- Sabo often watched you do daily tasks with the most amazed look on his face

- The poor boy didn’t have much of a mother figure or role model to go off of, so you were amazing in his eyes!

- He loved it when you read stories to all three of them, that was his favorite part of the day :)

- Although he’s read the books you read to them numerous times, listening to the way you read is all worth it!

⚠️ Note: This post is about Dragon Ball Super, and is written mostly for recap and research purposes, but it involves a few real-life related topics and will be pretty long so you should treat this like a blog post. MY THOUGHTS/CONTROVERSIAL TAKE ON THE CURRENT STATE OF DRAGON BALL SUPER and DRAGON BALL FRANCHISE AS A WHOLE, AND THOUGHTS OF THE FUTURE OF THE BRAND

- PART 1: INTRODUCTION OF THE COMICS and TIMELINES -

1. INTRODUCTION:

Hello everyone, if this is your first time seeing me on your dashboard, my name is Kah and I’m an artist who have been working on a Dragon Ball webcomic named “Trunks and Goten in High school AU”, starring Goten and Trunks since 2021 and is still ongoing.

It’s used to appear on Google a lot until the current arc of Super happened, and Elon Musk’s decision to deleted the Moment feature on Twitter (that was the main link that mostly appeared on Google about my comic). It’s an art project that I’ve been letting it sleep inside my head for ~20 years and finally decided to manifest it into existence while infusing my style in it, until it got unexpectedly “canonized” by the Dragon Ball Super creators in late 2022 while the project is still in the beginning stage, in a way that I couldn’t predict it.

It changed everything afterwards of course. For both myself and the fandom, and maybe, the impact of this will be bigger than we think it will be 🤔

I know there’s nothing for you to believe in what I’m about to say, and I won’t force you to believe them too, of course, you have no obligation to do that. That’s exactly why you should try and read this and decide of what to think yourself, it can be something quite worthwhile.

The time this blog post is written is in January the 3rd, 2023. The incident was in December 2022, I will include timelines and many other articles down below, as well as images for you to see things more clearly. For the current me, this post is a recap for research purposes, and since I’ll be using myself and my work as an example, there’ll be some unwanted personal feelings unconsciously mixed in, but I’ll try to keep my mind as most neutral as possible.

You’re about to read my real thoughts on the current arc of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero since chapter 88, the similarity of my webcomic in it and many other deeper things, as well as my theory/glimpse at future of Dragon Ball franchise as a whole. I hope this read would be entertaining to you.

2. THE TIMELINE:

Before we get into the main topic, here’re some of my character designs and background visuals for my webcomic. If you can, read through some chapters as well, it’s not much but it will give you an idea of what to come next.

Ok so the first question to ask is, when did my webcomic project start? I say it’s around May 2021, in the midst of the Covid-era, when mostly everyone was quarantined at their homes. This webcomic art project is drawn so I can practice my drawing, storytelling and creative writing skills. It’s an indie project through and through, that takes a lot of time, effort and love. I don’t profit much from it tho, I mean my patreon is even opened in August last year and I didn’t even promote it much on any social media platform other than Twitter sometimes. So yes, the main purposes of it were mostly what I wrote above.

When did the current arc of Super start? Since 20th, December 2022. After the Granolah arc of the Dragon Ball Super manga ended, this is the arc that is currently running: the Super Hero arc. In appearances, there’re a bit of similar vibes from the manga and my webcomic in 2021, and while it may sound farfetched and like false accusation for everyone else, my intention is not exactly aiming towards that, it aims for something lying deeper. This is just the tip of the iceberg, that I would analyze and share a bit of it with you. Like I said, I would try my best to write it out as neutrally as possible.

From here on out, I’ll begin to list the entire timeline that leads to the current state:

- The last time Goten and Trunks appeared as main characters in canon was almost 30 years ago, I was talking about the Dragon Ball Z and Dragon Ball GT versions. Goten and present Trunks were not favored characters by fans, even when they have a small fanbase and have some fanworks throughout the years, they were still mostly listed as a funny dumb duo and unmarketable by the franchise. This leads to these two characters not being developed and touched upon by their creators for many years, because Toriyama is the type of artist that would draw because he likes it, yes, but he would cater to the masses of fans more (for example, a lot of his decision in the writing of Dragon Ball was suggested to alter into something else that fit the general audience more and he would mostly agreed, like his desire for Gohan to be the main character after the Cell arc, but Goku was brought back into the picture due to his iconic popularity and flat-character type, and that’s how we got 30 years of Goku’s journey). This personality of his would later have a hand in him selling his ownership and license of Dragon Ball to Shueisha (main license holder), Toei (animation license holder) and Bandai (merchandise license holder). Akira Toriyama is the creator in name only, but big decisions are not depended on him. He’s pretty much like Stan Lee - the creator of Spider Man, but all the copyrights and licenses are hold by Marvel.

- In late 2019, I decided to re-picked up the Dragon Ball manga due to nostalgia. While remembering about my love for Goten and Trunks and seeing the lacked of content for them. Being forgotten by their own creators for unjustified reasons, I decided to write and draw my own story for Goten and Trunks, and published it to the internet since May 2021 on many social media platforms, but Twitter is where I’m the most active. And Twitter is the main international platform for many official account of Japanese brands, including manga, anime and of course, Dragon Ball.

- Any loyal Dragon Ball fans in the fandom community will know they mostly love the Toriyama style, and most will try to make their fan works in his style to honor him and the show itself (and will get more attention from other fans). And even though my webcomic is not as favorable as other Toriyama style fan arts and fanseries/fancomic due to the personal unique art style (I have my own drawing style) and differences in tone and storytelling (while the show mostly veers in the humor/gag/action direction, mine is more towards the dramatic/angsty/introspective side), it did raise the awareness to other fans in the community about the potential of the “forgotten half Saiyans”. Especially when two of my good friends that I usually talked and hyped with on Twitter are a Dragon Ball fanartist (@/amartbee) and a Dragon Ball content creator/YouTuber (@SLOplays) that always share official news of the show on his page, I included their handle names in here just for a few examples, in no way do I want to pull them in this whole mess of course. But anyway, both have a big following on Twitter, have big influences and love Dragon Ball.

- And they love my webcomic. The fanartist shared my webcomics a lot to her page and her community (blessed her), and while the content creator didn’t share it (except for a few times), he felt the love I have for Goten and Trunks that I put in my fan comics, and love them more and shared that feeling to his fans as well. So through my and their influences, the fans during the covid-era began to see the light on these characters, and want to see more of their potential as well as love them more. During this time, the Dragon Ball Super manga was in the Moro and Granolah arc, still focused on the journey of Goku and Vegeta defeating opponents in space, because they’re the fan-favorite, the icon of the brand for many years and Toei/Shueisha felt right to continue milking them for content and marketable purposes. Until the midst of 2021...

- After my webcomic started in summer of 2021 for a few months, the official account/website of Dragon Ball began to dropped the news of “DRAGON BALL SUPER: SUPER HERO” movie (in production) in late 2021. And everyone was curious over what’s this all about.

- Then in February 2022, we had the full key visual for DRAGON BALL SUPER: SUPER HERO movie like this. “That’s something we have never seen before right?”. Yes, indeed it was. It was. But everyone was ecstatic, including me.

- During the time of the movie being in the production stage, several visuals and interviews from the animation staff member as well as Toriyama himself were published online, twitter was always the fastest of course. Toriyama said he wanted to make Piccolo as the main character for this movie only, but Toei wanted to include Gohan as the co-protagonist to lure in the Saiyan fans, which held the more dominant side of the fanbase. Hence why the movie had two protagonists that were Piccolo and Gohan. But the weird thing is, they decided to finally include the Super’s teenager version of Goten and Trunks this time. They were drawn by Toriyama, but I can tell based on how good he was as a character designer, Toriyama himself didn’t think much about their designs due to how simple they were. This made me feel like they were not at the forefront of his mind, and more like he was “told to do”.

- When the movie was finally released across the globe from June 2022 until the rest of the year, we found out about the scene with Goten/Trunks was only about 2 minutes, and they did nothing major in the movie. This would later confirmed my theory of this movie being an experiment and a very clever survey from Toei to know the taste of the international fans at the time with characters other than Goku and Vegeta (because they had been milking them for almost 30 years and even when these two are still the icon, the taste of ithe fans have changed).

Despite that, their 2 minutes on-screen was enough for me, my friends, our friends and followers/fans to expressed our love for these two through likes, shares, fanarts and everything else.

- During this time, I still worked on my passion project aka the Goten and Trunks webcomic series, and with a few fan arts mixed in along the way. Still hyped with my friends and followers as a fan on many social media platforms. Love them, the hype in this fandom is real.

- After the movie was aired for a few months, in August 2022 chapter 87 ended with a note from the editorial staff that said the manga would go on hiatus to prepared for the next arc. This would later confirm my theory of “this break” being the time when the whole franchise and “Dragon Ball” brand’s marketing/research department to check on the stats from the movie (that acted as a survey for international fans) to know which direction to go next.

- Until August 2022, the official account/website of Dragon Ball dropped the visuals of the next arc, which included Goten and Trunks as super heroes, and this arc would be the arc before the Super Hero movie with them as the protagonists.

This is when I began to feel a queasy feeling that whispered something like “that was... Odd. Good but... Odd”. Because from the beginning of Dragon Ball Super until now, it has always been a Goku and Vegeta’s journey to space, there was no build up, no anything to lead to Goten and Trunks being protagonists at this point. Below are some examples from the Moro arc, they still remained in kid’s forms like what they have been for so many years like this.

- In November 2022, there’re leaks about the next arc of Dragon Ball Super aka chapter 88, and we found out this arc will focus on Trunks and Goten’s high school life, with Trunks as a protagonist and learn how to be a superhero.

This was when everything came crashing down on my head, shattered my rose colored glasses and connected all the dots. I decided to wait a bit longer to confirm my theory by reading chapter 88 and see the content in it. While most of the fans were ecstatic, because they finally got what they wanted: Goten and Trunks finally got their spotlight in canon; I was feeling nervous more.

- In 20th December 2022, chapter 88 got released and while it caught the eye of many fans from both Japan and the international, the first chapter of the arc got mixed reviews due to it focuses too much on Trunks’s crush on Mai to the point of forcing readers to accept it. I wrote this thread right after reading chapter 88, giving out my prediction. And later today, it got confirmed by Toyotaro himself in an interview: he did intend to put in lots of romance in this arc.

- But after all of this, I mostly saw the weird and lots of lots of “coincidence” in my theme and the Super manga theme. They are both alike, and TOTAL POLAR OPPOSITE. Yo I’m currently making the place Sean Shanahan is from (the idea is that it’s a collection of kingdoms/city-states full of characters based on folklore/fairy tales/mythology/legends/public domain stories and the kingdoms being based on the places they originate from) and after I’m done making the places and characters I plan on writing stories in that setting focusing on Sean Shanahan (the stories taking place before or after BG3 is still up in the air but I’m leaning towards after) and I wanted to know if you would be fine with me sharing my work here when I start writing?

This is something I've been wanting to talk about for a while, it's also for Githzerai anon if you happen to read this and for anyone who wants to to also share their OC in the future.

I don't mind it really, i actually like it and I love hearing about all the different OCs and the creative ways people weave their original characters into bg3 and put their own spin on things.

What I mind, is when it's the only thing someone would talk about. At the end of the day I am a writing blog, not an OC appreciation one, it's just something I do on the side.

So you can imagine my feelings when I keep posting stories and posts about why I want my readers to engage more, only for my two most active people in asks to end just talking about their own OC and writing all the time?

It's especially disheartening when I see any of you interacting with other stories or sending compliment messages for them to my asks, but never my own stories or writing, it almost feels insulting at this point.

It's like going to an open buffet someone invited you to, and bring your own food and eating it, and only talking about your own food. I love trying other's foods but not all the time.

But I also understand that it is a huge compliment for someone to trust and like me enough to share their writing and things about their OCs. I am honoured, really. But I am also human and I want to talk about my own writing and stuff.

A lot of times, I dread replying to the OC asks because of how much there is in comparison to asks that are about me or my writing. Your OCs are interesting, they are well written and dynamic, but this is my blog dedicated to my own writing.

I don't want to feel like you're only here to share your own writing and never interact with mine, it feels being taken for granted or used. It's nice every now and then but it's becoming all you and Githzerai anon talk about.

It was better at the start when the two of you'd be verstile, balance it out. But it's become too much now.

So I don't think I'll be taking or answering anymore OC asks. I answered all the ones I had in my inbox today and I'm putting a stop to it because this is really diverging from the original purpose of the blog.

I'm sorry, It won't be okay for you to share your Sean writing with me. Not after ignoring all my of my own writings and just talking about your own, it's really unfair. I wish you the best, tho! I'm sure you'll find readers who enjoy and appreciate your stuff on your own blog.

Also, I'm not mad or anything, I'm not taking this personally, I promise. I'm just establishing my boundaries. The two of you are still welcome here and in my asks as readers only. Like any other person here who shares their general idea or requests stuff.

ok disclaimers: i was not personally involved in the parastucking this is mostly stuff i remember from lurking in both fandoms around 2012 and therefore the details or timelines may be inaccurate because it's 2023 and 2012 was 11 years ago what the sodding fuck

but basically im sure you know that there used to be homestuck references in paranatural (ex. GENUINE DISTRESS!), and that zack morrison did the first and last comics of paradox space as well as made some merch for hussie and also parts of [s] game over (i.e. they used to talk)

back when comments were open on pnat's site, it was clear from reading comments that there was a lot of overlap b/w hamsteak fans and paranatural fans

(And i guess earthbound fans too come to think of it, the overlap pipeline was like earthbound --> homestuck --> paranatural --> undertale coming later in 2015.)

i can confirm the above pipeline worked for me at least because that was the exact order i discovered all of these in

there were also percy jackson references here and there because i specifically remember someone saying "move over jason grace there's a new weatherboy in town" somewhere around isaac revealing he had lightning powers and there definitely was a paranatural percy jackson au but that's neither here nor theer)

so naturally if you look at really old blogs (think fyeahparanatural which mercifully is still up) you find a lot of little crossovers here and there but relevant to the purposes of ur au is that a lot of people drew characters in their god tiers (there was never like, a consensus on who got what god tier everyone seemed to have a diff take on it)

idk how many of these artists are still active in the community let alone tumblr itself but assuming the blogs aren't deactivated you could shoot them an ask or two and see if they respond

what sucks is that there used to be a paranatural tumblr that was specifically dedicated to crossovers and they for SURE had documented all homestuck crossovers but i can't remember the url and i have no guarantee that's even still up but if someone has that PLEASE GIVE US THE URL

there also might've been parastuck stuff on deviantart just going off the timeline of homestuck and paranatural being popular at the same time around like 2011-2013 but i'm not super familiar with that content if it exists (i'll look into it tho seeing as i've recently been trying to track down bobby pendragon content on deviantart for a completely diff fandom)

Ohhh. I actually have a lot!! I only have rp'd one ship on Bakugou before ( though I am not sure if it exactly counts bc Bakugou never fully got his head out of his ass for anything to happen AOWEINAWE ) but on my old muses I've shipped a couple different pairings and many moments are dear to me.

to keep inline with this blog tho, i'll mention from the one ship i did rp here. though it's still hard to pick a favourite memory. Maybe the time Katsuki took hold of (Jordyn's) Shoto's hand because there was lingering frost from his quirk. ( katsuki, willingly making his hands colder?? the hands he needs to stay warm so he can produce sweat and fight??? he knew what he was doing and he was doing it anyways ) and then Shoto handing over his frosted hand again later so Katsuki could warm it again. Oh no awoeinawe. You'll have to p r y his little heart open to admit he has anything close to a crush, and he wouldn't flirt with someone (on purpose) when he has no intention of like purposing the relationship.

That being said, the on purpose is important. Because he'll absolutely show bias towards those he has a crush on even before he fully realized himself he's crushing. But, still not really flirty. Just more of being a softy though he'd try and deny it.

It depends on the person!! My Katsuki is demiromantic, so if he isn't close to you and you flirt he is just going to be super disinterested. Probably make you feel dumb bc he's a mean guy aoweinawe

If he's interested and not yet ready to admit it out loud — he's going to panic!! Emotions are NOT his strong suit. He needs time to really think over everything before he can actually understand how he feels. It doesn't come easy to him!!! Depending on how sudden the realization was, he may try and avoid thinking through all the feelings at first. But he'll get there eventually since he hates being a coward. ( he is tho. a emotionally constipated mess )

If he's interested and ready to face said feelings — tbh I'm not sure yet! I haven't gotten that far haha. Probably depends on the dynamic a lot. He likes challenges so he'd probably make it into a challenge. But at the same time he's not used to showing or willingly receiving blatant affection so openly, so he'd absolutely stumble a lot trying to flirt till he's more used to it.

sag moon and rising signs are a great match for chan! sag risings come off as a lot of fun and open-minded, able to talk to a wide array of people. sag's are also very curious by nature, so it's likely that you'd have a lot to talk with chan about, as well as be able to easily find common ground with his friends or family. i think this is something that's probably really important to chris, as being with the people he loves being one of his top priorities.

this is one of the many things I struggle with in a relationship. This trip with my boyfriend has unmasked me completely. We’ve been together for almost three years and I hope to god we’re together for 1000 more. Usually I hide all my ugliness away; my hot temper, my impatience, my irresponsibility. But to my absolute surprise (and horror) everytime he insists on loving me anyway and knowing more about it - about me. This isn’t to say that I purposely hurt him or fuck up. I love him so much I try so hard to love him well everyday I want to get better at it. I’m so mad at myself when I do fuck up and he tells me honestly when I do. I never wanna forgive myself when I do. And maybe that’s just the fatalist way about me but oh my god it’s like his kindness and love are relentless- which is why I wanna do everything I can to make sure I don’t fuck this up.

SYNOPSIS. after heeseung meets y/n at a fansign and learns about her fan account she has dedicated to him, he grows curious, only to later make a fan account of his own, hiding behind a fake persona, all to learn more about the intriguing girl he met at a fansign.

days passed from when you began your hiatus, and to say heeseung missed you was an understatement. you and him hadn’t known each other for that long, yet the close chemistry you two had was rare.

you even considered hopping back onto twitter quickly just to say hi to him, but you controlled yourself, knowing it was for the best.

he wanted you back so badly; he even reread some of the many conversations you had with each other. but ultimately, he just hoped you were okay.

heeseung expected for your absence in his life to have a somewhat positive effect on him in the way that his mind wouldn’t always be so preoccupied with you, with his eyes constantly glued to his phone, messaging you. but contrary to how he anticipated, he was wrong. in fact, the lack of your presence had his mind constantly filled with thoughts of nothing but you. and he would always be checking his phone in case you came back. but as all of these things piled up, it took a toll on his health; he wasn’t smiling nearly as much anymore and he was losing sleep.

you, on the other hand, were keeping up with the daily enhypen content, and you noticed heeseung seemed a lot more exhausted and often out of it.

but of course, you never made the connection, as the heeseung you knew was ‘heeseung from enhypen,’ and the friend you had taken a break from talking to, was ‘evan.’

one day as heeseung once again sat gloomy on the couch in their living room, the boys went to talk to him with the hope that they could lift his mood. they asked him how the fan account was going.

heeseung looked up at them and let out a deep sigh.

“it’s not going. it’s not going anywhere,” he moped. “i didn’t mention it to you guys, but y/n has been taking a break from twitter. and now the whole purpose for the fan account is just—gone. i-“

“what fan account?” a voice interrupted from across the room.

it was one of the boys’ managers.

“i- uh-“ heeseung’s voice shuddered.

the boys all nervously exchanged eye contact with one another, not knowing what to say.

“heeseung,” their manager repeated with assertion. “what fan account?”

his entire body grew tense yet trembled out of nervousness and guilt. he didn’t know what to do. he was done for.

if the managers found out the truth, which they would then tell the company, who knows—he could lose his entire career. and there was a good chance that he was going to lose you, too.

“heeseung,” the manager repeated loudly.

“i-“ he felt his face become pale.

but then a buzz from heeseung’s phone caught his attention. he picked it up and looked at the notification displayed on his screen.

“heeseung!” the manager yelled, growing frustrated.

still staring at his phone, a smile—the first one in a long time—grew to heeseung’s lips.

*Know my work first before trying to befriend me(genuine interest in my work=genuine interest in me)

*Know im not always nice but will try to keep things friendly as much as possible

*It’s ok to make a mistake, but don’t make the same mistake twice

*Take note i occasionally make 18+ skeleton materials so when you happen to bump into one and it’s totally not your cup of tea, know that it’s on you for not reading this pinned post

*Don’t do “what’s everyone’s reaction to this” “what do you think of my oc” in my Ask box. Ask one to two characters only because like you, i get tired drawing too. Unless the question including multiple characters of mine is answerable with words then ok

*Note that i answer asks in three ways; with words only(occasional old art for visuals), drawings(static or animated) or not answering at all. So in such case i dont answer immediately with words, then your ask might be answered with a drawing(or with a gif if it’s taking longer, no promises) or has been ignored due to technical difficulties that i don’t want to answer it.

*Do not submit to me your oc that isnt even related to my characters, im not gonna be some advertisement ad to showcase your stuff in my blog even if that’s not your intention and im not an art teacher who you be submitting your art to. Im sorry, i just can’t give any genuine opinion on things i didnt make or not interested in(it requires me to think harder than i should and I don’t want that) but im not saying your art is bad or anything

*Yes, its totally fine with me to draw fanart of my characters (and to tag me lol) There's no need to ask permission. But i do discourage any fanart that is intended to cause bad image to my characters, any acts relating to hate, racism and assholism. Im against that. Im ok with fanarts with ships(my character x oc/another Avjverse/nonavjverse character). As long as you dont claim it to be the official one and/or canon, im ok with it. If i say i dont like a certain ship, you can still make fanart just dont tag me.

*Dont initiate RP that is meant to be long and reblogged in the asks, i dont do that. Well, occasionally with friends only, and most likely not in tumblr

*Note i block accounts that had been deemed enough to be hot listed

*I prefer not to be tagged in a post where someone is requesting to draw my characters, solo or in group. I had this notorious troll who was very rude and theyre adamant in requesting many people to draw my characters which i honestly dont want them to since they have zero respect for my characters at all and theyre also notorious in changing acc names as well as creating new ones, their usual intro is "hi, im new here" when they're actually not. I just don't want to be in the same post as they are so i request to not be tagged in such situation.

*dont start with "hi i love your art/your oc, can you draw <request>", it's registered in my brain negatively, leads me to think you're only complimenting me/my art/my characters because you want something from me. My brain will hotlist you, even if you were of good intention

*know that AVJ is unpredictable and the way our head functions varies from moment to moment. We're working on our part and it would be a nice if you also take part on yours
