Good morning ☀️ How are you today? #haveagoodday Lately I miss posting #morninginspiration #goodmorningpost mostly because my #morningmood was not something I wanted to share. But today is a good morning. I’ve opened for myself a new Nigerian artist - #KelechiNwaneri @kaecyart. First 5 slides are from his “Myths” series. I find it quite intriguing. You know that it’s a common place to take historically significant masterpieces and use them for declaration of alternative colour, gender or whatever history. Sometimes it’s worth the work sometimes it’s not. But there’s rarely any strong philosophical research or formed ideas behind the visual concept. Here’re we can see the Western civilization symbols used for telling African cosmogony myths. Though the stories are different from what you expect to read, you stuck with the idea of general similarity of the myth creation process. And if you came from European civilization you will definitely feel anxious because your religion knowledge and cultural memory tells you “that’s not the right way to tell the story”, while your mind should protest: “that’s ok, nobody owns the symbols, the artistic exploration process is free. Don’t be afraid to see it”. The artist’s style, his expression, is very vivid and simplified, restricted to the necessary details. Someone called those paintings surreal, some - naive, I’m not sure those are the right words. Symbolic might be. But it’s absolutely real time and deep experience for me. And as any subjective opinion mine can’t be the only one right.
