Leo (2023) Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj Yesterday, at 5 PM, the title of Vijay's next movie was revealed, along with the release date and a promo video. What's very exciting about this for me is that it's his second collaboration with Lokesh Kanagaraj. I have loved every single one of Lokesh's movies, and I enjoyed "Master" greatly. So I am really looking forward to this, and it has music by Anirudh Ravichander too. These two people can do no wrong in my opinion! The teaser is very similar to the title reveal video for "Vikram", very similar shots and camera moves. Like the promo for "Vikram", I think it doesn't have any actual footage from the movie itself, it's its own thing. We see intercut footage of Vijay making chocolate, and Vijay forging a sword, and then these two elements kind of sync up with him dipping the forged sword into chocolate! He says the tagline of the movie "Bloody Sweet", and we see the title of the movie "Leo" with the release date of 19 October 2023. You hear an eagle sound, and an eagle flying in one shot of the teaser, which could be a reference to 'the eagle is coming' line from the "Once Upon a Time" song from "Vikram". As mentioned, this teaser is very similar to the "Vikram" title reveal video, which has to be intentional, so whether this movie will also be part of the Lokiverse or not, we will have to see. The "Bloody Sweet" song reminded me of the track "34 Ghosts IV" by Nine Inch Nails, it's not the same but gave similar vibes to me. It's really great. Can't wait to watch the movie! Also, I must mention @niveddo because, it's through his Instagram Stories that I got to know about this title reveal. I drew Vijay from the end of the teaser video. The drawing is done with 0.5 mm 4B mechanical pencil on a new A5 sketchbook that was recently gifted to me. M3GAN (2023) Directed by Gerard Johnstone Watched this movie on Monday night and enjoyed it greatly! After 11 year old Cady's parents are killed in a car accident, she goes to stay with her aunt Gemma who works for a tech company, and is introduced to M3GAN, an android companion developed by Gemma, who'll do anything for her. The movie had a good balance of the 'tech run amok' thriller elements, it had a lot of fun, and a surprising amount of nuance. The lead performances by Violet McGraw as Cady and Allison Williams as Gemma were great, and the execution of the droid was very effective using multiple techniques (actors in costume, CG, animatronics). The movie is written by @akelacooper and produced by @creepypuppet (who also contributes to Story), while this is not as bonkers like "Malignant", it's still a subtly different take on the subject. A sequel has just been announced, for 2025. I don't know why this has an A rating here as it's quite tame and actually was edited down for a PG-13 rating in the US, apparently we may get to see the R rated extended cut with more kills later on. That would be good indeed. But as it is, it's a well made and entertaining movie which I feel you should check out. I drew M3GAN from the movie, the drawing is done with Bic ballpoint pen on A5 Brustro sketchbook. You can swipe to see a scan. #karthikabhiram #dailymoviesketch @meetm3gan #m3gan #ballpointpen #ballpointpenart #ballpointpendrawing #ballpointpensketch #hellohyderabad #714 / 20-Jan-23 (at Pvr Cinemas : Irrum Manzil, Hyderabad) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cnnz3suLbbv/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Four recent sketches • The first one is a drawing of Thing from the show "Wednesday", where the disembodied hand was actually performed by actor @victor.dorobantu and his body was removed with CG. There is this shot where the hand gives the finger to someone, which is a very funny visual, and that reminded me of a similar thing in "Evil Dead II" where Ash saws off his possessed hand, and the hand starts running about, and in one scene, does show him the finger. I drew that as well. There is one 'theory' video that I've seen where they mention that "The Addams Family" / "Wednesday" and "Evil Dead II" are from the same studio and related, which is not correct. When @mahartified @mangopenciler2.0 @vamshibhasham @curlyhairedrascal and I met at @vanlavino, I did carry my sketchbook and like Vamshi, I also drew one of their tacos. And the last sketch is a small one of Giancarlo Esposito as Leo / Ray from the show "Kaleidoscope", which is the first movie / TV show of 2023 that I watched in 2023. This is interesting because, it's an 8 episode limited series which can be watched in different orders. There are eight episodes colour coded, like Yellow, Pink, Green etc and Netflix shows each viewer a random ordering (always ending on White though). I was thinking this could be a possible interview question, where the task is to give a logic for this random ordering! The story is centred around a heist, and the episodes take place at different points of time (like six weeks before the heist, seven years before, etc). It was engaging, well acted and interesting — my order was Yellow, Green, Orange, Violet, Blue, Red, Pink, White and I thought it was a good order. Perhaps not the best heist story ever and I felt a bit let down by certain aspects of the ending but still very good. All these sketches were done with Bic ballpoint pen on A6 Campap sketchbook and these are scanned versions. Evil Dead Rise (2023) Directed by Lee Cronin "Evil Dead Rise" is an upcoming entry in the "Evil Dead" franchise. It was apparently to go to HBO Max but is getting a theatrical release in April. There are two trailers that were recently released for the movie, one Green Band (suitable for all audiences) and one Red Band (with adult content). I was not sure what to think of the movie till now but after watching both trailers, it seems very promising and I'm really looking forward to it. I'm not sure if it will be released in India, I hope it will though. I think the Green Band is the more creepy of the two but the Red Band one gives us a slight glimpse of the blood and gore in the film. There seems to be some delightully graphic stuff in it. It appears to be unrelated to the other movies in the series, just that they've taken the overall concept (passages from the Book of the Dead are read aloud, allowing the evil to possess the living) and set it in an apartment building, with a woman being possessed and trying to kill her family. The tone seems to be more leaning towards the straightforward horror of the first two-thirds of the 2013 Fede Alvarez remake, with some comedic elements mixed in too. I drew Alyssa Sutherland as the possessed Ellie from the trailer, the drawing was done with multi colour ballpoint pen on A5 Brustro sketchbook. You can swipe to see a scan of the drawing. Director @curleecronin had shared the in-progress video I had posted on Story too. #karthikabhiram #dailymoviesketch #evildead #evildeadrise #ballpointpen #ballpointpenart #ballpointpendrawing #artistsoninstagram #711 / 9-Jan-23 (at Secunderabad) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnLhLCXrIiV/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Wednesday (2022) Created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar "Wednesday" is a Netflix show based on the character Wednesday Addams from the "Addams Family" franchise. It's a dark comedy / mystery series with 8 episodes, featuring Jenna Ortega in the title role. Wednesday joins the Nevermore Academy, a boarding school for outcasts (students like her, who are either supernatural creatures or have powers). She starts experiencing sinister visions and is led to solve a murder mystery at the school. Some of the episodes are directed by Tim Burton. The show has been receiving praise but it's probably not the type of content I'd immediately jump to see. A clip featuring Jenna's dance from one scene, set to "Bloody Mary" by Lady Gaga (which isn't actually the music in the scene) became popular (apparently on Tiktok first and then came to Instagram Reels), and all I had to do was to watch it, and even till now, Instagram is showing me lots and lots of Reels featuring Jenna Ortega and the show. So I watched it, and liked it quite a bit. I didn't think it was entirely new though, since there was a sense of familiarity about it all, and it perhaps went on for longer than it needed to. For me, the blend between the older, Harry Potter style fantasy elements and the Riverdale type modern high school elements didn't always work. However, it was engaging enough, kept one's interest in the mystery, and Jenna Ortega (and the rest of the cast) did very well. There are references to the older Addams Family show and movies. I drew Wednesday, the drawing was done with 0.5 mm 4B mechanical pencil on A5 Brustro sketchbook. You can swipe to see a scan. I missed it by a day but had I put this up yesterday, I could have said that I posted a Wednesday drawing on Wednesday! #karthikabhiram #dailymoviesketch #wednesday #jennaortega #theaddamsfamily #pencil #pencilart #pencildrawing #artistsoninstagram #708 / 15-Dec-22 (at Secunderabad) https://www.instagram.com/p/CmLLXrtrZRF/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Linkin Park Tribute by Nemophilis • I went for this tribute event to Linkin Park by Pune based band @theofficialnemophilis at @ext.hyd by @themoonshineprojecthyd on 12 March. It was an awesome experience, they played around 30-35 Linkin Park songs and a couple of their own original pieces, and it was fantastic. The arrangement, music, vocals all were so well done, often one got so involved in the music that we forgot that they were covers! All the classics were covered and they even performed the song "Lost" which was just released very recently. It was great to catch up with @vamshibhasham @nikk_slayer (have to thank him for telling me about the event) @neelambhattacharya @clickingitreal @theonyxmethod too. I had posted a set of pictures I shot on my phone and a Reel, now here is a set of wide pictures of the band shot on camera (200D + 24-105 f4). I only got to edit them all today. #karthikabhiram #capturedoncanon @canonindia_official (at EXT) https://www.instagram.com/p/CqDb9xar8Xo/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Empty Spaces • What you are able to shoot at 2 AM! You're not likely to have seen these places like this, without any people. Watched "Shazam!: Fury of the Gods" last night. It was likeable and entertaining but for me at least, not anything memorable. Also, we know the entire DC Universe is getting rebooted anyway so nothing of what we saw in the movie actually matters in the broader scheme of things. The director David F Sandberg is a very good natured and hardworking person and that's the reason I watched this in the theatre, and I'm glad I did. But ultimately this felt to me like a very generic superhero movie. #karthikabhiram #withgalaxy #teamgalaxy #sharetheepic #hellohyderabad (at Hyderabad Next Galleria - Punjagutta) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cp4NTTarzF2/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Scream VI (2023) Directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett I've been a fan of the "Scream" movies from the late 1990s and was so happy that the directors who picked up the franchise for the fifth entry last year (after more than a decade's gap post "Scream 4") delivered a fantastic "Scream" movie that hit all the right notes. So, I was excited to see this sequel that was greenlit very close to the release of the previous entry! It's the first "Scream" movie I'm seeing theatrically (I don't think any of the other ones were released in theatres here in Hyderabad, I watched them all on videotape / streaming). I watched it on opening night and loved it! It is set a year after the events of "Scream 5", and follows the lead characters Sam and Tara Carpenter (Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega, who are excellent) and their friends in New York, and there is a new Ghostface killer who is after them. I loved the movie, it was very inventive with its story, had likeable characters and intense setups. The kills are delightfully brutal and creative (unfortunately our censors I think have made cuts in a couple of places, though the movie has an adults only certificate), so should see the uncut version once its on streaming. Also, the theatre where I watched it didn't play the entire end credits, so I will check that out as well. Enjoyed alll the "meta" and movie references, though I think this movie didn't have as many of those as the previous entries. There are a couple of new songs that were released along with the movie, one by Demi Lovato and the other by Mike Shinoda and Kailee Morgue, enjoyed them too. I drew Ghostface and Jenna Ortega as Tara from the movie, the drawing was done with Bic ballpoint pen on A5 Brustro sketchbook. AI Generated • 'Scream' Inspired Comic • I think Instagram is inhibiting the Reach of my non-photographic posts, whether they have AI generated or traditional art. So, since it's not making a big difference, I'm mentioning it here. I'm watching "Scream VI" today so I made this short comic using AI. Both ChatGPT and Stable Diffusion have built in filters that don't allow you to generate really violent content, so this is a very tame comic. The movie is supposed to have some brutal and violent kills, which I hope will not be censored. I'm also doing a traditional, ballpoint pen drawing which I'll complete and post with my comments about the movie after watching. Images generated with Playground AI site via Stable Diffusion. #Scream #slasher #karthikabhiram #aiart #aigenerated (at Woodsboro) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpmCMn8L6uC/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

New card! I made this because the earlier card mentioned Facebook where I'm not active now, and also my website which exists but isn't being updated. While I was at it, I added some more artworks to the card as well. I was reminded of the "American Psycho" visiting card scene while making this 😂 Also, I have got a couple of new prints made and I'm waiting for them to be delivered. Will post once i get them. #karthikabhiram #withgalaxy #S22 #vsco (at Hyderabad) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpjleflLfNA/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
