor me for free?”
“Of course, I love being used for my talents.” Jaehwan responds, nodding eagerly and smiling when Sanghyuk laughs.
“I’ll definitely use you for your talents, I have a math exam soon and I’m definitely going to fail the entire course if I don’t do some serious studying. I have to make at least an 80 to pass, ‘cause I’ve been failing the entire year, please help me.” He raises his head as a waitress walks towards them with their bowls of ice cream.
“Of course I’ll help you, do you want me to come over this weekend?”
Sanghyuk nods, holding out his hands to take the bowls presented to them and pushing Jaehwan’s monstrosity towards him. “That looks disgusting, I hope you enjoy it.”
“Thanks. Just remember, if someone appears, this? This is going to be all in your mouth.”
“Oh my god, stop.”
--
Jaehwan stares at the numbers on the page, blinking as he tries to process the question, then slowly puts the notebook down and slides it across the table. “What the fuck.”
“I know!” Sanghyuk yells, slamming his hand down on the notebook. “It’s bullshit, how do I even do this!”
“I think I’m going to need several years of therapy after looking at that for more than 5 seconds, I’m really sad right now.” Jaehwan says dramatically, getting up out of the floor and walking to Sanghyuk’s kitchen.
“Bring me a soda!” Sanghyuk calls after him, and Jaehwan complies, returning with two brightly colored cups filled with an off-brand cola. He puts them on the table and sits down again, sipping his soda and watching as Sanghyuk tries, desperately, to figure out the equation he’s been given.
“Dear,” Jaehwan begins gently, setting his cup back down, “I think I see brain cells dying, please stop looking at that.”
Sanghyuk groans, pushing the math work to the other end of the table and dragging his hands down his face. “I’m so going to fail.”
“This is notably un-boyfriend, we should do something better. Do you have any good movies?”
Sanghyuk visibly brightens, getting up quickly and shuffling to the entertainment center. “Oh my god- do you like horror movies?”
“I’m open to anything you like, dear.” Jaehwan says, leaning back so his head is resting on the couch cushion.
Sanghyuk nods enthusiastically, selecting an American horror movie from the early 2000s and putting it in the DVD player, coming to sit on the couch. Jaehwan remains in the floor, leaning over so he can rest his head against Sanghyuk’s knee, and Sanghyuk pats the top of his head.
Jaehwan ends up falling asleep, even while there’s demonic screaming and explosive blood spatter occurring on-screen. He wakes up to Sanghyuk hunched over, stroking his hair and whispering, “I really need to go pee.”
“Go pee, then.” Jaehwan groans, shifting so he’s not hindering Sanghyuk from getting up any longer. Sanghyuk hurries off to the bathroom and Jaehwan rubs his eyes, looking to see the credits rolling on-screen. He’s still not sure what the movie was about, all he knows is that Sanghyuk played with his hair almost the entire time and apparently didn’t want to disturb him by getting up, even with his fragile bladder in danger.
Sanghyuk reappears, holding out a hand to presumably help Jaehwan up. Jaehwan takes it, but instead of using him as a support, he drags Sanghyuk into his lap. Sanghyuk makes an indignant noise, blushing, but Jaehwan holds him fast, snuggling his face into his neck.
Sanghyuk doesn’t put up any real fight, even though he seems hopelessly embarrassed, and eventually he sighs and lays his head on Jaehwan’s shoulder. Jaehwan pauses a moment, looking at him out of the corner of his eye, and then he asks, “Sanghyuk, why did you say you had a boyfriend?”
“What? To seem cool, my friends are all dating someone, so they were making fun of me.” Sanghyuk shifts, pressing his face into Jaehwan’s neck. “I told you that.”
“No, I mean- why didn’t you say you had a girlfriend, instead?”
“Uh, because I don’t know any girls that aren’t dating my friends?” Sanghyuk laughs, pulling his knees up so he’s curled into a ball. “And because- I dunno, it’s like, my friends are always being dragged around by their girlfriends. But Sungjae- he’s dating this guy named Ilhoon, right, and Ilhoon never really does that. So I guess I just thought, man. Maybe if I ended up having a boyfriend, it wouldn’t be so bad.”
Jaehwan nods knowingly, watching as Sanghyuk’s cat comes walking through. He wants to say something, but he’s not sure what-
“Can I kiss you?”
Jaehwan blinks, turning his head to look at Sanghyuk, who raises his head to look at Jaehwan in turn. “What?” Sanghyuk repeats what he said, slower for emphasis, and Jaehwan smiles. “Well, we are fake dating, we might as well. Practice for if your friends see us.”
Sanghyuk laughs, leaning in to first bump his forehead against Jaehwan’s. “I’ve only kissed a girl when I was 7.” He says quietly, cheeks pink.
Jaehwan raises his hands to cup Sanghyuk’s face, smiling wider. “I’ve been told a kiss from me is like a kiss from the angels.”
“That’s a lie,” Sanghyuk says quickly, and then Jaehwan closes the distance between them, a soft kiss that doesn’t last very long. A few moments pass before Sanghyuk asks softly, “Can we do that more?”
“Of course.”
--
“Well, you’re working off of the pretense that you already like each other, right?”
Jaehwan nods, and Hakyeon makes a thoughtful noise, taking a drink of his iced coffee. “I don’t think it’d be that hard to lead into, I mean- just do it like you do everything else.”
“With utmost grace and beauty?” Jaehwan offers, posing and batting his eyelashes.
“With outlandishness and stupidity.” Hakyeon corrects, grinning. “He’ll be smitten for sure.”
Jaehwan sticks out his tongue, mock offense in his tone when he speaks. “I can’t believe you’re offending me like this, I paid for those 3 cookies you ate.”
“It wasn’t 3-”
“You’re right, it was 4!” Jaehwan laughs when Hakyeon shoves his shoulder. “Weren’t you really worried about your figure in high school, what happened?”
“Laziness happened, university in general happened- my first hangover happened, I think that changed my life.”
Jaehwan nods sagely, taking another drink of his own coffee. “I understand. Well, thank you I suppose, but you also want me to buy you dinner, right?”
“Obviously, I can’t leave the house without getting someone to buy something for me.”
“Charming as ever.”
--
Despite Jaehwan’s mock anger, outlandish was definitely an adjective that stuck easily. So he shows up at Sanghyuk’s house the following weekend with a very small, pathetic bouquet of flowers that he picked himself and a slice of chocolate cake from one of his friends’ birthday parties.
“Oh, I- what is this for?” Sanghyuk says after he’s opened the door and properly taken in the sight.
“It is for an anguished confession of my undying love, what else?” Jaehwan says loudly, bowing and holding out his gifts. “Please, Sanghyuk, accept my heart’s bounty.”
“I- oh my god. Is this for real?” Sanghyuk asks, gently taking the flowers and the plate from Jaehwan and stepping aside so Jaehwan can come inside.
“Of course! How can I simply forget about your soft touch and strange habits, like leaving half-empty glasses of soda laying around and eating paper when you think nobody’s looking?”
Sanghyuk is quiet for a moment before he whispers, “You’ve seen me do that?”
Jaehwan laughs, kicking off his shoes before leaning toward Sanghyuk, whispering, “You ate half of your math homework sheet, I know.”
“Fuck.”
Jaehwan laughs again, stepping inside and going to sit on the couch. “Where’s your parents?”
“At work, they only get Sundays off.” Sanghyuk answers, coming to sit beside Jaehwan, looking more than a little awkward. “I- are you serious about this?”
Jaehwan scoffs, tossing his hair. “Who do you take me for, why would I put so much effort into something like this if I wasn’t serious?”
“Um, because you’re you?”
“... Well. True. Alright, ahem.” Jaehwan stands up again, posing dramatically in the middle of the living room and staving off a laughing fit when he hears Sanghyuk’s quiet ‘oh no’. “Han Sanghyuk! My beloved child, the prince of my heart, my fake boyfriend of 2 months. From this day forward!” Jaehwan points at Sanghyuk, trying to keep his face as serious as possible. “We are romantically involved! And you can’t stop me!”
“Oh my god.” Sanghyuk says flatly, rubbing a hand over his face. “Alright, well, how can I stop you after you’ve done all this? Please sit down, you’re embarrassing me.”
“I aim to please.” Jaehwan responds, sitting back down and snuggling up to Sanghyuk. “Now eat your cake, I’ve had that for 3 days. But it’s relatively fresh, don’t worry.”
Sanghyuk eyes the cake before slowly placing it on the table, pushing the plate away from him and making Jaehwan laugh.
“A good call, I’m proud of you.” Jaehwan remarks, turning his head to kiss Sanghyuk’s cheek. “I loooove you.”
“I- I love you too,” Sanghyuk says softly, cheeks flushing. “But, um, the next time you bring flowers? I need better.”
“You’re so fussy! Be happy with what I give you, dear, most people don’t get that much.”
“Wilted weeds do not make me feel special.”
“You know Sanghyuk, I already don’t know if this relationship is going to work out.”

☆.。.:*・° with you by my side, feel the energy tonight
Group: Vixx
Pairing: Sanghyuk and Jaehwan with a hint of Sanghyuk and Hongbin
Rating: PG-13
Warning: —-
Summary: Jaehwan use to be human and Jaehwan use to be alive.
a/n; this was inspired partially by error and majorly by robocop.
~
When he was alive, or rather when he was human, he use to always laugh and make lame jokes which would in turn always make Sanghyuk laugh. Hongbin reminds him that he's still both; alive and human, but when Jaehwan meets Sanghyuk for the first time (the first time that Jaehwan can remember, though Sanghyuk's expression seems to say otherwise), he wonders if Hongbin had been lying to him.
(Because Hongbin lies a lot, especially to Sanghyuk and Jaehwan, and especially to himself.)
---
Sanghyuk doesn't visit often at first, those days seem long and empty with only Hongbin for company and Jaehwan will admit that seeing a different face now and then is always satisfying. Sanghyuk is young, he's young but bright and at first his smiles seem laboured and his body tense around Jaehwan, but one day he has a small box wrapped in colorful paper and he gives it to Jaehwan with something genuine sparkling in his eyes.
"Open it," says Sanghyuk.
"This isn't going to work," comes a voice from the corner of the room and Jaehwan knows it's Hongbin.
Sanghyuk scowls but otherwise ignores him, so Jaehwan carefully unwraps the box (it looks pretty and he wonders why he enjoys the wrapping paper so much) and when it's open and there for him to see, he's all but confused.
"What... Is it?"
Sanghyuk's face falls. Hongbin makes an indignant noise before leaving the room and Jaehwan thinks he's done something wrong.
Sanghyuk seems to catch on to this because he smiles again (forced) and takes Jaehwan's hand. "It's okay. It's a Chopper figurine, he's a character from an anime that you and I use to watch together."
And that's the first indication that Jaehwan and Sanghyuk use to know each other; the first time Jaehwan thinks something is different.
"What is anime?" He asks because the word is so foreign. Sanghyuk's brow furrows but his smile remains.
"It's uh... Like, a show. It's Japanese cartoons, basically. I'll show you next time," he promises Jaehwan and suddenly Jaehwan is a little more excited for Sanghyuk's next visit.
---
The first time they watch One Piece, Jaehwan has so many questions that at one point through the first episode, Sanghyuk looks like he's realizing this was a bad idea. Hongbin's watching from the kitchen, stifling his laughter whenever Sanghyuk lets out a groan.
"Just... Just watch," he says after the seventh time Jaehwan questions the anatomy of the characters. When Sanghyuk leaves, Hongbin tells him that he's probably annoyed the younger male away.
The very next day though, Sanghyuk arrives with different 'mangas' and more videos to watch with Jaehwan, he doesn't leave until he's answered all of Jaehwan's questions from the previous day (Jaehwan can't help but notice the notepad sticking out of Sanghyuk's coat pocket).
That's when the visits become more frequent, even Hongbin's mood seems to improve with Sanghyuk around and Jaehwan starts to understand what having a good time is.
---
The first time he laughs, it startles him so much, he thinks he needs a maintenance check.
"It's natural," Hongbin tells him, "Hyuk and I do it all the time. Humans do it all the time, just view it as you improving."
When Sanghyuk hears it the first time (Jaehwan laughs involuntarily because Sanghyuk had forgotten his bus pass that day and had to walk three miles to Hongbin's) the younger's face contorts into an expression Jaehwan's only seen animated on screen.
"Well at least your misfortune is still humorous to him," Hongbin throws over his shoulder as he leaves the two alone.
Sanghyuk scowls as usual but his attention is too focused on Jaehwan.
"Are you... Okay?" Jaehwan asks when a moment of stillness passes them.
Sanghyuk rubs at his eyes and nods, "Yeah. I haven't heard that sound in a while or... Seen you do it."
Before Jaehwan can ask anymore questions, Sanghyuk gets up to start up the old DVD player in Hongbin's living room and Jaehwan follows him, silently.
---
After laughing and smiling become natural to Jaehwan, Hongbin begins to change his weekly maintenance routine.
"Is this something Sanghyuk does too?" Questions Jaehwan when Hongbin slides a metal helmet with different knobs and cranks on it over his head and his vision darkens.
"No," Hongbin answers, "Sanghyuk and I are different from you." A snort. "Everyone's different from you, actually."
He starts typing things on his computer and Jaehwan feels blank at first, empty before something warm starts to fill in his core and he's concerned that something's gone wrong, but Hongbin doesn't stop the procedure so Jaehwan deals with the stirring in his-- he actually can't name where the stirring is coming from.
It happens for the next three months and then one day, Jaehwan has an image appear in his head when he's watching Naruto with Sanghyuk.
"We went to the mountains once. You got lost and I got... Scared." His face scrunches up as he tries to play the images more clearly. "I found you by the river near a shrine and you looked so... So, well how you look right now." Jaehwan finishes when he turns to his side and sees Sanghyuk's eyes round and wet, lips trembling.
Sanghyuk doesn't say anything, he just stands and leaves. He doesn't take his coat or his keys, he just walks out once Jaehwan looks at him.
Minutes later and Hongbin walks into the room, eyes scanning Jaehwan before asking, "Where's Hyuk?"
"I think I must have annoyed him away again."
Hongbin hums softly as he grabs Sanghyuk's things and he tells Jaehwan to continue watching his anime and it isn't until hours later that Hongbin returns, tired and dazed.
"Is Sanghyuk upset with me?" Jaehwan asks carefully and Hongbin looks so exhausted, Jaehwan briefly wonders if he always looks this way.
"No. But I don't think he'll be coming around for a while."
That's all Hongbin says before retreating downstairs to the lab, leaving Jaehwan to do whatever he pleases.
---
There has always been one rule for Jaehwan.
Do not leave the house.
He breaks this rule once the third week of no Sanghyuk has passed.
"How did you--" Sanghyuk breaks off to pull Jaehwan inside quickly, worry splattered all over his face.
"Does Naruto ever become Hokage?" Jaehwan asks once the door shuts behind them and Sanghyuk locks it.
"What?" He questions and so Jaehwan asks again. "I don't know, they haven't-- Jaehwan, why are you here?"
"I needed to ask you that," answers Jaehwan, his face flat but his voice running with different things that he can't seem to label.
Sanghyuk looks like he could either strangle him or get his eyes all wet and runny again. "You," he pauses, "You use to always do things like this."
"Like what?" Jaehwan asks.
"Come randomly in the middle of the day or night to ask me nonsensical questions," Sanghyuk says with a breath of relief. "Does Hongbin know you're here?"
"No," Jaehwan answers quickly and then, "So we have met before."
The younger male twists his mouth uncomfortably and then walks into his apartment, "Sit down. I'm gonna call Hongbin."
"Sanghyuk, you didn't give me an answer." Jaehwan pulls on his sleeve.
"We'll talk, just let me call Hongbin first, okay?" Sanghyuk says gently but he removes himself from Jaehwan's grasp.
When Sanghyuk gets off the phone with Hongbin, he lets out a tired sigh and says, "The day we went to the mountains was when your mom took us in the summer. I was only eight back then. We snuck away from the group and actually, you were the one who left me behind and that's how I got lost."
Sanghyuk's looking at the ceiling, "It wasn't until nearly sunset that you found me and then we wandered around aimlessly until nightfall before a ranger located us."
Silence before, "I was so scared. I thought we were going to be eaten by wolves."
And Sanghyuk laughs at that, albeit strained. "I wouldn't have figured, you seemed so sure we were headed in the right direction, you held my hand and wiped my snot the entire time."
"I... Remember that. I was just trying to be brave," Jaehwan confesses even though all this information is new and yet not to him. "I was still afraid, you know." He manages a weak smile and so does Sanghyuk.
"We've known each other since I was six," says Sanghyuk after he swallows a lump in his throat. "Neighbors until my third year of middle school when my parents thought it'd be fun to live in the countryside."
"Oh," is all Jaehwan manages before asking, "Did we not keep in touch?"
Sanghyuk shakes his head, "No, we did. E-mails and the occasional text, but it wasn't the same."
"Then why did I forget--"
"Jaehwan, that doesn't matter. We're... Different now. Everything's changed now."
"Hongbin says... That I'm still human. But, I don't feel like it," Jaehwan's eyes sting, but he ignores it. "Is that how we're different?"
It takes a while but eventually Sanghyuk says, "We should get you home."
---
Hongbin's weekly maintenance gradually becomes something Jaehwan looks forward to because each time more images (memories, Sanghyuk tells him) start to appear and other things along with it. He starts to feel diffent stirrings too (emotions, Hongbin reminds him) like happiness when he sees Sanghyuk or longing when Sanghyuk isn't around. Sometimes he even gets the urges to touch or press his lips against Sanghyuk's, but he surpresses those, especially whenever Hongbin is around with his sly glances and smirks.
Then one day, Jaehwan seems to remember something important.
"It's July 5th," he says and then looks over at Hongbin who's actually dressing himself nicely today.
"That's what the calendar says," Hongbin replies. "Did you remember something just now?"
Jaehwan suddenly doesn't anymore.
"No."
"I'll be gone today." Hongbin pulls a small box from his pocket and checks it before putting it back and then sparing a glance at Jaehwan. "You are not to leave the house," he says and it sounds more like a command.
Jaehwan nods helplessly and spends all of July 5th in longing to see Sanghyuk.
---
The emotion that hits him next is jealousy. Suddenly things change in his surroundings and Jaehwan can't help but notice how much more time Hongbin spends in the same room with them than he used to. He makes snide comments about Luffy or Sasuke and sometimes Jaehwan catches Hongbin leaning into Sanghyuk's side and whispering things that turn the younger bright shades of red.
And then Jaehwan hears them one night.
Sanghyuk sleeps over and Jaehwan's hooked to his battery downstairs in the lab, but something (perhaps the jealousy) causes him to walk silently upstairs and stand in front of Hongbin's door. He can see the lowlight stream in through the cracks of the door and he can hear the creaks of the bed, Hongbin's harsh breathing and-- Jaehwan floods out the rest of the noises and in the morning, Hongbin and Sanghyuk find him sitting on the living room couch with only 30% of battery life left.
"Jaehw-"
"Itachi dies," he interrupts.
Hongbin pats Sanghyuk on the back before slipping away downstairs and the younger male glances at the TV that's still playing.
"Have you been up all night watching this?" Sanghyuk asks and Jaehwan finally peels his eyes away from the television set.
"July 5th. That was your birthday, you're eighteen now."
Something in Sanghyuk breaks, Jaehwan doesn't know what but the other's face shows it all too clear.
"I... turned eighteen four years ago." Sanghyuk's eyes are wet again and this is an occurrance that Jaehwan's seen too many times but doesn't understand how to stop it.
Does he do what the characters in the anime do?
Does he do what his body wants him to do?
Instead he shifts awkwardly in his seat and asks, "Then how old does that make me?"
Sanghyuk wipes at his eyes and takes the empty seat by Jaehwan, which surprises him. "Well, you're four years older than me so... twenty-six."
"Oh." It's all he can manage to say because he doesn't know how else to handle this situation.
Sanghyuk makes himself breakfast and carries Jaehwan's battery charger upstairs, hooks him up and they spend all day watching Naruto together and imitating the characters.
---
At some point Jaehwan realizes that he isn't supposed to be alive anymore. There's a four year gap somewhere and it isn't just the age difference between he and Sanghyuk anymore.
It's Hongbin who tells him.
"There was an accident, Sanghyuk came to me," Hongbin explains as he types mindlessly at his computer, a thousand numbers relaying faster than Jaehwan can comprehend. "He asked me to fix you, so I did."
"Did I die?" He asks.
"Partially, your brain did for the most part... But it was still functioning well enough for me to make you stable. Your body wasn't too salvageable though and most of what you are is mechanical now."
"I'm... Different." The word never seemed to make so much sense as it did now.
"Different in many ways," Hongbin says with a bored sigh, "But still the same."
"How?" Jaehwan asks because he honestly can't imagine how not having a pulse is being the same as anyone else. As being the same as Sanghyuk.
Hongbin lets out a cynical scoff and he turns away from his computer to look at Jaehwan. "Ask Sanghyuk that and see what he says."
---
Sometimes Jaehwan has memories floating in his mind when he closes his eyes, the images are never too clear, but he can vividly remember them, feel the grass on his toes, the sun in his hair. He can taste the salt on his tongue, feel the rain sink down in his skin. Sometimes Jaehwan remembers what being human is like and sometimes Jaehwan remembers what loving Sanghyuk was like.
It was painful. It hurt a lot.
Loving Sanghyuk was not easy, not when the younger was miles and miles away and always talking about all the different crushes on pretty girls he'd get. Not when Sanghyuk told Jaehwan he might be gay and have mutual feelings for a senior at his high school. It especially was hard when Sanghyuk told him he was moving back to Seoul, to attend college there and that his boyfriend lived there too.
It was the hardest when Jaehwan met him for the first time, wide smile and dimples galore, a strong chin and many more handsome features. He's like artwork, is what Jaehwan remembers thinking. And he remembers the blush that crept on Sanghyuk's face, the shy smile that followed when Sanghyuk introduced the two.
But maybe Jaehwan is wrong, maybe that wasn't the hardest thing about loving Sanghyuk.
Perhaps the hardest thing was falling for Sanghyuk all over again.
