Ajay Devgn has shared the teaser poster of his upcoming sports biopic, Maidaan. The poster doesn’t show the faces of the lead cast but only several pairs of legs standing on a muddy football field while playing the sport in rain. Ajay will portray the role of Syed Abdul Rahim, who served as coach and manager of Indian football team from 1950 until his death in 1963. He shared the poster on Twitter with the caption, “#MaidaanTeaser - Get ready for Maidaan! 27th November 2020.” Many fans of the actor asked him to release the film around Christmas. A fan wrote, “Please make it Xmas”. Another wrote, “Sir xmas par aao full support.” One more fan wrote, “Kabhi toh Festival par Release karo Ajay sir.” Meanwhile, Christmas is reserved for Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha this year. The reign of King Khans-Salman, Aamir and Shah Rukh-appears to be fading, being replaced by the Age of Akshay Kumar. From interviewing Prime Minister Narendra Modi before the 2019 Lok Sabha election to featuring in four releases in 2019-Kesari, Mission Mangal, Housefull 4 and Good Newwz-Akshay Kumar was the number one hero of 2019. It’s not just the sheer volume of work that he does-with at least three big-ticket releases every year, compared to Aamir and Shah Rukh who didn’t have any last year-it’s also Kumar’s choice of subjects that makes him a formidable force. While Kesari and Mission Mangal celebrated the pride of India, Housefull 4 and Good Newwz appealed to those who just want a laugh. The audiences, in turn, valued this range-these films earned a cumulative Rs 739 crore at the domestic box office.

Such is Kumar’s dominance that Salman-a usual topper in the india today Mood of the Nation Poll (MOTN)-had to share the top step on the podium this time around. Khan’s two releases-Bharat and Dabangg 3-didn’t meet box office expectations, so much so that they weren’t even the highest earners of 2019. That honour went to Shahid Kapoor-starrer Kabir Singh, foll­owed by the Vicky Kaushal-starring Uri: The Surgical Strike.

The biggest gainer from the previous edition of MOTN was Ayushmann Khurrana (ranked #3 this year), who has carved out a niche for himself in the comedic social comm­entary genre. While two of his releases in 2019-Dream Girl and Bala-fit that description, the actor has also demonstrated that he’s eager to break the mould. His hard-hitting turn as a police officer in Article 15, an investigative thriller centred on caste prejudice, was a refreshing change from the ‘flawed-but-affable boy next door’ image that his career has thrived on. Polling the same as Khurrana were Ajay Devgn, Hrithik Roshan, Ranveer Singh, Rajinikanth and Prabhas, along with Shah Rukh Khan, who may not have had a release but did produce the hit Badla (starring Amitabh Bachchan, who finished second).

Among actresses, there wasn’t much change in the results from the previous edition. Deepika Padukone retained the top spot while Anushka Sharma came in second, somewhat surprising given that neither had a single release in 2019. But the two did not spend the year out of sight-they both used their social media savvy to remain in the news, promote their brands and initiatives and occasionally share glimpses from their personal lives (including public displays of affection with their husbands). Another actress whose active online presence makes her a winner is Priyanka Chopra-Jonas, who also came in second, despite the failure of her first Hindi film in three years, The Sky is Pink.

via Today Bharat Directed by Om Raut, the film will reportedly be shot entirely using the green mat technology seen in several Hollywood films. Rebel Star Prabhas starrer Adipurush is one of the high budget movies in India that will go on the floors next year. The film, to be directed by Om Raut, will have a lot of VFX included and will be shot in 3D format. According to sources close to the film unit, a huge budget has been earmarked for the graphics and the film will be entirely shot using the green mat technology seen in several Hollywood films. The makers are in talks with the VFX supervisors of Avatar and Star Wars to work on the graphics for the epic period action movie. The project will feature actors from across several industries and the makers are in the process of finalising the cast. While it has been confirmed that Prabhas will play Lord Ram, Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan will be seen as Lankesh, another popular name for Raavan. Saif had also played the antagonist in director Om Raut’s last film Tanhaji, which was a multiplex hit. In his latest interview to a leading daily, Om Raut opened up on why he roped in Prabhas for this project. “I have seen him (as the lead) in my head, on my computer, in my script — if there is anybody who can play Prabhu Ram to perfection, it is Prabhas. As the biggest star in our country, he adds to the commercial value of the film. But more than that, he has a great combination of calmness and aggression. As the writer and director, that appealed to me,” Raut said. The pre-production process has been going on for nearly six months and the makers are eyeing a massive 2022 release. Earlier reports suggested that Keerthy Suresh has been signed as the leading lady while according to a TOI report, Kiara Advani has been approached for the role, but there’s been no official announcement yet. The film will be shot as a bilingual in Telugu and Hindi. It will be dubbed and released in other languages such as Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada and several foreign languages. Adipurush is produced by Bhushan Kumar under the T-series banner. This film will be Prabhas’ third with producer Bhushan Kumar after Saaho and Radhe Shyam. Meanwhile, Prabhas will resume shooting for Radhe Shyam this month onwards. The project went on the floors in January this year. Amidst the coronavirus pandemic, the team successfully wrapped up the Georgian schedule in March and returned to India safely. According to reports, the Indian schedule of the film will begin in a specially erected set at Annapurna Studios, Hyderabad. Pooja Hegde, who plays the leading lady, will join this schedule along with other key actors. Prabhas also has a film with Mahanati director Nag Ashwin. Tipped to be pan-Indian multilingual science-fiction project, Deepika Padukone has been roped in as the leading lady, marking her Telugu debut. In February, the project was officially announced via a special video released on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Vyjayanthi Films.
