i absolutely love the great ace attorney chronicles soundtrack!! i’m literally going to make video essays about it (soon, once i’m less busy) it’s really hard for me to pick one favorite honestly so i’ll give you 3

my favorite situational theme is either Suspense I or Partners (ESPECIALLY THE ARRANGEMENT ON YOUTUBE). i love the dramatic and droning tones of suspense, but the partners just gets me so fucking hyped for all of the reasons in that post (spoilers for tgaa 2 in the hyperlink) (links to songs under the cut)

my favorite character theme is a tgaa 2 spoiler (this soundtrack is insane in that the titles of the songs are spoilers, so quit reading if you’re planning on playing tgaa 2)

Since people asked, I'd like to remind everyone that also Hatsune Miku isn't owned by Sega, her rhythm games are. And that includes a mobile game that created some brand new characters.

I admit it's a bit iffy, but I took it to a vote, and people wanted Miku in the tournament. So that opens up Project Diva/Project Sekai characters.

From Yukari help them with their project even when her life was a mess to Isabella being the voice of the reason and a mother figure, or Miwako helping Yukari finding a Job to Arashi standing for Yukari even when he wasn't agree with her life decisions, or George choosing being loyal to his friends over taking the opportunity of his life, to Isabella quitting a job opportunity in order to help his childhood friend...

There's one song that's basically an asoryuu tribute theme that was cut from the game for being "too sentimental" it's one of resolve's unused tracks i think it was a preorder bonus.

"The Great Secret Trial Beta Version 1" “I was so determined to create something extraordinary for Ryuunosuke and Kazuma’s epic battle that I ended up going a bit overboard. Using motifs from both their themes, I thought to make a very thick and rich piece. Alas, it didn’t feel right for Kazuma’s theme to come in first, and it was too emotional, so it didn’t make the grade.” -Kitagawa

Thank you for your response!! Let me also put a read more since I ended up pretty immediately diving into spoiler territory in my reply.

I also absolutely love Kazuma's theme. The funny thing about how I got into Dai Gyakuten Saiban at first was that I watched a translated no-commentary video of the first three chapters and then got distracted by university (and probably Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood) in early 2016. So, like, I was fully convinced that Kazuma was dead (evidence) and got so attached to both his uplifting main theme and his calming yet mournful Nocturne theme. And they were some of the few tracks I could consistently track down to relisten to over the years so they're dear to me.

Having said that, I love your mini analysis of Kazuma's prosecutor theme. They (Hiromitsu Maeba apparently) did such a great job on it! It knocked my socks off to hear a theme I was so familiar with reworked into an antagonistic prosecutor theme! So cool! Heck yeah, knock him right off that pillar I put him on so many years ago!

And I fully agree that the London theme is very fun.

Yes, Barok's theme is wonderful!! My favorite prosecutor theme in the series, hands down. This man is presented to you as intimidating and his theme backs that up. That potential connection of why they chose a harpsichord for him is such a funny detail to think about. On a related note, have you heard Wayne Strange's cover of it? I always love hearing other people's interpretations of video game tracks I enjoy.

Oh yeah, and the Reminiscences version of his theme is definitely haunting, I agree.

I want to briefly mention my favorite themes beyond what you've covered! When determining favorites my brain sometimes holds up a song and goes "Does it spark comfort??" and latches onto the songs that best do the job.

So in that case Beyond Deduction's Logic is one of my top favorites. I just find it so easy to sway in contentment to that violin. (TeraCMusic has a fantastic cover of it by the way)

Another in that vein of logic would be Susato's Serenade, especially because I associate it with soft chats with her in the dark attic of 221B. I just love Susato, to be honest.

An odd one for me to latch onto, perhaps, is The Great Gateway to Truth. Resolve in the face of terrible truths, I suppose.

And I definitely have to give a quick shout-out to A Farcical Comedy and Enoch Drebber's themes. They're both so funny to me.

Hello! You may have discussed this before but I was just struck with curiosity. What are your favorite songs on the Dai Gyakuten Saiban soundtrack (both Adventures and Resolve)? You always seem so knowledgeable when discussing classical music so I wonder how that impacts how you experience game music.

first up is kazuma's theme.

it's so good!!!! it's so full of encouragement and hope and confidence!!

next is this track:

it's just fun!!!! it really gives the player a good vibe of what it's like to be in victorian london...

ok ok next is. bvz's theme lol

first of all. the intro is just so EPIC. i mean!!!!! the harpsichord???? it's brilliant. i can't help but wonder if they threw harpsichord in there bc his name is baroque. anyway. i like the theme on the strings and how it really builds the image of the grim reaper of the old bailey.

THAT SAID!!!!! compare that now to his 'reminisce' theme

it feels like a much more tragic and haunted version of his main theme... like you see past the scary reaper thing and now you just see the tragic man he is.

ok speaking of characters with multiple themes. my next fave is this!

kazuma's prosecutor theme. it is SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!! partly bc of all the references it has to his original theme!!! it's in a minor key instead of a major key which i feel like gives it such a vibe. like kazuma is distressed. he's out for revenge. he's mean now. he's tragic now. and then they throw in the little melody from his first theme and it's just brilliant. like it reminds you of how smart he is. how capable he is. this was the same man who studied for years to become a competent defense attorney and now he's your enemy.

i also like how it has a mix of like. the japanese vibes mixed with the british vibes. this is kazuma in britain. he's wearing british clothes in a british court. idk i feel like it just makes it sink in that like. this guy is not the same kazuma from before. maybe you never truly knew him!!!

anyway. those are like my top 5. i love the entire ost!!!!! they did an amazing job with it.
