In a Facebook post that’s gone viral with 23K likes and nearly 11K shares, Kelly Diane Howland, a mom of three in Indiana, describes how she recently visited Target with her newborn daughter. While she was there, she was approached by a woman who offered her business card for It Works, a company that sells weight loss wraps.
“But let’s not pretend that approaching me specifically was a coincidence,” Howland, a breast milk jewelry designer, wrote. “Because it’s not like she ran up to every female at Target to hand out her card. But she did come to me — with my baby billboard of being brand new postpartum. We all know that this culture hammers into postpartum women a lot of physical insecurity about their bodies after delivering their miracles from their wombs. I don’t think I have to spell out for a single woman the cultural pressure that postpartum mothers face regarding their physical appearance. We know. We all know. She knew. And that’s why she approached me.”
Howland added, “Can we please not perpetuate the pressure, the impossible expectations, and therefore keep alive the insecurities that we newly postpartum women face regarding our new and changing bodies as we enter motherhood? Meghan Markle is fighting to stop scammers using her name to sell diet pills online.
Buckingham Palace vowed to crack down on websites falsely claiming she used the tablets to get in shape.
Officials are set to act after a Sunday Mirror investigation revealed the scam.
The bogus online campaign for “Keto Weight Loss” tablets features YouTube images of Meghan before and after her pregnancy.
And a fake quote on a site called First Level Fitness says: “Post pregnancy my body had lost its shape. But, with keto body tone, I came back.”
A second site promoting the pills – branded as potentially dangerous by experts – even has Meghan claiming in an interview the Royal Family wanted to stop her “pursuing my own weight loss line”.
And cruelly one ad even has the Duchess posing with the Queen and calling the tablets her “passion project” – a phrase she actually used in a speech about the launch of her Grenfell disaster charity cookbook.
Last night a spokesman for Meghan thanked us for alerting her to the scam.
A royal source added: “This is obviously not true and an illegal use of the Duchess’ name for advertising purposes. We will follow our normal course of action.”

First Level Fitness – one of the diet pills’ main promoters – describes itself as a “one stop fitness site”. But many pages on the portal are dedicated to selling male sex drugs.
Sellers linked to it claim the “Meghan” pills “melt fat fast without diet or exercise”.
But yesterday experts warned against taking them.
Tam Fry, chairman of the National Obesity Forum, told us: “Nobody, but nobody, should go near diet pills advertised on the web – even when your favourite celebrity ‘endorses’ them.
“If you want to diet, it should be mandatory to seek advice from regulated professionals and use what they recommend.”
The second website involved claims that Meghan gushed about the keto pills’ benefits to a US publication called Entertainment Today, which does not exist.
The Duchess is quoted as saying of the diet tablets, costing £19.99 for 60: “All my life I’ve been passionate about taking care of my weight due to the pressures of Hollywood to stay young and look fit.

One advert was illustrated by a picture of Meghan with the Queen.
A bogus quote from the Duchess said: “We were clear from the beginning keto would be my passion project.
“I wanted to have creative control and run a business that was women centric. I didn’t feel like it was my ­obligation to make them (the Royal Family) feel comfortable to pursue my ambition.
“They know how much I obsess over weight loss and I put my entire heart and soul into this product to make it perfect.”
Meghan’s sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge, has also been used by scammers to plug the pills.
And similar online pages falsely link Cheryl Cole and Susanna Reid to the product. Gemma Collins also publicly denied her 3st loss was down to the tablets after her image was used on a Facebook page called Keto Pure, which has 2,000 followers.
The pills take their name from the keto diet – a low-carb and high-fat plan that puts the body into a state of ketosis, helping it burn fat rather than glucose.

This state is said to boost leptin, a hormone that helps with feeling full, and decrease ghrelin, the “hunger hormone” which stimulates appetite.
Manufacturers of keto pills claim its product has this effect due to a combination of compound beta-hydroxy-butyrate and caffeine, which will speed up weight loss .
But nutritionist May Simpkins, of the British Association for Nutrition and Lifestyle Medicine, warned: “They have latched on to the idea that ketosis can help you lose weight.
“Customers can’t be sure of the ingredients or who they are buying these pills from.
“Unless you are being very regimented with a keto diet alongside the pills you will still be taking in glucose so you won’t burn fat or lose weight.
“Suddenly plunging the body into a state of ketosis can shock it.
The digestive system can suffer and cause stomach cramps, constipation or diarrhoea.
“It also worries me this product contains caffeine as some people are intolerant and may experience headaches , weakness or anxiety.”
A disclaimer on a keto pill website admits the product is not approved by health authorities and says individual results “may vary”.
Celebs including Amanda Holden and Holly Willoughby have spoken out about their names being falsely linked to slimming pills.
And money expert Martin Lewis took Facebook to the High Court over scam adverts that had abused his name or image.
He dropped the lawsuit when Facebook agreed to launch a new bogus ads reporting tool and donate £3million to a new UK Scams Action project by Citizens Advice.
Last night First Level Fitness and other web outfits which uploaded the fake Meghan endorsements did not respond to requests for comment.

TOWIE star Gemma Collins threatened legal action after her name was linked to a supplement.
Gemma, 38, said at the time: “I will put my lawyers on to it straight away. Do not associate my name with your products when I am not behind them.”
Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden was similarly furious when scammers used her fame to push their product.
Amanda, 48, said this month: “I have been made aware that a company is using my name.
“I have not given consent for this and have no partnership with this company. This is a scam. So please be careful and do not sign up to this as they will take your money.”
Gladiator star Russel Crowe was asked by a fan: “I’ve just seen an advertorial for keto quoting you among its testimonials. Before I consider buying in, is it a legit testimonial?”
The furious 55-year-old Hollywood actor immediately replied: “No it’s not.”
Last May, pill endorsement posts appeared falsely saying This Morning’s Holly Willoughby, 38, had been worried that her weight was “getting a little out of hand”, implying she resorted to diet tablets.
BBC weather presenter Carol Kirkwood, 56, launched an on-screen broadside when her name was dragged into a similar con.
In a Breakfast report she looked at a bogus ad bearing her testimony and exclaimed: “This is utter garbage.”
US singer Kelly Clarkson, 37, cried “fake news” when a promo emerged with her name and picture.

Kelly Clarkson comes to Chevel Shepherd‘s rescue!
During Memorial Day weekend, The Voice coach and her season 15 mentee — who won the NBC singing competition show in 2018 — appeared at the Indy 500 and respectively performed the National Anthem and God Bless America.
Unfortunately, one Twitter user was not pleased with how God Bless America was sung.
On Sunday, the troll tweeted at Clarkson, writing:
“@kellyclarkson Indy 500 – Absolute WORST version of God Bless America I’ve ever heard!!! Sing it the way it was written, without all the slow whining, the ‘stylizing,’ the chirps and warbles. Want to know how to sing it right? Listen to Kate Smith’s version.’”
That same day, the My Life Would Suck Without You songstress clapped back, and defended Shepherd’s rendition! The 37-year-old penned:
“I didn’t actually sing that song today but the 16 yr old girl that did, nailed it. Also, think about the fact that U signed in online & took the time 2 drag a 16 yr old girl. Really think about it because Ur showing the worst side of U & I have faith that you’re cooler than this.”
Kelly, you rule!
After Shepherd won The Voice, she told reporters after the show:
“I am very blessed… I am super excited… It’s been crazy just getting the opportunity… Not many teenagers, not many 16-year-olds, get the opportunity to stand on The Voice stage and sing on national television for the world and get mentored by Kelly Clarkson and Mariah Carey and Thomas Rhett. It’s just been awesome, and it’s been life-changing.”
Of course, this isn’t the first time Clarkson has set the record straight on social media.

Well, Kelly Clarkson — known and adored for telling it like it is — has some refreshing things to say about weight and happiness, and it’s giving us even more reasons to love her. The talented singer revealed in a recent interview with Redbook that she is fact not at her happiest when she is “skinny.” “For me, when I’m skinny is usually when I’m not doing well,” she stated. Clarkson has grown tired of shaming comments that are disguised as concerns for “her health,” and she’s not afraid to call them out. “No one actually cares about your health. They just care about aesthetics.” She has a valid point, especially when it comes to online comments, where people feel free to remark on someone’s body and then try to soften it with the disclaimer that they are really concerned for that person’s well-being. The thing is, it is never OK to play doctor and assume you know what is healthy for another person. “It’s when I’m fat that I’m happy,” Clarkson said. “People think, ‘Oh, there’s something wrong with her. She’s putting on weight.’ I’m like, ‘Oh, no! I’m sorry, but that represents happiness in my emotional world.’” I can relate to her on this. There was a time after the birth of my third child where depression entered my world, and one of the medications I took to treat it had an unforeseen side effect — weight loss. It was a dark time of my life, and yet many people were congratulating me on my “new body.” Even when I got down to an unhealthy weight, I was still being celebrated and congratulated. The thing is, there are many difficult and emotional life situations that may cause someone to lose weight — divorce, loss of a loved one, and illness, just to name a few. It may not be helpful to assume that someone is actively trying to lose weight. Clarkson isn’t going to let the comments get her down, however. “If you gauge your life on what other people think, you’re going to be in a constant state of panic trying to please everyone,” she wisely advised. “People should just concentrate on their own lives and their own health and their own happiness, and whatever that looks like for you, be happy with it.” Amen to that! In a world obsessed with body image and perfection, it is so refreshing to have a candid celebrity like Kelly Clarkson remind us not to base our happiness on how we appear to others. After all, reaching our “ideal weight” is not a golden ticket to happiness. It’s also an important reminder that it may be a good idea to filter our comments about other people’s bodies. The reason could be your weight loss diet program itself. Crazy diets that promise quick weight loss are difficult (sometimes, even impossible) to stick to for long-term and thereby, give you false hopes. By believing them, you are setting yourself up to regain the weight.
Foundation of Weight Reduction
Most dieters don’t understand the importance of reducing calorie consumption for weight loss. Trendy fad diets may preoccupy you, but the very foundation of a successful diet still comes down to counting calories.
Research from the New England Journal of Medicine states that “reduced-calorie diets will result in clinically meaningful weight-loss, regardless of which macronutrients they emphasize.”
Remember, you only lose weight when you consume lesser calories and this fact doesn’t depend on the diet program that you follow.
Maintaining the Weight Loss
