Kami wa Game ni Ueteiru 5
Tumblr media
Author: Kei Sazane
Illustrator: Tomoe Toiro
Label: MF Bunko J
Release Date: 25 August 2022
My Score: 3/5
The first game this volume is a basketball game against a god team. The basketball is different from normal basketball in that there are multiple balls, each one weighing differently and scoring differently based on their weights, and there are no turns, so that each player and team can score at the same time. I found this one a bit boring, largely because it took a long time for characters other than Fey to catch on to how the gods were planning to win but I thought it was pretty obvious once the rules were explained in full. The second game takes place in a labyrinth. The god Poseidon makes a copy of the gang and the goal is for the true players to beat the false ones to the goal and to correctly guess who the true players are. I thought this game was better than the last but, again, I figured out the “trick” before any of the main characters did and it was frustrating that even Fey seemed slow to get it. It also meant that the explanations of the “trick” felt tedious to read. Like, it’s good that Sazane puts in enough clues for the reader to figure it out but it makes the characters feel more stupid than they’re meant to be.
There’s some stuff in between the games about how there’s a team of gods posing as humans to play the games and Fey is given a warning to not win a tenth game. Fey starts to look for his former captain from his old team and we’re reminded that he has the goal of finding the girl that introduced him to games which I had completely forgotten about because I don’t think it’s been mentioned for a while. This volume also has a lot of boob jokes which I found off-putting. Like, we get it, Pearl has big boobs, you don’t need to mention it every chapter. Overall, I just found this volume to be fairly average. The games were pretty fun, especially the second one, but this isn’t this series at it’s best.
I’m getting bored of this series, I think. The games are still fun but the overarching plot doesn’t feel like it’s progressing much and the characters haven’t grown either. In fairness, they didn’t have much flaws to grow from to begin with but it makes reading their journey a lot less rewarding. I guess Pearl and Nell are more confident now but that’s pretty much it. I’ll be reading the next volume as it’s already out in the hopes it manages to recapture my interest.

Mermaid Hana Lee x surfer OC Raelyn
Tumblr media
Beautiful commission done by @sazanes Thank you so so so much for the perfect work as usual! 💚
Raelyn knew the waves weren't going to be very big today but they couldn't help but test it. It was a beautiful day and the ocean was their favorite place to be. After riding a few kiddie waves, they walked out onto the beach to stroll along and enjoy the breeze. Suddenly they heard frantic animalistic crying from behind a reef they were approaching. Was it an injured seal? Raelyn carefully poked their head over the rocks and stopped short.
A beautiful woman was struggling in a fisherman's net. Raelyn immediately jogged past the rocks to help but realized it wasn't a woman trapped in the nets. Where her legs should have been was a gorgeous scaled tail with gold fins flaring out at the end.
"Oh...a mermaid..." Raelyn gasps out in awe. At the sound of Raelyn's voice, the mermaid startled. Seeing a human standing a few feet from her made her cry out in alarm and begin to renew her frantic attempts to escape from her bindings.
"Whoa! It's okay, I'm not going to hurt you. Easy. You're just making the net tighter on yourself." Raelyn says gently with both hands raised to show they meant no harm. And it was true, the net was beginning to dig into the pretty mermaid's skin and tail.
Something in the human's soft reassuring voice made Hana stop. Her heart hammered as Raelyn approached her. Raelyn slowly crouched down on their knees next to Hana and began to run their hands along the net. The feeling of the human's soft hands brushing against her scales made Hana shiver and whimper.
"Hey, it's alright. It's going to be okay. I'll help you back home, I promise." Raelyn says gently looking into the weary mermaid's eyes. Hana couldn't understand every word but she was taught to know key human terms and she understood "help" and "home." Paired with the human's gentle voice, hands and eyes, were they helping her?
Feeling the net gradually loosen she focused solely on Raelyn's eyes as Raelyn explained in detail what they were doing and about to do.
Tumblr media
"Now little mermaid I'm going to pull this end to---" Raelyn was cut off by the mermaid.
"Hana." Hana says pointing to herself. Raelyn's eyes flick to the direction of Hana's finger and blushing looked away, apparently mermaids had no need for clothes and except for the gill slits on the sides of her ribs, Hana's upper half resembled that of a human woman. "Hana." She repeated herself.
"Oh, is that your name? Hana?" Raelyn asks and the mermaid nods. Hana cocks her head to the side and points at Raelyn.
"Oh, forgive me! Where are my manners? I'm Raelyn. Raelyn." Raelyn says their name pointing to their self.
"Rae-lyn?" Hana says slowly, Raelyn nods smiling and Hana thinks it's a pretty smile.
"That's right! Hana and Raelyn." Raelyn says pointing to Hana and to their self as they said their names. Hana giggles sounds like musical bells which makes Raelyn gape in awe. They shake their head to clear it and continue untangling the net. Soon the net falls completely off of Hana and Raelyn smiles brightly at her.
"There we go! Can I...?" Raelyn says gesturing as if to pick Hana up, Hana nods unsure of what they were asking but gasps when suddenly they were lifted in the air. Their hand scramble to wrap around Raelyn but was soothed by their soft voice.
"It's okay, I'm just taking you back to the ocean." Raelyn says carrying Hana in their arms bridal style. Hana's tail was so long it dragged against the sand so she tucked it around Raelyn's waist.
At the words "back" and "ocean," Hana realized the human was releasing her. But that wasn't what she was taught. Her parents taught her that humans were evil. They would capture and kill her if she ever got too close to one. But this human was not like that at all. She laid a webbed hand gently against the human's soft face, marveling at the beauty of their dark eyes, straight nose, and well defined cheek bones and jawline. If Raelyn was a mer, Hana would court them in a heartbeat and despite that, Hana's mind wandered.
At the feeling of the mermaid's touch, Raelyn froze. No one had touched them so gently in a long time and with Hana's beauty, Raelyn could completely understand how men may have dashed their ships against the rocks because of the sirens' call. When Hana's fingers swept across Raelyn's lip, without thinking, Raelyn kissed her fingers. Hana sighs softly before bending her head, ran her nose against Raelyn's cheek, lips and finally nuzzle Raelyn's nose. Raelyn closes their eyes and nuzzle back.
Hana knew if her parents or any of her kind saw her in this moment acting so provocative with someone she just met much less a human, they would be aghast. Curling her tail around Raelyn, nuzzling their faces together was something you did with your mate. And although her parents have been desperately trying to push mer after mer at Hana, none of them had made Hana feel like she did with this human. She buries her face into Raelyn neck and Raelyn continues to carry her out to sea.
When the water was waist deep, Raelyn stopped. "Alright Hana, is this okay?" They say slowly letting go of the mermaid. Hana turns away and leaps into the ocean. She leaps out the water and back into the water, cries of joy flowing from her mouth uninhibited and freely. Raelyn grins admiring the way the sun reflected off her scales. Suddenly Hana splashes Raelyn with her tail.
"Hey!" They laugh spluttering. "Oh, you're in for it now!" Raelyn says before the two begin a splash war. Hana wins when with a leap she drags Raelyn under. Raelyn gasps and hurridly holds their breath, but seeing the unease in their eyes, Hana gently nuzzles their nose before pulling them back to the surface.
Raelyn gasps a deep breath of air and Hana looks at them worriedly. She had forgotten for a moment that humans couldn't breathe underwater. She put a trembling hand gently on Raelyn's chest.
"Raelyn, okay?" Hana asks tears in her eyes. Raelyn clasps their hands together.
"I'm okay, just surprised. Raelyn's okay." Raelyn says before kissing Hana on the cheek and than splashing her. Hana giggles before splashing back.
Hours later, the sun is setting and the two knew it was time to go their separate ways.
"I guess it's goodbye time now, huh?" Raelyn says.
"Home, yes, goodbye." Hana says but the two float across from each other reluctant to leave. Gradually they float closer to each other and Hana nuzzles their noses together one more time and Raelyn presses their lips against her cheek again.
Raelyn watches Hana swim away, and Hana made sure to leap gracefully in and out, her tail flaring impressively to show off for them. Soon, she was gone, and Raelyn slowly started to make their way back to the shore. But despite that, they knew their paths would cross again. A powerful bond had formed, and Raelyn felt it in their heart that this wasn't the end of their story with the beautiful mermaid. This was just the end of the first chapter. Perhaps tomorrow they'll come back to the beach. Maybe the waves would be better. And maybe someone will be waiting in the waves for them. And with that, Raelyn scooped up their forgotten surfboard and whistled a new melody. A melody that sounded a lot like the ocean and a lot like love.

“Thank you for sharing your music with me.”
Hana turned the words over in her mind. She hadn’t known Riley for long, but Hana had gotten the impression that she was careful about the way she chose her words. And Riley had been impressed tonight; her eyes and the way she had leaned in close, listening with rapt attention, had said as much.
Haunting and beautiful, were the words she had used to describe Hana’s composition, but she had chosen to part with words of gratitude.
Hana finished washing her face and straightened as she patted her face dry. She looked at herself in the mirror, free of makeup, hair swept back. Her own eyes held her in place, imploring.
Hours ago she would have said that she had invited Riley to the parlor because they were becoming friends. Maybe she would have even admitted that she felt safe with Riley. Riley was a breath of fresh air. When she asked Hana questions about herself, she was actually interested in knowing who Hana was, and not just where Hana fit into the game of chess that everyone else in Hana’s life seemed to be playing.
Maybe that’s why she had chosen to play her own composition for Riley. She had written it at such a lonely time in her life, maybe she had always wanted to be seen and heard.
Hana stood and made her way to the bed. She pulled back the covers and considered how much she loved to play, so much so that she couldn’t bear to be coerced or cajoled into putting herself on display.
She slides into bed but sleep doesn’t yet come. She turns over and and looks out into the night sky, through the space between the curtains. Her parents had always wanted her to play Chopin, Mozart, Vivaldi. And Hana had loved it until she realized that it was just a commodity, prestige for prestige’s sake that so many people valued, while Hana knew that the girl pretending to play piano keys in the pond was just like those composers, so full of music that they had to knit the notes together.
“Thank you for sharing your music with me,” Riley had said. Not praises for her excellent taste or admiration for hitting every note perfectly, but gratitude. “Are you sure you want to play for me?” No demands. Because Riley understood what music meant to Hana, after only knowing her for a handful of days.
Hana turns onto her back, stretches her hand out and taps her fingers against the duvet. It’s been too long since she’s composed.

Hi Misha 🤗 one doubt about Guinevere, we have the chance to romance just one Li or Guinevere will have romantic feelings for both li's? The romantic choices matter?
Hi @sazanes! Good question, the answer is I have no idea. I have been playing a light romantic triangle. Primarily choosing Arthur but picking some Lancelot heart options to build the tension.
There are heart choices and I have done a mix with Lancelot and the non heart options have not been particularly romantic. However, there is a building tension and at on point MC feels uncomfortably aware of Lancelot while talking about the wedding, that is unprompted but again I have been choosing some heart options.
My guess is that like My Two First Loves and Wolf Bride, that the triangle is built into the story to some degree and is unavoidable. But, it is also faithful to the source material. This is Arthurian legend, the triangle is a key part of the story (or at least since the 12th century).
I think you have to go into Guinevere expecting the love triangle to be a major part of the story.

KTAW | DAY 3 – DIPLOMAT/POLYGLOT
Tagging @kiaratheronappreciationweek, @lizzybeth1986, and @sazanes for KTAW.
For this day, I'd like to focus on my headcanons for how Kiara acquires her diplomatic and language skills. Obviously, she has a good starting point, being the daughter of a diplomat and being at least bilingual by birth in canon. But her brother Ezekiel is also both these things, and his talents lie in veterinary medicine.
The key to Kiara understanding all the knowledge she has at her fingertips is a personal knowledge management system. I think her system is set up into four main parts: her book organization system, her reading journal, her language notebooks, and her commonplace book. Yes, it's about to get very nerdy in here.
We know from that really unnecessary scene in TRR 2.17 where Drake and MC can invade Kiara's privacy and prank her, that she canonically has a book organization system and owns at least one book on Macedonian history and one on Belarusian history. She has way more. She's rich, she can afford to have a history book on basically every country in the world. Her books are organized using a paired down version of the Universal Decimal Classification because its system was designed to be used internationally and has been translated into many different languages. What's unique to Kiara is that she often has multiple translations of the same text to compare and contrast how they feel. After all, translation is an art, not a science. Post her marriage to fellow book lover Hana Lee, the two of them make home library checkout cards and stamps to keep track of which estate a book is in and to make reading more fun for their kids.
Kiara has her books, but how is she going to process all the information she reads? With a reading journal of course. Kiara strikes me as an A5 notebook type girl. Any bigger and it would be cumbersome to take with her while traveling. In the notebook goes what she wants to read, what she has read, and her thoughts and analysis. Her journal is very minimalist, typically black, and she favors a nice black ballpoint pen. Her handwriting is immaculate.
Kiara has a separate notebook for language learning. Each language gets a notebook, even ones she's already fluent in. She never knows when she might come across a phrase or a grammatical convention she's never seen or heard before. Linguistics is very close to her heart. These notebooks are a little more colorful. She likes to get custom notebooks that have an untranslatable phrase from the language she's learning on the front. Inside are exercises, vocab lists, study schedules, and travel plans so she can practice with other people.
And finally we have Kiara's commonplace book. She got this idea from Hakim and Joëlle, who always have a quote handy for any situation. This notebook has seen the most changes, as Kiara's kept one since she was small. It started out as a small lined notebook, but by now has transformed into a traveler's notebook style leather cover with three paper inserts inside. What quotes go in which inserts are known only to her.

Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World is an anime series in the fantasy and romance genre that first aired in the fall of 2020. The series that is a light novel originally written by Kei Sazane is about two civilizations at war and a love story born of these two different civilizations. Shin Oonuma, who has participated in many successful projects such as Bofuri, sits in the director’s chair of the anime. It is broadcast on many local TV channels such as AT-X, Tokyo MX, ABC, TVA, BS11, and also it is licensed by Funimation. Silver Links, also the creator of Masamune Kun No Revenge and Wise Man’s Grandchild like Bofuri, takes over the studio role of the anime. The anime’s first season was broadcast in 12 episodes between October 7, 2020, and December 23, 2020. So, it’s now wondering, will there be a second season?1 What is the plotline of the anime?2 Will there be a second season of Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World?2.1 Manga of the seriesWhat is the plotline of the anime? The picture from @Funimation / YouTube – Opening ThemeThere is an endless war between the Heavenly Empire and the Nebulis Sovereignty for years. While Heavenly Empire is an empire that has made tremendous progress in science, Nebulis is a civilization that is home to magical girls. The ongoing war between these two civilizations has confronted the mighty swordsman Iska and the Aliceliese known as the “Ice Calamity Witch” on the battlefield. Despite being enemies, the knight falls in love with the beauty and dignity of the princess, and the princess falls in love with the knight’s power and way of life. Will conditions allow these two, who are trying to end the war in a peaceful way? Will there be a second season of Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World? On October 1, 2021, news that will delight anime fans was shared on the series’ Twitter account and official website. According to the news, the anime has been renewed for a sequel. This news, which is stated as a sequel, most likely points to a second season. For the renewal news that came after a year, the series team shared their excitement on Twitter with their followers as follows. After the last season, we discussed the possibilities of the new season, and we were not very optimistic. However, it seems that “Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World” misled us and managed to get a second season’s approval. Not many details have been shared for the new season yet, but we think Silver Studio will be responsible for animations again. An official release date has not been shared with the audience yet. The anime’s first season was announced in October 2019 and met the audience in October 2020, exactly one year later. The announcement of the second season was made in October 2021, and the new season can meet the audience in October 2022; it is the most likely for now. We’ll update this section when the official release date for the new season is announced. Manga of the seriesThe light novel series that the anime is adapted from is written by Kei Sazane and illustrated by Ao Nekonabe, as we mentioned at the beginning of the article. Originally published by Fujimi Shobo, LN went live in May 2017. The good news is that the light novel series is still ongoing today. In addition, it meets the readers in English thanks to Yen Press publishing. (At the time of writing, the first 6 volumes were published in English.) The first 4 volumes of the light novel series, which reached a total of 11 volumes on May 20, 2021, were adopted in the first season. It seems that the light novel can provide enough source material for the anime to have a new season.36%Manga adaptation rateSource material adequacy is important but insufficient on its own. Although disc sales have declined in recent years with the increase in online video watching habits, it is important to see the popularity in Japan. When we look at the sales of the anime, we see that it only sold 746 copies of BluRay & DVD. (Generally, it is expected to sell at least around 4,000 units for a new season renewal.)17.7k people follow the anime’s Twitter account. It is very low compared to other animations released in the same period. It should be noted that Bofuri, also released in 2020, belonging to the same studio, was followed by 67.2k people, and the studio’s other product, My Next Life as a Villainess, which aired in the same period, was followed by 86.6k people

Naze Boku no Sekai wo Daremo Oboeteinai no ka? 1
Tumblr media
Author: Kei Sazane
Illustrator: neco
Label: MF Bunko J
Release Date: 25 July 2017
My Score: 4/5
Story & Characters:
Genre: Fantasy, Action, Adventure
Premise: 100 years ago, there was a war between the 5 races of this world and humans came out on top, largely due to the hero Sid, and the rest of the races were sealed away. Kai and his friends work to ensure that the races remain sealed. One day, when he is in the middle of talking to his childhood friend Jeanne, the world goes wonky and he wakes up to find himself in a different world in which Sid never existed and humans lost the war and their territory has been taken by the Demon race. No one remembers him or his world. As he is exploring the world to find out what happened, he comes accross Rinne, a girl who has attributes from several different races and doesn’t know what race she is. She had been imprisoned by the Demon race and Kai rescues her. She seems to be the only other person who remembers his world and they team up to revert the world to the way it was.
Kei Sazane always delivers excellent first volumes and this one is no exception to the rule. The plot is intriguing, the characters are likeable, the setting is interesting, and the fight scenes are exciting. I really enjoyed it and I am very curious about so many plot points. Along with Sid, Kai also does not exist in the alt. world. At first, I wondered whether Kai did exist but died at a young age but Alt!Jeanne never mentions having a childhood friend so why does Kai not exist in the new world? My best theory is that he is a descendant of Sid’s so no Sid = no Kai. I suppose it is possible that Kai does exist in the alt. world but in a different location or role, but given that this isn’t the case for any of the other characters, that would still raise questions. How was Rinne created and is she alive in the original world? It should be interesting to see Kai question whether he really wants to return the world back to it’s original form if it would mean losing Rinne as well. Regardless, my interest in this series is very much piqued.
As for the characters, Kai isn’t much different from other Sazane protagonists. He’s likeable and interesting enough but there’s nothing about him that makes him stand out from other protagonists. Rinne has been trapped for at least a hundred years before the start of the series so she quickly becomes attached to Kai but she hates everyone else. I am very interested in her origin story though and I suspect she’ll have a good character arc so I’m looking forward to that. Before the change, Jeanne seemed like she was about to confess that she has romantic feelings for Kai and she is the leader of the human rebellion in the alt. world. She’s fine but hasn’t made much of an impression on me yet.  The side characters are memorable and likeable and I have no complaints there.
Overall, I enjoyed this volume a lot and it seems to have been a good choice to help me get out of this reading slump.
Recommended for:
Fantasy/action/adventure fans.
Adaptation Notes:
The manga adaptation is ongoing at 7 volumes currently in print and it features art by Arikan. I’m really enjoying it so far. There aren’t a whole lot of changes but the gorgeous art really elevates the story, especially the action scenes which are breathtaking to look at. At the moment, I’d actually recommend the manga over the light novel.
I’ll be reading volume 2 soon.
