I don’t think I could work without the feedback of other people.
For context, I’m redesigning a book cover (again) for uni and I chose the book One By One by Ruth Ware. This time, unlike the other times, I have been assigned to make at least 10 pages of text from the story, so this is the feedback I’ve gotten from some of the ideas I worked on.
I think I have a sharp mind when it comes to design and I think I have good ideas and feedback myself, but I still need the feedback of other people because people see what I can’t always see. I also like to ask everyone I know, not just my professors and classmates, because friends have good feedback as well. Knowing who to ask is tricky sometimes, because not everyone has good feedback to give. Take it with a grain of salt really, but I seriously couldn’t do this without critiques from others.

Side Project WIP - Name Pending
This one is a personal WIP so I wanted to talk about it more than just show it. Again, this is just a WIP for now.
I don’t focus on the past nearly as much as I should, nor the future, my head is always in the present, in the now, thinking about my projects and the people I currently have in my life. That being said, when people I know pass away, I don’t stop for a second to think about it, I keep going, as a defense mechanism for my own well-being.
I grew up in foster care, something I don’t talk about almost at all with anyone, so I’ve seen a lot of people come and go when I was younger, and keeping my head up and not stopping was a way to survive for me. Having said that, my foster mother passed away in March, and I did what I always do, until, long story really short, something prompted me to go back to our last messages, which spiraled me into realizing I’m still mourning, and I’ve been stopped in my tracks ever since.
I have a tendency to want to write when I am blue, hence why I started a few project series relating to literature, like The Painted Poems Project, this project, and another that is still in production for now. This isn’t a way to cope or process my emotions exactly, it’s more so a way to get myself unstuck, and to devote some time and effort into projects that mean the world to me.
This WIP piece is about the last phone call I had with my foster mother, specifically the way she spoke to me and how I was unable to communicate with her. I was the listener that day, when I should’ve been the talker, the one to give solace. Part of this is to display the realization that uncertainty is always a guest at the dinner table. The other part of this project is to display something that is stuck in your head, repeated over and over again, like that phone call is to me, the radios acting as a broken record, this is the part I will emphasize and work on later. I do not know what to call this series yet but I will think about it as I continue to work on it.
The reason I’m showing this early as a WIP is because the process is just as important as the outcome, and it’s taken me too long to see that. I make a lot of art and music and I never share the process, the reasons why, and I’m here to change that for this project.
(Also, this project was originally supposed to be blue themed, but this was a happy accident, and I think it plays well with the message still.)
Bonus: I made a new crown badge to keep up with this project and it turned out a lot better than I anticipated to be honest. :D

Did you know that the USCIS is going through citizenship dated from the year 2018 just now? 🤔😤
I took the time to make last semester a little more meaningful to me and make designs and art that hits a little closer to home. Not many people I talk to know the struggles of being an immigrant and how amazingly messed up the process gets, and I decided it was time I start telling my story through my art.
As an artist and designer, it is my job to make an impact on the world with my art, and because everything I do stems from the idea that I’ve always wanted to be a story teller, what better story can I tell than the one about my immigration process? After all, it is my job as an artist to try to bring attention to important issues.
These designs and a few others I’m currently working on are just the beginning of the more important stories I am going to tell. From my upcoming albums to my designs and illustrations, I’m starting a process of art that is more meaningful to me and hopefully to you all, but this is just a long way of saying I’m telling bigger stories now. I hope this infographic gives you an idea about some of the oddities within immigration, as these are facts not necessarily relating to the numbers given on the USCIS reports.

When you’re an artist, a lot of times I find myself making something, feeling really proud of it, and then tucking it away in my website portfolio and leaving it there. It’s different when you make music though. Sometimes I sit and listen to the stuff I’ve made and it induces a different kind of happiness, especially the stuff I’ve made more recently as I’ve gotten better and figured out what makes my music mine.
I am incredibly excited to be finalizing the next album I’m releasing called Fables. I’ve been working on this album for about a year and a half now, so this album will be different and new but still me. Not only are there lyrics but there’s a few stories and an ongoing story to be told in this album.
As you listen to the first song of Fables called Fly Away Little Bird (releases 5/29/24), keep in mind of the story being told so you can get a feel for how the rest of the album is going to go. There’s a list of characters you can pinpoint specific sounds to in Fables, as listed below:
Characters in Fables:
Mr. Wolf (the most prominent character)
Sheep (who is technically the narrator which is just me)
Sunflower
Rabbit
Morning Dove (only described as a bird)
Dust and Wind
(A few more characters got cut but will make a return later because the story of fables is far from finished in this album.)
The point of Fables is to tell stories, some written by me and some are original fables. The point of a fable is to tell a story with a moral behind it, or a lesson. In this album, every story has a lesson but it’s a little harder to understand the meaning and there can be more than one way to look at the story so the lesson that I meant to give isn’t necessarily the lesson you might get out of it, and that’s kind of the point of a lot of prose writing in general. Here’s the roster of songs and their meaning in relative order (I might change a few songs around still) to give you a better idea for what’s to come:
Fly Away Little Bird (not staying where you’re not thriving)
Cry Wolf (the story of the kid who cried wolf)
Umbrella (letting people take care of you too)
Sun Shower (not seeing the full picture)
Stories (not every story having a happy ending)
Animal (grieving in your own way)
Smells Like Spring (staying hopeful when uncertain)
Dust (doing something to fix a situation)
Weather (accepting change and “being all in”)
Little Rabbit (knowing people’s true intentions)
The Bird Has Flown (how things are connected together)
As you can tell a lot of thought was put into this album so this album is one of the most important things I’ve ever created and I am so ecstatic to share it with everyone, I am practically bouncing up and down walls for this. As I’m finalizing everything, which will take another month or two to finish, remember to hydrate and stay cool and keep an eye for further announcements.
And since you read this entire post, here’s a little bonus cover art for the album Fables, and the songs Fly Away Little Bird and Umbrella:

Ode to Taking the Time Needed ⏳
I’ve been working on a lot of projects,
but I haven’t been sharing any lately.
As my art starts to shift and take new directions,
I find myself dabbling in artistic ways I haven’t touched in years.
I’ve been writing poetry, lyrics, fables.
I’ve been composing music, soundscapes, stories.
I’ve been photographing, creating, imagining.
I’ve been connecting with myself more,
With my surroundings,
With the friends that matter most.
I’m still here, just quietly working away.
It’s okay to not have the energy to post.
It’s okay to take a break sometimes.
Take care of yourselves, always and forever,
Because there’s only one of you. 🩵
