Ten hours later she was sworn in again at a public ceremony in the Red Room of the Capitol. Chief Judge Janet DiFiore, the former district attorney of Westchester County, administered the oath both times to the new 57th governor of the state and the first female to hold the top spot. Cuomo delivered his farewell address at noon on Monday. Following her public swearing-in, Hochul pledged that her administration will function in a spirit of cooperation with legislative leaders. Hochul said that she will be assembling a team to address the situation in which New York state has been sluggish to release federal funds designed to prevent tenants from being evicted. Tenants have complained that they still face the threat of eviction because the vast majority of the more than $2 billion has not been distributed and the application process has been cumbersome and loaded with red tape and technical failures. Landlords have been complaining that they are in financial difficulty because they aren’t getting adequate aid to meet expenses.

Congrats to new New York Gov. Kathy Hochul -- sworn in as NY’s first female governor as the clock struck midnight early today.

Kathy Hochul, the first woman to serve as governor of New York, was sworn in Tuesday during a private midnight ceremony.

The 62-year-old Democrat is taking over the Empire State following the resignation of disgraced former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who stepped down amid sexual harassment allegations.

Chief Judge of the Court of Appeals Janet DiFiore presided over the early morning transition of power at the State Capitol.

The Court of Appeals is what NY calls its state supreme court.

The newly christened leader has already vowed to help New York turn the page from the tumultuous final six months of Cuomo’s tenure which were shadowed by the misconduct claims, an impeachment probe and questions about his administration’s handling of the COVID crisis.

She promised to ax any Cuomo staffers implicated in the damning report from Attorney General James’ office that revealed the former governor sexually harassed 11 women and presided over a “toxic” workplace.

Cuomo left with a meteorological bang. Hurricane Henri dumped copious amounts of rain on New York City.

I did some quick research and discovered that NYC had significant impacts by six tropical cyclones during the Cuomo administration (01 January 2011 - 23 August 2021)
