these are the three steambabies that were in my fic from zutara week! I'm still fleshing them out a bit but I already love them to bits!
all of these are made with this picrew!
Tumblr media
Izumi
Kya's twin
Even though they are both share the title of Crown Princess, Izumi will be the one who takes the throne when she is older
Firebender
She always loved watching her parents bend. She was always drawn to the colorful flames and wanted nothing more than to do the same
Is one of the many reasons why Zuko's hair is greying when he's still only in his thirties because she inherited his knack for running across roofs (now you know how Uncle feels, Zuko lol)
A bit serious at times and mellow, but she most definitely inherited Katara's temper and desire to help others and fight for justice. and she most definitely knows how to have fun! just ask Druk, when he used to be small enough to be draped over her head! See? Fun!
Absolutely loves sea prunes, much to the chagrin of future ambassadors and nobles who visit the palace when she is on the throne and very much do NOT share the same taste
She loves to watch the Ember Island Players and would watch them all day if she could
Because she was the heir to the throne, Zuko was extra mindful to teach Izumi to be a kind ruler who will never even consider hurting her own people. It was one of the hints that she picked up on that pointed to how her father got his scar
Azula was very distant while they were growing up, but Izumi was able to connect with her aunt when she was older and aspired to know her remaining family. They take walks together at least once a week
She rides the mail chutes of Omashu whenever her family visits and nothing and no one can stop her
Tumblr media
Kya
Izumi's twin
The very definition of "I'm funny to hide my insecurities"
Shares the exact same sense of humor as her Uncle Sokka. They get along swimmingly
Waterbender
Was afraid of thunderstorms growing up and thought that made her a weak waterbender, unlike her mother who was always strong and brave
Very much NOT a weak waterbender. In fact, one of the strongest once she was able to overcome the deep-seated insecurity of not being good enough
She has a love for bloodbending. Since she never had the fear of it, Kya developed the art to the point that she noticed something... interesting, like how her father's blood was not the same as her mother's and not even Izumi and Kya's blood were the same! (she provided the stepping stones to the medical breakthrough that there were blood types and how different antigens and the dominance and recessiveness of these genes would determine the blood you could receive and what would be passed down to future generations. thank you, Kya!)
Once she comes of age, Kya almost immediately abdicated her place in line for the throne. She much prefers to be the Fire Nation ambassador to the Southern Water Tribe. it also means she gets to visit her family and play with the otterpenguins! And she doesn't have to wear the stuffy, stiff clothes she's supposed to wear at banquets and parties as the Crown Princess. Furs are far more comfortable
Kya came out to her parents. This caused a chain reaction that ended up creating a section in history books titled "Firelord? More Like Fatherlord" in which Zuko's dad joke is recorded as "Hi lesbian, I'm Dad"
(Katara absolutely hated when he said that. Kya was cackling though because she didn't want them to take it so seriously and it really eased her nerves)
Tumblr media
Lu Ten
The baby of the family (so far... if I decide to create more lol)
Nonbender and is incredibly proud of that fact
Begged to be trained under Master Piandao. He quickly discovered to be very gifted in the art of swordsmanship (and painting! it became a hobby of his after he completed his training)
His favorite genre of theatre is romance. The cheesier, the better (but unlike Izumi, he HATES the Ember Island Players with a passion only a child of a theatre-loving nerd of a firelord could have)
His sisters poke fun at him whenever possible. they have done this during Very Important Meetings With Boring People
He's a mama's boy and he will never deny it. even though he can't bend, he still loves to move through the same waterbending katas his mother goes through and used to follow her around wherever she went
Likes to work at the Jasmine Dragon with Grandpa Iroh
Very confident and has a very thick skin (probably because he's gotten so used to a random customer yelling at him to try and make him feel bad that almost nothing bothers him)
When he first learned about his namesake, he had spent a lot of time thinking. Ultimately, he decided to bring honor to a family member who deserved to see a better world. And he gave Grandpa an even tighter hug than usual
Usually very levelheaded and at times a little cocky. but that is instantly overrided by his protective streak for his family and friends
And that's the main steambabies! I hope you like them! 🥺

Baratie: Home to Chefs, Strays, and the Occasional Sword Goblin - Part 4
My apologies on this taking so damn long--a lot has gone down in the not-quite-month it’s taken to update. Some good, some bad, but hey... here’s some more cute af dopamine hits for ya.
First chapter on [tumblr] - [FFN] - [AO3]
Prior chapter on [tumblr] - [FFN] - [AO3]
As the kids all get on without a hitch, their adults acknowledge that there’s a lot more to this than they’d like to admit, not as though that’d change anything. [4590 words]
“So, you honestly had no idea he even existed until he showed up on the Baratie?” Usopp mused. He took a sip of his tea and glanced over at the kids, who were playing nearby. It was well after dinner and he and Zoro were getting the entire story from Sanji and Zeff up in their private residence while the kids were finally occupied after an afternoon and evening of being too attentive for Adult Talk.
“I mean, I won’t doubt it’s my sister’s kid,” Sanji scowled, “but I’m wondering how in the hell this even happened.”
“She slept with someone and didn’t think before or after until it was too late,” Zoro shrugged. Sanji backhanded his shoulder and scoffed.
“It’s not like my sister to not think and calculate out everything to at least five different eventualities,” he scolded. “She must have known Asido was a possibility from the start—before she even took the father to bed—and if he’s here, that means she wanted him… wanted to protect him…”
“What bothers me is that I thought your sperm donor was a medical field nutbag—wouldn’t he have discovered what was going on?” Zeff scoffed.
“Judge knows how to rape a woman until she’s pregnant, then what to do to change the Lineage Factor of her unborn children,” Sanji grimaced. “If it weren’t for the former, it wouldn’t surprise me if the bastard thinks a baby pops out of a woman’s navel and that she pisses from her vagina. My brothers are right up there with him, considering they wouldn’t know what a G-spot is if their unemotional lives depended on it.”
“Only if ‘G’ stands for ‘genocide’,” Usopp cringed. None of the other adults refuted that and he wasn’t entirely certain if it made him feel better or worse. “The offer to sic my wife on them still stands.”
“It’d pay to watch that,” Zoro chortled. “She’d tear them apart in thirty seconds, and that’s as a doctor and not as a hormonal mess. There’d be nothing left for Chopper.”
“…or Kureha, or Law, or Marco, or…”
“Yeah, yeah, we get it,” Sanji scoffed. He looked over at the kids again—the twins were now perched on the taller kids’ shoulders and slap-fighting—and felt a chill run down his spine. “Asido being here changes a lot of shit, doesn’t it?”
“Possibly,” Usopp shrugged. “Kids do have a way of shifting peoples’ priorities. Being a dad is weird as hell, but it’s rewarding when you boil it all down.”
“Usopp, you’re a dad—I’m just the kid’s uncle.”
“Then why’s he with you and not him, eh?” Zeff and Zoro both wisely pretended to take long droughts from their drinks, avoiding being dragged in. “If you had asked me when we first met if in less than ten years we’d be here now—the crew of the Pirate King—then I would have agreed. Had you asked if in the same amount of time I was going to be married to the gal of my dreams, waiting on Kid Number Four, putting aside being the Dread Captain Usopp for making sure that hair gets braided properly and skinned knees and hurt fingers get kisses as well as bandages? I would have laughed in your face, impressed by your lies!” He watched Sanji’s face fall as the blond seemed to go inwards towards his own thoughts. “Hey, Sanji, being a dad is great, even if it ends up being for a short while. At least you have one of the best babysitters in the East here now.”
“Yeah, I’ve been meaning to ask about that,” Zoro scowled. “You mean to tell me that you’re kicking me out? Already? Merry doesn’t have down her katas yet.”
“That’s part of what my wife wants to avoid,” Usopp deadpanned.
“Your wife can say that to my face.”
“You two are both fucking idiots,” Sanji groaned. He pinched the bridge of his nose, hoping that the oncoming headache wasn’t going to be a nasty one.
“Dad…?!” The four men all looked at Merry, who was standing rather still on the other side of the room despite the slap-fight that was still going on above her. “Why does Asido talk funny?”
“No I don’t!” Asido insisted. “You’re all the ones who talk funny!”
“You all talk funny,” Zoro shouted back at the child, not giving Usopp a chance to respond. “You all sound like a bunch of babies!”
“Asshole!” Merry shouted, sticking out her tongue. Zoro laughed, Sanji and Zeff stared, while Usopp immediately snapped into full-form.
“Merry! What did Mom say about grown-up words?!”
“Mom’s not here!”
“Yeah, and she’s still going to find out, and you want to know who’s going to get into trouble? Me! Not Uncle Sanji and his staff, not Mister Zeff, not the moron who taught you that word, but me! I don’t want to get into trouble!”
Merry pouted for a moment, then turned to Asido. “Just so you know: Dad’s a chicken-shit.”
“Merry!”
“It’s true!”
“That doesn’t mean you can always say it!” Usopp let his head fall to the table, where he wallowed in a mire of depression. “My own daughter… betraying me the first chance she gets…”
“At least they all get on,” Zeff mentioned. “When is Kaya due? We can have a sleepover for Asido and the girls, I think, to keep them from getting underfoot.”
“In about four months,” Usopp admitted. “Chopper already told me he was stopping by here first, then coming over to Syrup to stay until the baby’s born like he did with the others.” He paused and lifted his head so he could properly look at Sanji. “How long do you think you’ll have him here?”
“We aren’t talking about that yet,” Sanji said. He glanced over at Zoro, who seemed to be taking the statement in stride. “I think we can renegotiate once the geezer’s closer to being cleared by Chopper.”
“Fine by me,” the swordsman shrugged. “I’m not a fancy tutor, but I think I can keep him occupied.”
“How, I’ll never know,” Sanji deadpanned.
“Hey, don’t knock it,” Usopp said. “When I said he’s great with the girls, I meant it a hundred percent. You don’t have to worry about a thing. The lack of worry is probably part of why Kaya’s pregnant again, to be honest.”
“I think I like you better when you’re lying out your ass,” Zeff quipped. Sanji couldn’t help but snicker, while Zoro saw one of the twins yawn, taking that as his cue.
“Alright you gremlins—time to get ready for bed,” he said as he stood up. Montie and Lea both climbed down from their respective perches and bounced over to Zoro with their arms up. He snatched them both, one in each arm, before glancing over at Asido. “Lead the way, kid; you know where your room is.”
Asido looked at Sanji for permission and got a silent nod. “Y-Yeah. Okay.” He took Merry by the hand and led them out into the corridor. The door clicked shut and Usopp let out a sigh of relief.
“Let me help you clean up,” the long-nosed man said. Sanji tried to swat his hand away from the dishes, but he resisted, successfully able to grab the plates and carted them down after the chef as he brought the rest of the dishes on a tray into the kitchen. There was only a couple of the junior-level chefs left finishing the cleaning, though with their temporary boss there and looking rather irritated, they decided it was time to take their break.
“I did this all the time with the crew; I think I can handle it now,” Sanji said wearily. Usopp simply shook his head and grabbed a towel.
“Uh-huh—I’ll dry.”
“Fine.”
The pair worked in silence for a while, washing and drying in tandem, before Sanji let out a loud, long sigh.
“What the fuck is happening?” he asked, his voice betraying his weariness. “This is ridiculous.”
“Not as much as you’d might think,” Usopp shrugged. He accepted a rinsed plate and wiped it dry, placing it in the stack. “I… I know you and Zoro didn’t part on the best of terms, but…”
“…you should have told me.”
“You would have called it off.”
“I think I’d be within my rights.”
“What happened to having no room to be picky?”
Silence permeated the kitchen eerily.
“Listen: he told me what went down between the two of you.” More silence. “I don’t care about that—never have and never will—but you have to suck it up and move past it. What happens if Luffy comes back next week? Will the both of you still be able to function like you should?”
“If Luffy comes back next week, I’m going to have to tell him I have a kid now.”
“Luffy would kidnap you both if he thought it was the best solution.” Usopp finished the stack of dishes and placed them in the cupboard. “Maybe getting Asido was meant to be… you know… a way to get the two of you to find common ground again.”
“We won’t find common ground,” Sanji muttered. “We will, to a point, but then it will be the same old shit. Bringing your dad would have honestly been a better option.”
“Well, if anything he’ll at least be good for the kid,” Usopp shrugged. “I’m sure of that much.”
“…and why’s that?”
“If he’s good enough to handle my daughters, then he can handle your nephew. Give it a bit, alright? If he’s not working out by the time the girls come back for the sleepover, then we’ll take him back to Syrup to help with the baby.”
“Fine.” He heard the door open and the two junior chefs return from their break. “We’ll talk more about this in the morning.”
“If you say so,” Usopp shrugged. The pair went upstairs, arriving on their floor just as Zoro was quietly closing the door to Asido’s room. “They go down okay?”
“Like a dream.” The swordsman then looked at Sanji, his expression implacable. “Which room is mine again?”
“That one,” he said, pointing at the one directly next to Asido’s. “I’ll label it, if you need me to.”
“Fuck off.” Zoro disappeared behind the door, leaving Usopp to shake his head.
“Just… consider what I said,” the sniper tutted. He went into his room; now Sanji was alone. He pressed his ear to Asido’s door, hearing faint whispers. Opening it a crack, he listened to Asido and Merry think they were talking quietly.
“So it’s just you and Uncle Sanji?” Merry asked.
“Well, and my mom, but she’s not here.”
“Why?”
“I dunno.”
“What about your dad?”
“I think he’s dead—Mom doesn’t talk about him, and Uncle Sanji and Grandpa Zeff haven’t said anything.”
“…dead like Uncle Luffy…?”
“I thought you said Uncle Luffy was just missing.”
“The grown-ups all say he’s missing, but I don’t know. I feel like ‘missing’ is something that people say when they don’t want to tell the truth.” There was a small pause, where Montie let out a loud snore. “Maybe, that’s what we can do when we’re grown-ups.”
“What…?”
“Find out what happened to Uncle Luffy, of course! We can sail the seas like my dad and our aunts and uncles did! See new places and meet new people! And then, we can find Uncle Luffy! Maybe we can even find your dad!”
“What if Uncle Luffy comes back on his own? What if we can’t find anything?”
“We won’t know until we try!”
Sanji’s heart ached as he exhaled heavily and opened the door. The two children gasped and tried to hide under the blankets, though they didn’t fool him. “I thought I heard voices.” He sat on the edge of the bed and watched as the kids both smiled while pretending to sleep. “I guess no one in here needs goodnight kisses?”
“I do!” Asido insisted, immediately bolting upwards.
“I didn’t know you gave goodnight kisses!” Merry gasped at the same time.
“Then both of you lay down nice and try to get some sleep, hmm…?” Both children complied and Sanji gave them each a kiss on the forehead. “Better?”
“Uh-huh,” they both murmured.
“Now go to sleep, little ones,” he said gently. They both closed their eyes and he watched them for a few more minutes, all four children in the bed asleep by the time he walked out the door. It took all the energy he had to drag himself into his room and change into pajamas before flopping down on his bed in defeat.
How was he going to survive this?
-_-_-_-_-_-_-
In his dream, Zoro knew he was drowning.
He was nineteen again, having just challenged Mihawk and lost. After falling into the ocean, all he did was sink deeper, and deeper, and deeper. He looked to his left and saw that Wado Ichimonji had floated out of his hand. It was blurry, the white scabbard and hilt moving farther away.
‘I failed.’
The faint sound of splashing water reached his ears and before he realized it, he was being tugged upwards, towards the surface. Blond hair became an underwater halo, still hiding a piercing eye bluer than both the sea and sky. He didn’t register the fact that it had been two entirely different people hauling him up when these events had been real—in fact, for all he knew…
Waking up, Zoro found that he was not, in fact, nineteen again and drowning. He was still at the Baratie, but in a soft and comfortable bed. A toddler fell off his chest and into his lap as he sat up, giggling all the way.
“Lea, we’ve been through this,” he groaned. “No sitting on Zoro-oji while he’s sleeping.”
“It’s morning!” the girl stated, as though that absolved her.
“Uh-huh. And where’s your sisters? Your dad?”
“I dunno!”
“Well, let’s find them, alright?”
“Okay!”
The girl waited until the green-haired man swung his legs out of bed before she held up her hand, ready to go exploring. She pulled him along directly into the corridor, where there was not a soul to be seen. Something vaguely tickled the back of his brain about the kids being on the end of the corridor, so they started heading in that direction, only for Usopp to scare the bloody hell out of him as a door wildly swung open next to him.
“There you are!” he gasped, relieved. He scooped his daughter up and gave his crewmate a tired look. “I’m gonna miss the help corralling them, that’s for sure.”
“You’re the one who pimped me out to Curls,” Zoro reminded him.
He followed Usopp into the kids’ room to find that it was not a pleasant picture. Although Merry was attempting to instruct Asido in how to braid her hair, both children still in their pajamas and calm, it was Montie who decided that she was not going to wear clothes that day, and was running completely starkers around the room. Lea wiggled free from Usopp’s grasp and landed on the floor with a thud, and joined her twin in her reign of terror.
“Remember this when Kaya says something about how it’s good Merry’s no longer doing katas,” Zoro grumbled. He snatched the naked, wriggling toddler mid-stride, eventually holding her aloft by the ankles as he searched one-handed through their overnight bag. “You’re wearing clothes today, you little gremlin, whether you like it or not.”
“Zoro-oji mean!”
“Zoro-oji knows from experience that you need to wear clothes, or you’ll freeze and then die and then nothing will ever get done.” He then wrestled her into some clothes, which was admittedly not as difficult as it could have been, holding her up by the armpits once he was done. She was in a little dress, yet her hair was a giant mass of waves as she kicked her feet in desperation. “Are we doing a braid today?”
“I want all braids! Like Daddy!”
“Not until you learn how to sit still, young lady,” Usopp chided. He was already running a brush through Lea’s hair, the girl sitting calmly as her father sat crosslegged on the floor with her in his lap. “How are you two doing over there? Merry? Asido?”
“He’s not very good,” Merry said plainly. Asido’s face turned red.
“I don’t have long hair to do this with!” he defended. “Mom doesn’t have long hair either!”
“Your mom’s hair also is more like Montie’s than like Merry’s, so it behaves different in braids,” Zoro said idly. He held Montie in place with his legs and he brushed through her hair, smoothing it out before quickly putting it into a plait down her back. Once the ribbon was tied, she broke free, leaving the swordsman to beckon the eldest children over. “Come on—let a pro show you how it’s done.”
The two four-year-olds scrambled over to Zoro and Merry plopped herself directly in his lap, with Asido relinquishing the brush. Zoro then undid the bits of braid that the boy already did, his larger hands working quick to untangle the strands. Asido watched intently, making their adult chuckle.
“You’re very interested in this for someone who never has to do it,” he noted, voice gentle. Asido shrugged.
“It’s… different.”
“It is.” He glanced over at Usopp, who had an eyebrow raised. “Is that the only reason?”
“No—we heard you and the other adults talking about how we’re cousins now, and we’re gonna have a sleepover,” the boy said. “That means Merry would come over again, and then I can help her get ready, ‘cause she says her hair’s hard to do by herself.”
“It’s worse when your hands are little, yeah, but it’s not bad. I’ll still be here to help, so you won’t have to worry.”
“Zoro-oji’s almost as good as Mom and Dad!” Merry beamed.
“Only because I helped your dad so much when we were sailing together, right Usopp?” The other adult in the room shuddered as he put Lea’s hair in small puffs.
“Sanji and Robin were the best—you tugged too much.”
“Got all my practice in on you so now I’m excellent,” Zoro bragged.
“Yeah, yeah; you and your sausage-fingers.”
“Fuck off.” Usopp shot Zoro a glare and he chuckled. “You’re just trying to take advantage of the facts I’m still half asleep and swordless.”
“Maybe I should be glad I’m dumping you—be Sanji’s problem now.”
“You make me sound like an unwanted animal.” Merry and Asido both giggled. “See if I babysit for you again.”
“Uh-huh—one look at their pouts and you’re eating your words.”
Zoro did not respond to that, instead continuing to untangle Merry’s hair and divide it in half so he could give her twin braids. Once her hair was in place, he patted the top of her head and she gave him a hug before getting her clothes out of their bag. With hair done, Usopp and Zoro both grabbed a twin and left the older two to finish getting ready, each hauling their respective small child to Zeff’s room, where the elderly chef was already reading the paper as he sat at the table.
“There goes my peace and quiet,” he grumbled. He watched as they both sat the toddlers on their booster-seat-aided chairs, hoping they would stay still. “Sure you want to give the moss up?”
“If I come back with Zoro, after leaving while promising I was dropping Zoro off, I might not be allowed back into the house,” Usopp deadpanned. He accepted part of the newspaper and gave a warning glare to Lea, who was threatening to slide out of her chair. Once the girl straightened, he looked at the photo that dominated the page: Reiju and her new husband. “You want to know who’s probably having a field day with this?”
“I give up.”
“No idea.”
“Shakky.” Zoro stared emptily at him and he sighed. “You know? Ray’s wife? Bar owner? On Sabaody? The Queen of Information? You know she had Sanji figured out with one look.”
“That viper wouldn’t know good intel if it bit her on the tit,” Zeff bristled, fluffing out his portion of the paper in a huff. Usopp and Zoro both looked at him in shock.
“Do we even want to know?” Usopp cringed.
“Do we even want to know what?” They all looked over towards the door and thank fuck it was Sanji with breakfast. Merry and Asido ran in after him, rushing to their seats before the blond set the serving tray down.
“Zeff knows Shakky and doesn’t like that he does,” Zoro clarified. Sanji stared at his foster father and cringed.
“Okay, I really don’t want to know,” the blond shivered. He started doling out breakfasts—Thousand Sunny lion-face pancakes for the kids and the adults getting scrambled eggs mixed with all manner of cheese, veggies, and bacon, with a side of potatoes. He caught the photo on Usopp’s page of the paper before the other man folded it inwards and passed it back to Zeff. “Related to that, I take it?”
“Related to what?” Asido asked. “Who is Shakky? And Ray?”
“Dad says they’re kinda like Uncle Luffy’s grandparents, but I’ve never met Uncle Luffy, so I’ve never asked him,” Merry said.
“Who is Uncle Luffy anyhow? All I know is that he’s not here, but you talk like he should be.”
“Uncle Luffy is our captain,” Zoro stated. The other adults were quiet, letting Zoro take the lead. “Uncle Sanji, Uncle Usopp, and I all sailed with him and the rest of the crew well before you were born. He has a habit of disappearing.”
“When was the last time someone saw him?”
“At Uncle Usopp and Aunt Kaya’s wedding, before Merry was born.” He shoveled some food in his mouth and chewed, thinking. “That’s actually the last time we saw a lot of people.”
“Don’t remind me—I’m still getting grief from the villagers,” Usopp sighed.
“No one likes Granpappy,” Merry whispered loudly to Asido.
“Merry,” her father warned. “Be nice.”
“It’s true!”
“True isn’t always nice.”
“…but it’s true…”
“No talking about Granpappy at the table, alright?” Usopp knew it was more of an order, not a suggestion, but he also had to be firm with her. “We actually want you to be allowed back for that sleepover, and you won’t be if you don’t behave.”
“Fine,” the girl sighed dramatically before popping a bit of fruit into her mouth. Zeff tried not to laugh as he drank some of his coffee, giving Usopp a knowing look.
“Your eldest has got some spirit—reminds me of the eggplant when he was little,” he chuckled. “Watch out for that one.”
“That sounds like something I did not want to hear,” Usopp deadpanned. “Come on girls, hurry up or you won’t get to play some more before we head out.”
At that, all four children began to eat quickly, rushing out soon as their plates were cleared. Their adults all seemed to let out a collective sigh of not only relief, but of dread as well.
“You sure you want them back?” Usopp wondered. “There’s no shame in backing out.”
“A kid needs friends his own age or they’ll end up like this maladjusted shit,” Zeff said, gesturing at Sanji.
“I’m picking your fucking care home this afternoon, old man.”
“Considering how you’re handling this crisis, I’m willing to hedge my bets.”
Usopp and Zoro both avoided laughing as the two chefs continued sniping at one another, knowing that any amount of vitriol that passed between them was leagues weaker than whatever the fuck it was that kept them together. If there were any two that expressed their familial love with such levels of sarcasm and spite, it was Sanji and Zeff, and it wasn’t like the other two were going to point any of it out.
The rest of breakfast passed as such—it wasn’t as though things were going to change any time soon.
-_-_-_-_-_-_-
Merry was adamant that she didn’t want to leave her new cousin and super-best-friend. She was so adamant, in fact, that she decided to lay down on the back deck of the Baratie, refusing to move as her father loaded her sisters into their ship. Asido crouched down next to her, poking her shoulder, while Zoro and Sanji were helping secure the twins and pack their bentos, respectively.
“Been a while since she’s thrown a fit like that,” Zoro noted. He made sure that Montie’s backpack leash was securely fastened to the mast and let the toddler go, the child bouncing excitedly at the prospect of going home to see her mother. “Does the sprout do things like that?”
“Honestly? I haven’t had him long enough to know for sure.” Sanji watched the scene play out, wondering what his heart would do if his nephew were ever the one in Merry’s position. “I sure hope I don’t fuck this up.”
“Relax,” Usopp assured. “The kid’s in great hands. By the time the girls come back, you’ll have the hang of this, won’t he Zoro?”
“He’s as pissy as the geezer, so something tells me he’ll be fine,” the green-haired man replied. Sanji threw him an irritated glare and he laughed. “Hey, it’s why I’m here, right? In case shit goes down?”
“You wish.” Sanji then glanced towards the two children remaining on the deck and sighed. “I’ll get her.” He hopped onto the deck and walked over to the four-year-olds, his nephew looking up at him in concern.
“Is she okay?”
“She will be; now up you go.” Sanji tried to pick the girl up, but she resisted. “Whoa, whoa, whoa… you’re acting like I want to throw you overboard in a storm.”
“I wanna stay with Asido,” Merry pouted. “It’s fun having someone my size around.”
“You’ll be back to play before you realize it,” Sanji reminded her. She whimpered as she clung to Asido, giving him a tight hug. The boy did not really know how to respond and looked to his uncle for guidance. After watching the man nod, Asido hugged back, which seemed to placate Merry. “Now come on; time to go.”
“Okay…” Merry walked hand-in-hand with Asido as the three went over to the ship. Now on the deck, Zoro hefted her up and passed her to Usopp, who balanced her on his hip.
“Promise you’ll behave?” Zoro asked. Merry nodded with a sniffle. “Good girl.”
“Have a bunch of fun stories for our sleepover!” Asido insisted. Sanji picked him up and placed him on his shoulders, putting the children at nearly eye-level. The kids both reached for each other, locking their pinkies in a promise.
“I will if you will!” Merry replied. Usopp then pulled her back and placed her down on the deck.
“Time to go back to Mom. Go ahead and wave bye while I’m busy, okay?”
Taking her job seriously, Merry watched as her father let the sail unfurl and began to pull out of the dock. She waved as they sailed away, with Sanji, Asido, and Zoro doing the same from their spot. Once the small ship was out of sight, the two men looked at one another and frowned.
“Let’s get this over with, I guess,” Sanji scowled. Zoro flipped him the middle finger—yeah, just like old times.

Brulee just was born, Katakuri and PerosPero were the first ones who came to see their new sibling. Katakuri instantly fell in love with his little sister and couldn't help but to gush over her cuteness. PerosPero did the same, although on a more subtle way.
Katakuri: Just look at her, so adorable!
PerosPero: Indeed, she is really precious *tickles chin gently*
Katakuri: Oi Oi Oi, it`s your big bro, Kata-nii, Bru-Bru-Chan look at me!
PerosPero: Pfff stop it brother, you sound ridiculous.
Brulee starts to smile and waves her tiny arms at Katakuri which makes Peros raise a brow in surprise.
Katakuri: You like your bro bro better, right? *talks in baby talk*
PerosPero: ...stop it Katakuri, you shouldn't pressure her in liking you. Besides, she is far too young to have favorites...*crosses arms*
Katakuri: u jelly? *grins cheekily*
PerosPero gave his younger brother a hard nudge on his shoulder, glaring at him.
PerosPero: Stop it right there, i dare you
Brulee starts to giggle with glee, stretching out her arms at her two brothers. Katakuri took the chance and lifted her up, bouncing her slightly.
Katakuri: You`re a cutie, never forget that, Brulee...And i always will protect you, no matter what *he gently nuzzled her forehead, giving her a little kiss*
The baby cooed back at him, reaching up with one tiny little hand, grabbing Katakuris finger, squeezing it softly.
PerosPero: You hold her wrong, give her to me
Katakuri: *turns away from Peros* Nope she stays with me now, right Bru-chan? Heheheh
Compote: He really seems to like her
PerosPero: Just wait until she gets older, than i am going to be her favorite *pouts*
Compote:*shakes head*

AU Facts - re-post
I was informed it's hard to get the first one to load so I don't know what's going on but I'll put it on here again just in case
Sorry guys
My Alternate Universe follows a similar timeline to the 2014/16 movies but unlike that it differs in many ways, the turtles are a bit older and differ in age –this is due to having to replace subjects due to one or all passing from not being able to survive the shots they were given, work side by side with the cops after the Krangg invasion, they have a baby sister who they not only saved but was raised alongside them by Master Splinter
Before anyone points it out the AU does have several different story timelines it follows – Raven was saved by Raph in one having found her alone in the sewers, in another he snuck up to the surface without permission and stumbled across the scene where two people were being harassed by the Foot in the end the little girl watches the men murder her mother as the young turtle tries to stop it… then there is one where the turtles never find the little girl and instead she grows up on the streets where she’s homeless and hunted by not only the Foot but also the Purple Dragons, in this timeline Raven saves Raphael from freezing to death after he’s hurt in a fight
I do tend to write poly relationships/one on one relationships
The OC Raven was originally from a book I was writing back in High School – in it she is a mutant who can absorb abilities (Like Rouge only the ability becomes hers making her dangerous to everyone around her) as a child she absorbed her guardian angel and the she fox who killed her making her the embodiment of something similar to the ying yang – beautifully innocent yet deadly, after that she is forced to carry a demon within her that tends to take over from time to time, so I did mutate her in one of my series where Sacks scientist actually force fox DNA into her with the mutagen and since in the AU the teenager has the DNA of a small species of turtle it mixes bad becoming unstable and creates a monster she struggles to control (Same as in the book)
Enemies include:  Shredder and the Foot clan, General Krangg, Hun and the Purple Dragon’s
The turtles have several allies other than April O’Neal, Vern, and Casey Jones, this world also includes Leatherhead who lives off in a substation close to where their original lair existed down by the docks (So far they have had four homes in their lives), they also have a few other human allies which includes a blind man that runs a thrift store with his wife and daughter where the family get most of their newer cloths Raven fixes for them, a girl who works at a pizza shop and Chinese restaurant that coexist in the same building who gives them the leftovers they are going to throw out, and a few homeless people who stay near where their bridge exit – not including the NYPD
Leatherhead met the turtles when they rescued him from a lab the Foot were operating out of, the massive croc has a uncontrollable rage point that erupts without warning and much like the turtles he doesn’t trust humans, they found him a home where he could be safe and no human’s would be able to get near his home on the other side of the abandoned tunnels never thinking a human would actually go there willingly – also forgetting a certain teenage girl happened to go hang out in those tunnels from time to time
The first time Raven runs into the croc she is wondering around and steps into his lair without knowing she was in danger
Giving she’s never feared her family she doesn’t move a muscle when what she originally thought was Raphael turned out to be a giant mutant crocodile man, she attempts to calm him before he attacks her - she gets hurt trying to outrun him knowing the sewers far better than him she slips away by taking a tunnel only to slam right into the mutant once again just as one of her brother’s comes to rescue her having heard the screams
The turtles had mentioned they had a little sister but had never thought the two would meet but after she had apologized for trespassing in his home the two somehow became the best of friends
Leatherhead having been raised in the labs is incredibly smart and enjoys spending time in Donatello’s lab while visiting his friends if he’s not hanging out with Mikey or being spoiled by Raven who makes him tons of food while he is there
Although the croc his bigger then the turtles he his only a few years older then the teen girl
The first lair was down a few miles from the docks where the turtles and Splinter lived until they were old enough to move without the rat having to carry them, the second lair (Lair we see in the first movie) was destroyed by the foot and Shredder, the third was a station that was long forgotten where they stayed for a year before finding their current home where they have been for five years
This Lair is massive having three levels underground and an above ground Garage where they keep their vehicles so they don’t disturb their father while working on them or heading out late at night.
The main parts of the lair are all in one large room decorated like an underground amusement park equipped with a water slide with smaller rooms built up off to the sides including the huge kitchen, a dojo, a weight room, the lab and needle room reside off to the back where they have a TV room and a rear exit, Splinter’s garden room that connects to his bedroom, and a small bathroom right under the stairs.
Each of the turtles have their own room set up the way they like upstairs of the home overlooking the den and dining area, a separate set of stairs goes to an underground area where there is a pool and basking area for hot summer days and showers in a separate area set up like a locker room
The ages of the turtles vary depending on when I’m writing so per usual I try to write them when they were teens but most storied are going in their early twenties. Ages for the turtles range in stories from 10, 12, 15, (18 – 26 ç the most) and as always Leo is oldest followed by Raph, then Donnie, and Mikey is the baby of the brothers
  Leonardo – The oldest
Leonardo was the only baby turtle from the original first four to survive the mutagen shots where as his sisters from the clutch never hatched
As a toddler this sweet boy clung to Splinter just as much as his baby brother and was the first to show his true personality
The blue banded ninja is the same loveable yet anal older brother we all adore, but he is much stricter than most people are used too and tends to sound extremely cold even if he doesn’t mean too at times/he can come off as a jerk which he tries to avoid.
As the oldest and the leader of the clan he carried a lot on his shoulders even if his younger siblings try to help him he’s not too keen on letting them
He was the first of his brother’s to be allowed to go with Splinter on junk runs since he was very obedient to his father’s orders even if he had a small tendency to goof off from time to time
He tends to argue with Raphael over everything from why he’s leader to why the hotheaded turtle can’t go out to the surface most days, he leads the team in practice and training daily, spends a good portion of his days training, improving his katas, and meditating
He tries to loosen up from time to time so he’s not always the serious turtle that constantly has a perpetual stick up his ass, on those days he plays video games with Mikey or works out with Raph getting into competitions with his brother that he tends to lose at, sometimes if Donnie has a lot on his plate he will go and help with smaller projects
Leo can’t cook even though he tries to much to his siblings dismay, he is skilled in sewing, loves to read and tends to try new things to see if he likes them every other month
  Raphael – Second oldest
Raphael was the only surviving hatchling from the next clutch of eggs due to the others fell ill and died within the first two months due to poor diets, he was left in his tank alone and fell ill of a broken heart shortly after his brothers and sister died, looking as if he would pass too April O’Neal placed him in with the older baby turtle hoping he would be comforted if he did perish – instead Raphael got better and when he took to Leonardo the scientist kept him in the tank to be sure he wouldn’t fall sick again.
Do to the trauma of losing his siblings early on the turtle became protective of Leo, Donnie, and Mikey once they were in the tank not allowing anyone except April and her father to pick them up
As a rambunctious toddler Raphael was the more curious wonderer so Splinter had to find a playpen to keep him and Donnie in so they didn’t run off until he found a heating lamp then the rowdy tot was never far from it always basking if he wasn’t playing
As the biggest turtle he comes off as intimidating and has the temper and attitude to back it up but around his family he is more laid back. As the second oldest he butts heads with his brothers – mostly Leonardo several times a day due to they are both alphas and only a few months apart in age – but it’s more to just keep the leader on his toes then to be an ass
Raphael spends a good portion of his day lifting his weights, breaking his punching bag, making repairs around the lair, working in the garage, or wondering around the sewers if he’s not in his room or screwing with Leo
Raphael is actually the one who saved Raven when he was only ten bringing her home and caring for the girl while she was weak
The red masked turtle is quite the handy man so it takes a lot off what Don has to do in the lair when it comes to furniture being broken or having to repair pipes other than the electronics from time to time, he also enjoys working in the garage on his motorcycle when he needs some alone time… this tends to happen more than ever when you have three brothers that piss you off on a regular bases
At night if the brother’s don’t go out for patrol or have an easy night he sneaks out to meet Casey to ride bikes and patrol the city
And yes because I’m a sucker for it he does dress up as Nightwatcher without his family knowing to go out and fight crime, I had to give the hothead a motorcycle for him to ride but in actuality he had 2-3 he works on
He tries to not show it but he’s very protective of his family and cares for his brothers a lot , especially his two younger siblings, and as mean and off putting as he tried to come off he’s still a giant teddy bear with a really big heart that comforts the others when needed
Raphael loves knitting, carving little wooden figures, and cooking. He has his own play system in his room with his own TV but Mikey doesn’t mind him playing him on the one in the den if he’s not pumping weights
  Donatello – Third Oldest
Donnie was actually the only egg to be brought in for the next test probably because it was the only one they could find so late in the season, he was perfectly healthy to their surprise.
When placed in the tank with Leo and Raph he didn’t take to them right away tending to stay far away from the two other males who were inseparable but given time Raph wouldn’t leave him alone and started dragging him around the cage by his carapace when he would retract into his shell to hide from them taking him to the food where the other two stayed sitting there with the turtle until he came out to eat, afterwards the third turtle was never far from the others
Even at these ages he showed higher than normal intelligence able to find ways to escape their tanks
By the time he was a toddler he was already interested in things having created their first toy from scrap parts until they had a car that drove around the home on its own it acted at a motivation in getting his baby brother to crawl as he chased it
Our sweet purple banded genius is still a genius so I didn’t change him by much
Donnie spends every waking hour in his lab if he’s not training, having to fix the security systems that surround their liar, or repairing the things his brothers break every other day, he also has three areas inside their home that belong to him
The Lab, his computer station, and his room
He’s a coffee addict so Leonardo and Master Splinter have set a limit on his caffeine intake although being Donnie he has his own coffee pot hidden in the lab so he still drinks more then he’s supposed to, his siblings constantly have to pull him from the lab to eat if they don’t just bring his food to him otherwise he would forget completely
The genius and his family built onto their home over the years so because of that each of the turtles now have their own rooms and a portion of the lair that belongs to them separately
Donatello created the lair from top to bottom making all their electronics, appliances, ect. So he tends to joke when Leo tries to boss him around
  Michelangelo – Youngest
Mikey sadly was the only egg in his clutch of ten to survive but was born sick due to he had a twin that had died in the egg while inside with him, because he was the only egg to survive in over a year they cared for him round the clock until he was well enough to be placed in the tank with the other three turtles even though he was too small to fend for himself but never had too.
It was instant that the other three became protective of the tiny turtle caring for him
Because he was so tiny he liked to ride around on his brother’s shells while they wondered around the tank of hide under them while they were standing
The scientist had a hard time getting the smallest turtle away from his brothers since they were always huddled around him, Raphael and Leonardo brought the youngest two plenty of food before they would eat while Donatello would lie beside him protectively until the older two were back from their bowl
It was because of how territorial the older three were that they were all placed in separate tanks that sat side by side in a square so they could all see one another allowed to be in the same tank while April was in the lab playing with them
Michelangelo is our little prankster/skater boy
This loveable little turtle is just as we have always seen him - he can be the biggest pain in Raphael’s butt wreaking Donnie’s lab like a tornado joking off in the dojo while Leo’s trying to continue training but still somehow being that innocent angel in his father’s eyes all in the same ten minutes
Because of how small he was when he hatched Mikey is smaller than his brothers – this is more of his size then age but it makes it easy to see he’s the baby brother in all aspects
When he’s not messing with his brothers or getting one somebody’s nerves Mikey spends a good portion of his time either playing video games, reading his comics, or tagging the lair with his art while nobody’s paying him any mind – he has even done a wall in each of his siblings rooms in honor of something he loves about them making a memorial for each room
When it comes that time of year the orange banded turtle is the one to start the parties, planning the biggest bashes with the help of their sister they never fail to impress weather it’s a birthday party of Christmas
Mikey has the potential to be better than his older brothers, he’s much faster, skilled, and the shortness comes in handy he’s too laid back to really try
  Raven – the baby
She’s a curvy yet slim beauty with pale porcelain skin, long black curly locks she wears in a bun of ponytail at all times, and emerald green eyes, she’s only 5’6 so she’s constantly teased for being short by her brothers, the young girl hasn’t always been with the mutant family
She was abandoned in the sewers when she was very young and somehow survived on her own for months before stumbling upon Raphael while he was out blowing off steam after a fight with Leonardo, she followed the turtle from a distance curious about him until he realizes she’s there. She hides in a tunnel when he turns but doesn’t try to run from him when he came to investigate only to find a sick and thin form
He rushes her to Donatello who had recently started learning everything he can from several medical books after finishing the physics and the thesaurus collections Master Splinter has found him while scavenging threw a junk yard or walking past a dumpster. She’s really sick and they all expect her to never make it but a few days later she’s just as active as any normal child would even though she’s still ill
It was guessed Raph had to have been the only person she had seen in a long time but for a child she looks at them as if they are no different from the tiny human girl and the longer they are around the child the more they learn about the strange child their brother brought home
At first glance the girl seems like any normal kid – curious about everything she sees and gets into, she loves to watch them while they play games or sits close by while they are watching movies, after a while she goes to them sitting in their laps as they read or watch cartoons… Then come the day they find she is far from normal
Raven hates enclosed or tiny spaces unless she finds one she likes, has major abandonment issues, and more surprising to the family the girl hates humans more than her fear of snakes
By the age of five Splinter lets her join in with the turtles in their practices but doesn’t start fully training her until she is twelve when he comes home from a walk to sees her playing with a broom stick like it was a bo or a sword sparring with her brothers as they practice their team attacks, he stays back watching the girl holding her own against the turtles who at that time were teenagers – seeing the potential she has he started her training pushing her just as hard as he does his sons
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
v  The turtles don’t wear their full gear while relaxing in the lair – just pants and masks if it’s an off day – hoodies that are customized to fit over their shells during winter
v  As they get older they are not required to train but do it anyways now that Leo has started leading the training practices while their father watches from his seat to keep an eye on the teen girl
v  Splinter lived in the lab the turtles and him were created for three years before being freed into the sewers
v  All of them have different eye and skin colors:
~ Leo has some of the deepest icy sky blue eyes and leaf green skin
~ Raph has golden orbs with emerald green skin
~ Donnie has honey brown eyes and olive green flesh
~ Mikey has the prettiest baby blues and a light sea green coloring to his skin
v  Like the turtle’s Raven is skilled in several things – having taught herself to cook and bake, loves to sew and after years of practice became good enough to repair and make clothes for her family, does most of the cleaning in the lair just out of boredom… learned mechanics and how to work on cars by watching Donnie and Raph
v  Leonardo and Raphael are both 26 but a few months apart in age, Donnie is six months younger then Raph (25-26 depending on the time of the year), Mikey is a year younger than his three older brothers (24-25)
v  None of the turtles are actual blood siblings
v  Raphael even though he cares for the girl deeply starts to push her away a few years after she comes to live with them fearing he will hurt her if he lets her too close but slowly she breaks his walls down considering him her best friend even though he acts like he hates her
v  The guys have rap battles at random to roast each other
v  Donatello was practically blind so his brothers had to lead him around until he figured out where everything was in their home until he was eight when Splinter was able find him some glasses in the garbage but as he got older the frames were smashed several times so he found a way to make his own to his prescription and now just orders them when he needs a new pair
v  Splinter started teaching the little girl ninjitsu at the age of 5 – she may be years behind her older siblings but the rat saw fit that she start earlier then his sons   (Boys started when they were 8)
v  3 nights out of the week are family nights so they have dinner together usually a homemade meal before either watching movies or playing games together, very rare is when Splinter is out of the lair do the siblings head to the surface to hang out for fun
v  Mikey clings to Raphael more than his other brothers
v  The teen gets several smaller jobs to help support the family once she learns to deal with her deep set fear of the humans bringing in more money for their needs, she is more mature than girls her own age and can sometimes act more like a mom rather than the youngest sibling
v  Michelangelo having painted every room in the lair goes out to the tunnels around the home to work on his art, or takes off to Leatherheads part of the tunnels to get some peace and quiet from his brothers
v  Leonardo’s love for Japanese culture was so intense he not only learned to speak the language he uses it almost as much as he does English becoming fluent by the age of thirteen, his room is decorated with art and writings from the country his brother’s managed to get over the internet
v  On junkyard runs Raphael hangs back watching for danger while guarding Don’s shell before making his way to the front to feed the guard dogs playing with them and the puppies while his brothers look for things for their home so he can see the night security building and warn them if he leaves
v  Donatello carried two jobs at the age of fifteen as not only a computer technician but also as a customer service assistant for people having trouble with their systems
v  When younger they had to teach the girl several things – at the age of four even with very little physical contact with people of any kind the girl had a full vocabulary and to an extent could read but her way of speaking was confusing
v  She was fascinated with  horror films of any kind that even the turtles couldn’t watch
v  Birthdays were never really celebrated until they had a home but each of the turtles picked a day they wanted to celebrate their birthdays on: Leo picked February 13, Raphael May 11, Donnie picked November 20, and Mikey being the goof he is picked October 31. Raven’s real birthday actually falls the day after Raphael’s on May 12 but she always forgets it going all out for her brothers – usually they remind her
v  Mikey and Raph takes shifts cooking with the teen during the week
v  Like Donnie, Raven is a coffee addict
v  Raphael actually has a good voice and when younger used to sing to his brothers – now you have to tempt it out of him when he’s either in a really good mood or drunk
v  They choose nights when they go solo
v  Patrols are never in groups unless it’s a mission, they split into teams to patrol parts of the city on more difficult nights but on the easy nights they divide the city into four parts each turtle taking a portion
v  They take turns being teamed up with their human sister
v  Splinter has a soft spot of animals and tends to be unable to say no when one of his children bring home a stray pet – he loves Mikey’s kitten
v  The first time one of them (Donatello) got hurt in front of her during training the little girl had whimpered running to the turtle’s side looking the wound over before trying to clean the wound herself – Mikey practically ran screaming in horror to get their father as the little girl licked the wound to stop the blood… (It’s gross but she grew up without proper role models so seeing animals cleaning wounds on the streets stuck with her)
v  Mikey was the one to figure out the child they took in was smart when she accidentally hacked into Donatello’s computer to get the parental lock off the youngest turtles game system
v  Donnie buys groceries by using the online orders having them delivered to the building just over the lair where Raven or Casey poses as the owners of a small business and the teen travels to the store only for small items
v  None of the mutants knew the girl was good with electronics until she was playing with her computer he had made her and managed to unlock Don’s system playing one of his games with him before they even knew she was doing so
v  Raphael’s favorite treat is brownies
v  Raven being raised alongside the guys had to learn not only how to fight and protect herself she was taught how to keep up with them being slightly slower, jump over areas no human could manage, and hide in an instant before she was allowed out of the sewers with them so they played games to prepare her for things that may happen on the surface
v  The very first time they ever took the girl to the surface was with her brother’s for a junkyard run that was supposed to be an easy night; it turned into a fight for their lives. The turtles finally seeing that the innocent kid had a much darker side when they were in trouble. She fought several men hand to hand with ease before ultimately killing two Foot soldiers before she even realized she had done so
v  The guys take great joy in teasing their baby sister for being so small or pushing her into doing things they would have gotten in trouble for – Splinter never disciplines her for them if his sons were involved
v  Raphael looks to Leo for advice when he really needs it even though they fight alot
v  Although she doesn’t get sent in there a lot the teen’s punishment in the Ha’shi is to stand/balance on a bamboo pole with one foot while doing anything from stitching clothes or reading her textbooks to force the girl to focus her mind
v  Raphael and Leonardo are usually the ones the teenager is teamed up with being the most protective of the girl, the other reason is nether of the younger turtles keep that good of an eye trusting her to keep with them. Donnie’s mind is always wondering and Mikey get distracted
v  Raven having been told to stay away from Leatherheads place without one of her brothers with her fearing their friend could hurt her if he doesn’t recognize her never listens to them, she tends to believe the mutant would never hurt her on purpose and always gives him the benefit of doubt. Somehow the two are the best of friends even though she risk her life every time she steps foot into his home
v  The kanji carved into Raphael’s shoulder is a constant reminder to watch his temper after flying into a rage in the middle of a sparring session with Leo in which Leo caught him with his sword accident cutting his brother over his lip unable to dodge fast enough when Raph attacked raking  the longest prong across his brother’s eye almost taking it out leaving the scar over Leo’s eye once it healed, after being sure his big brother would be okay he ran to his room and cut the symbol into his flesh without his father knowing until he fell ill when it got infected
v  Raven  although with her fears of human’s warmed up to April within hours of them meeting due to the young reporter found the girl’s weakness (Coffee)but Raven took well over a year to warm up to Casey never getting to close to the man while he was conscious still not fully trusting him but after seeing her brother’s screwing with the man for fun she makes an effort to sneak attack him the moment he gets to the lair finding it funny when Mikey shouts out the score
v  Mikey has a small fluffy white, orange, and gray kitten he named sweetie after he rescued the poor baby from the tunnels without his brothers knowing hiding the sweet little fur ball in his room until the morning it got out and attacked Leo’s leg while he was meditating – it is never to be spoke of since Leonardo never heard the tint angel playing beside him screaming just before he fell off his meditation perch just as Raphael finished his workout causing him to be mocked for weeks afterwards – and due to it being able to get the best of the blue banded turtle the kitten is practically worshiped by the others
v  With enough begging from the young girl each of the turtles have been forced to have a peel off face mask at least once in their lives – Mikey’s the only one who willingly gets one every week when April comes over to do one on the girl
v  Leo tells the lamest jokes but yet there are still funny
v  Raphael had a Pitbull puppy when he was a kid but had to rehome her due to she didn’t like Donnie walking through the lair late at night
v  When the weather gets bad or the tunnels are flooded around their home the teen makes the family pot roast stew and small sweet treats to cheer up her cabin fever ridden siblings always making plenty so they have tons of extras – as soon as the guys are busy she dishes up a few servings into several tuber wear bowls making sure they will survive the journey before slipping out of the home. Due to where he lives it’s hard for him to get out and find food once the seasons grow cold so the family tends to bring him groceries at least twice a month. Making her way through the overflowing tunnels to his home to be sure he’s fed – she’s sure to check and watch her back while wading through the deep water just in case he’s out finding the croc is always grateful for her caring thoughts and food
v  They created a personal holiday where one day out of the year Mikey can’t pull pranks or be annoying – they also have on the same day where everyone has to prank one another and the loser actually does chores for a few months  by themselves and Mikey usually loses
v  When hurt of upset the teen shuts down – she never shows weakness and rarely cries in front of the family
v  Being older brother’s each of the guys taught the human girl something  personally even though she learned a lot by just watching them:  Leonardo helps her one on one in the dojo to achieve her lessons faster if she’s having trouble while also teaching her to speak several different languages so if the need arises she can pull off any disguise and throw off enemies, Raphael even though told not to by their Master taught the girl to drive not only the garbage truck but to also operate a motorcycle before she was fifteen got in trouble then took to teaching her several fighting skills, Donnie being the educated turtle saw the curiosity the girl at a very young age and started teaching her several things from medical training so if he’s not around she could deal with injuries of all severities to honing her hacking skills until she is just as good as him, Michelangelo taught the girl how to swim and draw finding a hidden talent she possessed for awesome anime characters
v  Even though the teen plays stupid around others she’s just as smart as her older brothers and acts as though she’s older then the turtles
v  Raphael spends the most time next to Leonardo in the Ha’shi – Mikey is in close third whereas Donnie rarely gets sent into the room unless he’s in the middle of something with his brothers
v  To stop Donatello from licking the icing off their pop tarts the young woman buys the genius coffee flavored so he will eat the entire thing practically abolishing his nasty habit but his brother’s still hide their breakfast items
v  Raph has several tattoos including one for each of his family members
v  The guys tend to go into a hibernated like state during the winter making it harder to wake them
v  Michelangelo, Donatello, and Leonardo get sick at least two times a year whereas Raphael is rarely ever sick but it was always easy to tell when they weren’t feeling well.
~ Mikey would act like he was completely helpless and whoever was taking care of him would practically have to do everything for him – he turns into a child that constantly needs cuddles.
~ Donatello was usually always sick since it seemed like his immune system was slightly weaker than the others, so he locks his self in the lab going over everything he could find on the internet thinking he had something that was worse than just a cold – in the end where he would only be down for a day or two it’s dragged out into a week-long ordeal.
~ Leonardo basically sleeps for hours as if Donnie would have drugged him; the oldest turtle becomes completely unresponsive to the world easily knocked out cold from the smallest illness so nothing disturbs him no matter how loud Mikey tries to be
~ Raphael, when he does manage to come down with something turns into that giant teddy bear he is on the inside becoming strangely affectionate and needy to any form of comfort the other’s will give him – so when he’s sick he curls up on the couch and nuzzles up to anyone that gets too close, usually it’s the girl who’s trying to take care of him
v  Donnie having gotten tired of hearing the unpleased opinions of his brother’s about his eating habits and the unnecessary energy it takes to leaving the lab for drinks or food found and fixed up a refrigerator he keeps stocked with Soda’s and snacks
v  Raphael and Mikey are the ones who do tattoos for the brothers
v  Once a year the family goes up to the cabin in the mountains for a few weeks – two months at the most to train, recover, relax before heading back home
v  Leo makes his own candles and takes great joy in making them for his Master
v  Mikey although he can be messy is very organized, he likes to collect things – comics, action figures, manga, anime, you name it he likes it and has a place for everything in his room. So it may be messy but when he feels like it his room can be organized almost just as well as Leo’s
v  Raphael actually had the teen help him make his Nightwatcher uniform without her ever knowing making her think it was for a Halloween party they were having
v  Raven is fifteen when she starts to have nightmares and flashbacks remembering a life she never knew she had, remembering her mother, the details that wound her up in the sewers, faces and voices she doesn’t know seem so familiar but never tells her family
v  Raven had been going out with the turtles for three years when her true bloodline was revealed to them, during a battle with the Foot Raven gets cornered by Shredder away from her family but just as the man is going to kill her he stops to look her over almost in shock before ordering his men to release her. he apologized for their rudeness referring to her as princess before he tells her of a life she doesn’t remember… her real name was Anastasia, of her mother who he took in off the streets and got her cleaned up of drugs, how he cherished the young woman… and was so happy to find out she could help him continue the clans bloodline

IT IS UNCANNY when a book arrives at a particularly riveting moment, one in which the book’s reflection of current events is dizzying. How would an unsuspecting reader know that Bernice L. McFadden’s latest novel — a tale of modern-day slavery in another hemisphere, depicting the practice of trokosi — would resonate so deeply on our own shores?
I read this tale of separation, betrayal, and internecine secrets during a time when children were torn from the bosoms of their families at the US-Mexican border, emphasizing both actions for what they are: barbaric. McFadden’s novel is the story of a nine-year-old child who was dropped off at a temple prison and kept in a cage of tradition and inhumanity — meanwhile, here in the United States, children from South and Central America were sleeping on the floor in enclosures made of mesh wire. As of mid-September 2018, some 12,800 immigrant children were still being held in detention. It is a stunning, gut-punching moment to realize that trokosi, a cultural and governmental injustice and crime in West Africa, is mirrored right here in the United States. It is an action so loathsome, so unimaginable that the story tears at the reader’s heart as if clawed by wild animals. This is obviously the author’s intention. Readers familiar with McFadden’s body of work — 15 books altogether under her given and pen names — will not be surprised by the power of the tale.
Look at little Abeo, kindergarten age, twirling and starring in her family’s comfortable production of a life. Now, see that same innocent child, a girl child covering herself in some loose rough garment, with nothing to eat but a thick tasteless porridge, as she serves as the sexual slave of men who call themselves priests. (Yes, there are quite a few parallels to Christian and Catholic churches.) Get to know Abeo, merely a girl bearing rape and childbirth as soon as she bleeds. Her story leaves you feeling cracked open.
Trokosi, as defined by the author, “comes from the Ewe words tro, meaning deity or fetish, and kosi, meaning female slave.” It is this horrific practice that McFadden’s work illuminates. It is the belief in and practice of abandoning girls to serve life sentences as slaves to temple priests in order to protect their families from the gods’ anger — the sacrifice of an innocent for the sake of family honor, as punishment, and all beliefs that aim to make slavery palpable. In McFadden’s capable hands, these reasons ring as hollow as they are.
From the opening, McFadden reveals how sudden elements of violence, hatred, and death can insert themselves during a routine walk to work. In the familiar rhythm of an ancient folk tale, set mainly in the imaginary West African nation of Ukemby, the author asks what happens when the “village” not only fails a child but also sacrifices her.
The novel shifts back and forth in time covering more than three decades, from 1978 to 2009, covering numerous unforgettable characters on two continents. At its core is Abeo’s story. Abeo is the first and treasured daughter in the prosperous, safe household of Wasik Kata, an accountant with a cushy job with the Ukemby government treasury, and his wife, Ismae Kata, a beautiful, graceful former model. Cherished, inquisitive, a bit spoiled, and part of what Ismae assures her husband makes “the life I’ve always dreamed of having,” Abeo is the cynosure of the privileged home — teased, coddled, encouraged to dream, and danced about in fancy dresses. All of this begins to fall apart, however, as Wasik’s fortunes wane. Soon, the family’s spiritual and corporal life follows suit. A political turn leads to suspicion and the loss of employment for Wasik. Folks recall his grandfather’s accident that killed two female goat kids, a parent’s death, unacknowledged family secrets, a child’s sickness, bruised male ego, and lost potency. All common vagaries of life merge, spelling more than just bad luck for the cozy Kata domicile. A curse befalls their house.
It is this perceived pox on their peaceful household and good name that leads to sudden, unthinkable action. Wasik, who has earlier teased his daughter Abeo for being a “sleepyhead,” snatches her from bed one night and takes her on a horrifying, frenzied, heartbreaking ride through the dark countryside and urban streets in search of an emergency shrine. Just like that, without explanation, goodbyes, or even a backward glance from her father, seven-year-old Abeo is abandoned at night in a makeshift village of strangers. Still mesmerized by women’s jewelry and video tapes of The Wizard of Oz, this fragile spunky girl has just been ripped from the only people she knows and dropped like a slaughtered lamb into an encampment without rudimentary electricity and running water. Thus begins her first night of slavery, pummeled with unfamiliar harsh words, commands, and abuse from older women who drip contempt and hatred like venom on her smooth brown skin.
The next morning, Abeo awakes to find herself still in the nightmarish world of trokosi. Her doting father truly did offer her up to the “devil” and toss her into hell wearing only a nightshirt and sandals. The action and its repercussions are as unimaginable for the reader as for little Abeo. For this child — terrified, traumatized, and confused — it only gets worse.
The novel has a timeless quality; McFadden is a master of taking you to another time and place. In doing so, she raises questions surrounding the nature of memory, what we allow to thrive, and what we determine to execute. Praise Song for the Butterflies is a cautionary tale with a cruel twist. There are Wasik and those who collude with him to keep Abeo in captivity, and there are also the innocent victims. But what of little Abeo? What is she to take away from her fate? Trust no one? Believe that there is no fate worse than being born a woman?
The novel also brings to mind the 276 female students kidnapped more than four years ago by Boko Haram in northern Nigeria; girls and young women snatched from the seeming safety of school, some of whom are still in captivity, some palmed out to men like chattel to be wives and servants, some who have most likely perished.
McFadden brings the sweeping drama of her earlier works — The Book of Harlan, Glorious, Gathering of Waters — into this small book, and reminds me of the gentle fierceness of Edwidge Danticat’s writing. Despite the novel’s spare style and story line, there is fleeting joy and relief — kernels of respite as simple as a stolen mango furtively shared by Abeo and the girls, some of whom pray each night for death:
They all stared at the mango as if it were a brick of gold. “You stole it?” Juba grinned. “It fell off the truck and rolled to the side of the road. I didn’t steal it, I rescued it!”
There is clearly more to be “rescued” than a precious ripe mango. Questions of physical and mental abandonment loom large in this compact novel, along with issues of ancient and current ritual servitude, responsibility for choices, and forgiveness. McFadden asks why some of us are so easily forgotten and some are impossible to forget.
For me, the sparseness of Praise Song is one of its strengths; for some, it may be a weakness. As with tales this succinctly written, there is always the danger that it is too spare, leaving the reader wanting more detail. This is what happens when, in a quiet moment, each of Abeo’s sisters in slavery shares the story of how she ended up imprisoned in a dusty village with a lifetime sentence of sexual and physical work. The stories are so brief that the entire scene feels like a roundup of the local news — heartbreaking, enthralling news — but a truncated version of the truth. Additionally, in the process, the author sometimes slips into the habit of dumbing down the language, stealing the power of a scene already told in perfect tone. This happens when 11-year-old Abeo is summoned to her first rape by the assistant to the old temple priest: “Two weeks after Abeo completed her third menstrual cycle, Darkwa darkened the doorway of their hut and pointed at Abeo. ‘You, come with me.’”
Yet there is also redemption for some of the tortured and imprisoned. McFadden is too accomplished a storyteller to leave the reader with anything less; yet it is redemption hard-won and fragile as a butterfly’s wings.

Background (FINALLY!!)
This is everything you need to know about the AU I write from... took me a while but here it is
My Alternate Universe follows a similar timeline to the 2014/16 movies but unlike that it differs in many ways, the turtles are a bit older and differ in age –this is due to having to replace subjects due to one or all passing from not being able to survive the shots they were given, work side by side with the cops after the Krangg invasion, they have a baby sister who they not only saved but was raised alongside them by Master Splinter
v  Before anyone points it out the AU does have several different story timelines it follows – Raven was saved by Raph in one having found her alone in the sewers, in another he snuck up to the surface without permission and stumbled across the scene where two people were being harassed by the Foot in the end the little girl watches the men murder her mother as the young turtle tries to stop it… then there is one where the turtles never find the little girl and instead she grows up on the streets where she’s homeless and hunted by not only the Foot but also the Purple Dragons, in this timeline Raven saves Raphael from freezing to death after he’s hurt in a fight
v  I do tend to write poly relationships/one on one relationships
v  The OC Raven was originally from a book I was writing back in High School – in it she is a mutant who can absorb abilities (Like Rouge only the ability becomes hers making her dangerous to everyone around her) as a child she absorbed her guardian angel and the she fox who killed her making her the embodiment of something similar to the ying yang – beautifully innocent yet deadly, after that she is forced to carry a demon within her that tends to take over from time to time, so I did mutate her in one of my series where Sacks scientist actually force fox DNA into her with the mutagen and since in the AU the teenager has the DNA of a small species of turtle it mixes bad becoming unstable and creates a monster she struggles to control (Same as in the book)
At night if the brother’s don’t go out for patrol or have an easy night he sneaks out to meet Casey to ride bikes and patrol the city
v  And yes because I’m a sucker for it he does dress up as Nightwatcher without his family knowing to go out and fight crime, I had to give the hothead a motorcycle for him to ride but in actuality he had 2-3 he works on
He tries to not show it but he’s very protective of his family and cares for his brothers a lot , especially his two younger siblings, and as mean and off putting as he tried to come off he’s still a giant teddy bear with a really big heart that comforts the others when needed
Hope everyone finds this informative and enjoyed it
