(White Man) In Hammersmith Palais
The Clash
Midnight to six man
For the first time from Jamaica
Dillinger and Leroy Smart
Delroy Wilson, your cool operator
Ken Boothe for UK pop reggae
With backing bands sound systems
And if they've got anything to say
There's many black ears here to listen
But it was Four Tops all night with encores from stage right
Charging from the bass knives to the treble
But onstage they ain't got no roots rock rebel
Onstage they ain't got no roots rock rebel
Dress back jump back, this is a bluebeat attack
'Cause it won't get you anywhere
Fooling with the guns
The British Army is waiting out there
An' it weighs fifteen hundred tons
White youth, black youth
Better find another solution
Why not phone up Robin Hood
And ask him for some wealth distribution
Punk rockers in the UK
They won't notice anyway
They're all too busy fighting
For a good place under the lighting
The new groups are not concerned
With what there is to be learned
They got Burton suits, ha, you think it's funny
Turning rebellion into money
All over people changing their votes
Along with their overcoats
If Adolf Hitler flew in today
They'd send a limousine anyway
I'm the all night drug-prowling wolf
Who looks so sick in the sun
I'm the white man in the Palais
Just lookin' for fun
I'm only
Looking for fun
I'm only
Looking for fun

Various - Inna de Yard
Tumblr media
REVIEW Various - Inna De Yard Label: Chapter Two Records | Format: CD-DBL LP-DR | Street date: April 12, 2019 This new compilation, the follow up to the 2017 released "The Soul Of Jamaica", brings together some of the legendary voices of reggae music like Kiddus I, The Viceroys, Cedric Myton, Winston McAnuff and Ken Boothe, with younger artists such as Jah9, Var, Derajah, representatives of the new reggae stage. newcomers to this project are Judy Mowatt and the great Horace 'Sleepy' Andy. Most of the songs, if not all, are truly entertaining acoustic versions of previously recorded tunes by these artists. Kiddus I's "If You Love Me", a reggae version of Edith Piaf's "l'Hymne à l'Amour", was part of his album "Take A Trip", while Ken Boothe's reggae version of Bread's pop song "Everything I Own" reached Number One in the UK Singles charts on October 26, 1974. Winston McAnuff brings a version of his mid-1970s scorcher "Malcolm X", which actually was given wider recognition when Dennis Brown recorded this song in 1977. Next comes Cedric Myton's beautiful reworking of one of the Congos' all-time classics, "Row Fisherman". Also The Viceroys perform a classic tune. "Ya Ho" is one of their best known and most loved songs, originally recorded for Studio One in 1968. Read the full article

Nana Genesis - Speak Softly Live & Direct at YouTube
Having started singing and performing at the age of six for family and friends, writing her first song at the age of thirteen and leading harmonies in school productions, Nana always loved to perform using her voice.
Nana successfully joined the London Allstars Steel Band and played at the famous Notting Hill Carnival and began to take up guitar lessons. Whilst still at school, Nana auditioned to be part of the band, Ezeke and Aqua Vita. She got the job, but was not able to tour with them until she finished school. Having completed her education, Nana went on to tour the world tour with Aqua Vita at sixteen, meeting and sharing the stage with Natalie Cole, Ella Fitzgerald, Cher and Ben Vereen. Whilst playing at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club, Nana was able to secure a solo slot, performing for Princess Grace of Monaco Grace Kelly where Ms Kelly took to the floor on her own, dancing as Nana sang.
Looking for a new challenge, Nana decided to tap into her love of Reggae, having grown up listening to it as her father was Jamaican. Nana travelled to Jamaica where she worked with the legendary Gregory Isaacs . She also went onto back the formidable Freddie McGregor. It was a dream come true and Nana finally secured her reputation as a strong vocal artist and excellent backing singer.
With Reggae finding its way back into her life fulltime, Nana went on to work with Earl Sixteen, Culture, Junior Delgado, Johnny Osbourne and the Mad Professor at Ariwa Sounds.
Having been writing her own songs for years, Nana recorded some tracks with PWA Records and went on to perform them across the UK, with her most successful single, Holding On.
Nana has continued to work as a backing vocalist. Recording in the studio, on stage, covering Pop, Soul, Jazz and Reggae. She also writes for other artists and performs her own material.
Whilst continuing to work on her own music and perform with high profile artists, Nana completed a Performing Arts Access course gaining a Distinction. She currently works with various performing arts companies and schools as a vocal coach, training singers and performing for nationwide events and private and charity functions.
Whilst doing all this, Nana also uses her talent to work with people who have Dementia, as a singing coach. Her work with clients has proven to boosts their brain activity, manages stress and stimulates positive interaction with others.
Whilst teaching and writing, Nana continues to tour as a busy artist, performing at many festivals and venues with the likes of Little Roy (on the Jools Holland Show BBC2) Max Romeo, John Holt, Michael Prophet, Wayne Wonder, Ken Booth, Chucka Demus & Pliers, Queen Ifrica, Levi Roots, Little Roy and Gappy Ranks, Derrick Harriott, Mr Vegas, One Love Orchestra and Mary Wilson from the Supremes.
