Then another, clad in chrome, and holding a wicked-looking vibrospear, struck the ground like a hammer, the armoured knuckles of its free hand crunching the stone. Cracks radiated out from the impact as the figure's head rose, gleaming with the distinctive silvery sheen of ultrachrome. The unseen eyes immediately locked onto Rey – her attention could be felt through the Force, a threat in its own right.

 Ryloth gave the Resistance shelter after Crait, and paid for it with a First Order occupation. Now the Twi'leks have risen up against the First Order, and the Resistance has a debt to repay.

Finally finished writing my fic The Ghosts of Jakku, so I can at last post @justshamie's gorgeous, heart-rending lovely lovely lovely painting of the story's ending with Rey and Kaydel (though Kaydel herself is a hologram, not a ghost).

when the Empire glassed Mandalore, Lady Bo-Katan Kryze lost contact with her nephew and his near infant daughter

years later, as the First Order begins to rise, Lady Kryze and her new government see the signs of a coming war, and Bo-Katan desperately wishes to bring her great niece, her last living family member, home safely before another major conflict rocks the galaxy

what Poe Dameron sees, on the other hand, is a chance to save General Organa some major headaches by endearing themselves to a major military power, maybe even earning their support for the newly-formed Resistance, by finding and returning her lost niece...

which leads him to his abrupt landing on Jakku with his newly-recruited former-stormtrooper friend, Finn

where he finds a very strange young lady, about the right age even if she lacks the characteristic reddish hair he expected, with an uncanny ability to expect what's coming next and sense things around her

and he remembers all the rumors and stories General Organa has shared with him about how Lady Kryze's sister supposedly had a dalliance with a Jedi, the future General Kenobi, and that Lady Kryze seemed to believe them

which allows him to develop a Scheme: he and Finn will help Rey pass as the lost Kryze, and when they

Rey is willing to go along with Poe and Finn, both because she hopes to find her family on the journey and because the First Order arrived on Jakku and started bombing her home looking for her once Kylo Ren figured out that she was a candidate to be the missing Kryze

as they track down Luke to teach Rey and Finn a bit more about their Force abilities (all in the name of strengthening Rey's case to be the missing daughter of Korkie Kryze, of course, and also because Finn is really interested in learning and looks really cute when he's trying to concentrate on using the Force (shut UP Connix, Poe definitely has his priorities straight)), it becomes clear that Kylo Ren is backed by Palpatine's ghost, who is equally determined to finish what he started by wiping out the last traces of both the Kenobi and Kryze lines

in the end, when the Resistance calls for aide, Mandalore answers

and Rey gets to find her family after all, even though her parents are long dead themselves

(and Rey gets to introduce her boyfriends to her new Auntie Bo, who is Not Impressed but willing to help the two of them Make Improvements in their armor and fighting technique to meet her standards. after all, they're the only family she has left)

This is the third and probably last in this series (apart from some follow-ups and smaller groups that may appear in due course), marking the feast of the Immaculate Conception of Our Blessed Lady with another lot of amazing female/feminine-programmed characters from a galaxy far, far away.

[Design notes: all traced either from Googled pictures (Rey, Rose, Kaydel, Maz, Zorii, Jannah, Torra, Freya and CB-23) or screenshots with Googled pictures or close-up screenshots used to get the faces vaguely right (everyone else, apart from Paige, for whom I had to splice two different shots together, hence the weird proportions). Colour strangeness can be blamed on the lighting of the original shots; I don't know how to compensate for that yet.]

The thing about writing Rey/Kaydel is that yes, you sacrifice the "both active combatants" aspect that Rey/Jess or Reyrose offer to different degrees, but you gain the delicious aspect that while Rey is fighting, Kaydel's in mission control. She has to watch and/or hear Rey risking her life, but she's painfully limited on what she can do to help, and all the while she has to just keep on.
