Keith “He’ll tell me his name when he’s ready” Kogane vs Lance “You can’t keep calling him ‘Wolf’ otherwise that will be his name” McClain FIGHT

(Lance has a realization while lying in bed that Keith’s dad, Kai, Keith’s mom, Krolia, and Keith, Keith, all have names that start with k. He decides that the space wolf, the wolf from space, the wolf that fell from the cosmos, should follow the same family tradition they have going on. He settles on the name Kosmo. Keith thinks its dumb. Lance doesn’t care. Kosmo is already responding to the name. The rest of the team call the space wolf Kosmo. Keith is seething.)

(When they get to earth, Lance snatches Keith’s garrison paperwork and jots down the name ‘Kosmo’ for the wolf so in the eyes of the government, the wolf’s name is Kosmo. Keith threatens to feed Lance to Wolf. Both Lance and Keith know that Kosmo adores Lance. Keith is also annoyed by this.)

(After they get together and move down to Texas, they have to take Kosmo to the vet and Lance insists on doing it. Keith doesn’t understand why until he sees the paperwork on the counter later that day that shows the wolf’s name as Kosmo. Keith is grumpy. Lance uses his new tactic and kisses the scowl off Keith’s face. Keith is less annoyed.)

Okay but imagine:

Adam lives through the Galra invasion. Team Voltron is on Earth reuniting with their loved ones. Shiro obviously nervous about seeing Adam again. So is Keith (bc he views Adam like a dad/brother). When the three reunite Adam only pays attention to Keith, completely ignoring Shiro and Shiro just follows Adam around hoping to get acknowledged in some way, even if it's in a "I moved on, but it is good to know you're alive" kind of way. Keith notices this and just laughs and doesn't explain anything to Shiro (lowkey Keith is also mad Shiro left for kerberos and left him and Adam) but knows his dads/brothers have to go at their own pace.

One night when Shiro thinks that everything is fruitless that perhaps Adam forgot about him Adam acknowledges him for the first time.

Bonus:

Krolia and Adam bonding which worries Keith and Shiro and not in a "oh shit they're going to kill each other" way but in a "they're going to be troublemakers together and thank God they did not meet when they were younger but - DID THEY JUST BLOW SOMETHING UP" kinda way

Krolia also loves the petty silent treatment bc she once had to do something similar with Keith's dad.

I want a Voltron fanfic that uses the ideas of the “humans are space orcs” thing. Like why were humans of all creatures mystically chosen by the universe to be the paladins this time around when last time a different species entirely were assigned to each lion? Oh, I’ll tell you why. Humans are pursuit predators-they have perfected the kind of stamina required to hunt down a 10,000 yr old empire. As a species they managed to stick around long enough to evolve sentience not because of any particular advantage they hold over the rest of the beings on earth but bc of their sheer ability to survive. Good luck killing these guys, Zarkon. Humans are naturally primed to pack bond which is why these paladins are able to form Voltron immediately and it’s part of what makes them so dangerous. Earth is a planet of many cultures, unlike most of the planets seen in the show which for simplicity’s sake seem to have one planet wide culture. This exposure to so many different cultures makes them exceptionally good at forming alliances-perfect skill when leading a war effort. They are inventive, able to digest most anything, able to live through broken bones, and come from a hell planet. Evolution basically made the perfect kind of creatures to pilot the lions. The Alteans are also from a hell world but they developed things like shape shifting and super strength and quintessence sensitivity to beat it-humans didn’t do that. They did something else and it’s far more terrifying.

I think Lance should get like the meanest, most evil Earth cat in existence (think Becky Apples from Centaurworld) and also the biggest rose tinted glasses ever because he genuinely believes that Mr Cutie Paws has never done and would never do anything wrong and i think said cat should tolerate him and ONLY him and I think the only other person making an effort to bond with said cat is Shiro who recognizes the bloodlust in its eyes but damn it! Every kitty deserves a chance!

Pidge is the first to find out.

Of course she is- she's the one who summoned him. She didn't expect it to work, but now they're both bound by the rules of summoning to forge a contract with one another. Keith knows better than to ask for her soul, so he asks for her hair instead. She has a lot of it, and it she can grow it back if she wants to. It's an infinite resource.

(Colleen just thinks he's a friend of her daughter's. They do not dispute this. She does do a double take when she goes to check on her daughter and finds that she just abruptly cut off a huge chunk of her hair, though.)

Allura is the next one to find out. They kind of have no choice but to tell her, given Keith's disappearing act. It's not as bad as having to tell one of the paladins, though. She has no preconceived notion as to what a 'demon' is. To her, he is simply another kind of Earthling.

(She agrees to keep it a secret, though she's clearly not happy about it. She doesn't understand it would effect the paladin bond more if they knew.)

Shiro is the third to find out, but Keith doesn't learn this until much later. He's there when he faces the Trials of Marmora. Keith never realized just how much he saw there. How when he passed out on the ground, beset by illusions, Shiro saw him as he truly was. Shiro never says anything.

(Shiro understands why Keith never told him. When he smiles and tells him that it doesn't matter what he is, that it's enough for him to just be Keith, he's not only talking about his Galra heritage. If Keith is a demon, then he's been a demon the entire time Shiro has known him.)

Kolivan and the Blade of Marmora all find out at the same time. That he does know. They have questions for him, although Keith is hesitant to answer them in a way he wasn't with Allura. These people are the other half of his heritage. It's a weird feeling. Guess it explains his purple skin and yellow eyes, which he clearly didn't get from his dad.

(For all his apprehension, to them he is no different from any other half-Galra. It is a surprisingly comforting feeling.)

Lance, Hunk, and Coran all find out together.

The mission was a bust. The ship was a decoy, rigged to explode. Regris is on the verge of death, and needs a healing pod fast or he won't make it. So Keith makes a gamble and reaches out to Pidge. Can you summon him back to the Castle right now? She's confused at the urgency but complies. Keith's gamble pays off- he's holding Regris at the time, and he gets dragged along with him. It doesn't matter that he's just appeared right in front of everyone in his true form.

Allura snaps into action and helps him quickly get Regris to a healing pod. He's put right next to Shiro's, where he's been in stasis ever since their battle with Zarkon. It's only then that he has to confront his choice, turning back to face Lance and Hunk. There's no way he can just write this all off as due to him being part Galra. He has to tell the truth.

(When Shiro emerges from the healing pod, Keith has already left for the Blade.)
