And so the Amulet brainrot continues! Here's a re-design of Emily for the later books.

You'll notice that I completely omitted the vest and hooded cloak. I always felt like the cloak would be kind of hard to move around and fight in, so I decided to ditch it. (I was low-key worried about ruining her silhouette, until I realized that her silhouette with the cloak didn't look anything special). And I took away the vest because I feel like that's a standard outfit choice a lot of the characters go with as the series progresses, and as a main character, I feel like Emily should stand out a bit more.

I decided to put her hair up and make her outfit a bit more travel-ready by giving her pockets and a bag in which to store things, as well as boots that I think would be easier to get around in. She sort of looks like she's getting ready to go hiking, but I think that fits the adventure vibe she has going.

Also, what program are you using for animation? This looks really good!

Am I??? Getting somewhere?? I dont know. I'm not super satisfied w the hair animation but one can always learn better

This was a gift made for Ei ( @motherstone ) that got WAY OUT OF HAND, but honestly? Maybe that's a good thing. The designs are all his, although Riva's design is now outdated (the consecuence of starting a project and coming back to it months later). The song is a music box version of Hymne à l'amour (coughcough,gottenfromcapcut,coughcough), and the idea behind the editing is to make it seem like a retro cartoon. Below are the still images used, and i hope yall like it!

And so I continue this spiral of Amulet re-designing insanity with re-designing Navin.

I'm gonna be real, here. Navin has never had a good design. (Actually, now that I think about it, I think Trellis was the only character who's initial design was legitimately fire, but I digress). I didn't totally know what to do with him until I remembered that he's a ten-year-old boy, and at book eight I think he's twelve. So I decided to take that into account and give him the asymmetrical socks, ripped shorts and sleeveless jacket. He's meant to be the more tech-savvy of the group, so I wanted to give him goggles like we see on the cover of book three. I wanted to really make him look like someone who'll spend his time with robots and ships, rather than a child who was haphazardly thrown into the story (which is kinda what happens in the canon story, but again, I digress).

Not sure who else I'd do a re-design for. Possibly Luger, but I dunno.

AMULET BY KAZU KIBUISHI IS MY ROMAN EMPIRE

A while back, after the release of book 9, I started chatting with @motherstone (an INCREDIBLE artist, even if you're not an amulet fan you GOTTA check his art out) and he shared this idea he had for a comic that he wanted to make but didn't really have the time to at that moment.

And me, lowkey loving the concept, proposed the idea that I make the comic for him as a gift.

This is the result.

-Concept credits go ENTIRELY to motherstone, from Emily's and Trellis' designs to the script

-I did the art and modified a bit of the script

-And obviously, all of the characters were created by Kazu Kibuishi and belong to him and Scholastic, along with Amulet as a whole. This is fanart inspired by the series.

New little book recommendation series; books I read when I was a kid that I don’t think are necessarily underrated but need more love, because I never hear them talked about.

Amulet, by Kazu Kibuishi:

“After a family tragedy, Emily, Navin, and their mother move to an ancestral home to start a new life. On the family’s very first night in the mysterious house, Em and Navin’s mom is kidnapped by a tentacled creature. Now it’s up to Em and Navin to figure out how to set things right and save their mother’s life!” (Summery from the back cover of the first book, “The Stonekeeper”)

This book series is absolutely amazing, and reading it as an older sibling was a great experience, because to me it’s a lot about Emily’s relationship with her little brother, and each of them allowing the other to change, grow and mature.

For context of how big a fan of this series I am, my dad made this amulet when I was little:

(He’s a big fan too) and I got a signed poster (completely by chance though, I was buying the ninth book and they just gave it to me lol) but seriously. Read this series.

Will do more amulet art and even writings to try and comfort my inner child from whatever that book was 😭 I’m glad I finally got the full collection tho, so slay
