“Who knows what they look like on those cameras”, Henry looks up at one that follows the movement of the passing toppats and askers before returning to a neutral position “They’re used to things with high chaos levels…”

“Don’t worry about them”, another voice, a bit too quiet to identify “They’re low level, you know what they are”

“Yeah! They’re fine” “It doesn’t matter how high their level is! And there’s no way to know if the readings are still right. It could still be at least part of 2009!”

“Great… Now they’re fighting… Hey” Earrings almost runs into Sven after rounding another corner.

Before them is a set of doors, the sign above reads ‘Wing A – Teleporter’. But the red light on the keycard reader next to the door is a good indicator for the overall situation.

The doors are locked tight.

“What? Let them in”

“N-no. Stop messing with the console or I lock it down!”, whichever CCC-employee is with Katie and Matilda seems to regret ever making contact with Site-18 “You can’t tell me what to do! You don’t even know what you’re messing with!”

“I do…”, the fourth voice speaks up again “And I tell you that you have to let them through. Or 2009 will truly be the last thing you ever need to worry about”

“… Can we really not talk to them?” Sven looks up at Burt but he shakes his head “Not like this… If the cameras would pick up audio they would’ve heard us by now”

“… None of us have the authority to let them through. You’re not part of the CCC anymore”

“Would it help”, yet another voice “if we took responsibility for what may or may not happen?”

“… I’m fucked one way or the other… Walk through”

The doors open with a hiss, revealing a white room. There are yellow-black markings forming a circle around a metal platform on the ground. Warnings about not touching the walls and keeping all limbs within the marked area are all over. The ceiling above the platform is acting like a skylight, allowing blue light from what looks like a miniature tornado to be one of few light sources in the room.

“To… whatever is with you… The teleporter is going to malfunction if your chaos level is too high…”

“Their level isn’t high enough to cause that”

“It’s your friends who’re getting scrambled…”

Thank you for highlighting the transmisogyny here; it’s been kind of nervewracking watching things go from like, some genuinely cool first steps type of things in the c and then n/phf (albeit with plenty of issues and miles to go) and then seeing things seem to go backwards in the new league

It’s always wild to think about how Jessica platt playing in the cwhl would be received so differently today, and never great to feel we went backwards there. I really only started to follow the cwhl closely at the end so I can’t give the most in depth analysis of their policies, but it remains cool as hell that that she played there

Obviously phf was a mixed bag, Browne playing and coming out and feeling comfortable to do so was great, I like them dropping “women” from the leagues name, and their gender inclusion policy was better than most leagues, but at the same time it was far from perfect and things like letting digit Murphy stay in the league after her transmisogyny was horrible and some players (cough Katie burt cough) had content on their social media pages that were truly abhorrent. But a lot of the more progressive players on full gender equality were leadership players so I think that helped too

With the PWHL I think it reflects a lot of where we are at with more mainstream hockey which is how much it lags behind other sports. Hockey being predominantly white and rich makes achieving intersectional inclusion a bigger roadblock, and I think there’s still a fear of “pissing off conservatives” that exists for the USWNT in hockey and thus the league that’s less prominent in others sports, and more of a fear to rock the boat - which is pretty entangled with the whiteness of the sport and the privilege you are afforded as a white woman. But it’s good for fans to be loud show that they won’t stand for this and make it so teams being silent on hatred/bigotry isn’t an “easy” decision, and important that we as fans acknowledge that transmisogyny is at the forefront of this particular clownery and colors why a lot of her teammates including gay teammates still fuck with curl
