Nirmal Tiwari Kanpur: A Journey Through Literature and Politics
Nirmal Tiwari, a prominent figure in the world of literature and politics, was born on August 10, 1973, in the serene village of Manwa Rasoolabad, Kanpur. His remarkable journey is a testament to his passion for writing, his dedication to social causes, and his foray into the world of politics.
From an early age, Nirmal Tiwari Kanpur displayed a keen interest in poetry and literature. Even during his Intermediate studies, he started making waves in the literary world. His articles found their way into newspapers like 'Dainik Hint' and 'Naveen Vishwa Manav,' which were published from Ghaziabad. He became a regular contributor to 'Aaj Ki Bowling' in 'Daily Hint' and penned Kundalini verses with satirical flair under the column 'Darpan Jhooth Na Bole' in 'Naveen Vishwa Manav.'
His talent didn't go unnoticed. Nirmal Tiwari Kanpur began conducting the program 'Yuva Vani' on Akashvani, showcasing his oratory skills and literary prowess. He also started participating in various poet conferences. In 1991, he got a remarkable opportunity to participate in the All India Kavi Sammelan, an event presided over by the renowned Dr. Santosh Anand.
During that time, television was a luxury, and Nirmal Tiwari's appearance on Doordarshan was a significant event. Newspapers covered the news, and the excitement was palpable. The young poet from Kanpur was making his mark in the literary world.
In 1990, Nirmal Tiwari founded the 'Gyanvardhini Yuva Sahitya Manch,' an organization aimed at providing a platform for young poets and writers. Under his leadership, the organization organized numerous literary and social programs, furthering the cause of literature.
Recognition continued to pour in, and he was honored with the Sahitya Sadhana Award by Sarva Kala Sangam, a well-known organization of the time. His articles and poems found space in renowned newspapers and magazines across the country.
Nirmal Tiwari's journey took another turn when he worked as an employment news reader on Lucknow Doordarshan in the 90s. His expenses were often covered by his participation in All India Kavi Sammelan and Akashvani Doordarshan programs, reflecting his dedication to literature.
While residing in the Kalyanpur housing development in Kanpur, Nirmal Tiwari formed a youth club that saw more than 1000 young men and women joining as members. This marked the beginning of his entry into politics. He became a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party and actively participated in various programs. His involvement in both literary and political spheres made him a recognized figure.
In 2007, he was nominated by the Bahujan Samaj Party as its candidate from Kalyanpur Assembly for the assembly elections, challenging the incumbent MLA, Premlata Katiyar. Although he faced fierce competition, Nirmal Tiwari was narrowly defeated by 674 votes.
Despite his defeat, he continued to serve the people of Pune as the in-charge of the assembly from 2007 to 2012. His dedication and commitment to social causes remained unwavering.
In 2012, Nirmal Tiwari once again contested as a Bahujan Samaj Party candidate from the Kalyanpur Assembly constituency and was elected to the assembly. However, in 2014, he was nominated by the party for the Kannauj Lok Sabha seat, where he faced stiff competition from Dimple Yadav, a prominent figure in Uttar Pradesh politics. Although he performed admirably, Dimple Yadav emerged victorious.
Despite his political pursuits, Nirmal Tiwari never lost sight of his roots in literature. He continued to write and strengthen his presence in the literary world. He often emphasized that he never planned to stay in politics, and his true passion lay in serving society.
As the 2017 assembly elections approached, the Bahujan Samaj Party nominated Nirmal Tiwari from the Govind Nagar assembly constituency. He expressed his belief that if given the chance to contest from Kalyanpur, he would have secured victory, given his extensive service in the area.
Nirmal Tiwari's life journey is a testament to the power of literature, social activism, and the pursuit of one's passion. His contributions to both literature and politics have left an indelible mark on Kanpur and beyond. His story is an inspiration to all those who seek to make a difference in the world, whether through words or actions.

First Bilingual Literary (Urdu-Hindi) Poetry Recitation at Embassy of India in Washington
It is with great pleasure we welcome you to the first combined Hindi-Urdu poetry recitation session arranged at our Embassy,” said Ambassador Arun Kumar Singh, Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of India greeting the audience assembled to felicitate Professor Satyapal Anand and for a mushaira-kavi sammelan program at the Embassy of India Auditorium on Friday, 10th June, 2011. He acknowledged the support of the community members in the organization of the event and expressed hope to establish a tradition to holding such functions in the future. He also paid tribute to Professor Satyapal Anand for his outstanding contributions to the literature of Urdu, Hindi, English and Panjabi languages.
Thanking Ambassador A. K. Singh and Dr. Virander Paul, Minister, Press, Information and Culture, Embassy of India for their support in organizing the event, Dr. Zafar Iqbal apprised the audience that for the last three years the Embassy of India has been supporting Yaum-e-Azadi (Independence Day) Mushaira-Kavi Sammelan programs jointly organized by the Washington Aligarh Alumni Association (AAA) and the Global Organization of People of Indian Origin of Metro Washington (GOPIO) every year to promote Subcontinent’s Ganga-Jamuni culture. It was very pleasing to note that such events are gaining increasing popularity, he added. Introducing Professor Satyapal Anand- the honoree, Dr. Iqbal said that Professor Anand is a stalwart literary personality of our times; he has enriched the literature of Urdu, Hindi, English, and Panjabi languages authoring more than 70 books. Almost all reputable Urdu magazines of the Subcontinent and the Europe and Northern America have published special numbers acknowledging his remarkable contributions to the field. An indication of Dr. Anand’s recognition is the fact that the US Library of Congress has acquired 18 books authored by Dr. Anand, an honor not shared by any other Indian author in USA. Copies of documents listing publications and a brief biography of Dr. Anand were also distributed at the meeting.
Acknowledging tribute paid to him, Professor Anand thanked Ambassador Singh, participating poets and the organizers of the program. He also mentioned a few anecdotes related to his interactions with contemporary poets, writers, and critics during his many decades of literary life in India and other parts of the globe.
Dr. A. Abdullah, the evergreen conductor of poetry recitation sessions, mentioned in his introductory remarks that Urdu and Hindi are like twin sisters, but unfortunately people with political motives—starting with the British Empire—have tried to inculcate sibling rivalry between them. The faithful lovers of both languages have realized that the progress of Hindi and Urdu is interdependent on each other. He also mentioned that the Aligarh Alumni Association and GOPIO have been successfully providing a common platform for the interaction of Urdu and Hindi literary personalities under one roof for the last three years and that increasing number participants and audience is in these programs is a testimony to the desire of people to share the common heritage.
